*Set in a school environment & an alternate universe where Jake now attends J-High School, this includes the rest of the crew heads & Big Deal. There are no four major crews and no significant gang activity, but Jake is still renowned as Gapryong Kim's son. Sinu Han is also present.

He's Just Not That Into You (2009): "The lives of these South Koreans overlap as they navigate the complexities and pitfalls of modern relationships as both friends and lovers." — You are tangled in a midst of blind dates and relationships only to be given the best advice you have ever received by a certain man who saw you in your woe after being dumped.

*Set in an alternate universe where the original cast lead relatively normal lives away from the gang life. Johan is sort of a playboy here! His mom is not sick, and his dad is not a deadbeat who is "in America", he's now still friends with Zack Lee and Mira Kim.

W — Two Worlds Apart: In real life, Samuel Seo was just a drawing. On this day, 8 October 1967 Yamazaki Hiroaki was killed by police, and around 600 people injured in Japan during an anti-war demonstration near Haneda airport. Students demonstrating against the Vietnam war had fought riot police on a bridge, forcing them back and commandeering a police van and water cannon truck. They had been driving the truck towards the airport when a cry went up that a Kyoto University student had been killed, and fighting stopped until his body was removed, and police then used tear gas, batons and water cannon to disperse protesters, sweeping some of the bridge into the river. Despite the repression, the battle marked a turning point for the radical student movement at the time which then became increasingly militant. Day 7: The Future

Pairing: Yamazaki Sousuke x Tachibana Makoto

Makoto and Sousuke chose to hold their bachelor parties inside private bars that were adjacent to each other in the following year. Haru said that the idea was disgusting, but they proceeded anyway.

“Nagisa, I already told you that Ran and Ren were the ones pestering me to get married,” Makoto reasoned for the umpteenth time. “They can’t wait to officially have another onii-chan in the form of a brother-in-law, is what they say. I did not get married for the sole sake of trying to one-up you and Haru, or however it is you put it.”

“Nagisa, lay off the teasing already,” even Haru stepped in at this point, for which Makoto is thankful. “I know him the best. Makoto will not admit it even if what you’re saying is absolutely correct.”

“Haru! You’re supposed to side me in this!”

Nagisa snickered. “It’s true, Mako-chan. How else did you two go from idiots who can’t admit they recognised each other to fiancés who are getting married tomorrow in the span of seven months?”

Makoto signed after taking a sip of his martini. “I regret how I encouraged Kisumi to attend the party next door. Why is he so close to both Sousuke and Rin again? He would have been on my side if he was here.”

“The party next door must have been a lot less fun with all the goody-two-shoes on their side. Aren’t you glad you get to hang out with the nurses instead, my boo?” Nagisa turned to his boyfriend.

“Actually, thinking about this logically, I’ve come to the conclusion that I belong with the rest of the doctors next door,” said Rei.

“I forgot you’re a goody-two-shoes yourself, Rei-chan.”

“I mean, think about it: Haru-senpai betrayed us by being in a secret relationship with Rin-senpai that started even before ours did, meanwhile Makoto-senpai betrayed us with Sousuke-senpai by getting married before we could. As a result, we are now no longer the iconic couple of TUH!”

“Oh, cry me a river,” Makoto must have had too much to drink, but Haru glanced at him for that and for a moment he looked like he was proud.

Haru then took a sip of his water—he was the designated driver—before clearing his throat and turning to Makoto. “I’m surprised you didn’t drop the idea of adjacent bachelor parties.”

“Me too, Mako-chan used to listen to everything Haru-chan said!”

“It’s great that you no longer do. Looks like Sousuke has been a good influence,” Haru had a small smile on his face as he said this, and Makoto could tell he meant it with his whole heart.

“And a bad influence at the same time! I never thought Mako-chan would be the type to marry someone so quickly,” Nagisa added. “But I’m so glad, because it must mean that he makes you so incredibly happy.”

It made Makoto all warm and fuzzy inside knowing that his closest friends were happy for him. “Well, he and I missed out on all those years we could have after all… Our relationship has been so steady and Sousuke is a reliable presence in my life, someone I can trust everything with. So, I thought why not? I genuinely can see myself being happy in a marriage with him, even ten years down the line.”

“Awwww, that’s so cute!” Rei giggled and was the one who actually had too much to drink. “Let’s do a toast, to Makoto-senpai and his future with Sousuke-senpai! Let’s do a group hug too!”

