Chrys looks so pretty! Love the quirky vibes! Could you tell us more about them?
I've had a couple people asking for some Chrys info but I don't have an actual character sheet yet oops
Chrys is an MC/Yuu who technically exists in an alt universe compared to Ambrosia for alt shenaniganz, but also maybe I can have two Yuus for jokes sometimes because time and space bend to my will
So while Ambrosia is more of the character I created in my head as the MC while I was actually playing twst, Chrys is me loving the ambiguity of the MC and how many people go "yeah my MC is a girl stuck at an all boys school" like that sounds such classic otome game plot right?
Okay but Chrys? Even if she's somehow living out the ultimate otome she's just.. she's a huge nerd (affectionate)
After the initial shock of being trapped in another world settles down she's immediately just "oh wow there's fairies and beastmen and mermaids and magic?? Where's the library I need to get my hands on every history and informational book you'll let me check out. What is the world like? What kind of cultures are there? How are the relations of these different species with one another? Can someone explain to me how the mermaid transformation potion works- are their insides changed to human insides or do they still have fish insides??"
While Ambrosia mirrors the canon MC's "oh man I guess I'm stuck here. Well I can still make friends and try to have a normal school life I guess" attitude that we perceive, being interested in things as they come up and taking what they can in stride-
Chrys absolutley just dives into meeting everything with this excited fascination (that definitely gets on some people's nerves), but it's really just her being so curious about this new world she's found herself in and as such is eager to learn about anything she deems interesting
Which is also how she gets caught up in more Octavinelle nonsense. Approaching Azul like, "Hey I know I helped my friends kick your ass like a week ago and that should make me want to avoid you and the concept of even thinking the word deal around you BUUUUUT- all the books I've read in the library that talk about mermaid culture SUCK! They're like, written by humans who are like 'yeah I totally talked to a mermaid once here's a book about what I learned'. It's garbage. Anyways what would you want from me if I asked you to write me a list of books about mermaids with actual credible sources? I figured I'd ask you since I know you'll definitely find what I'm looking for."
Azul just offended that he's being asked to do something that a quick internet search could yield while the tweels are just, "oh you want to learn more about mermaids? Here's the creepiest things we can tell you"
Also despite her still being "shrimpy", her hair colors were loosely inspired by a sea nettle lmao. Though I've made the joke on twitter that Ambrosia is an orange shrimp and Chrys is a ghost shrimp and that's how they can both be shrimp

How Can Success Be Achieved With the Support of Others?
Support from others may be beneficial in a variety of ways. It can, for example, provide feedback and assist you in putting barriers into context. It can also offer counsel and a good attitude. It may even motivate you to take action. If you want to be successful in life, you must have the support of others.
Positive reinforcement is one of the most effective motivators in life. Offering prizes to yourself or others for completing your objective might increase your motivation to work hard and follow through. Giving oneself an instant reward for finishing a task, for example, boosts your satisfaction. Another fantastic example is making a contract with yourself that forces you to acquire a large item.
Giving your staff monetary incentives might help boost their morale. Many middle-class families struggle to make ends meet, and a few hundred dollars may significantly improve their standard of living. Furthermore, financial incentives can help employees prepare for retirement or pay off debts, lowering the likelihood of job unhappiness.
Keeping your promises to yourself and others is critical to success. It fosters trust, confidence, and a feeling of direction. On the other hand, a lack of dedication to yourself can lower your self-esteem and confidence, making you feel horrible about yourself. It can also lead to a lack of confidence in oneself and one's talents.
Keeping your promises can help you achieve your objectives and drive you to take action toward achievement. As a result, creating daily goals and allotting time for each is critical. Ideally, you should set out 15 minutes every day to work on your objectives to keep them fresh in your mind. This will allow you to stay focused and keep your expectations reasonable.
To succeed, you must surround yourself with a supportive community. This community will assist you in focusing on your objectives and celebrating your successes. It will also motivate you to continue when you are overcome with dread.
Shared areas can also help to form communities. People may use these areas to solve issues, exchange comedy, and vent their frustrations. Furthermore, it allows people to share their achievements and motivate one another. This will assist your brand in being more well-known and trusted in your neighbourhood.
Successful people can adapt to change, allowing them to step beyond their comfort zones. By doing so, they can enhance their critical thinking abilities and break out from their safety nets. The secret to success is to push yourself and learn from your failures. You'll be well on your road to winning once you're willing to move outside your comfort zone. Here are a few advantages of getting out of your comfort zone:
Getting out of your comfort zone is necessary since it alters your brain's thinking. It changes how your brain receives information by demonstrating that there is nothing to fear. It also helps you to perceive things from a different angle. It broadens your horizons and allows you to mingle more.
