in today's episode of fate fandom history only i care about:

yuki aoi, aka the voice actor for shuten douji and okita souji, is famously in love with yamanami. ever since his introduction as an npc in gudaguda, she's really loved him a lot.

for example, on occasion she's drawn him

back to the story. when yamanami's standee was announced, while on one of fgo's official streams, she excitedly explained that she wanted to put him in the bath.

and so, when she finally got a copy of the standee, she did:

in jp fandom, especially within the shinsengumi fandom, this basically became a meme. so much so that kibadori_rue, the artist for yamanami, made fanart of this specific image:

this all culminating, of course, in yamanami's release as a full-fledged servant with his own np. and the np, as we all know, features him..

in a pool. while yes, there are definitely real life reasons to have yamanami's np be in a pool of water, many people joked that this was due to yuki aoi's bath

and now, of course - there's only one thing to do if you wanna get a copy of yamanami... have you considered throwing your phone into the bath?

(I used a Zodiac calculator to figure out the zodiac for each person based on their birthday, and pulled info about the zodiac traits from two different websites.)

Kondo Isami (9 Nov 1834)

Horse 午. Horses are cheerful, sociable, and decisive. They are also versatile and excel in many fields, but tend to get bored easily and leave things unfinished. They do not like to work for other people because they appreciate their freedom. They never let opportunities pass, although sometimes they tend to be a bit imprudent. They exhibit a vain streak and are big spenders. Horses are skillful in paying compliments, likely to get into trouble for a slip of the tongue, and quick to catch on to a trend.

Hijikata Toshizo (31 May 1835)

Sheep 未. Sheep are caring, considerate, sympathetic, and cherish friendship. They always seek out other people. They are endowed with artistic talent, and are passionate in whatever they do and believe in. They are also noble and generous. However, they can be sensitive and tend to worry unnecessarily over small matters. Sheep are keen to learn new things, always complaining, and often suffer from insomnia.

Saito Hajime (18 Feb 1844)

Wow have not checked Tumblr in 7 years. Shocking.

Mostly here because I majorly revived my obsession with Sannan Keisuke of Hakuoki fame (or infamy depending on who you ask). Since Hakuoki Kyoto Winds / Edo Blossoms came out on Steam, I have played Sannan's route exclusively because 1) it breaks my heart too much to see him villainized, and 2) it kinda makes me feel like I'm cheating on him to play other routes? Haha, I'm a dork.

I've also recently started rewatching the Shinsengumi! Taiga drama and can't help but lament how we can't use the Ochimizu to save all those tragic young men from their inevitable fates.

(Somewhat spoiler I guess? For both Hakuoki Sannan route and Shinsengumi! live action taiga drama)

Honestly, the fleeting yet impactful existence of the Shinsengumi is a fitting setting for an otome game where the love interests can become vampires instead of dying as they do in history.

One thing that rather interested me is that I found out there is a historical precedence for Sannan's arm injury that leads him to be the first member of the Shinsengumi to imbibe the Water of Life.

Before reading about it, I assumed his more widely accepted fate in history (that he broke the Shinsengumi's laws by leaving due to his moral objection to their shifting ideologies and increasingly ruthless methods, got caught in the act, and was forced to commit seppuku by Hijikata) was the true one.

Guess who is on my phone's lock screen now? (Too bad HakuMyu doesn't do Sannan's route...)
