Re: Zuko sexism and fandom: I think that a LOT of people are just genuinely unwilling to actually view Zuko's bad behaviour as actually consequential. He gets "forgiven" by the Gaang and he has a big dramatic duel and then he rules the Fire Nation so it's fine actually. If it wasn't fine he wouldn't have been forgiven, like Jet! They use the lens of end-of-series Zuko, influenced by how the Gaang forgives him, to then retroactively handwave away his earlier behaviour and view it as if end of series Zuko is just misguidedly doing those things, rather than it being an actual expression of what he believes in and his morality at that point in time. Part of it is an abundance of sympathy and projection because he's the most explicit (and arguably only explicit, because other child abuse victims are never injured or attempted-murdered that we know of, and that's the bar for many viewers. Neither are any other than Zuko positioned piteously or as victims of Serious Injustice.) child abuse victim in the show and we see so MUCH of his internal struggle. For like a whole book. There's also a consistent trend of viewing the Fire Nation as Yes, Actually, being better than the other societies, they just shouldn't have tried to spread it via war, so yes Zuko is ✨indoctrinated✨ but in a feminist galaxy brained way not a bad fascist way. So the colonialism would've been fine if people had just agreed with how great the Fire Nation is! Pretty much the entirety of Zuko's bad behaviour is handwaved away as "he's a good guy who had a bad life! We forgive him for all of it, he's trying!" And to a lot of viewers, it's also "he's also hot and I've had a crush on him since I was like 14!". He's genuinely a huge asshole to pretty much everyone around him like, almost 24/7, for the majority of the show. And he has his reasons but he's still caused a lot of harm, and that we see? he's basically only revised his views on violent colonialism, making his Anger other people's problem, and some parts of racism. He only ever addresses what he's done to the Gaang and Uncle to. Does he buy Song another ostrich horse? Does he give Kyoshi reparations? Did he ever find out if that farming family with the kid Lee were harmed for harbouring a FIRE NATION PRINCE? What did he do to apologise to the Southern Water Tribe? Whatever he did to apologise to and thank Mai, if anything, I can guarantee it wasn't enough. That's just his personal stuff, never mind his policy choices as the New Fiery Dictator. It's so boring and frustrating how much people gloss over his jagged edges, because without those edges his narrative and how he fits into the world and story just collapses completely.
you’re so right about all of this. I think his final scene with mai is especially emblematic of how his resolution is framed as “and they all lived happily ever after” even though I remember perfectly well how he treated that poor girl so I’m just yelling at her to run away the whole scene. although I will say that stealing song’s ostrich horse was probably his most justifiable crime just bc if I was a disfigured burn victim and someone tried to touch my face without asking I’d also consider committing petty theft against them. ngl. he still does owe her a new ostrich horse though. and of course framing his ascension as some grand victory is thematically/telelogically appropriate, but I highly doubt he would be like. good at firelording. but that’s for another post. ppl really like smoothing out his edges and treating him as if he’s beyond reproach when everyone only finds him so compelling in the first place because his flaws are so obvious, so they assume he’s more “complex” than the other characters (and also more relatable, but that’s for another post too). it’s actually kind of funny if you think about it. “he’s the best because he’s so noticeably flawed and therefore so complex but also I love him so he doesn’t have any flaws actually and is probably a feminist socialist who loves eating pussy and listening to women.” and this is also lowkey how ppl talk about sokka too but at least sokka does actually do those things, zuko doesn’t even pretend to😭 anyway. i keep saying today that you guys couldn’t handle revolutionary girl utena, but you guys REALLY couldn’t handle revolutionary girl utena…

On Giving AFO the Chainsaw Man Treatment
Below the cut, find a pair of asks about the chances of AFO's threat being resolved in a similar way as Chainsaw Man deals with its Act I villain. I'm not planning to actually discuss that CSM resolution, but even a passing description of it represents a major spoiler to anyone who's only following the anime, so hit the jump only if that's not an issue for you.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
I gotta say, anons, if anyone in this series has to get age-reversed for a do-over, my first choice would be AFO.
Forgive me; I'm going to talk a lot about the widespread Age-Reversed Shigaraki prediction below. I know you didn't bring up Shigaraki at all—for all I know, you hate that theory just as much as I do!—but most of my familiarity with Baby!AFO is through that filter, so it's through that filter my answer comes. But I don't think either character should get age-reversed, which I'll get to in the latter half of this post. Please just skip to the next bold header if you don't want to read me comparing the two.
Better AFO Than Shigaraki:
So like, as far as I'm aware, the general assumption is that if Shigaraki (the only other candidate for whom reversion to infancy is ever proposed) is rewound to an infant, he’ll truly be an infant, with his memories wiped clean.  And this, it's implied, will give him some kind of moral clean slate whereby the person who committed all the many, many crimes Shigaraki has committed will have “died” and therefore be beyond punishment.
If that would be morally acceptable for Shigaraki Tomura—arguing that the person who caused all that harm and death doesn’t exist anymore—why would it not be morally acceptable for AFO?  If the people who lost homes and loved ones to Shigaraki would be expected to just let bygones be bygones because That Is A Child, why would the same not be true of those AFO hurt?
Of course, the easy answer is that Shigaraki is himself a victim of AFO, whereas AFO is not—so far as we know—the victim of anyone.  Thus, Shigaraki is perceived to be deserving of a second chance, while AFO is not.  But if the karma gets wiped clean regardless—if you can make AFO a better person instead of killing him, give him a chance to grow up as a person who will put good into the world instead of bad—I don’t see the two as being all that different.
If anything, I think it’s a better answer for AFO than it is for Shigaraki.  Narratively speaking, Shigaraki is a product of Hero Society’s failures as much as he is AFO’s upbringing, so addressing those failures is every bit as important as saving him from AFO for the challenge he presents to feel adequately resolved.  AFO, conversely, isn’t challenging a bunch of societal mores,[1] so I feel like the story giving him a do-over wouldn’t feel like it was trying to sneakily evade answering that challenge by raising him up as a good little law-abiding, paradigm-accepting citizen.
Also, the heroes having to deal with Baby!AFO is much, much funnier than them having to deal with Sweet Blameless Tenko.  As someone who staunchly believes that All Might has done sweet fuck-all to earn some kind of saccharine Dad Might Raises Baby Tenko ending, I would far rather see him having to navigate the fraught waters of raising the innocent child version of his lineage’s archenemy.
It Won't Be Either of Them, Though:
All that said, I think it’s going to be a moot point regardless because Ujiko’s little Rewind serum is clearly not working on AFO’s memories, nor was the raw version, so to speak, ever shown to affect Deku or Mirio’s.  Baby!AFO with his memories intact doesn’t solve the problem AFO presents at all, any more than it would for Baby!Shigaraki.  At best, it might reduce the raw physical threat they pose, but if their mentality is unchanged, it’s just kicking the problem down the line for a decade or two.