So they raised their glasses and Rei huddled everyone together in a tight embrace after they downed their drinks. For a brief moment, Makoto was on top of the world. To love and to be loved by the most important people in his life, there was nothing more he’d ask for.

He got teary-eyed and had a blocked nose then, before their moment was interrupted by the door being thrown open.

Nitori, still clad in his uniform, rushed in while panting, “I finally finished my shift!” He then realised that the team was having a moment without him, and instead of feeling bad about walking in at a bad time, he whined, “Hey, don’t leave me out just because I got off late! I am important too for making Makoto-senpai the fake patient during Dr Yamazaki’s birthday.”

Makoto would say that they’d end up together either way thanks to Kisumi, but he chose to just pull Nitori in to join in on the group hug.

There, everybody would be satisfied with the happy ending.

My thoughts when I played Hakuōki for the first time

It’s been 2 years since I first played Hakuōki Kyoto Winds/Edo Blossoms so I thought I could share the notes I took back then. It’s mostly rankings with explanations.

Short Backstory: I only play otome I find on Steam and one day I found Hakuouki on there. I saw the time period, was reminded of the movie “Last Samurai” with Tom Cruise and immediately was like: “Oh, no, I don’t wanna play this misery fest.” But I was still interested (since there’s so few otome on Steam) and thus watched the first movie on Amazon. I don’t remember exactly what I thought of it but I must have been frustrated by how they handled Chizuru... One day, it’s the pandemic, I was stuck in my apartment and I bought KW & EB. And the rest is history…

Note: This is no debate, just my opinion, so don’t expect well-written, logical arguments for anything I wrote here. My opinions aren’t meant to offend anyone but if you don’t like Hakuōki or your favorite character(s) being critically/negatively discussed, please don’t read this or proceed with caution.

Feel free to share your first impressions of KW/EB or Hakuōki in general!

My thoughts after playing Kyoto Winds:

Love Interest Ranking:

1. Saito – perfect Kuudere! Always rational and logically-thinking.

2. Okita – child and adult at once, stubborn, teasing; I find myself in him. (I wasn’t in love with him back then and had to warm myself up toward him.)

3. Iba – perfect, but maybe TOO perfect… (I thought he would turn out to be a Yandere.)

4. Toudou – such a cute little baby!

5. Kazama – human-hater for good reasons, sadist with a soft side to him.

6. Nagakura – my broooo; his energy is contagious!

7. Hijikata – strict and soft at once.

8. Ryouma – hot, but TOO hot, too pushy, seems fake sometimes.

9. Yamazaki – powerless and seeking-to-be-useful like MC.

10. Harada – friendly sexist. (Did you know there’s a thing called “benevolent sexism”? That’s what he embodies. Yes, that’s still my opinion about him.)

11. Sannan – craycray for understandable reasons.

12. Souma – fanboy with ideals instead of a real personality.

4. Iba - I didn’t like the ending. I also didn’t like that he let Takeda drift away in the river and MC didn’t question his behavior. No matter if he was an enemy, that still was dishonorable of Iba.

8. Harada – he admires her strength but doesn’t want her to fight: imbalanced.

9. Ryouma – more sexual than romantic

11. Sannan – barely any chemistry, few moments

12. Souma – no chemistry between MC and him

My thoughts after playing Edo Blossoms:

Love Interests:

1. Okita – joker with so much passion and so much warmth… (Can you tell I had fallen in love?)

2. Sakamoto – full of life and passion, his heart in the right place, jokester, intelligent

3. Heisuke – puppy that grows up

4. Nagakura – energy, empathy/compassion for enemies, sense of responsibility for his comrades, love for freedom/independence

5. Hijikata – strict, honorable, soft, can also tease/joke

6. Iba – such a good guy

7. Souma – a boy that grows into a man, cute like a kitten, courageous and proud like a lion

8. Saito – rational and shy, strong will

9. Harada – kind and hot but believing in traditional gender roles

10. Kazama – JERK with kind side, CAN be respectful

11. Sannan – I can’t warm up to this Kuudere; he tends towards madness because he doesn’t want to be (seen as) useless.

12. Yamazaki – irrational, crazy, power-hungry many times due to his low self-esteem, walking red flag. Why should I believe that he sees MC as more than a token and blood bag? He shyly asks for his first kiss but then he immediately doesn’t care if MC wants to kiss him or if the kiss is hurting her. Furthermore, he doesn’t show much interest in MC.

