A summary to the family relationships in Voltage Inc stories

I once posted about how the MCs from Voltage Inc are mostly mentally healthy girls from complete families, with both parents being more than adequate and usually with siblings. The statistics for the games I am writing for are like this:

Her Love in the Force: Two alive parents that are good at parenting and an alive sibling good at "siblinging"

Irresistible Mistakes: Two alive parents that are good at parenting and an alive sibling that briefly mentioned

Oops! I Said Yes?!: Two alive parents that are adequate at parenting

Plust: Love U So True: Two alive parents that seem to be good at parenting

Romance MD: Always on Call: ... She is the one whose family status can be compared to the LIs

Tokyo Love Hustle: I don't remember, but I'm not sure both her parents are alive

So, out of 7 MCs, only one and a half (if anyone remembers TLH's MC's backstory, tell me what's up with her) have a tragic backstory regarding their families, which makes up around 80% of MCs with no family trauma. If we take more MCs, then it probably is 85%. Now, let's see how we are with the boys. (I don't remember or know all their stories, so correct me if I wrote something wrong).

So, here we have 35 characters. The ones about whom I don't know anything don't fall into the first category, from what I remember. And even if we put the last one in the first category, we still have a rate of 23% with no family trauma. By games, it looks like this:

Her Love in the Force: No trauma = 12,5% (1/8)

Irresistible Mistakes: No trauma = 30% (3/10)

Oops! I Said Yes?!: No trauma = 33,3% (2/6)

Plust: Loving U So True: No trauma = 66,6% (2/3)

Romance MD: Always on Call: No trauma = 16,6% (1/6)

Tokyo Love Hustle: No trauma = 0% (0/2)

Besides the fact that we don't have information about Ryoga yet, these are still not accurate because Kuranosuke theoretically falls into the "No family trauma" category, even if this man has trauma regarding his family and his entire personality can be explained by his family's behavior towards him.

Even the story with the "happiest" families (Plust with 66,6%) isn't close to MCs' 80%.

I want MCs with traumas who went through something and overcame it. And if Voltage Inc likes to make it hard from the beginning, using their families, then there it be. I don't want men characters who went through hell and back to come to MC so that she could fix them. I want MC to have her struggles that don't involve her man. Women's lives don't revolve around their men. They can have struggles outside their relationship.

Don't get me wrong, I understand that it is important to support your partner and everything. I like how the LIs have character development. But if you look at these games, MCs' lives seem so good and careless before meeting their SO. Their problems begin after men appear in their lives. They go through problems that aren't as serious as their partners, while the men save the day and are named heroes.

The family thing is only ONE aspect of the traumas that Voltage gives to MEN in their stories. There are so many struggles that a woman can go through: toxic exes, physically present but morally absent parents (especially fathers), high expectations, double standards, and sexual harassment.

I have had a pretty normal life compared to Voltage Inc men's. But I still can't identify myself with the MCs in here. I'm only 21, and I have seen more sh*t than the MC from "Her Love in the Force" when she entered the Academy. It makes me uncomfortable when I play for a plant from a greenhouse whose strongest personality trait at 23+ is naivety.

I want to live in a world with parents that love me nonetheless, there's no depression, sexual harassment, toxic relationships, messy breakups, divorces, bad relationships with siblings, mental illnesses, double standards, or high expectations. But it's not possible right now, and I want to see problems depicted in fiction to know that I am not alone.

I want to see a LI who goes out of his way to help MC with her problems, at least sometimes. I don't live on this earth to save men from themselves. I also want to have support to overcome my problems.

The Captain’s Proposal

I recently had the privilege of being able to work on a collaboration with the superbly talented artist, @neerons! We teamed up to feature Hyogo Kaga from Her Love in the Force and share our take on a future au in which he proposes to his MC. Please don’t repost anywhere else! Fandom: Her Love in the Force (Voltage) Pairing: Hyogo Kaga x MC(Female) Rating: Slight NSFW to be safe rather than sorry? The story is a tad suggestive and has some implications, but there’s nothing extremely explicit.

A swift breeze of cool air glided along MC’s skin, jolting her awake from the depths of her slumber. The palms of her hands traced along the outline of goosebumps newly formed on her arms and she shivered when once again the chill brushed against her bare skin. MC was still naked from the sensuous lovemaking session earlier, where she had lost count of the numerous times she succumbed to the throes of Hyogo’s passions.

