Hi hello - so i have a wild ask here for you. So I randomly, truly randomly, decided to listen to my GG playlist today at the gym for the first time in three years??? Anyway reminded me of how good that show was at music and how good you were at finding the songs.
Soooooo (for a blast from the past) - top five GG songs???
K thanksssss ❤️
Oooooooooh hi friend!!!! It means so much to still be associated with the music from good girls 😭💛
But goddamnit I really underestimated how difficult narrowing this down to FIVE SONGS lmao. I'm gonna try to come up with a mix of vibes/character pairings in the scenes the songs are associated with (it's requiring a LOT of restraint to not list only bangers hahahaha)
Alright, in no particular order:
Blanket Me by Hundred Waters
You So Done by Noga Erez
I Feel Like I'm Drowning by Two Feet
Something For Your Mind by Superorganism
Walk Away by Buzzy Lee
Honorable mention to Cruel World by Phantogram bc every time I hear it in a store (which happens way more often than you'd think?!), my brain goes: GOOD GIRLS. THIS IS FROM GOOD GIRLS. THIS IS A GOOD GIRLS SONG.

Good Girls 4x08 Soundtrack Review
Disappeared for a minute this week, but I’m back (for now) to shout at you all about what we heard in 4x08!! Let’s blame this ep’s emotional whiplash for delaying this review, cool?
Songs that made me feel things?
No ~feelings~ feelings which... honestly thank god?? Considering how Rio’s betrayed/hurt/shocked/sad face at the picnic bench caused me serious emotional D E S T R U C T I O N that I’ve yet to fully recover from.
Montage check! A wasted or taken soundtrack opportunity?
STRIP. CLUB. MON. TAGE.
An absolute award-winning (by me—I awarded it) *FRENCH RAP* banger by Laylow called ‘MEGATRON’ that was basically the epitome of what I consider a perfect Good Girls soundtrack choice.
Bop/banger status?
THERE’S NOTHING I LOVE MORE FROM GOOD GIRLS THAN A BOP/BANGER PAIRED WITH A MONTAGE. NOTHING. ‘MEGATRON’ WAS A TOP TIER CHOICE AND NOW I WANT TO CRIME PROPOSE TO JONATHAN LEAHY???? DOES THAT EVEN MAKE SENSE? WHO KNOWS, I AM OVERWHELMED.
Tumblr media
Any memorable songs?
M E G A T R O N  straight into my veins babyyyyyyy
Fave song from the episode?
*downs a shot with Ruby and gets up on the Sweet P’s stage with Beth and Annie*
Tumblr media
(guess)
Least fave song from the episode?
Ok so like... there were other songs in 4x08, but Laylow saved the goddamn day and tbh that’s all that matters to me!
(If I HAD to pick, it’d be ‘He Lives Alone’ by Dory Previn bc 70s music simply doesn’t jive with me or gg, for that matter, and I’m not sure it added anything to Gene’s confession montage.)
How did the music fit with the episode’s ~vibe~?
Like I said in my lil intro... 4x08 left me with some emotional whiplash. When the ep ended, I was like THAT WAS SO GREAT but then all of the heavy Rio backstory stuff came rushing back and it all made me DEEPLY sad for a few days?? So I guess... I also had mixed feelings about the song choices/vibes.
Still digging Rio’s bar vibes (‘The Sun Will Open Its Core’ by Sleep Party People) and Sweet P’s literal bass-induced vibes (day or night, Sweet P’s always be bangin’). The final scene’s song/vibe (’Yakuza Park’ by Surf City)  reminded me a TINY bit of ‘Kimono Hill’—something about it felt both optimistic/troubled. As for the 70s stuff... JL continues to lose me, tbh.
OH but get this: I loved the custom score work in this ep too. Like when Beth’s in the hot tub and disassociating? Magic. The arrest scene? Poor choices were made, but I appreciate how the pulsating score picked up in tandem with the tension/heartbreak.
