zirk virvain is just the archetype of the mad Victorian scientist but. morally good. like. he drinks piss. he has mommy issues and a gun. his experiments give him free ombre hair dye. he injects sludge into his friends. he got beat up by 40 year old children. twice. he chews on a stirring rod during autopsies. he had sex through a magic bag one time. he found the cure to death. he didn't even bother testing it he just straight up died and it worked. he technically didn't kill god but his friends killed god's daughter which is close enough.

on the topic of eldermourne. never recovering from the absolute ease with which zirk slips back into his dynamic with his mom. and more than that, the simultaneous shame of his friends not really seeing what’s so bad about his mom at first and then later them seeing the full ugly truth of zirk’s roots - either it wasn’t all that bad and he’s ashamed of how deeply she’s affected him or it was entirely that bad and he’s ashamed he was a part of it for so long. there’s never any winning when it comes to Stella vervain, bc she’d never play a game that wasn’t rigged.

caldwell's little hero brain really will always have "i can fix this!!" desperation shine through his characters.

bev says it multiple times about situations that should never have been put on his shoulders. zirk feels that deep guilt in concurrence with his genuine desire to help people and literally wants to fix every ailment that afflicts people. sol is the same process, but it happens in the campaign, where he feels he lets down calder because he keeps getting knocked down and he literally changes his subclass to remedy a bit of that.