Hyogo’s performance never fell short of being vigorous, but tonight he was different-tonight his movements were hasty, frantic, and even at times desperate. In all her years to come, the look on Hyogo’s face when he ran into the infirmary after receiving the news she was injured was one she would never be able to disregard. Despite the minority of her injury, Hyogo whisked her away from building Public Safety resided in and escorted her back to his residence.

Not a single word was spoken between them; Hyogo instead pawed away at her clothing, shedding MC free until she was fully nude. The only audible sounds were the sensuous moans as Hyogo’s tongue teased her nipples. They danced around his apartment only to eventually find themselves in his bedroom. By this point, the details were fuzzy since MC was lost in delightful state of ecstasy, but she did recall how her core burned and ached in a luscious duress that longed for more of his masterful touches. Her face flushed at the vivid recollection of her captain’s feverish lips grazing the curves of her body; bestrewn in the heat of MC’s fever, lapping away at the sensitive bud of flesh when his head dipped…..

Snap out of it, MC scolded herself. Now was not the time to be reminiscing over her lascivious affair with Hyogo….Speaking of Hyogo, where was he? Glancing over to the other side of the bed they shared, MC was baffled to discover that her other partner had vanished sometime during the night after she had fallen asleep. She was about to endeavor on a search for her man, when Hyogo’s stern words barked into the room as rejoined her with his entrance.

“Where do you think you’re scampering off to, you moron?”

A flood of relief rushed through MC as the familiar weight of Hyogo sent her spiraling back down onto the mattress.

“Don’t ever worry me like that again,” Hyogo huffed. “I didn’t give you permission to die yet. You’ve got a lot of nerve upsetting your master. Looks like some training is in order to remind you who you belong to.”

“But Hyogo, it was only a papercut-!”

MC’s protest was silenced when Hyogo climbed on top of her and stole her words with a lingering kiss. Her arms instinctively were drawn to his neck, pulling him closer to deepen their angle. Hyogo tenderly indulged her desires before withdrawing to reach for something in the drawer of the nightstand. She reached out for him initially, but gasped when she caught a glimmer of the black ring box.

Could that be…it couldn’t be, could it?

MC’s breath hitched when he opened the box to reveal a shiny ring. Using his teeth, Hyogo latched onto the ring and inched closer to her. The warmth radiating from Hyogo’s person simultaneously to the rhythmic drumming of his heart thumping, echoed loudly enough for MC to hear. She was left enveloped in a sense of reassuring security. Those tranquil thoughts were interrupted when Hyogo’s lips suddenly pressed a metallic object against the tip of one of her fingers.

“There, now your finger has its very own collar,” Hyogo boasted. “Stay with me….you will stay with me forever, right?”

Unrecognizable to just about anyone else, MC noticed the faint wrinkle creasing above his brow. His eyes almost seemed to be pleading with her, urging her to utter that one measly little word that would grace him with the consent he was seeking. Fortunately, there was never any other answer she could provide him except for that one measly little word.

“YES! YES, TIMES ONE THOUSAND! YES, YES YES YES Y-OUCH! Hyogo, not the iron claw!”

“Shut up! Are you trying to make me deaf or something?” Hyogo retorted back, sneaking a peek at the ring that was now nested on her ring finger.

His lips curled upward into a slight smile, and the tension secretly released from his body upon hearing her answer. Not that Hyogo ever had any cause for concern about what her answer maybe or anything. The reassurance was simply a bonus. Entwining his fingers around MC’s, he lifted her hand up and placed an uncharacteristic princely kiss on her ring.

“Mine. My woman,” Hyogo mumbled, embarrassed and attempting to hide the blush painted onto his cheeks that betrayed him. “You’re mine now. Stick with me, and I’ll give you the greatest reward you could ever ask for.”

MC didn’t bother to ask what that reward was, nor did she honestly really care. All that mattered was that now Hyogo was hers and she was his, forever and ever. That mere thought alone was enough to grant any wish she would ever make upon a star.

Their limbs, their lips, and their hearts were entangled as they vowed to spend the rest of the night leading into the day consummating their promises for their happily ever after together.

5 Otome Men I Adore

Thank you so much @pseudofaux and @pickle-scribbles for tagging me! I had actually wanted to do something like this recently so it was perfect timing! (I had made something similar years ago but that was pre-LOVE365 and I’ve played so many otome games since then so my list needed major updating!) But picking 5 was so hard!!! I actually got to the first 4 easily but it was really hard picking the last one.