Even setting the memory issue aside, though, AFO has been pretty clear that the serum has put him on a timer.  He’s fretting about getting to Shigaraki because there’s something he needs to do before he, like Eri’s father,[2] gets Rewound to nonexistence.  I suppose there are ways around this—having Erasure work on the serum’s ongoing effect, having the serum just run out of efficacy before it can eat through AFO’s prodigious lifespan, etc.—but from the current setup, I don’t think a Nayuta-style resolution to AFO is on the table.
And It Shouldn't Be:
And that's just as well. While I think Baby!AFO would be funny, I can really only say that because AFO as we have him here in the endgame is so two-dimensional that he barely registers as having an identity to lose to the ego death of reversion to infancy.
That ego death is why I don't much care for resolutions that involve returning a villain to infancy. Usually, when I see that plot, the unspoken reasoning runs that the affected character had their life and innocence stolen from them, and thus they deserve a second chance at being happy and having a normal childhood. Maybe that's a comforting thought for some people, and I wish those people well of it.
To me, though, it smacks unpleasantly of rhetoric that says that once someone has been hurt enough, scarred enough, changed enough by their suffering, they might as well just die and start over because they're too damaged to ever find happiness again, so why bother trying? I am Extremely Not Here for that message.[3]
Now, there's probably a whole different discussion to be had about how that plot reads symbolically when the author/readers believe in reincarnation. I have no idea where Horikoshi falls on that in the Shinto/Buddhism spectrum most of Japan occupies. Still, I don't know that it can rightly be called reincarnation, if the person has to grow up with the exact same name they had before and is probably being raised by someone who remembers everything they did under that name previously and is always going to have half an eye on making sure they don't grow up the same way again. That's a pretty lousy "new life," isn't it?
IRL subtext aside, I'm also against the idea because, as I mentioned earlier, Magically A Baby Again is too easily used as an end run around having to meaningfully address a character's anger, trauma, wickedness, or whatever motivation is so insurmountable that it can only be defeated by completely obliviating it. That definitely shouldn't happen to Shigaraki, but even with AFO, it feels like it would serve the same function as a Disney Falling Death: remove the villain's menace without dirtying your heroes' sparkling clean hands with the moral responsibility for a death.
Thanks for the asks, anons, and your patience.
------------------ FOOTNOTES ------------------ 1:  Narratively speaking, I mean.  Obviously, as The Supervillain Of All Time, AFO challenges all kinds of societal mores!  But the reader isn’t encouraged to think of those challenges as legitimate the way they are with Shigaraki.
2:  And it only just occurred to me in writing this, if Eri’s quirk requires the consumption of her horn to power the Rewind effect, and we saw it go from Very Large to Tiny Nub just in taking six months off Mirio, what on earth is the explanation for her Rewinding her father out of existence?
3: This is also why I've got zero time for the whole idea that "Shigaraki Tomura" has no meaningful existence of his own; that the thing going by that name is just fifteen years of AFO's Grooming caked on top of an inner perfectly innocent, perfectly preserved, Shimura Tenko.

“Earlier in this video I claimed that Majora’s Mask is a perfect commentary on trauma. And while Link’s healing journey through Termina is one reason for making this claim, what really makes Majora’s Mask stand out is the contrast between how Link and the Skull Kid respond to their traumas. Whereas Link’s actions throughout Majora’s Mask demonstrate the healthy and necessary aspects of trauma recovery, Skull Kid’s actions illustrate how not to cope with trauma if we want to live a life worth living. For this reason, Dr. Herman’s three-phase model of recovery is no longer relevant. So when speaking about the Skull Kid I will reference another psychological model. This one from the realm of conflict resolution. The Circle of Aggression and Reconciliation created by Olga Bacharova. This diagram illustrates not only how one can move from aggression to reconciliation but also how one can get trapped in aggression for, potentially, ever. Bacharova notes that the inner cycle of the diagram demonstrates how natural human responses to harm may move people from being victims to becoming aggressors, and Skull Kid perfectly personifies this movement from victim to villain. You see, Skull Kid’s friends The Giants have left him behind and Skull Kid feels abandoned. This abandonment leads to intense pain and eventually anger. To use Bacharova’s words: “anger has a legitimate yet irrational nature”. To use my own words, even justified anger has a will of its own. No matter how righteous our rage may be, if we allow anger to control our lives forever, it will inevitably cause more pain and suffering. But let’s be honest. Anger is useful. If we are sad we generally lay down, cry or collapse. But if we are angry we tend to take action. Anger gives us energy to move, to make change. And if we are fresh off the heels of a traumatizing event, anger can feel like the only emotion that might keep us going when we would otherwise want to break down. And so it is easy to imagine that Skull Kid would indulge his anger to give himself some relief. Some sense of power and agency against his backdrop of loss. Whereas Link regains his sense of self by healing the pain of others, Skull Kid regains his sense of self by partaking in petty acts of anger and revenge. Unfortunately anger is seductive and addictive. Because of its energy and its usefulness anger can be easily justified and easily abused. And this is the trap that Skull Kid finds himself within throughout Majora’s Mask. With every crime or transgression he commits he assures himself that it’s okay because he is a victim. The more he reassures himself of his righteousness, the more bold and destructive his behaviour becomes. And Skull Kid isn’t just angry with The Giants. He’s angry with the entire world. And this is pretty common. As Bacharova notes; “sometimes anger is directed towards outsiders who are unable to prevent the loss or even towards others who did not experience a similar loss”. I.E. the whole world is seen as hostile.
All of the characters in Majora’s Mask suffer but for some reason Skull Kid seems to believe that his suffering is unique. Somehow more important than the pain of everyone else. Anger has a way of doing that. This tendency understandably causes him to feel isolated and it also allows him to justify his destructive behaviours. These behaviours repel others including his only friends; Tatl and Tael which further isolates him. In other words, Skull Kid’s actions become a self-fulfilling prophecy. What he really wants is the sense of connection he lost when The Giants departed but his anger at their abandonment and his subsequent bad behaviour pushes everyone away. I have to be honest - I feel bad for the Skull Kid. Bacharova says that: “subconsciously, victims want to restore the sense of deep human connectedness destroyed by conflict. In order to make the wrongdoer understand the pain of the victim, he needs to experience a similar suffering. So as twisted as it may sound Skull Kid’s acts of terror are actually just unhealthy attempts to restore his sense of connection with others. He is lonely and afraid and he wants others to feel pain because he is in pain. And if everyone is in pain, maybe he won’t feel so lonely. Whereas Link connects with others by helping, Skull Kid connects with others by hurting. But of course, by trying to connect with others by hurting them Skull Kid experiences more rejection and more abandonment which causes him more pain and invokes more anger and aggression - so he just keeps cycling. This is why Bacharova’s diagram shows a potential for the cycle of aggression to cycle endlessly. It is very difficult, although not impossible, to escape the cycle of aggression once it has started. It is perfectly self-containing and perfectly self-replicating.