Others' encouragement can help you attain your objectives. However, you must be cautious about who you associate with. Some people are capable of sabotaging your business and your life. Avoid negative individuals and carefully select your interactions. Choose folks who are more intelligent than you. It will be more challenging to attain your goals if you are surrounded by people who undercut your efforts.
Having the right kind of aid from others might help you get ahead quickly. It can help you form new relationships, enhance your mindset, and gain insight. It can also improve your daily life.

been slowly moving back into tumblr, partly nostalgia, the old posts are still there but different types of buzzing. the fact that it is slightly less algo driven (?) also helps. what is your relationship to this place? I do recall part of the charm was the familiar stranger thing, and I am getting that from your posting so I figured I'd open up a chat
u know I really appreciate u reaching out n sending a upfront overt message. I feel more connected to life when I have direct connection with person n this direct linkage is impactful to me. I'm glad my accumulation has affected u and allowed u to connect with me on a deeper level as this blog is where my deeper personality is unleashed. I understand myself through other people so when I browse tumblr I feel great knowing my experience is being shaped around who I find rather than what an algorithm finds. I find people through things and things through people and the entire process is human driven. I use the multitab tumblr iOS app so as to fully rid myself of any form of algorithmic content discovery. Within the multitab tumblr app I am able to scroll through an entire blog from the latest post right back to the very first post using pagnation techniques such as browse by post interval and browse by date. This means that no post gets left behind, and it's important to me because my philosophy is akin to that of Steve Jobs: people don't know what they don't know they want. Give people what they don't know they want. It's actually a very dark philosophy when you factor in mindless consumerism within capitalism but everything has its downsides. I find art to be something that thrives within capitalism for this exact reason. Without seeing as much art as possible, how will you know which artist is your favourite? Imagine if you only listened to the Beatles. They'd be your favourite band, for sure, if you happen to like music. Music gets reduced down to one thing: the Beatles. Now music is a tonne of different things. The internet is the true powerhouse of capitalistic consumerism, browsing tumblr I'm presented with personally curated archives I find through links between other personally curated archives, and I'm finding so much that's new to me and so many takes on what art really is. Some of the stuff I find is so unknown, it hasn't been approved by the masses so it's hard to access. Is it because it's been presented to a few ppl who don't like it so society has deemed it uninteresting for the rest of civilisation? Is it because simply no one has been given the chance to see it ? What's the difference between the two? Fading into obscurity, or eternally obscure. Never was, never is, never will be. Is it better to never have loved ? Or to have loved and be broken hearted, eternally in turmoil, surrendered to the feeling of what could have been but isn't. Heartbreak brings with it a perceived upperhand in taste. The lack of an experience reduces someone, whereas the absence of a past experience enriches someone to the point that they become a boiling pot, they gush out and overflow scolding liquid in agony. They can't control it, it is who they are. Why accept heartbreak when you can't even accept that you won't meet every person who is currently alive, who has ever lived, and who ever will live. How can anyone exist using 0.000001% of the collective cosmic brain known as the finite lifespan of a human? Being nothing is terrifying. The algorithm affirms your nothingness. Multitab tumblr affirms your limited physical capacity for absorbing the universe. You'll never be able to browse through its entirety. There will always be more to find. That's really what terrifies me. I'm so insignificant I'm just timid kobithedragon plucking out feathers of a hen. Arranging them, presenting them to the blades of grass that stretch out across the meadow. How many more hens? How many more grass?

Attacking you based on u're favorite Evermore song <3
Willow: How does it feel to be the therapist friend? how does it feel to want to reach out but none of ur friends know ur in the lowest moment of your life? stop acting like you only need yourself!!!
Champagne Problems: Stop projecting ur emotions to things that will NEVER help you. listening to music isn't gonna make you forget all ur problems, eating or sleeping is not a good replacement for ACTUALLY letting all that anger and tears out.
Gold Rush: The moment someone shows you a hint of care and affection, you get attached then the moment they walk out of your life, you think it was your fault . NEWS FLASH! it was NOT ur fault u just hate to think about them in a bad way because ur so blinded by love
'tis the Damn Season: you hold grudges. you don't make it obvious, but you do, you make sure that the amount of attention they give you is the same amount of attention you give to them, you try so hard to balance everything it just ends up hurting you.
Happiness: You literally trust NO ONE. you've been betrayed and hurt too many times when you do find someone who makes you happy, who gives you every idea that they will never do anything to hurt you, you run away, because you think when your get too close, they'll break ur trust.