I started laughing while making this because it CLEARLY SHOWS what type of person I am... hahahahahaa 😅😅😅 If you read this let me know what you think of my list b/c I’m still laughing at myself! 😂 I know fully well many people will NOT agree with me on this but they are MY preferences so here we go!

1. Hiroki Eniwa (My Last First Kiss)

Hirooooo ❤ I miss him so much! He was the first otome man I got OBSESSED with. I desperately wanted MC to finally get her man! It hurt (so well) every time he rejected her and broke up with her, which he does again and again and again throughout the series T_T. Hiroki is really special in my heart because he’s the one who first made me aware of how masochistic I am 🤣. I seriously had no idea until I kept being hurt by Hiroki but not understanding why I like him so much! Mr. Eniwa, you’re so cruel, but you know that already eh?

2. Azusa Kuze (Shall We Date? Wizardess Heart+)

I seriously L.O.V.E. Azusa (and I know like 90% of the WH fandom will disagree with my sentiments 🤣). Oof, MC got banged against the tree so many times in his route and... um... *SPOILERS?!* died... many times by his hands... but I just really, really wanted to save this bad boy! (Oh, I meant banged like shoved and rough-handled, not shagged btw XD... unfortunately). I mean just LOOK at his face! How can you not fall for this beautiful bastard XD. Also, his route is THE BEST otome route (ending) I’ve ever read!!! Everything wraps up SO nicely and it is such an intense route! It is also the second otome story which made me legit CRY hot tears. I was SOBBING towards the end! (The first time I cried was from reading Kento from “A World Without You” so that doesn’t count XD. THIS route unexpectedly punched me in the feels!)

3. Hyogo Kaga (Her Love in the Force)

Oh Kaga, Kaga, Kaga... yes yes, you are my master and I am your dog. I have never heard so many creative words to describe me before he showed up in my life: trashbag, dimwit, moron... the list would be far too long. He dishes out punishments and scowls like there’s no tomorrow but he’s really good at his job! He’s also a master of kabebon... and boundless energy in bed. One of the reasons HLITF is my favorite title from LOVE365 is because of this man. I mean, it is a GREAT title and all the men are amazing but... but... Hyogo Kaga.

4. Ota Kisaki (Kissed by the Baddest Bidder)

Koro is me and I am Koro. *woof* I never realized I liked being treated like a dog until Ota rolled around. He’s extremely mischievous yet sweet?! Such a lovable BRAT. Whenever he sticks his tongue out, I die. I get frequent “I wanna read Ota!” moments so this man has such a big piece of my heart.

5. Yakumo Koizumi (Ayakashi: Romance Reborn)

Is there anyone who does not know how much I love this professor?! I wonder if Yakumo is more obsessed with me or I am with him?! At this point, I’m not even sure. I liked him as soon as I laid my eyes upon him but guess my surprise when I found out he is a yandere?!?! HECK YES. Lock me uppppppppp. Never let me escape. I love the gentle air surrounding him that is clearly hiding something...

Chapter 23: All The Help She’d Get

Mia’s & Eisuke’s World “I think this is a mistake.” Mia stares at the reflection of Eisuke as his back is facing her.

“I rarely make any mistake.” He says coldly, “And your opinion isn’t required on this matter.”

It never is! Mia internally screams her remarks, no one ever values her opinion, they never bother asking because her thoughts don’t matter. She has no say- not in the matter of getting caged and sold in a black market auction, or taking her time to digest the shock and confusion before choosing her NEW OWNER and most definitely never has the choice of being involved in so many troubles.

She hasn’t asked for any of it, she always bites her lips and accepts her fate because she believes everything happens for a reason and each painful experience is just as precious as the rest. Being an unexpected highlight of that auction has miraculously led her to Eisuke, the one man who’s misunderstood by many yet she sees right through him at critical times.

“Let the others find him!” She clings to him from behind, begging him not to go because this is one of those times. Something is not right and if she’d feel this is a trap, so does Eisuke.

His hands rest on hers, squeezing them for a few seconds before pulling them away. “He’s my father.”

“You don’t even know if he will be there or if they have actual information on him.”