Routes:

1. Okita – all these feelings… This isn’t just Sōji’s route but Yukimura’s as well.

2. Sakamoto – kinda had everything (humor, drama, emotion) and nothing that bothered me too much.

3. Hijikata – Drama, baby! Many ups and downs, moments to laugh and to cry. The moment Kazama recognizes Toshi as a demon has gravitas and his death is honorable. The Sannan-subplot makes sense, Kodo’s death is cheap and easy. I love that Okita gets another scene BUT after that he is never mentioned again!

4. Heisuke – heartbreaking how a ray of sunshine turns into a depressive pessimist… Sannan as a crazy villain is an absolute no-go! This makes him weaker in Toshi’s and his own route because his downfall doesn’t really fit his character.

5. Nagakura – because of the depressive phases and MC’s will to fight. I find it immensely astonishing that Nagakura didn’t need nor used his Fury powers.

6. Iba – because MC took over control several times and Iba respected her decisions.

7. Saito – it’s only about him… (His route frustrated me the most since I was so hyped up at the end of his route in KW...)

8. Sannan – tragic how many distrusted him and he still kept on fighting. …Wait! How come that Kaoru was useless if Kodo only wanted pureblood blood?? …More scientific stuff would have benefitted the route.

9. Harada – MC is an anxious nerve wreck. (This influenced my whole perception of the route.)

10. Souma – still too much focus on the Shinsengumi but Souma has a good character development – from boy into a man.

11. Kazama – boring, nothing happens, threats are taken care of too soon; basically Yukimura’s route just with Kazama.

12. Yamazaki – Kazama takes the final blow from MC! Plot hole/Error: Furies don’t attack MC until Yamazaki defeats Kodo.

MC (‘s personality)

Baseline: She always feels guilty for everything and is just glad to serve as a blood bag…

1. Okita – She does not feel guilty for once and isn’t the only one that cares and makes sacrifices. Plus, she fights physically two times (against Kazama and imperial soldiers, she kills one) and verbally with Kaoru and Kodo in the end.

2. Iba – She has helpful ideas several times and Iba trusts and listens to her. But she thinks Iba is too good for her… BIG NO GO: MC would have let Iba r*pe her because she was sure that this was the demon arm’s doing. This situation traumatizes her for a little while.

3. Sakamoto – intelligent, passionate and strong-willed. She is not let down by insecurity, guilt etc., isn’t wailing the whole time and she is seething with anger towards her father due to his experiments (instead of wailing and not wanting to accept the truth).

4. Nagakura – she exercises fighting and enjoys Shinpachi’s blood-sucking. However, she accepts his proposal when they kiss for the first time and she never fights…

5. Toudou – she has a rather strong will and motivates Heisuke with her optimism but she doesn’t fight or does something else…

6. Hijikata – she cries easily but can talk big, has a strong will. But she is nothing more than a housewife…

7. Saito – she is nothing more than a caring, loyal housewife and a slow-witted blood bag (doesn’t understand what he feels for her until it is spoken out loud). But hey: At least she initiates her first time – on top of him.

8. Sannan – strong-willed but even she is doubting Sannan towards the end…

9. Kazama – she isn’t afraid to speak her mind in front of him, she regulates her objectives. She doesn’t want to re-open the Yukimura clinic even though she likes to take care of others, she is not a fan of marriage, would only marry Kazama.. But in the end, she gives up everything to be with Kazama.

10. Souma – she doesn’t do anything, does not confess to Souma but at least she asks him to spend the last night together with her. She only follows Souma and waits for him – as she is his senpai, I would have expected more of her. Since the north star represents Souma’s purpose of life for him and he is MC’s north star, MC’s purpose of life is Souma…

11. Harada – zero self-confidence, zero self-worth, 1000 anxieties… Harada’s love gives her strength, she only wants a peaceful life as wife, housewife and mother. (The first part reminds me too much of my hurting and depressed teenage self, the last part is something I cannot relate to.)

12. Yamazaki – completely dependent on him, weak, low self-worth, likes to be used.

Love Stories:

1. Okita – so mutual, equal and not toxic. At the beginning, MC takes care of Soji, later he takes care of her. For the first time in his life, he wants to live for ‘selfish’ reasons and wants to spend the rest of his life with MC. Both support each other until the very end.

2. Iba – cute.

3. Sakamoto – he jokes a lot but develops feelings for MC, takes care of her and respects her wishes.

4. Heisuke – it’s more about fighting Heisuke’s problems than their relationship..

5. Saito – slow burn but only MC sacrifices herself for him, not the other way round.

6. Hijikata – takes a long time but is rather cute. He gets softer and can tease MC.

7. Souma – kitten love but development isn’t really visible. Others have to bring them together…

8. Harada – MC depends on his reassurance. It feels bad that Harada is leaving his friends behind for her even though that’s a ~romantic~ gesture.

