Oh hey! I can post about our show here now!
For those of you who don't know, I'm Jay! And I run a D&D 5e actual play show on YouTube called "What's Left of Us" with Zoe Bee, @thestarfishface, MegaRon, Wild Jinx, and Thought Slime! We run on the last Friday of every month, which means our next episode is tomorrow at 2pm EST! You wanna see what it's like? The villain they're about to fight has a fabled artifact called "The Butt Crown".
We're also continuing our donation drive for the Palestinian Children's Relief Fund, so maybe help spread this around? I think you're gonna like it, and I hope you all stop by!

"Public education is under attack, and it feels like the attacks are coming from everywhere. In this video, we dive into the actual, literal conspiracy underneath the attacks on education. Along the way, I explore common ideas about education, debunk those ideas, and offer a hopeful conclusion defending public education."

The Adults Who Can't Read
Things to think about. illiterate people aren’t the cause of social issues, their victims. Most of them want help. Just help people when they ask for help. Fight the internal desire to make fun of illiteracy. Disenfranchisement, ableism, neurodiversity.

There are, broadly speaking, two philosophical theories of education. The first is that by teaching every child in a society a set of basic skills—science, language arts, critical thinking, and so on—you will cultivate a society of people who are more rational, ethical, and overall suited to making a just and prosperous society. The second is that by teaching every child common skills like math, writing, and reverence, you can produce a citizen body which can more efficiently serve the needs of the state and/or its industrial leaders.
Now that PragerU is a verified educational vendor in Florida and Texas, it's easy to guess which way their governments lean on the issue.

This is a wonderful video by Zoe Bee on plagiarism. If you have the time and a passing interest in the matter, I recommend checking it out – though if you do, please stick around past the eight minute mark.
I am particularly drawn to her points on how plagiarism reflect issues beyond the individual bad actors and that as groups (universities, online spaces) we can address issues of attribution. The video also makes a great point about the type of person who is most likely to successfully pass off the works of others as their own.
The beginning section is really interesting because it plays with the audience’s trust, which supports a larger message about the need to verify trusted sources. The fact that she doesn’t single out any new instances of individuals doing plagiarism also helps to sell her point that we have to think beyond single bad actors. Overall, I like the intentionality of even these elements that were played off as matters of style or taste, yet also build toward the video’s larger message.

Lots of "progressive" folks make fun of people for struggling with reading and writing. This is a bad thing. Let's talk about why.

In Defense of Inefficiency
Deeply touching video essay about the right to relax, the right to do it as many times to get it right, sometimes the goal gets unexpected responses, and sometimes efficiency is okay.
She’s a former teacher, aware of disabled and neurodivergent people.
