no, i don't know all the baldur's gate 3 companions yet. yes, i am making this post anyway

What the BG3 companions order at a London pub

Lae'zel drinks whiskey. Not the cheap stuff, either; no Jack Daniels or Jameson for her. Most of the time she will drink Laphroaig because they're bound to have it; occasionally she will venture out of her comfort zone. She usually drinks it straight but often asks for a glass of tap water on the side and very rarely drinks her whiskey on the rocks.

Shadowheart will try anything once, but when she's trying to get drunk she will go directly for Bacardi spiced rum. She prefers it with no mixer but will compromise and have soda water in it to get the bar staff to stop looking at her funny. She always tells them not to garnish her drink because one time she forgot to mention it and the person serving her actually squeezed the lemon slice before dropping it in.

Gale drinks white wine, preferably Chardonnay but otherwise whatever they've got. He will generally buy a bottle and also ask for a glass of ice cubes, because he must have exactly three ice cubes in his wine glass. No one has dared to ask him why, except Halsin in a general "why do people drink cold alcohol?" sense, and Gale has not deigned to answer that.

Astarion drinks red wine. Or vodka cranberry. Or anything red, really. He knows it's not blood, it doesn't taste the same, but there's something very satisfying about letting a flash of his teeth show as he's taking a sip of a red beverage. If you were to ask him what alcohol he likes, he would cluck his tongue at you and tell you that's not what drinking is about.

Wyll drinks IPAs, because i have personally found that the stereotypes of IPA bros are a distinctly American thing and don't exist in nearly the same capacity over here. He simply enjoys a beer with a little heft—but not too much, now, can't drink a dark ale after all. He hems and haws when asked which one is his favourite, and to this day has never given a straightforward answer.

Karlach drinks any beer that she can get her hands on, but she has a soft spot for local lagers like Camden Hells. If she's the designated driver, she will have two pints of lager shandy¹ and then switch to lemonade. Why are you looking at her like that? She can handle it.

Minthara detests pubs and prefers cocktail bars, but you can't be picky with this group, so she peruses their cocktail options until she finds a half-decent one. Usually it's a Long Island Iced Tea. She chews on her paper straw so much that by the time she's finished the drink, there is no straw left.

Halsin would really prefer mead, but pubs don’t tend to sell that, so he sticks with cask ales. He likes a good Ghost Ship, if they've got it. He cannot stand drinking cold alcohol and has wondered aloud multiple times how the others deal with it. They are all used to this by now and don’t answer his tipsy ramblings.

1. A shandy consists of approximately 50% beer and 50% lemonade. Shandies come in half-pint and pint form. Not to be confused with a top, which is an almost-full half-pint or pint of beer with two or three spurts of lemonade. Shandies and tops tend to be priced the same as the equivalent measure of pure beer.

Baldur's Gate fanartists will draw Astarion like a renaissance painting and Wyll like the cover of an adventure novel and Gale like a Leyendecker drawing and Karlach like the cover of a trashy romance novel (where she is the beefy hunk and her love interest is the swooning maiden) and Lae'zel like a knight in a manuscript and Shadowheart and Minthara like the cover of a lesbian pulp novel and Halsin coming out of a lake like the bear equivalent of the Birth of Venus and they're all so right

My favorite thing about Baldur's Gate 3 is the idea that Tav is traveling with these people for weeks and only knows one of their last names until near the end.

Like the full grade school behaviour of "You're all my best friends and I'm in love with one of you also what the fuck is an Ancunin. No saer you're mistaken Gale's last name is 'Ofwaterdeep'. My boy Wyll Ravengard *poses* the Blade of Frontiers. Where is Cliffgate."