“Yes, they do.” His hands back on his tie while his eyes stay on her. “I need to know the truth. He’s my father. Aren’t you the one who goes on all the time about how important family is?”

“I am your family, Eisuke. And I’m your…….” Her argument trails off, who is she to him? His woman, his girlfriend, his fiancée? They haven’t exactly put a tag on it and Eisuke hasn’t even once mentioned about their future, does he intend to make her Mrs. Ichinomiya or she’ll see someone else takes her place over some business deals while Eisuke makes her stay? It is very possible, Mia knows that deep in her heart, she simply chooses not to think about it. But right now, she’s not exactly convincing.

“He’s my family.” He clears his throat then draws a long, shaky breath. “I deserve to know the truth.”

“But this could get you killed, Eisuke. Just listen to me for once, please!” Her plea makes no difference, as expected. She has lost again, she could never win against him. Not with her concern, morals and certainly not with her love. “I’m your family too.” She murmurs once again, mostly to herself.

All these years of care, tolerance, and understanding, persuading herself that he always has a good reason for whatever he does because the ends justify his means. With that, the bathroom door closes behind her. She needs some space, anywhere free from Eisuke.

“I’ll see you at the party,” he stands by the door frame, “though I prefer to show up together."

Mia sighs, nearly laughing at herself. This is his way of telling her that he’s being understanding, he has changed his preferences for her mood swing.

Standing in front of the mirror with her hands gripping onto the marble sink, she thinks hard. What can she do to stop him? She pulls her hair back into a high ponytail then holds an eye makeup pen up close to her lash line. Who would help her to make it happen? She presses her finger on the outside corner of her eyelid and draws a thin line. Next, she picks up a makeup brush and swirls it in a small container of blushes before dabbing it onto her cheeks. What is Eisuke most afraid of? Picking up a lipstick she carefully applies a deep, glossy red, one that matches her dress perfectly. Eisuke does like her to stand out regardless of the efforts she has spent on staying away from spotlights. It’s simply not possible, not when she’s with Eisuke Ichinomiya.

That’s it!

An idea strike, a brilliant one she would think but perhaps not to others or at least it could only be brilliant with their help. She needs to be careful with her choice of help though, someone who has the knowledge to make it happen and the ability to keep it under everyone’s radar.

"Why can’t you be a supportive sister like you should for once?!”

The room is left with dead silence again, honestly, you hate Eisuke’s suite so much! Glaring at your twins with your fists clenched, you don’t even know where to begin. With so much going on and now being accused of a lousy sister really should be the least of your worry. You exhale deeply and huff out in frustration, “Soryu hasn’t waked up yet.” Eying Luke on the side, he nods as confirmation. “I need to find the shooter."

"And I need to stop Eisuke from dying.”

You have to bite your tongue before slipping out something you’d regret. Mia worries a lot and normally you wouldn’t blame her, with the deals and underground businesses of Eisuke’s, she would be insane not to think so. But, death? When Soryu is the actual one lying in bed, the only truth you want to tell your sister is to stop being dramatic but her teary eyes meet yours, whispering out a request you couldn’t ignore. “Please, help me.”

Whatever reasons Mia has, she has persuaded Luke to take part and now you are her only hope.

“Fine,” you mutter, “just text me the essentials, skip me for the planning.” You quickly add then excuse yourself for a conversation you have neither the time nor the energy to engage.

You still need to meet Goto for another dinner party, just how many more of these damn parties do you have to attend before anyone of you are even close to finding who the heck is manipulating this whole orchestra!?

‘Choose Sides’ Part Eight - Want Me Now Or Can It Wait?

In the afterglow, Miho laid in Baba’s arms, a delicious, deep muscle pain seething all throughout her body. Lazily he stroked her hair, his eyes closed and a peaceful, a content smile on his lips, but Miho stared up at the roof.

It certainly wasn’t that she was dissatisfied with the sex – yet again Baba had delivered – but in the midst of it all, teeth and nails, sweat and lecherous moaning, her mind had wandered to the very place that had prompted her demands in the first place.

“Fuuuck,” she sighed softly and sat up, shaking her head.

“You wanna talk about it?” he offered, a warm palm touching lightly against the small of her back.

His eyes wandered up to the wound dressing on her shoulder, and though he hadn’t noticed it bothering her at all earlier, that side of her body had a slight slump now.

“Not really,” she admitted, sliding her feet to the floor. “I should go.”