No Body No Crime: How's it feel to be touch deprived? you so badly want someone to hug you but even just a poke on the arm scares you, you hate touch but the idea of it brings you comfort.
Dorothea: You so badly want reinvention. you wish to become someone else, someone who you're not you wish for everyone to just forget you and you could live the life you so desperately want, you want a new identity and just run away and forget everything in the past.
Closure: You're a damn spy you're always checking in on people even if they're not in your life anymore. you always want to see if they're doing well and that upsets you if they are. it upsets you that they're happy without you because you're miserable without them.
Cowboy Like Me: No one truly knows you, your family thinks of you differently, your friends don't know ur deep secrets, ur secretive. you don't like telling people things about you, because you feel like there's always intention behind it.
Coney Island: You hate social interaction and you hate meeting new people, but you have no trouble doing that online. that's why you're so stuck on the internet because the people you meet through the internet makes you so much happier than the people around you physically.
Long Story Short: You rush to do things, time bothers you, and you always wish you could do so much more you feel like there should be no limit. you overwork yourself, you want to reach your goal quickly. you feel like anything could happen, so u focus on getting things done.
Ivy: Every time you were so close to finding love, it didn't work out. that's why you believe you'll never find it, because every opportunity it never worked out. you want to love someone so bad, but you haven't found the person who deserves you.
Marjorie: People tend to take advantage of you, it's hard for you to say no to people, you please people, intentionally or unintentionally, you find it difficult to get rid of toxic people, so you wait and wait for the world to do it for you.
It's Time To Go: You've been gaslighted in a friendship or a relationship, it's hard for you to never feel guilty for things even if it has nothing to do with you. you sometimes unintentionally guilt trip others, and the moment you realize, you drown in quilt yourself, quitfest.
Right Where You Left Me: You're still so stuck in the same damn time you've perceived life to be still in the time where u were happy, you don't want to move on you don't let go of the past as it's keeping you back u hold on to it because it's the only thing that makes u happy.
I didn't include Tolerate It in the list cuz I don't think either of us r ready for that pain yet ;-;

"Hope, is about getting another dose of inspiration from oneself"
---.1.13.2020.---
"WHO ARE YOU?” is not just that if, we sore higher. It is about, how you become yourself. It's about telling a journey on a gist of one's reminiscence. What keeps you moving, what do you want--- who you aspire to be? Into what extent are you willing to do, to make things right as you dreamt of it being you, by having and reaching it? Be brave enough to conquer. And prepare to unravel your own kind of puzzle.
We may not be able to reflect that deeply how blessed we are for the life He bestowed us, also, having the best parents we could ever had in our own perspectives as they meld you growing up. What matters more is that genuine happiness we gain from playing, watching and being with friends. Seeing things no harm, not a problem at all.
LATER ON, is when we build industry with other people or the immaturity of making yourself Superior to others. But still, you don't see it. Of course. You are just a few steps away from being an empty vessel. And it's not your fault, it's normal. The short temper, misunderstanding and selfishness you possess is just a sign that you are one in a million that is about to bloom, little by little.
Swayed by everything that the universe has to offer, wanting and wishing to experience such things that we believe can make us better, that we think can make us compose our vision and is substantial for the path we start thinking to go through. We're in fact a zero visibility path as you continue searching for more opportunities. Lots of options having no choice or even a selection of what to keep in mind and tracked down.
And, oh! Now, you are creating another dimension in mind. Elusively looking who really I am going to be, isn't it to be a teacher, a police, a doctor etc., and so, I have to reason out. Get confused. Change your mind minute by minute, by hour, a day or for how long? Keeping it your aspiration for a year or two and then, truth slapped the voice out on your brain and make you move. Change it. Hold or choose another? Go on. Life is the only constant thing in the world, indeed, our minds too. Deceiving eyes and unnamed decision puts you to your own kind of delusions.
CULTURE SHOCK, as we stepped on the higher grounds. New people, bigger surroundings and bulk of data to be loaded on. Learning how to do camouflage, to keep and change thoroughly as we perceive our own perceptions from the others' POV. You go and fail. Keep on trying.
Blinded by the things you think the best for you because of the fire in you, magnetized by the feeling that it gives you contentment. But, try to hold back, don't be excited to whatever you see and comes. It might take you wrong. Not limited by anyone but you, decide hypothetically.
Short termed set of companion (which we believed is for lifetime) over greater pick of persons to trust and tell. One wrong move and you'll be a stranger, wishing you never said a thing. Be wise, don't boast.