9. Kazama – he respects her wishes and learns something new. But in the end, he is as ignorant and arrogant as in the beginning… (I HATE THIS still.)

10. Sannan – seemingly pure love: all-trusting, all-forgiving… (You should not trust someone when they don’t trust you back. You should not forgive if you never get anything back in return.)

11. Nagakura – romantic development rather sudden or primarily in the blood-sucking scenes.

12. Yamazaki – rather one-sided and toxic.

Couples I can support:

OkiChi, IbaChi, SakaChi.

Couples I can accept:

HijiChi, SaiChi, HeiChi (Somewhere along the line Heisuke got lost in his own feelings and stopped empathizing with MC. Granted, that’s how depression works, but it does not make for a good relationship. At least in his epilogue, we see him apologizing to MC for not helping reach her goal of finding her father. A glimpse of Kyoto Winds’ Heisuke.), NagaChi, SomaChi

Xuanzang Sanzang was an abandoned child floating in the river. He was brought up by Master Guangming Sanzang of Jinshan Temple, and because of this, he was discriminated against by the monks in the temple. The murder of his master dealt a huge blow to his mind, and thus he developed a withdrawn and rebellious character. Sanzang is arrogant and uninhibited, pursues freedom, and does not want to be bound by anything. He wants to find absolute strength and strength to protect his important things. The weapon he uses is the Ascension Spear, and his unique skill is "Lord of the Rings".

Sun Wukong, who always follows Sanzang closely, is a strange life form born from a stone 500 years ago. He uses a wishful stick that matches his agility as a weapon. His personality is extremely simple, his way of thinking is simple and direct, naughty and gluttonous, but when he removes the demon power control device on his forehead, he will completely lose his mind, full of desire to destroy and kill, and become an extremely dangerous person. The red-haired Sha Wujing is the child of monsters and humans, so he is hated by his stepmother. His elder brother killed his own mother in order to protect him, which made him think that he was the real murderer and deeply blamed himself. From then on, Wujing realized the pure and unrestrained form of the waves, a lustful and outspoken prodigal, but he was still a bold man who loved to fight against injustice. The weapon he uses is a crescent shovel with a chain. Although he often bickers with Wukong, he is actually very considerate of his companions.

This group of characters with full of personality quoted the names of the characters in the Chinese classic "Journey to the West", but completely subverted the original image. Although the background of the story is set in ancient times, their language and behavior are no different from modern people. Make the film full of post-modern colors. Bsd post might be a long one

It makes me so sad yet happy to see Dazai and Kyoka be happy in BSD bc I guarentee that they had their childhood like ripped from them (like kyoka was weponized by the port mafia and forced to kill 38 people because of her ability at 14 and saw her parents die and Dazai tried to commit sewerslide at 14 and then became the youngest PM executive at 16 and then watched Oda die and defected from the PM at 18 ) and so like whenever they get to do something normal I get so sad yet happy. ITS THE SAME WITH ASTUSHI GODDAMN IT AND YOSANO LIKE OL THEY ALL NEED HUGS (astushi's backstory and trauma made me nearly cry and yosano PLS SHE DIDNT DESERVE THAT BRO) I want them all to be happy but honestly I feel like kyoka and yosano will prob die, not sure about atsushi but I feel like Dazai might die in a similar way to the real Osamu Dazai also weird thing I picked up but in the beginning of the anime when Astushi saves Dazai from drowning himself, a little thing that mught be on purpose that I picked up on now is that the real life Osamu Dazai committed sewerslide with a woman named Tomie Yamazaki by drowning themselves in a river so idk if that was on purpose but yeah here you go

Evolution of Otae vs. Gintoki x Sacchan part one

gintama has 704 chapters and one of the most memorable running gags is sacchan riling otae up over ginsacchan endgame. This is a 3 part post where I trace an aspect of otae and sarutobi’s friendship that’s both hilarious and fascinating to me.

L64 Otose Snack Bar

First meeting of Otae and Sarutobi. Otae says that Sacchan’s application/omiai picture is cute. Otae, Sacchan and Catherine are all competing to be the replacement of Kagura, the show’s heroine. Sarutobi is already in love with Gintoki at this point and doesn’t suspect Otae yet of anything. Because GIntoki and Shinpachi couldn’t pick between them, both the ladies knock them out and proceed to walk into the moonlight.