In my opinion, Skull Kid, or Majora, if you like, is the most terrifying villain in the Zelda franchise because his desires are so unquenchable. Whereas Ocarina Of Time’s Ganondorf is motivated by power, Majora is motivated by his own pain. If a villain is motivated by a power, we can negotiate with them by giving them power or taking it away. For example in Ocarina Of Time there are people who can stay on Ganondorf’s good side by playing into his vanity and treating him as their leader. In Majora’s Mask, there are no such characters. While there are some shady people who take advantage of the chaos left in Skull Kid’s wake, there are no characters who ally themselves with the Skull Kid. To have friends or allies would take away his feelings of abandonment and therefore his feelings of victimhood and therefore his anger and therefore his power. In this way Skull Kid can be seen as having no weaknesses because the more pain we inflict upon him, the more anger he feels, and the more anger he feels, the more powerful he becomes. So how can we possibly stop him?”
I always find Zelda games to be more significant and profound than most other single-player RPG games. It’s part of the reason it’s my favourite game series of all-time. The creators are always creating stories that allow the main protagonist (and the player as an extension) to find some type of psychological reward to their endeavours over a specifically physical one. I mean the two may and often do come and go together but it’s always the psychological reward that is the most compelling reason to play the games for me.
Majora’s Mask in particular leaves you only with the psychological reward for the most part. But - as you said - you really don’t pick this up about it immediately, if ever - it’s something that settles into you as you return to playing the game the older that you get. And I always prefer art/entertainment of any format that has the consumer grow with it in that they continue to find more and more meaning each time they engage with it rather than just have meaning for them in a specific place in time. Or just the once. In a sense Majora’s Mask is a timeless experience in an overall narrative that focuses specifically on time. The time it takes to do something, the time it takes to achieve a certain goal…. Only for it all to be undone when the clock strikes twelve three days later. And it is frustrating and it is debilitating. You feel like you aren’t doing enough even when you’ve expended every bit of energy you have left on your objectives. It ultimately doesn’t mean anything to get it done. To save the day. The physical reward does not do anything for you or for anyone really because it’s constantly taken from you when time resets itself.
But that is what it feels like to be locked inside trauma. It does feel like a cycle that never ends. And Majora’s Mask captures that experience accurately even for those who do not have internalized trauma. And it is a game that stands out in and of itself even within the franchise to which it belongs in and to. ‘The Legend Of Zelda’ is always a unique experience with each game you play because it almost always involves the human condition - which is always viewed and handled differently depending on the individual. But Majora’s Mask is a game that only feels fulfilling when you’ve forgotten that of which you think needs to be. When you’ve given up looking for an answer and just kept moving regardless of the reward or destination. It’s why I believe it’s not really a children’s game because in some ways it’s like playing a psychological horror game like any of the Silent Hills. It is frightening, it is traumatising, it is an unpleasant experience for the most part when playing the game.
And that’s precisely the point. The creators are asking you to feel something as you play it. Not to just simply play it. Because that’s an empty goal. There is no reason to even complete this game and you may never do so… I certainly never have. But I appreciate the attempt to get us to look inward and understand that completion is pretty meaningless when you’re psychologically stuck in a cycle that you can’t get out of. The only reward is the psychological one and you may never get it or you may always get it. It really depends on you as the player/engager of it.
All true art/entertainment creators seek more from its creation than to simply just be art/entertainment. But very few creators will take away any sense of satisfaction at all in anyone interacting with their creation in order to get that higher result or greater response from it. To leave a psychological impact. And the reason why is that people don’t like to be preached to. They don’t want to go that deep in. They want an escape from real life situations and circumstances such as trauma. They don’t want to literally purchase a reason to dive in and address it. And that’s their prerogative and right. However, for me, it will always mean so much more to me that way because the only reason I do interact/engage with art/entertainment - particularly of a visual format - is so that I can learn more about life and the human condition. Understand it’s difficulties and complexities. Study it’s vastness and variation in how it’s experienced by so many different people of so many different backgrounds and how it informs and influences them to see or think or feel a certain way.
That’s always interesting to me, fascinating even. But so many people prefer art/entertainment to be basic and straight-forward. Not complicated and layered. And again - there’s nothing wrong with that. Art/entertainment is a medium that should be useful or beneficial in many numbers of ways, however deep or shallow, but I’m just saying I prefer it to be the latter because the psychological reward is what I want most out of it. I want to be able to acknowledge and address my traumas, complexes or emotions, as well as come to be aware of and understand other peoples. I want the heavy, I want the hard, I want the heartache. Maybe it seems masochistic and tragic to others to want that in art/entertainment and that’s fair to say… but that’s just me. What can I say? I’m a glutton for pain so long as I get some kind of catharsis out of it. A good cry or a motivation to act or to FEEL SOMETHING. To learn and to evolve through it. To understand self and other just that little bit better because of it. I have no other such requirement out of it but to LEARN. Yes, that’s always the point for me.
Thanks for this analysis. I think you were spot on. Especially about Skull Kid. It is as I always say: hurt people hurt people. And the only healing we can possibly do when it comes to that case is within. As my favourite TV show of all-time ‘Xena: Warrior Princess’ has taught me: “there’s only one way to end the cycle of hatred and it’s through love and forgiveness”. And it’s not an easy thing to do at all. As awful as the things people with this kind of trauma do to us, we have to remind ourselves that everyone has a story and some understanding goes a long way despite how hurt we feel by their actions and choices. We don’t have to forgive them for their sake, as you pointed out. But we do owe it to ourselves to do this or we can’t heal from that cycle of hatred either. And hope - maybe in some way or form - they will change.

Verbal Alchemy
In D/S, words are not mere vessels of communication; they are potent tools that can shape the emotional landscape of the dynamic. The importance of the words dominants choose transcends the boundaries of physical play, extending into the very fabric of the relationship. Understanding the profound impact of verbal communication is paramount, as it can evoke a spectrum of reactions from submissives, ranging from arousal to unintended emotional triggers.
The choice of words holds a unique power in the context of D/S relationships. The dominant relies not just on physical actions but also on the artful weaving of verbal commands, affirmations, and expressions of control. Words have the capacity to arouse desire, create a sense of security, and establish a dynamic where the submissive feels seen and understood. On the flip side, they can also serve as powerful triggers, inciting emotions like anger, fear, or emotional distress.