If you got mad, try to understand. If you does something bad, try to say sorry. If you feel insecure, don't blame others. Make yourself better with their help and don't think to isolate yourself and get even. It's not healthy after all, every bad thoughts inside you will be sooner or later replaced by acceptance. I promise!
Different level of understanding and level of sensitivity.
FOOLED BY someone who made you believe love won't hurt, but it does? It's a very tricky lesson to be taken care off, smoothly. But love doesn't hurt, what hurts you is the person who leaves and the thought that we can't accept what happened. One thing's for sure, you'll do understand, but it takes time.
It's not bad to be mad, to feel sad or anything. Whenever we feel our emotions getting into every part of ourselves, be it. Bind with the rhythm it sends you. It'll make you feel better but don't deal with it for so long. Don't be hypocrate and in denial. Because, the more we repress it the more agony it gives us, right? If you feel like crying, then cry. You may be weak for a moment but try to leave worries and hurt feelings behind. Stand again with your head held higher as you became stronger.
GOING HIGHER once more. Another battle ground. Life changing. Another chance to change, to grow and appropriately learn how to use your different kind of mask in order to get other people's approval, appraisal and affection which builds up the best in you in terms of your personality and self-esteem.
Even if you are not seeking for those things, be demure and mature enough or be bold and voice out ACCORDINGLY. It's another way of being yourself. Being real.
WHEN HARDSHIPS instill success. Just like keeping our mouth shut instead of cursing about our triumphs in the making. Smile and keep going, as humanity either see or don't appreciate your hard works. Mind your own.
Fighting without YOU inside you is like going somewhere else blindfolded. But with people who are capable of believing and seeing the best in you will be there, it is when failures becomes your greatest experience and conquer becomes worth it. And for those who don't like you, see them as an inspiration and not someone you have to revenge or get even, when time comes.
ALONG THE way, you'll meet somebody to teach you in any 'impossible' ways. It is also one's duty to see what those lessons are, what are they for and how much it'll means to you, for every other circumstances that is about to say 'Hey we meet again!', along the way. Maybe not now, but soon.
If, everything restarted as another paragraph of your life unfolds. Don't dwell on your past. Nothing has to hold you back. Keep in mind, those are the biggest part of who you are, now. Okay? It says that this paragraph is where you need to start making 'another' best part of you.
It's when even achievements, celebration and surprises doesn't matter, seeing yourself smiling but not genuinely happy is not a total threat. When, fame and fighting is replaced by silence, understanding, forgiving and giving. Wishing that you can go back on your childhood. To play, act and sleep like a child instead of studying, working and do some cunning sacrifices in your life. 'These are another realizations, part of your grown up transition'. That, at the end of the day, you will choose to be happy, continue life and is thankful that we have our loved ones beside us, we can provide what we need, we have a good health, is when it feels complete.
MANY ARE trapped there, in the midst of holding back and regressions. But, we have to settle ourselves and be back again with the reality. Not from the shadow that already fade off. Seek for a wonderful world ahead. It's your choice to make, if you'll be left behind or not. Happiness is still a choice.
Make this belief a myth: Growing up and maturity makes our life miserable and sad, please! It's your choice to have no choice.
BE MINDFUL of the things you used to believe when you started. Your dreams, your family and the world that is waiting on what you can offer. One way or another, a ray of sun will touch your heart.
Reflect and tell yourself, your childhood story up to now. See! You've come so far. Be inspired by you and keep going.
TO EVERYONE, may I say, He loves you! You are worth it. There's always a reason why you are here. Let go of your insecurities, hatred and cruelty. Choose joy over anything. Life is short, don't put effort thinking about the things that burns you out. No doubts, just trust Him!

Piercing Trends That Will Be Everywhere in 2022
As we would like to think, nothing beats the surge of getting a needle jabbed through your skin for a puncturing. Among the different ways of articulating your thoughts through body adjustment, they're generally okay and outright old tomfoolery.
Puncturing patterns will more often than not back and forth movement. A few areas, similar to the ear flap, apparently never become unpopular while different arrangements, similar to the gut button, resurge in prevalence at regular intervals or thereabouts. The COVID-19 pandemic impacted many people's capacity to get piercings as veil covered regions became untouchable. Be that as it may, as tattoo and penetrating shops open back up, more individuals have been willing to analyze, whether it's by adding new gems to old openings or getting something totally new.
We visited with a couple of piercers to find out pretty much all the ear and body penetrating patterns you ought to expect in the new year. Here are the penetrating patterns you'll be seeing wherever in 2022.
