N AGC TO BE KILLED - 8/15/2018 SUKI IS AN ANGEL ON EARTH, AND SHE’D LIKE TO STAY THAT WAY, PLEASE! <3 She’s simply an angel on earth, a chubby, cuddly, super sweet senior who lost her home when her parent became homeless. With them SUKI lost many friends, including the 14 year old child she loved, the cat she adored the many dogs who she used to play with in the neighborhood. Now, this affectionate, perfect 9 year old senior lady is hoping with all her gentle heart that a family will give her a new retirement home. There is not a person on earth who doesn’t fall instantly in love with SUKI the minute they meet her. Wiggly, relaxed, easygoing, mellow (and her parent said, “nosy” 😊 ). she is a dream dog. Her resume is sterling – house trained, she knows many commands, never pulls on the leash, and well behaved home alone. Her parent also said that Suki never cared if you took away her treats or food or toys – in fact, she would just sit and beg to try to get them back. got all COVETED 1’S ACROSS THE BOARD on her SAFER (the best you can get) and a platinum AVERAGE rating. She also was a polite greeter in doggy playgroup so would not mind having a polite and calm doggy friend as a housemate. She does have hyperthyroidism, that will need to be managed with the appropriate drugs and diet, but it’s such a small price to pay for so much love in return. If you are the type who has made a list of all the qualities you would love to have in a dog, we know that SUKI would not only tick off all your boxes, she would come to the table with so many other gifts, ones you never thought of, but will be grateful all your life for. Manhattan ACC, Large Mixed Breed, Brown / White, Spayed Female Owner Surrender Reason: Owner Homeless Shelter Assessment Rating: AVERAGE (suitable for a foster or adopter with average dog experience) Intake Behavior Rating: 1. Green AT RISK MEMO: Suki is at risk for medical reasons. Suki is very obese and suffers from untreated hypothyroidism which will require ongoing monitoring and treatment. She also has some dental disease and skin tags. behaviorally we have no concerns for Suki, whom we believe would be suitable for most homes able to address and continue to monitor her health concerns. INTAKE NOTES – DATE OF INTAKE, 8/12/2018: Suki scanned negative for a microchip. Suki had alert eyes and ears. She cried when her owner left. She allowed all picture taking and handling. OWNER SURRENDER NOTES – BASIC INFORMATION: 9 year old Suki was surrendered because of a change in her owner's living situation. Her owner got her 8 years ago from a neighbor. Suki last received vet care in June 2018. Suki is overweight due to hyperthyroidism. She previously lived with 2 adults and 1 child, age 14. Suki is friendly around strangers. She is friendly with a 14 year old child. Suki is relaxed around other dogs, and she lived with a 5 year old cat that she was relaxed and respectful towards. Suki isn't bothered when food, treats, or toys are taken away. She will beg for them back. She isn't bothered when a stranger approaches her or her home. Suki has never bitten a person or animal. She is housetrained and has a medium activity level. Suki has no concerning behavioral issues. She barks during thunder, lightning, and fireworks. Suki isn't bothered when bathed or brushed. She barks and struggles when having her nails trimmed. Suki has a medical issue. She is overweight due to hyperthyroidism. For a New Family to Know: Suki is described as friendly, affectionate, playful, shy, mellow, anxious, and nosy. She loves playing with sticks and eating treats. She tears up balls and stuffed animals. At home she follows you around and hangs out in the same room. She is mostly indoors. Suki sleeps on her own small couch or on the floor when its hot. Suki eats 1 cup of dry science diet 2x/day with a 2 spoonfuls of wet food. She likes milkbones. She is house trained. When left alone she is well-behaved. She has never been crate trained. She knows sit, stay, fetch, and lay. She doesn't pull on leash. Off leash she stays close by. SHELTER ASSESSMENT – DATE OF ASSESSMENT, 8/13/2018 Look:: 1. Dog's eyes are averted, with tail wagging and ears back. Allows head to be held loosely in Assessor's cupped hands. Sensitivity:: 1. Dog leans into the Assessor, eyes soft or squinty, soft and loose body, open mouth. Tag:: 1. Dog follows at the end of the leash, body soft. Paw squeeze 1:: 1. Dog gently pulls back his/her paw. Paw squeeze 2:: 1. Dog gently pulls back his/her paw. Flank squeeze 1:: Item not conducted Flank squeeze 2:: Item not conducted Toy:: 1. Minimal interest in toy, dog may smell or lick, then turns away. ASSESSMENT SUMMARY: Suki approached the assessor with a soft body. She was social throughout the assessment, allowed all handling, and displayed no concerning behaviors. PLAYGROUP NOTES – DOG TO DOG SUMMARIES: Suki may be most compatible with other dogs who are respectful and calm.
