Foshe & Indira Elias - FOSHIRA
At the end of 2019 on a bizarre Melbourne day where the temperature climbed from 14 to 44 degrees between 10am and 12pm, the air thick with bushfire smoke that blew down from NSW, Foshe and Indira Elias had an improvised session at Fish Bones Tone Shack (the site of Foshe and Horatio Luna’s Nice to Meetcha).
A couple hours of recording to tape with dubby space echo contributions from engineer Fabian Hunter as the air conditioner lost the battle with the rapidly heating brick walls, turning the studio into a furnace and frying our brains with it.
While including some classic Foshe odd-time house, the record is a slight departure, expanding into some indie/dub territory, with Indira contributing her voice in instrumental capacity to the ambient trip. Flavours of Massive Attack and Radiohead blend with Foshe’s signature polyrhythmic house.
Foshe and Indira had only connected once before at Cake Wines’ iconic ‘jazz attack’ series. The record documents a fleeting but beautiful chapter of the Sydney jazz scene.
Plug in and tune out xx