The ear is a famous site for piercings, yet as of late more people are searching out ear curations, as indicated by piercer Amber officialbellybuttonrings who works at Live by the Sword Tattoo. "It's essentially a planning and making arrangements for one or the other now or future piercings for your ears," she makes sense of. Ear curations include giving the piercer the artistic liberty to pick numerous piercings for you while considering your tasteful and your ear's life structures to sort out the best arrangements and gems. Now and again these curations additionally include adding new gems to previously existing piercings to guarantee everything cooperates.
Massenet refers to online entertainment, particularly TikTok, as the motivation behind why she thinks more individuals are picking these curations. "Whenever you take a gander at [these piercings], particularly via online entertainment, you perceive how great everything goes together and how pleasant [they] look on another person, clearly you're like, 'OMG, I can do that,'" she shares.
At Brooklyn's So Gold Studies, piercer and originator Cassi Lopez-March expects that clients have no less than three existing piercings and get one to three extra piercings during an ear curation meeting. She finds that a greater amount of her clients are searching "out and out ear styling" instead of coming in with pre-decided arrangements in light of the fact that the normal individual doesn't continuously have the foggiest idea what they need. "At the point when somebody gives us free rule to sort of play around with it, that is the point at which the sorcery occurs," she shares.

Why you can't talk about the Gentry on Facebook.
"Why should I care?"
You are concerned about Gentrification and its effects on marginalized peoples.
You want a strategy on gaming gentrification to benefit your neighbors.
Let's get started.
Facebook helps me keep track of my Digital Village
Tumblr media
I have a lot of friends on Facebook from different walks of life. Mainly composed of--
Family, friends-of-family, and former classmates who have been working for the community for years to decades (keep pressing forward, fam!)
Friends I made while studying at North Carolina A&T State University (AGGIE PRIDE!!)
Friends I've made while abroad at Korea University (SHOUTS OUT TO Y'ALL!)
Community members I've found while working in every borough in NYC (MARLS, BlaQue, and various kinhood spirits!)
All of my people are really active in the community in some way, shape, or form. My Digital Village has various insights that make my Facebook timeline an engaging and enlightening place. I am very thankful for this and appreciative of the people who make up my village.
However, many in my village have been banned or barred because Facebook is not a free place to communicate. As many Facebook users will confirm, this platform bans any mention of White people, especially White men.
Go ahead! Try it for yourself. Facebook will take down your post because it violates Facebook's Community Terms of Service (ToS). It doesn't matter who you are. --To quote one of my favorite people, "I am White people!"
Facebook is a Private Company: They can do whatever they Want.
Investigating the legalese Facebook uses to protect White People's right to never be mentioned on Facebook would be fascinating. However, it's irrelevant. Facebook is a private company, and they can do whatever they want. More importantly, trying to challenge Facebook could potentially give them more power than we intend. We don't need Facebook to establish itself any more than it is now.
Therefore, our collective solution to this problem is to use coded language to foul up Facebook's "Community ToS" AI. My village has taken to using terms like "🌾," "⚪," or "the Gentry." It's a colorful and fun way to express ourselves on a very wide platform. This works for now.
Once you get tired of using coded language, moving to other platforms deflates Facebook's power.
Even more importantly, Facebook's ToS caused me to use other platforms that support my community. Pointedly, I use platforms like Tumblr and Discord, which are committed to supporting people in my Digital Village. This is how you game a "free capitalistic market" for now. Remember: MySpace only became irrelevant because we all moved onto other platforms.
Who exactly is the Gentry?
"The Gentry" is a cute term I personally use on Facebook to refer to White people. However, it's a term I use facetiously. For a modern, American, definition: the Gentry can refer to anyone who moves into a gentrified neighborhood, thus causing Gentrification.
"Gentrifiers" can be affluent, thrifty, White people taking advantage of the cheaper property values in a marginalized neighborhood. However, anyone can be affluent and thrifty in this economy: Asian Americans, Black people, anyone. I have even qualified as a Gentrifier in a lot of cases! I'm a country girl transplant to NYC. I lived in Seoul, South Korea, for a year. What matters is that the person moving is from outside the community.
When these new people move in, the gentrifying process looks like this:
The gentrifiers bring with them a demand for expensive products and services that the locals can't afford.
This demand irreparably changes the neighborhood to meet those needs.
The increased value of the neighborhood prices out the Locals-- e.g., through increased rent, taxes, etc
Local families and businesses are forced to move out because of the increased rent AND cultural displacement. i.e., The gentrifiers complain about the locals' habits because they perceive them as incompatible with their lifestyle.
