Today, February 8th, marks the release date of Yo-kai Watch 3! Unlike Yo-kai Watch 2 and Yo-kai Watch Blasters, the localized version of the game only has one version, based on Sukiyaki, having all the new features added in that version. It is currently the last Yo-kai Watch game to have been localized worldwide, due to bad sales of the series, and is also often seen as the best by fans.

Why I think Yo Kai Watch 2 is leagues better than Pokemon games - a fuck you to those Pokemon “fans”

To start with, what do Pokemon games usually lack? Replay value. Once you become champion, there’s not really another incentive to play the game again. You just put it back on your shelf with the thought of “oh it’s over” and never touch it again. Okay granted, both versions of Gen 2 give you the ability to travel to Kanto and relive your playthrough of Pokemon Red/Blue, but most of the Pokemon games lack an incentive for replaying. Most Pokemon postgame content would be “o no, legendary are running amok in pokeman world, gotta catch dem and be powerful trainer and shit”. But Yo Kai Watch? I’ve played the second game to this very day because it’s just so fun. (The first game wasn’t for me, sorry guys) With the power of internet and some QR codes, you’ll be given access to rare Yo Kai to battle for a chance of befriending them daily, giving the game instantly more of an incentive to be replayed to hell and back.

Also if you have 2 versions of Yo Kai Watch 2, you can link them to unlock a secret area, Mystery Way. What do you get if you buy both versions of the same Pokemon game most of the time? NOTHING. No additional content whatsoever for spending your 120 bucks on both versions of a game from a beloved franchise. “yo kai watch sux” my ass.

And one of the things Yo Kai Watch has over most Pokemon games is that you can walk with your Yo Kai. When was the last time Pokemon let you do that? Oh yeah, Heart Gold and Soul Silver. As in, about YEARS ago. (Yeah Pokemon Sword also does that, but it’s locked behind DLC so it doesn’t fucking count)

And the battle system is reformatted each time, making each game not feeling like the same game over and over again. (Yeah I know this applies to all Yo Kai Watch games not just 2, but I wanna give it a brief mention so shut up) 2 has the Model Zero, 3 has this grid battle system, 4 has this open arena, and Blasters expands on the sidegame included in 2, Psychic Blasters. When was the last time a Pokemon game doesn’t feel like the same goddamn thing Pokemon fans? It’s ok, I’ll wait.

Also the bosses actually require strategy this time around instead of just “find effective typing”. You have to know which one of Slimamander’s heads hold the eye, attack Massiface’s eyes to lower his attack power, not target Sproink’s belly button when he’s stuck, and what does Pokemon have that matches those awesome bosses? It’s ok, I’ll wait.

And the music. Sweet bloody piss on a glass, the FUCKING MUSIC. If I had to choose between Yo Kai Watch 2 or any Pokemon game in the music department, I’d pick Yo Kai Watch 2 in a heartbeat. Cause unlike Yo Kai Watch, Pokemon has only 2 bangers. That’s right, TWO. Same amount of lovable music as Fuck Off : That Really Stupid Game.

So yeah, that’s why my philosophy 99% of the time is “fuck Pokemon, yes Yo Kai Watch 2″. Now that I’m done sharing my thoughts, I’m done for the day. See ya

y'know i didn't realize until like a month ago that like. when a boss yo-kai uses a soultimate it's logical to try to cancel it. usually i just accept it and swap in my weaker yo-kai if i can do that quick enough-

#puppy rambles #yo-kai watch #ywb #the dialogue isn't as comedy driven as 1 n 2 #but also it has one of jibanyan's dialogues in the blasters house being him wondering what nate's up to or something along those lines #so we at least have Pure Friendship Moments™ #n also buchinyan <3 beloved #also komasan said “later tader” in an audio clip n it was adorable. why doesn't he use that clip in 3 #jibanyan has barely verbal tic'd. i don't think he has at all #meanwhile buchinyan verbal tics literally every. single. sentence #like yea i get it. you're a fusion between whisper n jibanyan n you fuse their verbal tics #even though whisper doesn't have an english verbal tic n jibanyan's isn't always nya n is sometimes nyan #but do you really have to say it every single sentence- #‚‚‚ to be fair that's how i write the verbal tics in my rewrite- #it's mostly just annoying when you give me a tutorial n are saying that at the end of every sentence #looking at you jibanyan giving the movement tutorial in 3 n saying nyan to an excessive degree-