When seeking specific reactions, dominants must exercise a heightened awareness of their choice of words. Whether aiming for arousal, discipline, or emotional connection, the deliberate selection of language becomes a crucial aspect of the dominant's toolkit. Thoughtful consideration of the impact of words precedes their utterance, emphasizing the need for dominants to be mindful architects of the emotional landscape they wish to cultivate.
Crucially, dominants should be well-versed in recognizing potential triggers for their submissives. These triggers can be deeply personal and rooted in past experiences, traumas, or emotional sensitivities. Knowing these triggers in advance allows the dominant to navigate conversations and scenes with sensitivity, avoiding unintended harm to the submissive's emotional well-being.
Handling situations where words cause unintended emotional triggering is an essential skill for dominants. Communication is key, and a dominant must be open to feedback, creating a space where the submissive feels safe expressing their emotional responses. A genuine and empathetic response from the dominant, acknowledging the impact of their words and actively working towards resolution, fosters trust and reinforces the strength of the D/S dynamic.
The importance of thinking before speaking cannot be overstated. In the heat of the moment, during scenes, or in everyday interactions, dominants must remain vigilant about the potential impact of their words. A momentary lapse in judgment or an unintended phrase can reverberate in the emotional landscape of the relationship.
The importance of words in D/S relationships extends beyond mere communication; it is the bedrock upon which trust, understanding, and emotional connection are built. The power to arouse, discipline, or trigger emotions lies in the hands of the dominant, making their role as careful stewards of verbal expression paramount. Through thoughtful word choice, awareness of potential triggers, and a commitment to open communication, dominants can navigate the intricate dance of language in a way that nurtures and strengthens the D/S relationship, fostering a connection that goes beyond the physical to the very core of emotional intimacy.

"Forging Bonds: Redemption and Reconciliation" || Ulysses & Maverick
Ulysses realized that he not only had to address his actions with Sirena but also with Maverick, Sirena's lover, who was unaware of the situation. Understanding the importance of transparency and honesty, he sought out Maverick to have a heartfelt conversation.
"Maverick," Ulysses began, his voice carrying a tone of sincerity and regret. "I need to talk to you about something, and I want you to know that I deeply regret my recent actions."
He took a deep breath, gathering his thoughts before continuing. "I made a terrible mistake. Out of anger and frustration, I grounded Sirena, preventing her from being with you. It was unfair and unjust, and I recognize the pain and confusion it has caused both of you."
Ulysses met Maverick's gaze, his expression filled with remorse. "I want to apologize to you, Maverick, for my thoughtless actions. Sirena's absence was a direct result of my impulsive decision, and it was never my intention to come between you both or cause you any distress."
He paused, giving Maverick an opportunity to respond or ask questions. Then, he continued with a genuine determination to make amends. "I want you to understand that I am deeply committed to making things right. Sirena means the world to me, and I should have respected her choices and her relationship with you."
Ulysses reached out, placing a hand on Maverick's shoulder, seeking to convey his sincerity. "I promise you, Maverick, that I will do everything within my power to rectify this situation and ensure that Sirena's voice is heard, both figuratively and literally. She deserves to be free and to make her own choices, including being with you."
He took a step back, allowing Maverick space to process his words. "I know that trust has been broken, and it will take time to heal. But please believe me when I say that I am truly sorry for the pain I have caused. I hope that we can find a way to move forward and rebuild the trust that has been damaged."
Ulysses stood before Maverick, hoping that his genuine remorse and commitment to making amends would be evident. He understood that it would take time for Maverick to process his words and decide how to move forward, but he was prepared to do whatever it took to repair the relationships he had inadvertently harmed.
Maverick listened attentively to Ulysses, his emotions a mix of confusion, anger, and concern for Sirena. He appreciated Ulysses' willingness to address the situation and recognized the sincerity in his words. Taking a moment to collect his thoughts, Maverick responded with a measured tone.
"Ulysses, I appreciate you coming to me and acknowledging your mistake. It's difficult for me to comprehend why you would take such drastic actions, but I can sense your remorse and desire to make things right," Maverick said, his voice laced with a mix of caution and concern.
He looked into Ulysses' eyes, searching for sincerity. "Sirena means everything to me, and the fact that she was grounded without my knowledge was deeply hurtful. Trust has been shaken, and I need reassurance that this type of situation won't repeat itself."
Maverick took a deep breath, composing himself before continuing. "I want to believe that you genuinely regret your actions and that you understand the importance of respecting Sirena's choices and our relationship. But rebuilding trust will require more than just words."
He crossed his arms, his gaze steady. "Ulysses, I need your commitment to open and honest communication moving forward. I need to know that decisions involving Sirena's well-being and our relationship will be made together, with her best interests at heart."
Maverick's tone softened slightly, reflecting his desire for resolution. "I care deeply for Sirena, and I want to believe that you do too. But we need to work together to ensure that she is not caught in the crossfire of our conflicts or subject to impulsive decisions that affect her happiness."
He searched Ulysses' face for a sign of understanding. "Can you promise me, Ulysses, that we will strive for transparency, respect, and collaboration moving forward? That we will put Sirena's well-being first and work together to rebuild the trust that has been damaged?"
Maverick's words conveyed his need for reassurance and his hope for a better future for Sirena and their relationship. He wanted to ensure that Ulysses understood the gravity of the situation and the importance of their collective commitment to Sirena's happiness and well-being.
After some time had passed and Maverick and Ulysses had worked on rebuilding trust and establishing a more open line of communication, Maverick felt ready to take the next step in his relationship with Sirena. He wanted to honor tradition and seek Ulysses' blessing before proposing to her.
Maverick approached Ulysses with a mixture of excitement and nervousness, knowing the significance of the conversation they were about to have. He found Ulysses in his study, engrossed in a book, and cleared his throat to get his attention.
"Ulysses, may I have a moment to speak with you?" Maverick asked, his voice steady but filled with anticipation.
Ulysses looked up from his book, sensing the seriousness in Maverick's tone. He nodded and gestured for him to continue.
Maverick took a deep breath, gathering his thoughts. "Ulysses, I come to you today to ask for your daughter's hand in marriage and for your blessing. Sirena means the world to me, and I cannot imagine my life without her. I want to spend the rest of my days loving and cherishing her."
He paused, giving Ulysses a chance to process his words before continuing. "I understand the mistakes I've made in the past and the hurt I caused by not respecting your authority. But I want you to know that I have learned from those mistakes, and I am committed to being the best partner I can be for Sirena."
Maverick's gaze remained fixed on Ulysses, his earnestness evident. "I promise you, Ulysses, that I will always love and protect Sirena. I will support her dreams and aspirations, and together, we will create a life filled with love, respect, and happiness."