What causes Gentrification?
I have lived and worked in nearly every borough of New York City. I also grew up in Winston-Salem, North Carolina-- where one side of the city has always owned the other side of the city. Subsequently, I have also lived on either side of Winston-Salem as well-- the more affluent West-side and the "Ghetto" East-side.
Can you guess which side of Winston-Salem owns the other?
The primary aspect of Gentrification is that the locals do not own the land that they live on. The East-side of Winston-Salem was primarily Downtown and apartment complexes where poor families rent their homes. That meant a lot of things, particularly that it was difficult for the poor families to have control over where they lived.
Property improvement was up to whoever owned their home on the West-side. Since the owners did not live in the neighborhood, they actually didn't care about upkeep. They only care about extracting money from their renters.
If you can recall your Social Studies class: this is a similar configuration for imperialistic powers and their colonies. Imperial governments didn't care about the people in the colonies and their quality of life. They only cared about extracting the wealth out of the colonies. The sole purpose of the colony is to enrich its imperial counterpart, facetiously called the "Mother country." In addition to being patronizing, this configuration left the colonists had no control over their own country. The lack of self-governance systems is why we see formally colonized countries still struggling to compete. In some cases, the country is in tatters hundreds of years after their imperial overseers have left.
Gentrification and Colonization has a lot of the same Economic Patterns
Again, similar to colonization, gentrification ensures that there is very little opportunity for self-governance. Locals do not have the economic resources to improve where they live or dictate the sort of business services are available for the locals. For example, we always had to go to the West-side of Winston-Salem for banking services. The only thing available on the East-side were predatory pay-day loan parlors and expensive Western Union transfer points.
Gentrification reduces economic opportunity for locals, but what about political representation? In Colonization, local representation was virtually non-existent: the Imperialitisc power would install governors to keep the colony in check. Does Gentrification share this pattern too?
Gerrymandering: Gentrified Neighborhoods Literally Dwell on the Margins
Back to Winston-Salem: for families on the Eastside, the only control they had was electing people to represent them Locally, at the State level, or at the Federal level. However, Gerrymandering made this impossible in a lot of cases at the Federal level. Gerrymandering ensures that marginalized neighborhoods have a splintered vote. Having a district border run through your neighborhood means no one from that neighborhood will ever represent you. It's impossible to petition the person who does represent you because they will always see you as a minority, at best. This is literally where the term "marginalization" comes from.
The result is that the locals are barred from resources to improve and profit from the land that they live on. Once developers and actual landowners want to take advantage of the devalued land, the locals are priced out. Their target market is the Gentry: this is why their preferences and services are prioritized.
As predicted, 20 years later, since I've lived in Winston-Salem, most of these families have been priced out of East Winston by Gentrification. I see many realtor websites that describe my old neighborhood as "up and coming," with glitzy pictures of cafés and bars. None of these businesses were there when I was growing up. You see this same process in NYC.
New York City has a very similar problem as Winston-Salem, NC, exasperated by the fact that there is a larger culture of renting. One of my Digital Village members' attempts to purchase a house was curtailed by companies who could quickly snatch up the property. -Even when she was trying to purchase in the outer boroughs of NYC (Queens, Brooklyn, Bronx)!
Most small-scale LandLords are old New Yorkers who owned the property before the 2000s. Either the owners had property before the Real Estate boom or inherited their property and decided to keep it for rental income. Even my little Landlady. She is an old New Yorker who moved out to Throggs Neck but kept her old house in Jamaica to rent out to families and reliable, young professionals.
How much property the Locals own where they live and work determines how the neighborhood will change.
What can I do about Gentrification?
Remember: Gentrification is determined by what realtors think that the Gentry wants. There is a lot for both (1) locals and (2) their new neighbors to lessen the effects of Gentrification.
If you are moving into an "up and coming neighborhood":
Learn about who has been there and what their culture is. As someone who would classify as a Gentrifier in many cases, I had a much more colorful experience by learning about the culture I'm entering. My Digital Village is so expansive because I took the time to learn about others. Not only will you reduce the chances for Cultural Displacement, but you'll also live a more enriching life! There are many things the neighborhood has to offer, many that may be outside your comfort zone. I promise, taking a chance on what your local neighbors have to offer will change your life for the better.
Support Local Businesses that are run by the Locals. As a gentrifier, my first step in moving to Jamaica, Queens, was finding a solid burrito spot! Shout out to Bella's!
Think of other creative ways you can support the community. Join a local Community Association. Ask about what their needs are. After doing your research, you always need to ask your neighbors what they need. They will tell you.