“I don’t mind being the outlet for your sexual frustration, Miho,” he said, rolling over and propping his cheek on his hand, “but believe it or not, I can see more than your perfect breasts and gorgeous skin…”

Miho shifted her weight forward, intent on rising from the bed, but Baba caught her wrist and pulled her back against his stomach.

“What happened to your shoulder?” he asked, moving and snaking his other arm across her chest, but she didn’t seem particularly pleased by his questions.

“What’s with the inquisition?” she scowled, peeling his arm away and standing.

Her body was still patterned with the faint story of their romp, and the defensiveness of her response to his genuine probe made him worry all the more.

“This isn’t what we do, Baba,” she told him curtly. “We fuck, cum, and leave, that’s the arrangement, don’t mess with it now.”

“I like our arrangement, don’t get me wrong,” he responded, watching her search for her clothing, “but I can still give a damn you know?”

“I’m taking a shower,” she huffed, abandoning the hunt for garments that may not even have been wearable anyway, and disappearing into the spacious, marble tiled bathroom.

Pointedly she avoided looking in the mirror and jerked the shower taps to a suitable place, before plunging beneath the wide, lukewarm stream.

But the steady rush of water plastering dark strands of hair to her face, neck and shoulders couldn’t drown out the truth she felt stirring again in the pit of her stomach. For just a very short time she’d been able to block out what had been gnawing at her; but even as Baba’s marks on her skin began to fade, she knew she hadn’t actually fixed anything.

“Hey,” Baba’s voice intruded through the haze.

I don’t want to hear it, don’t want to hear it.

Miho’s head remained drooped, hair forming a curtain that obscured her face until large, gentle hands bumped her back against the cold tiles and lifted her chin.

“Did someone hurt you, Miho?” he grimaced, smoothing her hair back.

And Miho just hoped he couldn’t tell tears from shower spray.

“Because if someone hurt you…”

“No,” she managed thickly, still unable to make eye contact. “No, it was a work accident.”

“I mean it,” he insisted, thumbs swiping tender arcs across each cheek in unison. “If someone has hurt you then I’ll…”

“Really,” she assured, but it was a flimsy sound she could only reinforce by looking at him.

Sadly, the expression she found - concern so genuine it cut - was too much, and a sob had vaulted past her best intentions before she could suck it back down.

“It’s hard to forget we feel pain when you look at me like that,” he told her softly, drawing her against him and wrapping her up, fingers lightly kneading the base of her neck as she wept against him.

They had met each other in a bar a couple of years ago. Miho hadn’t ever been the type for one night stands – her husband had been her high school sweetheart – but a mixture of alcohol and loneliness had led her to that same luxurious love hotel suite. They agreed their tryst was worth repeating, and were both clear that their relationship was no more than sex to fill in the gaps where other human interactions failed to satisfy.

He knew her as Miho. She knew him as Baba.

Beyond that they knew no more about each other’s backgrounds, no work history, no interests, hobbies or talents beyond the amazing physical intimacy they shared.

In that moment, however, Miho allowed herself to be weak – and though she did not divulge the details of her angst, she showed him more of herself than ever.

He’d broken the agreement first, he had asked questions, but he asked no more. Instead, he smoothed over her shoulder blades and settled his hands on her hips before nudging Miho’s head from his shoulder with his cheek.

In her face he searched for no more answers, just for a way he could soothe whatever it was that had driven her to that point; he couldn’t deny his desire to pull her back from whatever abyss she was staring into.

Gentle, sincere brown eyes enveloped her in a sense of safety, where the aggressive dig of teeth and nails was forgotten, and Miho found the binding clench of her chest relax a little.

“Good girl,” he smiled, kissing her so very tenderly, holding her so carefully she was a delicate, fragile, precious doll of porcelain that might crack if he now handled her too roughly.

There in the quiet miasma, the shower’s fountain sought to wind serpentine ribbons between the slow, unhurried movement of their joining bodies, and finally, Miho stopped crying.

Miho had never felt that leaving Pasha was in any way a ‘walk of shame’, and this time was no different.

It wasn’t the same though.

Baba lingered, in her mind, against her lips, against her skin, when in all other instances the disconnect had been easy and instantaneous. It troubled her all the way to the academy, until she encountered Shinonome on her way to the main instructor’s room.

“Hmm,” he mused, appraising her openly.

