One of my favorite things about Leo’s portals is the fact that they’re tangible.
He can throw those like frisbees and hit people with them like?? The boys’ abilities are so fun and magical and even sci-fi-esque but this aspect of Leo’s portals are so distinctly a Looney Tunes flavor of cartoon-y that I absolutely adore.
And sure this aspect of the portals can be used for fighting, but moreover the sheer amount of visual gags this does and can create is infinite.

(unleashes the powerful obsession i've been (poorly) hiding away since i was 13) How about that ClanGen game, am I right?
Little fullbodies on the tan bg in the last sketchpage are in game sprites not drawn by me.
They are..... so important to me. ShrikeClan, SharkClan, DecayClan and ChimeClan. Little guys. There are too many to tell you about (or remember....) but
TulipLotus is my saddest little meow meow. Had one billion children with Heatherpool and outlived them all. Put up with SO MUCH but hard carried the clan.
Shoutout to SpireRiver as the runner up, I got so attached to him, a former leader who ran away from his job to join the clan, saved DayWhisker's life the same day he got there, and then 5 moons later got taken by two-legs and spent the rest of his days trying to make it back.
here's a link to some lineart I made if you want to use it
This too

one thing that especially irks me about cullen's so-called redemption is the attempts to redeem him through cole's words.
templars' abuses affected cole so badly it damaged his connection to the fade and his own nature. he was a spirit of compassion and witnessing what was happening in white spire turned him into a killer. he murdered lord seeker lambert in cold blood for what he did and most of the time he doesn't regret it — and then he just. drops the "he's not like the other girls" lines about cullen.
and this is such a lazy and annoying move. another thing that is established about cole is that you particularly can't lie to him — about your real feelings and intentions at least. whatever he states about other characters must be true and it is often used as a tool to deepen the characterizations of the main cast and in cullen's case it is just. blatant apologism. there's literally a banter where cole talks about atrocities commited by the templars and then he adds "oh no but cassandra and cullen aren't like that" and never elaborates. the game itself doesn't elaborate either.
like please don't tell me that the spirit who was shaken by knowledge that an innocent boy can die from starving because his jailors simply forgot about him would look in the eyes of a person who used to be meredith fucking stannard's right hand and still thinks that her methods were just a little too harsh but necessary and justified and say yeah. this guy is such a friend of mages. if only there were more templars like him

You know sometimes I think that the reason I stopped being on the sokai ship online is that the reasons why I think the ship is nice are so separate and different from how I see most people interpreting the characters and wanting the ship to be that it just loses all appeal to me.

I need to reread the comics again to have specific arguments/evidence for this, but like
I feel a bit like I could've been sympathetic to the way other Cybertronian colonies view Cybertron, if it weren't for the fact that at least several of them (as in, ones that get notable dialogue/screen time) are so low-key self-righteous?
Like, idk... there's a lot of criticism of Cybertronians because they're so "warlike" and how their obsession with violence and vengeance is just dragging the whole galaxy down with them, but uh. The Autobot-Decepticon war was basically a product of societal ills bubbling over for like 6 million years beforehand and then finally boiling over into a 4 million year war that lasted as long as it did because the people involved had immense social/psychological trauma from being "raised" in an oppressive society.
So when the colonists come in being all 'omg you people are so violent and uncivilized why don't you just like, stop fighting' it kind of pissed me off a little bit as a reader/person like. Idk the colonists really came into this society of people full of massive amounts of trauma where even before the war society was super oppressive and no one has any experience of living "normal" lives unaffected by violence and bigotry. And the colonists were like "ummm wow why don't you guys just??? stop fighting???." Like idk it wasn't EVERY SINGLE MOMENT, in fact I think that when it was played for laughs it's quite a funny "fridge horror" type element. It was just annoying because like.... IDK???? It's just really annoying to watch a bunch of people who lived relatively sheltered lives on their own planets come to a different planet full of traumatized people and be like "omg why are you people so fucked up" IDK BRO MAYBE BECAUSE THEIR SOCIETY WAS OPPRESSIVE AND THEY LIVED THROUGH A LIFELONG WAR???
It also doesn't help that the colonies were literally founded based on imperialism and conquest so like, it's fucking rich to hear colonists scolding Cybertronians for their violence ruining the whole galaxy while literally sitting on planets that their Primes colonized from others. The hypocrisy of this is briefly mentioned in Unicron (literally the FINAL STORY OF THE SERIES) but like, that's basically the only time Cybertronian characters are given a reprieve of sympathy from other characters in universe and it's so tiresome.
I've talked to other people who didn't like the colonists and thought they basically (narratively speaking) existed just to shit on the existing characters, and it's actually really easy for me to sympathize with/outright agree with that assessment of the story considering how much of exRID/OP seems to be preoccupied with "Cybertron/the Primes/Optimus sucks" with very few reprieves for anything positive happening and even fewer chances for characters to get to explain themselves and experience a little bit of justice? Like, as the audience, it's just very frustrating to see the characters you spent hundreds of issues keeping up with get shit on by a bunch of "literally-who"s and then not really get a chance to ever defend themselves, either by literally defending themselves in conversation or having some sort of narrative thing happening that vindicates them at least symbolically