Wishlist/Manifest-The-Songs-You-Want List
Hmm honestly kind of stumped about what I want from the soundtrack at this point. More memorable song choices for episodes as a whole?? Dare I say ‘surprise me’??
Overall ranking:     MEGA (wink) into only one song this week/10
Episode Track Listing:
The Sun Will Open Its Core - Sleep Party People MEGATRON - Laylow Yakuza Park - Surf City He Lives Alone - Dory Previn The Inventor’s Dream - McDonald and Giles
(Those last two songs aren’t available to stream anywhere, but JL wrote a brief twitter thread about them, and it’s p cool even though I will forever disagree with the 70s song choices!)

Good Girls 4x09 Soundtrack Review
Lmao imagine if I’d written/posted this early on in the five week hiatus instead of at the last possible moment. Do any of us even remember what happened in 4x09?? I do only bc I literally *just* rewatched it.
Songs that made me feel things?
The only thing I’m still deep in my feelings over is S H E K N O W S and no song could match the *rush* that line gave me
Montage check! A wasted or taken soundtrack opportunity?
Holy shit not a montage to be found!!!! I’m cool with it only bc it’s one less time I have to worry about being let down by a soundtrack choice
Bop/banger status?
Tumblr media
Any memorable songs?
Nothing that made me go absolutely feral. But like... is this line not a memorable song in and of itself?
Tumblr media
Fave song from the episode?
Ooh ok I actually LOVED the closing scene’s song, ‘Heartbreak Television’ by Wevals. Idk, it’s subtle and kind of... dark? A little heavy? Moody even?
Least fave song from the episode?
(For the record this is not Lorde slander!! But...) ‘Royals’ was my least fave simply because it felt lazy!! Idk, maybe I’m looking at it too surface-level and it works well in a way I’m not considering? But using a mega-popular, mainstream song fell flat for me/reminded me of the Selena Gomez song used in the opening scene of the pilot—it’s fine, but I find it distracting in the GG universe.
How did the music fit with the episode’s ~vibe~?
There was... hardly any music in this episode. And tbh, I wish the boxing scene song (‘Thumbs Up’ by Tony Cash) had been more of an intentional choice/focus before the scene progressed. Kinda feels like a missed opportunity.
Other than that? 4x09 was... very much all over the place and despite some really JUICY moments (Beth/Stan’s argument, Beth manipulating Phoebe, RIO TELLING N*CK BETH KNOWS HOW BIG IT IS), it felt like a filler episode. And with it, the music was fairly forgettable as well.
Wishlist/Manifest-The-Songs-You-Want List
I’m gonna go rogue here and reset my wishlist for tonight—NO EXPECTATIONS, BABY. BUT LIKE. THERE’S GOTTA BE *ONE* BOP/BANGER AT SOME POINT DURING THE TWO HOURS RIGHT?!
Overall ranking:     so like HOW BIG IS IT/10
Episode Track Listing:
Cosmic Wheels - Donovan Royals - Lorde Thumbs Up - Tony Cash Heartbreak Television - Wevals

Good Girls 4x07 Soundtrack Review
Ohhhhh sweet Carolyn with a Y (...good songs never seemed so good?)
Songs that made me feel things?
I MEAN. What a perfect question to kick things off, because the aptly named ‘Over and Over’ by Bobby Vinton has kept me in my feelings since 4x07 aired. So much so that I issued a, well, 25% apology to Jonathan Leahy for losing his trust hahaha—but coming from me after s3, that’s a big deal!!
Montage check! A wasted or taken soundtrack opportunity?
Taken!! The mom training montage with the girls and Phoebe gave us a delicious lil bop (that JL described as ‘a miraculous dusty groove’, which, YES) that I think had some French lyrics?? Excellent. I actually did some research on ‘Aha Aha’A Ha Ha’A’ by Paul Diamond bc I had a LOT of questions about it?? But all I could find is that it a. was released in Italy in the 80s (@mego42 ARE YOU PROUD OF ME?!) and b. it's only on vinyl/youtube.