He took a step closer, his voice filled with sincerity. "I ask for your blessing, not just as a formality but as a testament to the love and commitment I have for Sirena. I want to build a strong partnership with her, one that reflects the values and traditions that you hold dear."
Maverick awaited Ulysses' response, hoping that his words had conveyed his genuine intentions and his deep love for Sirena. He understood the significance of this moment and was prepared to accept Ulysses' decision, whatever it may be.

To observe is an act of peculiar violence. In your world, its addressed with simpler terms and often considered...well, mostly harmless but is sometimes suspected to be a part in a series of dubious intent. Yet it comes in a variety of flavors and concepts that more often more readily accepted.
A lover glances upon their other, and holds the gaze. The other doesn't notice or at least pretends not to, and merely exists to the lover's quiet, innocent enjoyment. A heart fluttering breeze of an experience, truly and hardly could be considered as harm but what I'm referring to is not the implications of the event, but the initiation of it.
The stare.
The acknowledgement and focus, the way that all sound peers into deeper concentration from that particular direction.
The decision. Voluntary, involuntary, all the same.
Here...the rules are different than what they were amidst mortality. As mentioned before, this is a violence, it is an acknowledgement, a decision, an absolute declaration of action upon the world around you to observe. And every entity around you will return the favor. The wish, that decision it yields their image unto you just as it yields yours unto them. They will return the gaze and be known in whatever form they either choose or sustained upon the observations start.
Jarring isn't it. They stare in return, with a persistence that either emits annoyance, confusion, or anger, or all of these things, you can't tell - because they have no obligation to you and your earthly mind to give an explanation.
It's...limiting. When you commit to an acknowledgement, you possess an expectation, no, a perception, a chosen world view that filters information to be absorbed by what you are. As all these others have realities and concerns all their own, you've intruded into their space and afflicted upon them your insistence.
A range of possibility expands nigh infinitely with the weight of inaction - as a mortal, this concept bears no meaning since any outcome requires both observation and an action for the commit, but for these things beyond most fleshy comprehension, they gain great purchase. In the infinite array of circumstances, a tree amongst too many others appeals to the tastes of this one or that one. Such things can be absorbed simultaneously without a commit for quite a while as these find the whim to scry where they'd want their presence set best.
But the moment you see them.
There is only one.
One instance, one probability, one outcome. Whatever whim, whatever plans, whatever course of knowing changes, and the onset spreads like a vacuous wildfire.
Except...they can't always afford such a thing. So you don't see them. Except for here - kinda. This haven exists as their causeway, and for the whim to observe this violence can't be dodged. It can be returned, however, and in an odd ruse, the weight of this decision is often masked to avoid deviance. As a courtesy...
Do it again and they'll show no obligation for pleasantries.
Demon, ghost, haunting - all of these seem vaguely familiar back there on earth but here...
Well, its a usual approach. To observe and be observe, the violence is met with uncanny visage. Save that, most mortal don't comprehend the dissolution of intent. To them, intent is everything, where as...in reality it's a partial man-made construct deemed fit to exchange or maintain pleasantries.
You'll need to learn how to become a fully resolute being from here on out... the ways of your past will only cause harm here, if you hope to stay.
Just...don't think of it, and you'll be fine.

Why Not Help Them Try Some New Games?
Orbi Gun safety programs for youths make parents really feel protected having guns at home. But they don't work. In case you assume that your young youngster knows what to do when they arrive across a gun, research shows you’re mistaken. Children are just as more likely to handle a gun whereas unsupervised even after having undergone gun safety education. The American Academy of Pediatrics estimates that firearms are one in all the highest three causes of loss of life among U.S. 2012 to 2014, nearly 1,300 youngsters died annually within the United States from a firearm-related harm. But 6 % of these were unintentional and therefore preventable; about half of the accidents took place within the child’s dwelling, while one-third occurred at the home of a friend or a relative. However, when guns are so common within the U.S. 350 million firearms - not having guns in children’s homes (or these they visit) isn’t realistic even whether it is the most effective way to forestall firearm-related accidents and deaths.
While this looks like a cool concept, it is not huge sufficient to shield gamers from any shots unless their opponent is principally standing 4 ft in front of them. Great thought, not so great in execution. The Nerf Modulus Recon MKIII blaster was tough to shoot for both our child and grownup testers-you need to pump the slide back and ahead for each shot-which slowed down how shortly they had been capable of shoot their opponents. The Recon MKIII blaster additionally shoots really exhausting, which led to concern among the many mother and father in our testing group that players may get damage. The Recon MKIII blaster does have a clip that holds 12 darts, however everybody discovered that it was onerous to take away and took time to load (although not as difficult as the Pharaoh). So far as accuracy, the Nerf Modulus Recon MKIII blaster scored fairly low, nevertheless it does have an extended range, making it good to be used exterior. Nerf darts could also be made out of foam, but some Nerf guns are very excessive-impression, so for those who get hit in the eye you will absolutely be headed to the emergency room.
Toy Guns: Do They Lead to Real-Life Violence? Surprisingly, research present no hyperlink between playing with toy weapons in childhood and aggression in adulthood. Tammy Worth and her husband had been determined not to let their two boys, now 7 and 5 years previous, play with toy guns or different pretend weapons. Worth, 36, a journalist in Blue Springs, Mo. Michael Thompson, PhD, youngster psychologist and writer of It's a Boy! Your Son's Development From Birth to Age 18. Yet, most grownup males who did engage in gunplay as children don't commit violent crimes. By the age of two or 3, clear gender preferences emerge in the case of playtime. Normally, boys lean towards aggressive play, akin to fighting monsters, whereas women are more inclined to have interaction with dolls or games that contain family. The basis of those differences has been debated for ages. Thompson says. But the distinction is robust: A current survey discovered that about 60% to 80% of boys play with aggressive toys at home, including guns.
They need to turn into subject material consultants in SWAT tactics, area management, determination-making, crucial incident administration, use of pressure regulation and department coverage. It’s only through a mastery of those topics that SWAT officers might be ready to acknowledge when things are getting off track, articulate the the reason why, and suggest a more defensible and appropriate resolution that will withstand scrutiny. Lieutenant Colonel (ret.) Mike Wood is the son of a 30-12 months California Highway Patrolman and the writer of "Newhall Shooting: A Tactical Analysis," the extremely-acclaimed research of the 1970 California Highway Patrol gunfight in Newhall, California. 2020 introduced legislation enforcement and SWAT teams with challenges - some new and a few not so new. The COVID-19 pandemic and nationwide civil unrest created an unabating OPTEMPO for a lot of teams. It will be the ability of SWAT groups in 2021 and beyond to face, adapt and overcome twenty first-century threats while enhancing upon the 20th-century ways that efficiently got us thus far.