do you have any favorite fanfics involving grovyle, dusknoir, & celebi, either shipping or platonic? 🥺
In fact, I have some! Perhaps if I hadn't found them I'd be a bit more sane now, alas...
So the next three are all from the same author and are my favourites from PMD (although I havent looked for Grovyle/Celebi or Dusknoir/Celebi alone, idk if someone has some recommendations for those). Still, tho, here is what I've read.
One more adventure
https://archiveofourown.org/works/48325621
Platonic future trio (tho the author has stated that they can see the shipping happening lol). I like this one especially bc of the Celebi appreciation, she's the POV and has added lore abour her crucial role in keeping the dark future stable and helping to fix it. Also great dusknoir and grovyle characterization, but that's a given with this author.
The next three are actaeon (Dusknoir/Grovyle), so Celebi barely appears or has relevance. It's a shame, but they're still
some of my fav fics.
Stars that shine https://archiveofourown.org/works/33070633
ABSOLUTE FAV. IVE REREAD IT LIKE 20 TIMES. ONE OF THE MOMENTS TOWARDS THE END LIVES IN MY HEAD RENT FREE. Btw you can ignore the tags, its not as grim as it sounds lol. No spoilers but this fic is the fic ever. Also Dusknoir is so in love in this one it hurts lmao. I sketched some fanart for this fic i need to clean it and post it.......this fic deserves it.....
Together we'll be heroes
https://archiveofourown.org/works/37172176/chapters/92737780
This one is also actaeon, but theres also focus on Hero/Partner. It's a retelling of EoS through snippets of Hero, Partner, Grovyle and Dusknoir's PoV, and is really well narrated. While i was put off at first by the idea of a retelling of the game, I was pleasantly surprised by how entertaining the story and characters are! ts unfinished, and unfortunately ends before the story progresses much beyond the plot of the game, however the part of the story that is set in post game is precious. and it also has my favourite thing ever, that is, future trio not knowing what the hell to do with their lives now that theyre not dead.
It's not unfounded
https://archiveofourown.org/works/28630209
This one is not from the same author, but it's also short and sweet, and it even inspired one of my posta about future trio (the one with grovyle's "tail" wagging xd). Maybe it can get a bit too "fanfic-y" at times, but I still enjoyed it a lot. Its basically actaeon hurt/comfort and discussing what their future is gonna be now the the world is back on track and on its way to healing.
So yeah those are the ones I've read and enjoyed lmao. If you've looked for pmd fics before you might have already read them, since there arent a lot of fics and these are all well tagged and all.