Bop/banger status?
Me rewatching the mom!training montage and groovin’ to Paul Diamond:
Tumblr media
Any memorable songs?
Our now-beloved Crime Marriage anthem, ‘Over and Over’ by Bobby Vinton. JL was like “I think you, me, we deserve a very loud love song” and he was right and he should say it.
Fave song from the episode?
Not to be predictable by choosing OVER AND OVER, but uh, definitely ‘Over and Over.’ Honorable mention to the end scene song, ‘Figure 8′ by Body/Negative bc it sounds like a haunted, broken music box?? I think it added to whole Beth/Rio ~you’ve got a choice, choose me otherwise you’ll break us and I’ll haunt you~ tension/cliffhanger. It’s also just...extremely my vibe.
Least fave song from the episode?
I don’t? actually?? have one???
How did the music fit with the episode’s ~vibe~?
So 4x07 had two very different vibes woven VERY closely together throughout it: one was lighthearted and playful (think: ‘grandma’s pissed we missed dessert’ and mom training), while the other was tense as hell (think: literally every time Rio was on screen giving Beth a million opportunities to stop lying to his face hahaha). Basically, it was a gd masterpiece of an episode and it reminded me exactly why I love gg in the first place. It walked that fine line of... we’re having fun but we’re also f*cking nervous!
That said!! I think the music fit SO well. And I’m not just saying that bc JL literally chose a song whose lyrics mention “one lifetime” not being long enough and put it over a Beth/Rio scene. I’m also not NOT saying that. Even the song in the background at Rio’s bar (’My Face on Your Head’ by Joel Jerome) was a good choice. Maaaaybe I’m reading into it too much, but while v subtle, the vocals in it keep looping, which made me think about how many times Beth/Rio have met in a bar and had conversations/situations that also loop. Like they keep going through the same shit, different days. Broken record vibes, y’know? I dig it.
Wishlist/Manifest-The-Songs-You-Want List
My ~feelings~ song tank has been refilled by 4x06 and 4x07, so I think I’m just really craving an alternative jam/bop/what-have-you (I’m clinging on to ‘Kimono Hill’ and ‘Something For Your M.I.N.D.’ which are so great that I just... I’m greedy. I want more of them!).
Overall ranking:    over and over and over and over and over/10
Episode Track Listing:

Good Girls 4x04 Soundtrack Review
As thorough as my temporary 4x04 review was... I actually managed to finish writing a real one! Let’s just say... I still haven’t figured out a nicer way to say I’d rather listen to paint dry than listen to the songs from this episode again 🙃
Songs that made me feel things?
*During* the episode? No. The only thing I felt about the song choices was simmering rage lmao
Over the week that followed 4x04 airing because I had it stuck in my head and because I had a conversation with @mego42 about it?? Kind of! ‘Ocean Rain’ by Echo & the Bunnymen makes me feel... a certain type of way. I DON’T KNOW, I’M CONFUSED.
Montage check! A wasted or taken soundtrack opportunity?
Idk if I’d really consider the opening scene that bounces between Beth/Dean a montage, but... the song choice there was cringeworthy at best. Wasted opportunity! We do get a montage of Stan crime-ing and the girls in time lapse at home set to ‘Thunder Island’ by Jay Ferguson and, uh, it feels like a wasted soundtrack opportunity but I also can’t decide what would fit better? Maybe just... something from this decade hahaha (I’M A SIMPLE GAL). The last montage was a mashup of Beth/Jane(?) and Rio/Fitzy, set to ‘Ocean Rain’ and I’m leaning toward saying it was a taken montage opportunity, because the more I watch it, the more I... dare I say... love it??
Bop/banger status?