She wanted to keep walking, but being rude wasn’t really her default position.

“Good morning Instructor Shinonome,” she said politely, inclining her head.

“For you it would seem so,” he noted slyly, then narrowed his eyes at her. “Is Hyogo still breathing?”

This caused Miho to flinch, and her stomach did a flip-flop, but this was work now, and the last thing she wanted was for Shinonome of all people to think he could get to her.

“You know Instructor,” she smiled thinly, tilting her head and studying him in the same way he’d been analysing her. “You always seem so incredibly interested in Kaga’s sex life. You’re a big boy you should just tell him how you really feel.”

If he had a comeback for that, Miho didn’t wait around for it, and with a satisfied, and somewhat proud smirk on her lips, she continued to the office, only to find Chief Namba lying in wait.

“Good, we need to talk,” he declared without even so much as a good morning.

“Good morning Instructor Goto, Instructor Ishigami,” Miho greeted cheerfully, ignoring Namba until her message to him was clear.

“Yes, sorry, good morning,” he muttered, then stepped to his office door and opened it for her.

When they were entrenched in privacy and both seated, Namba looked at Miho plainly in silence.

Miho clicked her tongue.

“Whatever it is you think I’ve done…” she began, but Namba held up his hands.

“It’s not what I think you’ve done, but what I know you’ve done,” he clarified, then let out a deep sigh as he leaned back in his chair. “You do know how rare it is for foreigners to be accepted into the Japanese police force right? Even ones with Japanese citizenship?”

“Ah, that,” she nodded slowly and gave a shrug. “Rhetorical question right back at you, Chief. Surely you don’t think I made the request for the Prime Minister’s support without doing any research at all?”

“Of course you researched it,” Namba grunted, “but really? Assuming the higher-ups are concerned enough with what Prime Minister Hiraizumi thinks and wants, and assuming you can make the minimum entry requirements, moving straight into Public Safety is more than a big ask.”

“I know that,” she affirmed, “and I’m prepared to do whatever it takes to make it work. You want me to take the entrance exam tomorrow? I’ll do it, and I’ll ace it. You want me to successfully complete and make the grade on every piece of assessment our cadets do? Done.”

“Somehow you have this knack for making very complicated things seem so simple,” he pointed out, but his disgruntled tone was hardly serious. “Aside from your recent brush with death, do you even have any experience with firearms?”

“Nope,” she admitted honestly. “But I am a quick learner, and there are plenty of people here who can give me the pointers I need. I even heard you’re not a bad shot.”

“Not bad?” he guffawed.

“When you wear your glasses,” she smirked, and Namba feigned injury.

“Haaa,” he exhaled, leaning forward and staring at her seriously. “Just, just answer me this – is this what you want, for you and no one else?”

“Who else would it be for?” she frowned, but she knew exactly what he was getting at, which was emphasised when Namba’s brows drew further downward. “It’s not for him,” she declared soberly. “He’s dead, and I’m alive, and I want to make a difference in the world. Here I am surrounded by these amazing people who put themselves in harm’s way for the good of the masses, thanklessly, and I’m just a nobody teaching verb tense – I need to do more.”

“And you’re sure you want in to Public Safety?” he pressed. “You already have a pretty decent relationship with the Special Investigations 2nd Unit.”

“I’m sure,” Miho responded, her eyes darting to the window, and Namba then knew there was a story there he wasn’t privy to. “So, will you endorse me?”

“You know it’s career suicide for me if you screw up?” he indicated, but his answer to her was all over his body language.

“I won’t screw up,” she announced confidently. “I’ve plenty of voluntary support – I can study and do my job at the same time.”

“And you know the other instructors would officially be your superiors then,” he added, and Miho again nodded.

“That’s the way things are,” she shrugged. “Starting at the bottom makes achieving results that much more rewarding.”

“If you want my opinion, you’re insane,” Namba huffed, but it was good natured. “Don’t come crying to me when…”

“Thank you, Sir,” she grinned, getting to her feet and saluting as she had seen others do.

“Yeah well, no promises okay?” he grumbled. “I’m not the one making the ultimate decision.”

“Your support means a lot to me,” she told him frankly. “Really… it’s not like I have all that many close friends so, I have to cherish the ones I have.”

At that Namba might, might, have blushed just a little.