If you are a Local in an "up and coming neighborhood," look into obtaining a piece of the neighborhood through collective investing! Beyond purchasing land yourself, collective investing the fastest way to set down your stob. Getting your piece can be done in a few ways, including:
Asking your Landlord if they are interested in converting your housing into a Housing Cooperative. Essentially, you get shares of the house you live in. This is beneficial to your Landlord because they can get many tax benefits, depending on where you are. It benefits you, especially if you are a good tenant. You can get dividends from the profit every year, making your place of living more stable.
Look into investing in another Local Landlord. If your Landlord isn't willing, find another whose opened to receiving investments. Some of them need to make ends meet. You can invest as little as $1,000 a year and get dividends from your investment.
Look into investing in a Local Small Business. You can even diversify your investments by looking at local businesses to invest in! Your investments will help your favorite business get more resources to serve your new neighbors coming in. The money you get back will also help make you and your favorite business more solvent. At the very least, increasing the business you do with them will significantly help.
How do I start Investing in Small Businesses?
Let's say you are a local looking to invest in your local business. You could also be the Gentry, who has some disposable income to invest in your Community Association's local investment campaign. In either case, you must start with an Investment Agreement! Investment Agreements are written up by Business Lawyers. They state how much you invest in the business and how much dividends of profit you get back. Either the investor (a community member) or the investee (the small business owner) can draw up an agreement.

The 15 Hardest New Year's Resolutions to Keep
Tumblr media
New Year's resolutions square measure notoriously tough to follow through on. associate degree oft-cited 1989 study within the Journal of abuse found that but twenty % of subjects creating resolutions had hit their goal 2 years out. it isn't that resolutions square measure unachievable: It's that there square measure many common mistakes individuals build once setting their
resolutions. thus before creating your own pledge this year, take a glance at what to not do rather than continuation past mistakes. These square measure the fifteen hardest New Year's resolutions to stay, and why they continuously fail.
1Resolutions regarding weight loss
Unsurprisingly, this common resolution is sort of continuously doomed to fail. However, the rationale of why could surprise you—it's the shortage of specifics. Certified personal trainer and health coach Angela Kim notes the necessity for clear inquiries to verify your goals: "How several pounds does one need to lose? what quantity time does one need to provide yourself to accomplish this resolution?" If you do not understand what you would like, you are not attending to cotton on.
Instead of creating a resolution that's a imprecise statement of intention, produce a game set up. for instance, "I can estimate a minimum of twenty minutes, thrice every week for four weeks to lose eight pounds by the tip of January," Kim suggests.
2Resolutions that promise healthy uptake
Once again, this resolution is far too imprecise. "What will 'healthy' mean?" asks Kim. "If you've got a appetence, do not try and eliminate sugar altogether," she explains. Instead, plan to creating one switch at a time, like commutation your hour frozen dessert with a bowl of strawberries. whereas it's going to not sound as exciting as associate degree overall commitment to "healthy uptake," it's going to mean creating a resolution you'll really keep.
3Resolutions regarding attending to the gymnasium
"A resolution that always fails is to induce to the gymnasium often and obtain into form," says personal trainer and well-being coach parliamentarian Herbst. "People try and do an excessive amount of ahead of time and obtain sore and annoyed." subsequently, they furnish up—and their New Year's resolution goes out the window.
Instead, he recommends creating a resolution that merely "makes exercise a priority." Doing thus can enable you to start obtaining active at your own pace, avoiding needless frustrations and premature quitting.
4Resolutions while not a thought
When it involves the toughest New Year's resolutions, and why they fail, you are most likely noticing a typical thread: an absence of foresight and specifics.
"Any New Year's resolution is probably going to fail if we do not savvy to line goals for ourselves," says Susan Petang, a life-style and stress management coach at The Quiet Zone. Petang recommends victimisation the good methodology, that means finding a goal that's Specific, Measurable, Action-oriented, Reasonable, and Time-sensitive.
You should conjointly take a couple of moments every week to physically record your progress. "The physical act of writing things down reinforces concepts," she explains.
5Resolutions while not clear outcomes
In addition to having a close set up, it is important to possess {an idea|a thought|a concept|a set up|an inspiration} of what every step in this plan can appear as if. in line with a 2014 article within the yank Journal of restroom Health, creating a flourishing resolution "requires a transparent set up of action with definitive expected outcomes." once it involves creating changes, suddenly modifying the set up can do nothing however slow your progress.