Me, every time a song started and ended up NOT being a bop/banger:
Tumblr media
WEIRD how 4x03 got my hopes up and then 4x04 came rolling through and was like LOL GOTCHA. (yes, this is getting personal!)
Any memorable songs?
I’ll give this one to ‘Ocean Rain’ by Echo & The Bunnymen!!
Fave song from the episode?
First place: The instrumental sort of pulsating synth that plays when Stan gets home from work. We only hear it for a few seconds, but I will cling onto it until the bops/bangers return home from the war for real!!
Second place: The song playing in the background at Rio’s bar (’No Good With Secrets’), which sounds a lot more somber and defeated than others we’ve heard in that setting and so what if I’m choosing this one entirely out of bitter defeat!!
Least fave song from the episode?
First place: That Glee-adjacent abomination (’Leave It (A Capella)’) in the opening scene completely distracted me from laughing at Dean pouting in prison, which, rude. The artist’s name might be YES but my opinion is NO.
Second place: ‘Tippy Toeing’
How did the music fit with the episode’s ~vibe~?
I suppose they all fit the vibe that Good Girls has been sticking with since S3,  but it’s not the vibe that got me into the show in the first place, so. I CONTINUE TO WEEP. I will say though... the sort of haunting lyrics/melody of ‘Ocean Rain’ fits the vibes of the montage it’s paired with. Especially when it picks up as the tension snaps for both Beth and Rio in their respective roles. Kinda poetic and I dig it.
To quote @mego42 on ‘Ocean Rain’ (bc she’s like 80% of the reason I’m down with it’s vibe): “it’s all super dramatic ship at stormy sea imagery as a metaphor for a fucked up relationship where both parties are taking turns attacking and dragging the other down but also begging each other to hear the ‘tender frame’ beneath it all and i am ABSOLUTELY OBSESSED WITH IT OVERLAID A SCENE ABOUT HOW RIO FINALLY GOT BETH TO BE DOWN WITH MURDER AND HOW BETH USED HIM TO EXECUTE IT. like WHAT A CIRCLE.”
Wishlist/Manifest-The-Songs-You-Want List
At this point I just want something that vaguely resembles ANY of the songs we heard in S1/S2 hahaha
Tumblr media
Overall ranking: RIP me/10
Episode Track Listing:
Leave It (A Capella) - YES Thunder Island - Jay Ferguson Ocean Rain - Echo & The Bunnymen No Good With Secrets - Saturday Looks Good to Me Tippy Toeing - Cascade Sweethearts

Queen, WE GOT ONE BOP! but anyway, i must again request your services in finding the music from the 4x06 promo cause i love it and again it will not be in the episode lol
LISTENNNNN the way I’m eating up these lone bops/bangers every four episodes we’re blessed with one... 4x05′s gets bonus points for being paired with a crime montage!!! And for being called ‘mommy can’t sleep’ idk it’S JUST EVERYTHING I’VE BEEN LOOKING FOR IN A GG SOUNDTRACK SONG SINCE S3!!!!
More importantly.... you are MY queen for requesting the 4x06 promo song because I only spent the *entirety* of Monday tracking it down. Like I went so far as to use two different pairs of noise-cancelling headphones and a tempo detecting app... (Mr Leahy, please. I’m so desperate for bops/bangers that I’m thirsting after these made-for-tv/trailers generic tracks??? IT’S SAD. FOR ALL OF US. AND I’D ARGUE IT’S VAGUELY MISLEADING THAT THE EPISODES THEMSELVES ARE MUSICALLY DULLLLLLLL COMPARED TO THE PROMOS. Ahem, xoxo your friendly neighborhood gg soundtrack aficionado) .... Anyway, I DID find the promo song and I was THIS close to posting about it, but I decided to wait and see if anyone else wanted it. And well, HELLO, YOU!!!
That said, the 4x06 promo bop is called ‘Can’t Stop Me Now’ but sadly, doesn’t seem to be available anywhere beyond the Extreme Music website??