It's the Beowulf Dragon, isn't it?
Tolkien writes (something to the effect of): for a man who began his career with Grendel, what less than a dragon is worthy to end it.
So Moriarty is Holmes' Dragon. Conan Doyle took care to give Holmes an enemy worthy of being defeated by. And he still gives Holmes the win. Holmes sets out his win conditions right at the beginning and then achieves them. The conclusion is forgone, but the details matter. This victory matters to him, even if it's news to us.
Yes!!
He knew that Holmes required a dragon, you're right. And he GAVE him one. It would have been so much easier to just be like "sometimes criminals get lucky, and everyone's number has to come up sometime :/" and have it Just Happen somehow, rather than to give him a fitting monster to slay. But Doyle saw he ought to have a dragon and he delivered on that.
And ALSO yes, the way Holmes keeps saying "If I could defeat him that would be enough to end my career on" both underscores the seriousness of Moriarty's evil and establishes that Reichenbach is a win for Holmes regardless of his own death.
OH. In a way, it's about agency. Holmes doesn't die because someone decided to kill him and succeeded, on a narrative level—he dies because he saw a fight worth dying to win, and he stepped up and won it. That's nice.

'the final pages of the report include a few interesting details. they note that every hero at the scene explicitely said that no work study students participated in the fight against shigaraki. our part was erased from the record. that denial is the only reference to me, kacchan and todoroki in the entire document' IM SORRY? THE VILLAINS ARE RIGHT DOWN WITH HEROES. DENYING THEIR PART WHILE THEY'RE LITERALLY BEING WHEELED TO HOSPITAL UNCONSCIOUS? WHEN THE FIGHT WOULD HAVE BEEN LOST WITHOUT THEM? WHY DID KIDS NEED TO BE ON THE BATTLEFIELD ANYWAY AND THEN AFTERWARDS WHY ARE YOU MORE CONCERNED ABOUT THE LEGALITY OF IT THAN THE PART THEY PLAYED? i hope you all die

major To The Moon series spoilers ahead!
no because the real Quincy--relative to the "real" world our Lynri came from--never actually got to see his family again
can we talk about that please like my heart BREAKS for this man and sure you can say "well like he wasn't actually real because this is the topmost stack and not reality lmbo" but like.
what IS reality?
like! the entire point of the games is to bring up the question "what is the reality we tell ourselves, at one point does reality become... not so?" and that's honestly like, other than the various other themes Kan Gao has so masterfully crafted into this series that's my favorite one because then the ethic becomes, if nothing is reality--if everything is just the reality OR fiction we tell ourselves--what does it really matter?
so if we go based off that, the real Quincy relative to IF-Lynri's timeline just. was basically pushed off to the side. and yeah, there's the version of him within the machine that we play as of course and we get to see that version of him be happy, but how can that account for the original version? did that Quincy not have feelings? did that Quincy just, not have his heart broken by the love of his life after the tragic loss of their child? did she not abandon him? from we know that did still happen, does it matter that it did, maybe not to any other version of them (or even IF-Lynri for that matter since she gets everything she wants in the end) but did it not matter to that Quincy?
and it hurts so much worse to me personally to know that, he would have never know about any of this, and he has no idea that in another timeline so to speak, he gets to be happy. and!!! this even goes back to To The Moon the game (try saying that 5 times fast) itself because!!!!
the real River and Johnny technically might have never reunited.
in fact they? probably really didn't? at least not in a way that could have ever been substantial to either of them. the "real" Johnny never actually remembered their first meeting, and the "real" River never got to feel that closure that she so desperately wanted from him.
but then it goes back to the question of if it matters, since they're happy anyway?
and this all leads to my point about all of this:
does it? does creating perfect fantasy worlds for everyone really MATTER if the real them never got to live out that fantasy world?? because sure, you can say to THEM, it does! in that brief moment before they leave this world, they can leave knowing they did all they wanted! they can leave with a (figurative) smile on their face!! right? isn't that the point?
...but then. where does it stop meaning something because EVERYTHING was made up? how can we differentiate the two anymore?
and at what point was reality just... maybe, not reality in the first place?