“Okay, okay you’re dismissed,” he muttered, then stopped her before she could leave. “Oh, that request you put in for an aide? I approved it and notified Chiba Daisuke on your behalf. To say he was thrilled would be a bit of an understatement.”

“What can I say? I’m just an inspiring teacher,” she quipped.

“No doubt you are,” he agreed, and Miho knew there was a ‘but’ coming, “but, in a testosterone filled environment, a woman, however capable, still needs to be careful.”

“I appreciate your concern, Chief,” she replied. “I’ve got it under control.”

“If you say so,” he sighed, but he was smiling as he let her go.

With somewhat of a spring in her step, she left Namba’s office to find only Goto in the outer room. Then an idea stuck her.

“Um, Instructor Goto?” she probed quietly, just to see if he would even look up.

“You know, it feels a little strange you calling me ‘Instructor’ like the students,” he said, but his lips were graced by a placid smile. “Why don’t you just call me Goto?”

“Thank you,” she beamed, bowing. “Actually, Goto, I was hoping I could ask for a favour?”

“If it’s within my power, of course,” he responded, giving her his fullest attention.

“I was wondering if you could provide me with some firearm’s handling instruction?”

The moment that last part was spoken, there was a choking, gasping, strangled cat noise from behind Miho, and there she found Narita.

Perfect, fucking, timing.

“Out of the question!” he roared, his face a bright red and ridiculous tangle of outrage and bewilderment. “You are a civilian and…”

“I’m aware of Japanese firearm laws, thank you Instructor Narita,” Miho interrupted evenly. “I’ll be sure to obtain special, official permission before loading my gun.”

“I could not object more strongly,” he blustered, just as Miho’s phone rang.

“Excuse me instructors,” she muttered, but only made eye contact with Goto before she slipped into her office to answer.

“Kirisawa,” she greeted when she answered the call. “What’ up?”

“You sound awfully chirpy,” Kirisawa’s carefree voice responded from down the line. “Did something good happen?”

“Not exactly,” Miho chuckled. “Just winding up a dinosaur.”

“I’m not even going to ask,” he laughed. “I have some work for you if you can fit it in.”

“Come on, you know I’m always going to make time for my favourite Misfits,” she teased. “You want me now or can it wait?”

And the narrator smirked at her readers, because just as Miho began that sentence, Kaga poked his head unceremoniously into her office.

For a few seconds – silence.

“Your lap-dog is here,” Kaga announced, and then disappeared as suddenly as he had arrived.

“Fujiwara, you have a lap-dog?” Kirisawa questioned, far too much interest in his tone.

“Instructor’s aide,” Miho clarified. “So now or later?”

“Now, unless you want to make it more difficult for us to keep this dirt-bag rapist off the streets,” he replied.

“Enough said,” she exhaled, still glaring at the door, Kaga’s shape burned into it. “I’ll be right over.”

Miho hung up and cracked her neck, sitting for a moment before gathering what she’d need to take to Kirisawa’s MPD precinct. At the door, she paused to steel herself against whatever comments Kaga might fire at her when she emerged, but when she did, she found only Goto and Chiba.

“Ahh, I have classes soon so…” he began, but Miho cut him off.

“The other instructor’s take their aides out on educational excursions, so I don’t see why I can’t,” she shrugged. “If you think you’ll be able to catch up on your…”

“Absolutely,” Chiba ejected.

“Okay, let’s get a move on then,” she encouraged.

Miho then allowed Chiba’s unrestrained enthusiasm to lift her mood, and she cast the last couple of days from her mind.

Some of yo may remember my try to write "Pregnancy series" for Irresistible Mistakes. Unfortunately, I was stuck on the first part for a lot of time already. So, as some of you probably guessed, I won't continue it. However, as some of you probably observed, my specialty is domestic bliss and family fics. Moreover, I tend to write approximately in the same universe. So, I'll most probably take down the Pregnancy Series and little by little write single standing headcanons, shorts, and scenarios that will take you through all the stages of making kids. Also, it won't be only for Irresistible Mistakes alone, but for the other games I write about too: Her Love in the Force, Oops! I Said Yes?, Romance MD: Always on Call, and Tokyo Love Hustle. So, if you have requests, feel free to ask.

Another reason I want to get rid of the pregnancy series is that I strongly believe that some characters don't fit in the structures of the series. Like, I headcanon, even that the canon dismissed it, that MC will get pregnant before she marries Toshiaki.
