I never really saw myself being the type who would have multiples of a particular sculpt, but somehow I have ended up with a gaggle of Volks Nonos - the Nono Collective, as we call them in our little house. :D

In the top pic, you can see everyone together. Left to right, we have:

Kuno - Volks SD10 Ryo (Nono13/F-11) on a modified SD13 body in PS normal

Ino - Volks FCS F-11 SDGr Boy in PS Sunlight

Aino (aka Twinkie)- Volks SD10 Nono (F-9) + SD13 girl body, dyed tan

Yukino (aka Noneko) - Volks YoSD Nono

They're all siblings, with the exception of Yukino, who is a persian housecat. Aino, Ino, and Nono are triplets and the other bigs as elder siblings.

The Collective is mostly complete... unless I can get a cheap YoSD Ryo, an old-skin, original release fullset Nono (preferably the blond kimono one, but I'd take the Miko one). I lost a Y!J auction over the weekend for a tan SD10 one-off Nono (IT WAS SO EXPENSIVE), so I will likely keep looking for something like that... but honestly, these guys take up WAY TOO MUCH SPACE in an tiny house, so I am completely happy stopping the collection here.

Fixed! @oak23 Thank you for saying it's how He-man figures are repaired; when I looked that up the tutorial gave the exact screw part size and number and it worked perfectly for this. Threaded some small flat elastic through the body (NOT EASY!) and through the eye screw, then tied it as tight as I could. She has good articulation though I'm not sure how well it matches the original ball; perhaps rather better in some directions.

Some yosd sized shoes fit over her sculpted shoes, as well as *le gasp* Glitter Girls skates!!!

And she is very much a head accessories kind of doll. Er, figure. Whatever. I don't know why I accumulate so many dolls without hair but here we are.

Double Box Opening - Gem of Doll Body & DollyZone Body

Here they are, it was a bit hard to get hold of the parcels as my street isn't reachable rn due a construction site and I had to reroute the parcel to my coworker as FedEx failed to deliver yesterday.

But she brought the parcels with her today and I was able to unbox and turn Kanda and Maple into full dolls.

Finally. Kanda's head arrived in December 2022... it was about time. But the body is really wonderful, I only knew the YoSD bodies from Gem of Doll but the MSD body seems to be equally sturdy and I like the scales of the dolls next to each other.

The DollyZone is just so adorable. I will need some research to figure out what kind of shoes she can wear (my guess would be Blythe sized?), we will see =)

Both need clothes sewn. Kanda has.. boots at least.

I recently repainted my sweet little Itsy Betsy as she’d badly damaged her last Faceup by leaping off the shelf in my doll cabinet, trying to take dolls with her. Fortunately no other doll got damaged, and it was the perfect excuse to finally repaint her as I hated the last Faceup I put on her.

I’m really happy with the changes I made this time around in painting her. She’d been based on a peacock jumping spider, so her old Faceup was really dramatic, but it didn’t suit her. Not only did I soften her look, but I put the extra painted eyes along her cheekbones, which gave me room to put eyebrows on her.

Quick before and after of her. It’s funny to me how much her body’s mellowed, she needs a good cleaning to match her head again!

I kinda regret falling for the tinyf0x hype. I really wish people didn’t lie and say they were vinyl when they aren’t, because if I’d known that I wouldn’t have bought two of them. This is important because if they were vinyl, they would be able to be stain treated in the same way. They’re not, but they stain just as easy, and if that happens then you’re fucked because good luck removing the stains. Trying to stain treat will remove the imitation vinyl soft matte coating off the plastic, leaving you with ugly holes in the coating like shiny plastic ‘scars’. All that aside, the bodies have weird short arms that I can’t unsee after someone pointed them out. There’s a reason so many people put baggy sleeves on them, it makes their arms look longer.

At least the heads are cute, but I think I could have got similar sculpts from elsewhere. They are apparently retiring the imitation vinyl coating so maybe future dolls will be easier to stain treat, I don’t know. My complaint about the body shape still stands. People acted like they were this incredible revolutionary thing- vinyl YoSDs!!!! and I really wish I didn’t fall into that. If I at least waited I could have gotten an Im0modoll at a fraction of the price, and those are actual vinyl.

doll collection rambling don't mind me

i'm selling my volks mika and ryo, i don't do anything with them tbh.

camael needs a new body cos i hate three part torsos and i'm wanting him to be shorter. i have him on a 68cm body cos originally his character was over six feet tall. with all my revisions, he's now like ~5'9" or like 175-6cm give or take. a 62-65cm body would work best, then i can have taehyun on a 68cm body. knowing me, this will change cos i adore the telesthesia & dragon 72cm body...

acchan needs silly little outfits once i pick an era. i like him blonde a lot, but i also love his short black hair. if i stick with the more current era i could have him in the fluffy coat from the kemonotachi no yoru pv, and get another pair of yosd hands to give him the claws. and there's all those black lace tops. but my big issue is shoes. i can't find shoes that will work cos like 99% of yosd shoes are too kiddie looking. i want him to be perfect.

the next doll i'm getting is uriel's new shell, an impldoll eudora. haven't decided on a body yet, i like both of the new impl bodies a lot. taehyun will probably be after uriel.

Rainbow High Customization Notes

I mainly collect Asian ball-jointed and fashion dolls so I don't have much experience with Western fashion dolls. I had to do research on how to customize these dolls and here are my notes organized.

Wig

6-7 or a tighter 7-8 inch

I tried both 6-7 and 7-8. 6-7 will not slip but a 7-8 is much easier to put on. You'll need a wig cap or tape. These wig sizes are sometimes listed as 1/6 or YoSD (6-7) and 1/4 or MSD (7-8) by sellers. I will be using a 6-7 wig for my Mini Karp.

YoSD and MSD are BJD community jargon for dolls that are similar in size to Volks' Young Super Dollfie and Mini Super Dollfie lines. YoSD sized dolls are designed to look like children next to 1/3 or Super Dollfie (SD) sized BJDs. People also use Large ( 50cm+), Mini (~40cm), and Tiny (~30cm) when taking about doll sizes.

Eyes

Eyes are a unique shape. Recommended getting factory reject eyes from AliExpress. Eyes fit into holes inside the head. Cutting the head open will not allow you to replace the eyes. The eyes must be squeezed out after heating the head in warm water.

18-20mm eyes will fit inside RH's eye holes. If you're using not RH eyes, I recommend acrylic or resin anime styled eyes.

Body

Thicker than Pullip/Blythe, 1/6 Obitsu, and regular Barbie.

Thinner than standard Tiny sized BJDs (YoSD size).

The body and head are not proportional. The head is comparable to YoSD sized dolls, while the body is more in line with "mature tiny" sized dolls. However it is still a bit too thick for most mature tinies.

Mature Tiny is jargon for Tiny dolls that have more adult proportions.

Clothing

✅ LOL OMG tops and bottoms if they're stretchy, accessories

✅ Curvy Barbie tops, bottoms

✅ NaNaNa Surprise tops, bottoms, dresses

⚠️ YoSD tops, skirts, dresses, socks, belts may be able to fit with modifications