It’s fine, I’m fiNE NOT DISAPPOINTED AT ALL!

Good Girls 4x03 Soundtrack Review
Um. I’ve been looking forward to writing this review ALL. WEEK. Let’s get into it. (Sidenote: let me know if there are other categories you want to see in my reviews!)
Songs that made me feel things?
Not really? Not in a ‘Walk Away’ or ‘Chained’ kind of way, at least. The ending montage with Annie crying made me feel things, but ‘You Can’t Make It Alone’ by Plain Jane didn’t really add anything to it for me.
Montage check! A wasted or taken soundtrack opportunity?
OPPORTUNITY: TAKEN. Idk if we can count Stan stealing cash at the club as a montage?? It was more of a time-lapse kinda thing. BUT we got a cash-making montage with the trio and they paired it with ‘Hope Is for the Hopeless (Vogued)’ by The Golden Dregs and Vogued. Not a top fave song choice, but I liked that it was a low-key bop! The vocals kind of reminded me of ’El Musgo’ by Gabriel Bruce (from that Beth x Rio scene in 3x04). And the classic end-of-episode montage with ‘You Can’t Make It Alone’ was fine, but like I said above—could take it or leave it.
Bop/banger status?
Actual footage of me driving to pick up a pizza last night with my windows down and ‘Karaté’ by Yelle on repeat (except I was alone, so tag urself if ur dancing with me):
Tumblr media
Any memorable songs?
KARATÉ BY YELLE EVEN THOUGH WE ONLY GOT TO HEAR IT AT FULL-VOLUME FOR ALL OF TWELVE SECONDS (so what if i timed it, SO WHAT)
Fave song from the episode?
KARATÉ BY YELLE !!!!!!! (followed by ‘Hope Is for the Hopeless’)
Least fave song from the episode?
Hahaha this will probably come as a surprise to no one at this point, but the 90s flashback song choices? Meh. I suppose I just find it hard to believe someone as dull as Dean has any music preferences hahaha
How did the music fit with the episode’s ~vibe~?
I think 4x03′s vibe paired perfectly with the soundtrack. I’m *beyond* thrilled that we got a BANGER from Stan’s club scene and that we got to see our trio make cash to a bop. The 90s flashbacks weren’t cluttered with throwbacks—the music choices were subtle, which I super appreciate. And I thought the final scene’s song (which came from the ~Yacht Rock~ playlist of the strip club boss hahaha *so many questions about his vibe*) fit the overall vibe of the episode—kind of ending things on a thoughtful, weary, vaguely sad note.
Wishlist/Manifest-The-Songs-You-Want List
We haven’t really had an opportunity for a ‘Blanket Me’ type situation so far in S4, but that’s what I’m looking for next. Something to punch me in the heart. Also I’d LOVE a ‘Something For Your M.I.N.D.’ type song soon too. Aaaaand idk, knowing we’re coming up on a cliffhanger/some potentially intense fallouts... I want a dark jam. Like... ‘Wild Heart’/’Angel’-dark.
Overall ranking: groovin’/10
Episode Track Listing:
I Love Your Smile - Shanice Around The Way Girl - LL Cool J Subaru Nights - Insecure Men Karaté - Yelle Hope Is for the Hopeless (Vogued) - The Golden Dregs, Vogued You Can’t Make It Alone - Plain Jane

I would still like a more detailed review on the 4.1 soundtrack, please and thank you!!
omg hi thank you for taking me up on my dare, @riosnosestud!!
in a word, 4x01′s soundtrack was... forgettable. in two words: what soundtrack?? (hahaha see where i’m going with this? I CAN’T NAME WHICH SCENES HAD SONGS, NOR WHAT THE SONGS EVEN WERE, BECAUSE I DON’T REMEMBER ANY OF EM.)
yes, i’m being a little dramatic, BUT let me explain.
i’ve always considered the gg soundtrack to be one of the show’s characters. it adds personality and emotion. it energizes the montages and heightens the tension. it drives the mood. it’s bangers and bops and heartbreaking ballads!!! it’s memorable as heck. and best of all, it introduces us to songs/artists we’ve never heard of.