6Resolutions that do not embrace social support
Yes, you scan that right—it could be time for a gymnasium chum. in line with the said study within the Journal of abuse, a personality's success at keeping their New Year's resolutions for extended than six months was foretold by the amount of social support enclosed in their strategy. By recruiting others in their social circle for facilitate, they were able to drastically increase their probabilities of achieving long-run changes. and is not that what friends square measure for?
7Resolutions ensuing from social pressure
Opting to travel gluten-free as a result of your bestie went gluten-free? it'd not work. in line with McGill University prof Richard Koestner, self-motivated resolutions square measure far more seemingly to stay than ones impressed by outside forces. A self-motivated modification "allows people to exert additional effort, expertise less conflict, and feel a larger sense of readiness to vary." Resolutions brought on by outside pressure, however, square measure seemingly to finish in disappointment, each for the resolution-maker and for those hoping for a modification.
8Resolutions regarding being happier
While everybody needs to realize happiness, making an attempt to vary your outlook long is doomed to fail. "The truth is, we do not management our feelings during this strict of a way," says Steve Phillips-Waller, founder and editor of A acutely aware Rethink. Instead, attempt creating a resolution to try to to additional belongings you love, or to realize a selected, possible goal you have been endeavour toward. you'll trust that happiness can follow.
9Resolutions regarding being additional organized
Before you drive over to Hobby Lobby for plenty of structure bins, bear in mind that this New Year's resolution is very tough to meet. the matter could be a misunderstanding of what it suggests that to induce organized, says skilled organizer mountain Soreff. True organization needs a complete review of your area|lebensraum|room|way|elbow room} and a choice on however you would like to maximise that space. However, "most individuals skip the review and go straight to shoving and concealing," he says. And once those shoved objects inevitably begin rupture of their incommodious lodgings, you finish up right back wherever you started.
10Resolutions wherever you've got to quit cold turkey
Whether you are making an attempt to quit smoking or hand over soda, creating a resolution that has you with no flexibility is unlikely to succeed, says life coach Sonya Zappone, author of The Soul does not would like 1,000,000 bucks. "You square measure human, and restriction creates resistance and deprivation," she explains. That resistance may end up in being drawn to even worse behaviors. Instead, "create healthy substitutes for unhealthy habits" instead of exploit a void in your life by making an attempt to travel cold turkey.
11Resolutions while not some immediate rewards
Delayed rewards square measure great: Going for a 10-minute jog every day is certain to lower your vital sign over time. however immediate rewards—like fitting into last year's jeans—help you retain your eye on the prize. in line with a 2016 study revealed within the temperament and psychology Bulletin, "immediate rewards square measure powerfully related to actual persistence during a long-run goal." once creating a resolution, then, do not simply concentrate on the larger outcome, however conjointly on the series of smaller results that may be expected on the approach.
12Resolutions while not a robust perceived profit
That is, check that you have a souvenir in mind! once creating a resolution, it is important to spot the rationale why your planned modification are going to be useful. in line with a notable 1991 study in scientific discipline that checked out long-run health changes, "the strongest single predictors [of success] were perceived edges." The additional ready a participant was to acknowledge the positive effects of their changes, the additional seemingly they were to continue on their progress.
13Resolutions regarding creating extra money
People pay years making an attempt to boost their pay, which implies that trying to herald more money during a month or less is unlikely to achieve success. Instead, "the focus ought to be less on creating extra money, and additional on saving it," says Kim. "While it'd cause you to uncomfortable, take an in depth look into your statements for the year," she advises. Decide what is essential and what is cut bent on build extra money over time.
14Resolutions you do not assume you'll win
Henry Ford once aforementioned, "Whether you think that you'll, otherwise you assume you can't—you're right." And it seems, that is entirely true. in line with a major 2005 study within the Journal of marketing research, subjects were additional seemingly to succeed at keeping their resolutions after they had high levels of self-efficacy. that is delineate by the APA as their "belief in [their] capability to execute behaviors necessary to supply performance attainments." In different words, the upper the arrogance a personal had in their ability to realize their resolution, the additional seemingly they were to stay it. thus have faith!
15Resolutions regarding belongings you do not actually need to vary
Unsurprisingly, one among the keys to creating an enduring modification is one's disposition to try to to so—a issue that cannot be overcome by any level of external motivation. in line with a important 1989 study in addictive Behavior, "readiness to vary prospectively foretold flourishing outcome at each one week and one month." thus if you do not actually need to quit drinking or hand over smoking or begin attending to the gymnasium, it isn't attending to happen, in spite of however committed you sound after you say it aloud on New Year's Eve. modification extremely will come back from at intervals.