My sister-in-law is Haitian, and my mother goes to Haiti annually to do service work there. They have both talked to me about the potential for adopting from Haiti, and I'm fascinated. Given my family connection to Haiti, I envision being able to present at the least sporadic cultural context to the youngster. I might additionally make an effort to expose the baby to French and Creole, in addition to Spanish and English. My husband and i try to be open and honest individuals, and we are cognizant of white privilege and racism and attempt to fight them where potential. We're cross-cultural nomads and the product of a globalized world, so we tend to assume our dream of adopting internationally/interracially and elevating the little one to be an excellent and effectively-adjusted citizen of the world is a possible one, however then doubts creep in about this simply being pie-in-the-sky, about confusing the hell out of a child with exposure to 4 languages and 4 cultures, and about ruining their sense of identification and belonging.

REALLY FUCKED THAT ALL BUT 2 IN THE HOUSE VOTED ON HOUSE RESOLUTION 888 REGARDING ISRAEL. Doesn’t seem to affect much at first glance until you remember that a House Resolution passed like this may as well be all our reps and their sponsors voicing a unified opinion for Israel as a whole. Of course, there are people doing good in Israel, just as there are people enacting harm in Palestine, but a move like this essentially endorses the Israeli government that has been and is currently committing atrocities upon Palestinian civilians, including children. There is always more nuance than what I’ve written here to any scenario, but this is certainly a look for Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, Omar, Bowman, and other Democratic “progressives” who voted yea on this, as well as some portion of the voters they represent, and certainly their sponsors.
Some parts of this House Resolution make a lot of sense, such as condemning the Hamas-led attack on Israelis, but it also never addresses the irreparable harm Israel has done to Palestinians and equates anti-Israel sentiment with anti-semitism. While I see how “anti-Israel” could be interpreted as “wanting to destroy Israel” and therefore being anti-semitic, I don’t think that’s how many interpret it, and those who do have lived through atrocities placed upon them by Israeli bombs and attacks. This isn’t a “one side wins all” argument, because there is no such thing as a black and white cause differentiation, but it is a call to attention to the USA’s continued policies of war for money, and continued support of Israeli military action.
This is a really good way to look at who voted what, a summary of the house resolution, and a lot of other info if you weren’t aware of it.

Deliverable #3
Deliverable #3
Gun violence is a complex and contentious issue that affects many people and communities. It involves the use of firearms to harm or kill individuals, and it has significant social, political, and public health implications. Opinions on gun violence and gun control vary widely, with some advocating for stricter gun control measures to reduce violence and others emphasizing the importance of Second Amendment rights in the United States, where the debate is particularly intense.
How do you and your family feel about gun violence? "Hello, I'm Fatima, and I'm from Somalia originally. In 2007, my family and I moved to Oregon in search of a better life and more opportunities.  However, my younger cousin Abdi wasn't lucky enough to take advantage of every chance. In the daytime of 2021, Abdi was shot and killed. Abdi was the oldest child who was just 16.We are still in anguish even though this happened a few years ago.  Abdi was her first kid, and because of her illness, she was devastated to lose him. She raised him all by herself. Although he is only a teenager, she consistently warns about hanging out with people you don't trust. After a year the mother also passed away due to cancer. Returning to your initial question, gun violence is a serious issue that takes the lives of many young Black males at a young age.
Do you feel safe living in this neighborhood? “I don’t feel safe living here. I may have just mentioned my cousin Abdi but there is always shooting in this area and my family and I fear for our life everyday. ( Fatima and her family live in SouthEast Portland) When a shooting takes place in a neighborhood, the locals who are either witnesses or informed of the event may experience trauma. There may be long-term psychological and emotional repercussions from the trauma. When I was a kid I used to play outside with my friends on the playground but that doesn’t happen now. The childrens don’t even go outside because we are worried for their safety.”
What steps can we take to reduce gun violence in our neighborhood? “I would say community-engaging events. If there is an activity that will keep them busy I think we can save them from doing bad things and from making decisions that will hurt others. Even having a deep conversation with them and talking to them about the issue.”
(Fatima wasn't happy with the photo thing so I didn't take a picture of her)
Effects on Child Development The consequences of exposure to violence on child development are very real. CWLA’s National Blueprint points out that children and youth exposed to chronic trauma can experience inhibited brain development, producing a lasting impact on life outcomes. Likely a result of such exposure, participants noted numerous skill deficits among the children and youth they serve who live in neighborhoods that have high rates of poverty and crime. As suggested by the research, many children experience problems with violence and aggression because they lack nonviolent conflict-resolution skills. Much of this violence and aggression is further exacerbated by emotional overload from exposure to violence. Children and youth exposed to violence experience significant stress, and often struggle to identify and regulate their emotions, as a result of developmental impacts from their frequent exposure to trauma. Their emotions are often internalized and can later erupt in aggression and violence. (Collins, 2013)
Reducing gun violence in a neighborhood requires a collaborative effort that involves residents, community leaders, law enforcement, and policymakers. It's essential to address both the immediate consequences of violence and the root causes that contribute to it. Building a safer neighborhood is a long-term process, and ongoing commitment and persistence are necessary to achieve lasting change. https://www.cwla.org/the-impact-of-gun-violence-on-children-families-communities/
The main stakeholders in gun control are the National Rifle Association (NRA) and the Brady Campaign. The National Rifle Association was started shortly after the Civil War in 1871, by a group of Union officers who were very impressed by the performance of Union forces compared to that of the Confederates. The Union forces suffered twice as many casualties on average at each battle, through the course of the war, and to prevent this from happening again, the group of Union officers began to develop training regiments and drills that made the armed forces more capable at handling firearms.
Developing a Comprehensive Strategy
To protect their citizens' health and safety, and to address the fear of gun violence, many communities are successfully combating such violence by adopting a strategy that takes into account the specific gun violence problem experienced by their community and then identifies an appropriate solution. This problem-solving approach requires that stakeholders in the community collaborate to develop and implement a comprehensive gun violence reduction plan. Although one stakeholder (e.g., law enforcement, a public official, or a community group) may initiate the process and the same stakeholder (or another) may spearhead it, consultation and collaboration are essential.
Establish stakeholder partnerships
‘’Gun violence does not discriminate. It strikes purposefully and randomly, in inner cities and rural towns, wounding rich and poor, blind to differences in skin color and religion. In short, gun violence operates throughout the community. As a result, participation from Federal, State, and local law enforcement; juvenile justice authorities; businesses; families; faith communities; civic organizations; and health and social service agencies is necessary to successfully prevent gun violence. Harnessing the resources of these stakeholders and creating a successful partnership frequently requires strong leadership from law enforcement. However, a successful partnership invites multiple perspectives and allows for the sharing of responsibilities and accomplishments.’’