(really and truly, music recs are my love language—this obvs includes tv show soundtracks acting as music recs hahaha)
since s3, the soundtrack has lost its potency. and i don’t think it’s not leaving an impact in the same way that it did in s1/s2 (think: ‘blanket me,’ ‘i feel like i’m drowning,’ ‘shake baby shake,’ ‘easy,’ ‘walk away,’ ‘something for your M.I.N.D.,’ etc.). don’t get me wrong, s3 did have a few noteworthy songs (i could wax poetic about the brilliance that is ‘you so done’ by noga erez)—not enough for an entire playlist dedicated to it though!! which again, for me, is uncharacteristic of good girls.
i KNOW the music supervisors have invested more in the instrumental score that’s been woven throughout each episode since s3 (we even hear it a little bit in 4x01), which was... a choice, but i think it’s falling flat. the score focus has left the show’s soundtrack as empty as the abandoned warehouse, the empty loft. as empty as beth’s house even!! and no offense to lucy or turner, but... i’m mourning the soundtrack more than anyone else.
that said, there were actually 5 songs in 4x01:
under pressure — karen o + willie nelson
shadows of the night — pat benatar
sing to me candy — papercuts
nite life — ADULT.
i feel for you — jerry reed
the acoustic ‘under pressure’ cover was actually kind of a fun intro to the season (but believe you me, it got my hopes up a few seconds in and they came crashing down when i realized it was, in fact, an 80′s cover song).
i feel v strongly that they wasted yet another montage song opportunity (but at least it was a mostly dean-focused one? aka not a scene i want to remember, in particular. so i’ll let this one slide.)
papercuts’ ‘sing to me candy’ is what’s playing in rio’s bar (!!!!!!!!) and the more i rewatch and rewatch and, um, rewatch that scene, the more i’m into it? whilst not terribly memorable, it fits the beth x rio x bar scene vibe!!
‘nite life’ is low-key boppy and i guess i was fully distracted by whatever the hell beth was doing with that letter to dean while it was playing?? this one will grow on me!
i honestly don’t remember where the jerry reed song comes in, all i know is that it fits that 70s/80s/90s throwback thing that jonathan leahy has been doing since s3 and i’m ~over~ it.
i’m low-key disappointed to see that the lackluster s3 vibes have carried into 4x01, but i’m curious to see if/how the soundtrack progresses alongside the rest of s4. and i’m really trying to be optimistic!!
with all of that said, i’m actually outlining a weekly, full-on episodic soundtrack review! ideally i’ll get 4x01′s up before 4x02 airs.
so now i’m wondering... how’re the rest of you feeling about 4x01′s soundtrack??

GG 4x01 Soundtrack Review
Here we go! My first installment of the weekly s4 soundtrack review (only uh, a week late hahaha). I’m still working out the kinks of exactly *how* I want to review each episode’s songs, so let me know if you have any category suggestions/requests! Or if you want song-by-song breakdowns?? And since I already did a bit of a song breakdown review here, I’m gonna keep this 4x01 one short n sweet.
Songs that made me feel things?
Ugh, no. Not this week. But this category will remain for as long as my hopes do.
Montage check! A wasted or taken soundtrack opportunity?
We had two montages in 4x01! The first was a Dean/Beth combo set to ‘Shadows of the Night’ by Pat Benatar and it, like all things Dean-focused, did absolutely nothing for me. V much a wasted soundtrack opportunity. The second montage was Beth/hot tub-selling one set to ‘Nite Life’ by ADULT. and the more I’ve watched the scene, the more I get into the song choice. It’s low-key a bop and at this point, I’ll take it.
Bop/banger status?
When will the actual bops/bangers return home from war? I weep.
Any memorable songs?