It‘s the start of an interesting friendship.

L77 Infant Strife

Sarutobi immediately assumes that the child between Gintoki and Otae was their offspring. She immediately attacks Otae and calls her “not a woman anymore but a mother.” Otae retaliates by saying that Sacchan is a “one woman opera a B-movie script and that the child isn’t hers.” Otae exclaims that “no one would want to have a baby with that Loser (Gintoki)” Otae tries to get Gintoki to clear things up but finds him trying to escape. Otae throws him into a river and calls him the kid “his bastard child” and gintoki “a pig”. She also tacks on that she will stop Shinpachi from working with Gintoki (for being a dishonorable guy).

Otae invites Sarutobi to just hang out with her instead. Also I think she clear things up that the kid is not hers.

I think Sarutobi’s thought process was

“Otae wants to be the show’s heroine (from L64) --> Gin-san is bringing a kid that looks exactly like him and Otae is beside him --> Otae is also my competition for heroine --> heroine can also mean Gin-san’s woman --> Otae befriended me before but she actually wants Gin-san for herself --> to hell with you Otae, you conniving btch”

it’s a neat tie in to their last encounter XD

L98 Post-Benizakura Recuperation

Sarutobi stumbles upon one of the traps Otae set aside for Kondou. Sacchan thinks the traps are for her specifically and that Otae made them so that she will not bother GinTae.

Yamazaki then confirms to Kondou and Sacchan that Gintoki is temporarily staying in the Kodoukan dojo to heal from his injuries. Kondou complains that he can’t allow GinTae to live in one roof. Sarutobi encourages Kondou not to give up on stalking and says that even if she was happy for Gin-san fathering a kid (L77), she wont stop pursuing Gin-san either (coz she knows that otae wasnt the mom).

note: accdg to Word of God, Sarutobi starts to spy on the kodoukan dojo and otae after this

L103 Snowball fight

Sarutobi shows off her massive Gintoki snowman to Yorozuya. Gintoki is impressed by it. She demonstrates how it works by laying on the outstretched hands of the snowman. Because of her weight the arms break off causing Sachhan and her glasses fall. Blind as bat without glasses!Sacchan picks the broken arms and thrusts them accidentally at Otae who just arrived at the scene. The hands of the Gintoki snowman arms land on her chest. Otae gets pissed and her fist find Gintoki to send him flying.

Convenient for Otae to show up while Gin x Sacchan was happening lmao.

L128 Hostess Club / Shogun Introduction

Sarutobi picks the shogun stick of the shogun’s game. She immediately requests Gin-san to have sex with her. Otae smacks Sacchan with her foot because the latter was not playing by the rules.

note: in shogun/kings game you’re supposed to say “number xxx i order you to [smth smth]”, the fun in the game is that you dont know who’s holding which number. the shogun just kept getting the numbers that were ordered to do the tasks.

L138 Group Date

Kondou gets kicked by Otae to the ceiling after he showed up and objected to Gintoki’s planned Goukon. Sarutobi was lurking in the space between ceiling and roof, spying on Otae (or maybe following Shinpachi, idk)

This is the first instance we see Sarutobi stalking/spying on Otae. Because both stalkers were already aware of the Goukon, they invite themselves to the party. Gintoki kicks Kondou because he didnt want to include the stalkers in the first place.

L156 Weight Loss Arc

Sarutobi pops out of Otae’s ceiling when she overhears Kagura and Otae’s conversation. She insinuates that GIn-san’s back will break if he carries Kagura or Otae like a princess (most likely this jibe was directed at Otae again). Sacchan falls from the ceiling too because she’s overweight.

Otae: hey don’t destroy my house

--> it’s like the house is punishing sacchan for assuming about gintae again.

at the fasting dojo otae rags on sacchan to leave the dojo if she’s just gonna keep eating. Sarutobi responds by telling Otae that unlike Otae, she isn’t actually fat and in fact she’s carrying Gintoki’s baby. Otae responds by kicking her in the stomach “Congratulations you just give birth to puke.”

In infant strife arc, we remember that Sarutobi mocked Otae for “not being a woman anymore and downgrading into a mother, taking herself out of the competition.” While in Weight Loss Arc she proudly she says she’s pregnant and soon to be mother of Gintoki’s child lololol

OVERALL NOTES:

there’s a continuous back and forth of riling up between the two. It usually starts with Sarutobi insulting Otae and telling her that she’ll end up with Gintoki. Otae never responds kindly to insults and people calling her names so she retaliates at Sarutobi with violence.