It's important to recognize that stakeholders may have overlapping roles and experiences, and their impacts can be interconnected. For example, community organizations may collaborate with law enforcement and healthcare providers to support victims. Addressing the diverse impacts of gun violence often requires a coordinated effort involving multiple stakeholders to create comprehensive solutions and mitigate the effects on individuals and communities.

First Nation chief calls for ‘peaceful resolution’ on Trudeau’s visit to Kamloops, B.C.
After snubbing the First Nation’s invitations on the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation, Justin Trudeau visited Tk’emlúps te Secwépemc for the first time on Monday. Elders, Kukpi7 Rosanne Casimir, and guests participated in a ceremony honoring residential school survivors and the children who never made it home and invited the prime minister to speak.
When he did, he said Canada was "ready to partner" on reconciliation. The community seeks "peaceful resolution" for past and current harms, according to Kukpi7 Casimir, by restoring honor and dignity to the missing children, Le Estcwéy.
Every day, she added, Indigenous peoples are retraumatized by the sharing of their stories and pain on national news. "We want you to be interested in us and to understand more fully the conditions under which we live," she said in her remarks on Monday.
Ottawa must collaborate on a clear path forward for healing, said Kukpi7 Casimir, beginning with funding for a healing center for the community. She also called on the federal government and the Catholic Church to provide access to all documents related to the residential school system and commit to meaningful action to address its harms.
Trudeau said Monday there's "no question" the federal government will compensate survivors and that Ottawa aims to ensure Indigenous children are no longer removed from their cultures and communities. He also committed to permanently lowering Canada’s flags to half-mast on the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation.
Trudeau faced significant backlash for vacationing in Tofino, B.C., instead of accepting Tk’emlúps te Secwépemc’s “heartfelt” invitations to attend Sept. 30 ceremonies at its Powwow Arbour.
The prime minister had spoken with some residential school survivors by phone the night before and attended a ceremony on Parliament Hill, but later apologized for the trip, calling the decision a "mistake." "For all of us, it was the shock, the anger, and the sorrow, and the disbelief was palpable in our community and rippled around the world," said Kukpi7 Casimir on Monday.
"Today is about making some positive steps and rectifying some missed steps." Again on Monday, Trudeau said he "deeply" regretted that choice and has "many regrets" from that day.
"I am deeply grateful to Kukpi7 Casimir for having welcomed me here today," he said during the press conference. "After Sept. 30, she could have chosen to turn her back on me and the federal government… and yet she reached out and said, "Please come, listen, and learn; then we will walk this path together."
Tk’emlúps te Secwépemc sent shockwaves of anger and grief across the country in May when it announced the remains of 215 children had been found in an unmarked burial site at the former Kamloops Indian Residential School in British Columbia. Other First Nations searched their own former residential school sites with ground-penetrating radar, revealing more than 1,000 other children had been buried. The Cowessess First Nation in Saskatchewan was the only one to find 751 children.
In the months since, Trudeau has announced that Canada will hold its first National Day of Truth and Reconciliation, six years after the Truth and Reconciliation Commission first requested one. After his trip to Tofino, Tk’emlúps te Secwépemc released a statement saying it wasn’t interested in "apologies that don’t lead to institutional and widespread change."
Asked whether he thought the First Nation accepted his apology, Trudeau responded: "Words do matter, and with an apology, recognizing the harm that was caused is an important first step towards healing, towards restitution, towards doing right." "But it’s not just about words; it’s about actions."
Terry Teegee, regional chief of the B.C. Assembly of First Nations said he acknowledged and respected the commitments made by the prime minister on Monday, but Indigenous peoples are beyond "theatrics." "We need to see action, whether it’s providing records for our Indigenous children that are yet to be found or moving ahead with our resources for healing centers," he explained.
Canada’s residential school system was in place from the late 1800s to the mid-1990s and sought to "eliminate parental involvement in the intellectual, cultural, and spiritual development" of Indigenous children, according to the Truth and Reconciliation Commission. The state and church-run institutions forcibly removed more than 150,000 First Nations, Métis, and Inuit children from their families and placed them in schools where many were physically, sexually, and spiritually abused by those charged with their care. Many were also starved as part of scientific experiments on the effects of malnutrition.
Thousands died in the harrowing system of assimilation, leading to intergenerational trauma that has had a deep and lasting impact on survivors, their children, relations, and communities. In 2015, the TRC found Canada guilty of "cultural genocide," and to this day, governments have failed in many ways to meaningfully repair or compensate for the lasting harm.

Copy pasting my youtube comment on Bayonetta 3′s ending cause I feel strongly about it
Spoilers, ye be warned as all hell
Spoilers here man, I warned you.
I finished this the day it came out in the US since I got it in Japan, so I have had THOUGHTS. TBH, I'd take just about everything with this ending--even the Luka Bayo hookup, cripes--if they just clarified what happened with Singularity dispersing, and if that restored the worlds. That single change can open the doors to SO many things. 1. Were Luka and Bayo's uncharacteristic closeness there a result of their many selves collapsed in on each other? Cause at least one verse out there is a Bayonetta and Luka who had a kid together. That and Bayonetta's extreme vulnerability in that moment could have accounted for that moment. It wouldn't take too much work to retcon/reclarify their affirmations to each other and the kiss as mutual comfort and support in the face of the end rather than a full on commitment to a relationship so many fans are weirded out about. 2.  Manhattan is clearly restored, even things destroyed in the end are back as if they never broke (see: the statue of liberty with the oxidization green color only time could have created, making a point of showing the unbroken cruise ship from the start). Enzo talking on the phone to someone he calls 'baby' could be seen as a dirty rat moment of him getting a gf so soon after his family died, but he's been characterized as nothing but a devoted family man from the start, even with his various flaws. This insinuates that everything destroyed or vanished in the Singularity incident was restored--including, potentially, people. This gives us the tools to assume Jeanne is ok. So what is she up to? We need to see before we can call this game 'over.' 3. Rodin makes a mention to Viola that its him who 'has to hear it from her Pops if she skips school.' Rodin, as the only guy among them who can visit Hell, all but confirms that Luka at least is unharmed and in a place to be checking in on Viola's progress. What's the situation in Hell where Luka's safe to do that? 4. The Old Book of Stories you can get after the end of the game, and the simple game with Cereza and plush Cheshire. What is that doing in the game? Jeanne is featured at the end, calling out for Cereza. Is she looking for her? It's a pretty world, but there are demonic plants and she's jumped by monsters at the end before the cliffhanger. Is this possibly post-game Bayonetta's 'hell' where she is vulnerable and underpowered, with Luka as the Cheshire doll? Will this lead to her gaining more footing, more power, and more of herself? 5. And while point 4 was just speculation, it WOULD be fitting to say that Bayonetta's soul would be one of the most hotly prized items in Hell for how utterly powerful Bayonetta is. Could that be something Bayonetta can utilize to her advantage down there? Can enough demons trying to wreck each other to get the right to eat her work to keep her safe from fulfilling her contract? Will Madama Butterfly reveal why her allegiance to Bayonetta has been so unnaturally strong?  And, since her contracts are fulfilled and the infernal power is technically no longer hers to command, could she start defeating demons to earn their servitude, and potentially even set sights on becoming the Queen of Hell? That's FAR more fitting a goal for her than just rolling up in a ball and dying. 6. As for Bayo 1 and 2 being there, sure it could be just badly explained fan service--but what if it could be more? What if Singularity accounted for space, but not time? The Eyes of the World have featured before, and its possible he thought that so long as the present was accounted for, the past was irrelevant. But what if it's Past Bayonettas from the main universe that saved Bayo in the end? Could that be explored to further work around any harm Singularity caused? In other words, addressing the rules of the Singularity's defeat could open up a lot of ways to give more satisfying resolutions, or even more satisfying cliffhangers. This is all not even mentioning exploring what the heck was up with Luka's sudden Thing, using Viola as an audience surrogate to slowly learn more about Witch abilities from the ground up, possibly reincorporating Loki into the cast when he's grown old enough. There's so much that can be done here! But Platinum has to work on a DLC or update, FAST, to mitigate the sheer disappointment people are going to feel at this ending, or the good will to receive all this potential might already be completely lost. Platinum, you got a grace period of a matter of days--think fast!