Based on my S1/S2 Good Girls soundtrack standards, 4x01 gets a hard no in terms of memorability.
Fave song from the episode?
‘Sing to Me Candy’ by Papercuts—it’s not a song we hear at full volume, but I love that it pairs perfectly with Rio’s vaguely hipster bar vibe (side note: can we all agree that the bar from 2x04/2x05/etc. was also Rio’s bar or). The song itself is mellow enough to not distract from their *ACTUAL CONVERSATION* (!!!!!), but it makes the setting feel more alive/realistic than if there’d been no (or even indecipherable) background music.
Least fave song from the episode?
‘I Feel for You’ by Jerry Reed, simply because I don’t remember it at ALL.
How did the music fit with the episode’s ~vibe~?
Overall, I’m still not jiving with the throwback-themed soundtrack?? There’s something about present-day, unfamiliar artists/songs that make the Good Girls universe feel like it’s its own place. Though I will say… I think the ‘Under Pressure’ cover actually fits well as a transition from S3-S4 (if only because it’s an acoustic cover rather than the original, because certain characters are v much ~under pressure~, AND because it’s on par with a lot of what we heard in S3).
Overall ranking: 3.5/10
Episode Track Listing:
Under Pressure - Karen O, Willie Nelson Shadows Of The Night - Pat Benatar Sing to Me Candy - Papercuts Nite Life - ADULT. I Feel for You - Jerry Reed

Good Girls 4x05 Soundtrack Review
Lmao yes you read that right... 4x05.
Songs that made me feel things?
This is gonna be a surprise to anyone who knows how I felt about the S3 instrumental score... but oh my god the echoey, pulsating score that takes over the background music at the diner when Rio shows up moments after Phoebe/Dave walk in and Beth’s internally panicking?! It reminded me of the ringing in Beth’s ears at the bar in 3x02/3x03 and it made me feel a LOT of things. Like, every muscle in my body was clenched because of the tension it added. My ass has never looked better.
Montage check! A wasted or taken soundtrack opportunity?
The opening sort-of-montage with Beth waiting for Rio and Phoebe/Dave getting her all wired up was paired with a mellow cover of ‘Louie, Louie’ by The Sandpipers. I can’t explain why, but it v much worked for me?! But then. THEN. We got THE BANKER MONTAGE. With an extremely ~taken~ soundtrack opportunity, which leads me to...
Bop/banger status?
BANGER CITY, POPULATION: BANKER BITCH.
Tumblr media
Any memorable songs?
I mean, i haven’t stopped listening to ‘Mommy Can’t Sleep’ or thinking about Beth strutting around to it since 4x05 aired so!!!
Fave song from the episode?
I’LL LET YOU GUESS
*(but also, honorable mention to the score because I’m obsessed with what it did for the diner scene)
Least fave song from the episode?
I can’t name a single song from this ep that I disliked and I think that victory alone is worth not choosing a least fave!
How did the music fit with the episode’s ~vibe~?
EXTREMELY VIBE-Y. I don’t know what shifted, but every song worked with the scene it was paired up with in 4x05. Even the 60s-esque song choices (note: the ‘Louie, Louie’ cover is actually from the 60s, while ’Feel Good’ is from 2013, and ‘The Beacon’ is from 2020) fit the episode’s mood. AND we got a song in French, which I’m an absolute sucker for—especially since it was paired with Beth actively stepping back into a crime role.
I know I’ve given myself a bit of an ‘obsessed-with-bops-and-bangers-only’ reputation, BUT. That’s just because I miss their frequency. My obsession with the Good Girls soundtrack runs DEEP (so much so that, if you ever look at Tunefind for songs, I’ve written many of those scene captions hahaha I need a hobby). That said though, when I think of the gg soundtrack overall (depending on the episode/season, of course), it’s a perfect balance of:
bops/bangers
anything alternative/indie
French tunes
mega-FEELINGS!!-type songs
(S1/S2 had more hip-hop/rap, which I miss—but idk, I think the show’s vibe has shifted away from that). This is all basically to say: I LOVE that we still get the occasional song in French. It just...makes sense.
Wishlist/Manifest-The-Songs-You-Want List
Still waiting on a song that hits an emotional level that we haven’t reached in a v long time (a la ‘Walk Away’). And as always, some sort of alternative bop (like ’Something For Your M.I.N.D.’-adjacent)!
Overall ranking:     MHMM YEP FEELIN’ IT/10
Episode Track Listing:
Louie, Louie - The Sandpipers Bossa Nova Baby - Teddy Gold, Mi$HNRZ Three Longers Later - Stereolab Mommy Can’t Sleep - XVOTO Feel Good - Sandy Szigeti The Beacon - Benny Yurco

OH. seeing the promo for 4x07 again just reminded me that i found the song they used for it! (in record time, no less hahaha get a real hobby, kim)
4x07′s promo song is called ‘boom’ AND even though it’s an extreme music song, the track’s vocalist has a so-called ‘alter-ego’ under the name MUSZETTE, and with it, an EP with the song on it, so it’s actually on spotify!!
(i’ve also started a playlist with all of the s4 promo songs that are available on spotify—sadly a bunch aren’t, but i’ll keep adding to it throughout the rest of the season!)

Good Girls 4x06 Soundtrack Review
Believe it or not, there were a few songs in this ep and I actually will mention a few of them below even though I could summarize this review into two words (see tags)??
Songs that made me feel things?
I’m gonna be honest, EVERY song in 4x06 made me feel things?? Which makes me feel MORE things than just those initial things??? I’m basically just... extremely in my feelings over here still hahahaha
But when I originally wrote this review template, I was referring to FEELINGS-feelings. Like... ‘Walk Away’ and ‘Blanket Me’-type feelings. Which, hello, there is only one answer and it has EVERYTHING to do with a certain bookshelf. These two might know what I’m talking about...

Montage check! A wasted or taken soundtrack opportunity?
4x06 went three for three on montage song opportunities. *still weeping straight-up JOY over here*
The delightful Baby Tyler’s morning routine montage had ‘Strut’ by Sheena Easton, which I’d argue is the perfect use for an 80s bop (finally).
THEN we had the sort-of-montage with Beth going through the motions of her own routine, completely distracted by her mind (which, OBSESSED) and it was backed by a song called ‘Silken’ by Drum & Lace (which is one half of the GG composer team we’ve had since s3)—v v v on board with this song choice. Both perfect as a song on its own and as a companion for that scene.
And then!!! We got a French bop (‘Objet Petit A’ by Astral Shell) to make the montage of our crime trio preparing to rob the jewelry store fun and energetic and basically everything I’ve been needing since like... s2. More weeping!!
Bop/banger status?
We got a French bop but like... I haven’t talked about ‘Whole Life’ enough in this review and that’s the only song that matters and I can’t believe I’m saying this lol yes I can, but who needS BOPS OR BANGERS WHEN YOU’VE GOT ‘WHOLE LIFE’
Me over the last two weeks, with ‘Whole Life’ on repeat:

Any memorable songs?
I mean. I think we can ALL agree that there was one particular song hit allllll the right notes. Especially the g. YA FEEL?? Is this a terrible joke? Probably. Do I care? No RIO FINGERED BETH I’M STILL NOT OVER IT. HOW COULD I BE????
Fave song from the episode?
DO I EVEN NEED TO SAY IT
Tumblr media
Least fave song from the episode?
Uh, when ‘Whole Life’ ended.
How did the music fit with the episode’s ~vibe~?
No vibes just crime husband fingers!!
I’M KIDDING not really, I do think it’s worth noting that 4x06′s soundtrack was *exactly* what I’ve been missing since s2 and god, I loved it. Still love it. Vibes for DAYS.