(OH and to clarify on Luka--I think it was more or less explained that it's not that Luka has always just been a werewolf or smth, the only thing that's ''always' been true is that his own voice (the voice of the Dark Adam) called out into the universe for other hims to 'seek the truth' and therefor he felt like a sham for claiming that his search for the truth was motivated by himself or by seeking justice against Bayo when really it was more a lifelong compulsion. Not even in universe did that reasoning impress anyone. But also, he's only a werewolf right now because in some verse or another, he had that power. And as his selves fold in on each other as Singularity keeps destroying other worlds, he gets saddled with more powers he doesn't actually know how to manage. So it's a side effect of the world's destructions, not a latent power or condition to the Luka we know per say.
Course, does the idea that Luka is the destined Proto-Adam to Bayo's Proto-Eve seem contrived and stupid as hell? Oh absolutely. But if the scifi angle can keep it in its pants and say that's just the naming system and doesn't really elude to their relation to one another just their roles, I can let it go. 'Destined by fate to belong to someone by nature of their being' doesn't seem either of their styles, nor fit the main theme of deciding their own truth. Also what does a proto-Adam even...do? Wrong answers only thx )

“they’ve (humans) fought off so many things, including the worst of their own people“
13 says this about humans in resolution to the dalek, and i’d forgotten about it or not clocked it before and only just saw it while trying to make a gif, but it’s interesting to me because she says it with respect. Even with pride, imo.
13 consistently claims to be a pacifist and this isn’t super interesting to me beyond the fact that she’s clearly lying (like, for clarity's sake this is not me slamming her. I’ve had people think that before but i don’t claim to be a pacifist because i do not believe all violence is equal, much in the way 13 doesn’t, tbh. The refusal to commit violence can be a powerful tool in specific situations but as a flat out ideal that you are unwilling to compromise on it can toe painfully close to ‘silence is on the side of the oppressor’ in action. I’m not insulting her... I think more of her for it Not being true.)
But she is lying, her pacifism is another part of that happy go lucky ‘ideal’ doctor she’s cooked up for everybody to look at in S11 while trying to be the person 12 wanted. She clearly thinks she Should be a pacifist to be that great person.
13′s motivations are interesting because okay, the doctor historically does Not do well with people not willing to stick up for themselves or others. Think of that species who are the most invaded??? species in the universe? Their planet has the record for the most invasions? them? Because they just roll out the welcome matt and accept it all. 11 was frustrated by them. I’d say 12 kind of actively hated them. 13 in the above scene with the dalek expresses respect for humanity’s willingness to fight the hell back, even against themselves, and we can all think of a few different instances in history where humanity has fought back against people who deserved it... Point being, she’s the same as the other doctors, she doesn’t have any philosophical differences causing her to disdain sticking up for yourselves and others... Unlike them, she’s just lying.
I actually don’t think 13 Wants to be a pacifist as much as she thinks she should want to be one. 13 wants to be a lot of things... She wants to be the lie she was pedaling in s11, she wants to live a life of no violence. She doesn’t get to have these things because that’s just not her. Even if she Does want to be a pacifist genuinely, she doesn’t want to be one enough that her own principles matter more to her than saving innocent lives.
The point is, I guess, that 13 respects fighting, she is a fighter, she respects those who fight back she just doesn’t think she Should. There’s a genuine discussion to have around the morals here, because 13′s saying pacifism is great and the Best you you can be is a pacifist, but she is both lying about it being so brilliant and the show consistently narratively points out thhat fighting back Is okay by having her, you know, fight back as the heroic protagonist. They illustrate this also through Ryan who took this no violence approach very seriously and thinks very hard about whether he will fight back or not even in a situation where he will surely die and suffer a horrific fate if he does not. He decides to fight... when he celebrates the destruction he causes he almost gets shot by cybermen, but he is Never condemned for fighting back against them in general, just getting glee from it.
The message is, imo, clear, that the glorification of violence is a mistake, but that doesn’t mean that sometimes it is not necessary and that is can very well be acceptable and something to respect. Be it to save yourself or to fight back against those who would kill or oppress you (the cybermen, who do both), the action of fighting back is Not the same as them attacking you to begin with.
Idk, i see people talk about 13′s pacifism in a good light a lot and i have had pushback multiple times when i call her out for lying because it is perceived i am insulting her but the thing is... I don’t think the narrative Wants us to take away the message that ‘pacifism is always good’. I don’t think we’re supposed to respect the idea of Never fighting. I think it wants us to be Ryan, and therefore who 13 actually is, and not who she claims to be. Do not be gleeful in your violence but do not think it is inherently bad to fight back against people who would oppress or harm you, because it’s not.

But also, I am interested in how she places emphasis on humans fighting back against ourselves in the above scene, and us fighting the Worst of our own species in how it would relate to her relationship with the time lords. Especially in regards to the new knowledge of what was done to build the society. Especially in regards to the fact that it did, in fact, actually backfire on them eventually and one of their own fought back for what was done. I mean, he also slaughtered billions of others who were in no way actively culpable, but he was also, technically, acting out against the evils done by the ones who actually Were genuinely terrible people. Once again, his glee in his violence marks him as in no way in the right by the narrative even past the whole innocent people thing, but i would Love to her 13′s take on this nowadays.
