Visiting a friend

Abyss had just passed through the gate connecting Wastelands temple with Vault, breathing in the damp, cold air that felt like such a relief from wastelands warm sulfur smell. They were visiting Vault again. Last time they had been here, Abyss was leading two loud Moths, named Sammy and Secret, through Wasteland, promising to bring them to the eye of eden.

Now however, they were alone. Without loud but lovable Skykids at their side, they finally felt at peace enough to really enjoy the calmness of Vault.

The tall skykid set in motion, their hooves, barely visible through their fluff, making a clacking sound on the tiled floor.

Clack clack clack...

It wasn't long before they reached the entrance. A tall stone portal opened up before them, leading into the first hall. It was a lot fuller here, skykids were carrying books, examining memory cubes and quietly chatting amongst themselves.

"Ehem!"

Abyss looked down, seeing a small, scrawny skykid looking up at them. The kid was clearly nervous, shuffeling his feet. Perhaps the was wondering what lead to him having to talk to such a giant and intimidating stranger? In the distance, a group of young skykids started cheering.

He cleared his throat and shyly said "uhm.. Zack, guard in training. May I have your name and identification please?... O-oh and the reason for your stay of course!" He flashed Abyss a nervous smile.

Before said bunny masked skykid could react however, a person on their right side started laughing.

"No need Zack, that's just Abyss. They're a traveller and come here often, no need to look them up." He walked over, giving Abyss a gentle pat on the shoulder. "Forgive Zack, he's a new trainee. He still needs to learn how things work around here."

"Yes, but Sir!" The shy voice piped up. "Doesn't it say in the protocol that ALL visiting Skykids need to report to the guard AND show their identification?" Zack looked nervous still, but had a challenging glare in his eyes.

"Well, usually yes, but only if they visit rarely and aren't known to the guard!" As the older Guard explained, the trainee hastily started taking notes on a notepad he had pulled from under his cape. "You see-" the guard continued "Abyss is a traveller, they travel from realm to realm... I'm sure you've heard of travellers before? Anyway, Abyss guides moths or do other little tasks here and there. If you keep working for us, you will get to know them better." Zack eagerly nodded.

As soon as he was done taking notes, he bowed politely towards the traveller. "Excuse the hold up Abyss, you may enter! Take care."

Abyss nodded at him, watching as he skipped over to a group of trainees, excitedly chattering to them.

The older guard looked up at them. "Now before you go, I better tell you that Wren has been wait-"

Fwomp!

A blur of white and purple had tackled Abyss, squeezing their neck as if life depended on it.

Abyss, already used to this, enveloped the Attacker in a giant bear hug, twirling them around until loud laughs were audible.

"ABYSSSSSSSSS!!! OH MY ELDERS.. I'm so happy you're back!!"

Wrens emerald green eyes looked up, making contact with Abyss's golden ones under their mask. She hugged Abyss closer, snuggeling her face into their chestfluff.

The Guard let out a quiet laugh, at which point Wren shot him a warning glare. It was as if she warned the guard not to mention that she had been waiting in the cold hall for hours after she had heard of Abyss heading towards Vault. The guard stopped laughing and looked the other way.

Wren turned back around, squeezing Abyss tighter. "Are you staying longer? It's been ages since we had time to stargaze! Oh or read! Now that I think about it, I have just found something that might interest you we have to check it out soon. Nowthatyoureherewecan-"

"Excuse the interruption, priestress Wren?"

Wren let go of Abyss, turning around to the guard, who was bowing very respectfully.

"Yes?" She was blushing, having totally forgotten his presence.

"Everything's fine at the Gate. Just a few rambunctious Moths earlier. But we took care of it."

Wren gave him a sign to stand up while adjusting her glasses, and he gave her a thankful smile.

"Thank you for that. I hope the rest of your shift will be calmer. You have the trainees today too, don't you?"

The old Guard nodded.

"Well then, Abyss and me will get-"

Abyss suddenly placed a hand on Wrens back, motioning a thumbs up and gesturing to the group of trainees, who were now watching the scene, whispering excitedly.

"Oh, awww! Of course, of course. Guard, Abyss here wishes you good luck with training and wants to tell you that Zack has really impressed them! He already knows his job well in theory."

Abyss nodded an agreement, their eyes glowing proudly under the mask.

Before the Guard could respond, Wren had already grabbed Abyss's hand, leading them away.

"Now, what do we want to do first? I know you're probably tired, so stargazing? Or I could show you the things I found! Youwontbelieve..."

Just a short drabble showing a bit of the relationship between Wren and Abyss.

Wren didn't really have a lot of friends before becoming Vaults head priestress, so she treasures her friendship with Abyss a lot. She also has a habit of showing her friends a lot of information she thinks they'd like or would find interesting.

Abyss on the other hand is a quiet but giant cuddlebug, being very interested in their smol but excited friends, well... everything.

While I was being dragged around by Blue with Kitty in Prairie, we found Blue’s twin! Blue’s cape is technically teal, but the skykid had probably a beta cape. Anyways, Blue was really excited about it but didn’t have any candles so Kitty and I befriended the kiddo first until Blue got enough wax. And then I said we have adopted a bluebird XD so we called her that! At least, Blue and I did. I think Kitty did too.

Not long after, another kiddo with pigtails and a brown cape tagged along with us. We named her Sparrow. Another ponytailed brown caped girl also for some reason decided to make friends with me, so I named her Wren :3

I has birdies now XD

Wren is the intelligent and analytical head priestress of the Vault of Knowledge. As such, she knows the in and outs of the entire realm, the names of everyone who lives there, where she can find each member of the guard and where everything is stored. In short, a very good organizer.

Not only that, she is also very good at communicating, not only with the skykids under her command or the other realms, but also with the Vault Elder Lamed. She executes all her tasks well and efficiently, making her a very capable and unquestioned leader.

Behind all that, Wren is totally the person to go home, grab a cup of instant noodles and watch anime late into the night, if that stuff would exist in Sky. She's very nerdy, with a ton of special and slightly unusal interests. Ever wanted to know what the stones in Isle consist of, in detail and how those materials came to be?

Wren can tell you. She will probably tell you too, as she's unafraid to tell anyone everything about what she's currently interested in.

He's very curious and Wren knows a lot

Wants to teach him, but he gets bored if she takes too long to explain

She notices Memphis interest in her job and his desire to be a guard

Tries to help him with theory

Both are a bit distant, but overall friendly

Zephyr:

They interact regularly, due to how close Forest and Vault work together

She respects him, as he takes his job serious and does it well

She considers him almost a friend

Karma:

Karma's crimes are well known to her, she read through the files

No wonder they are in the forbidden section

She thinks Karma's research, although unethical, is interesting and worth looking into

But not in the way Karma did

If she would meet Ray, she'd give her a piece of her mind

Zephyr is the talented and serious head guard of the hidden forest. It's his job to lead and organise the guard, making sure the realm is safe.

He appears friendly and kind when talking to others, to encourage the skykids living in the realm to come to him with problems. Zephyr is very patient indeed, however the Elder Teth expects everyone serving her to be the very best, so there's more hidden beneath this layer.

He seems to have a soft spot for a skykid named Memphis, who has been trying to take over the guard for ages. At least he's flirting a lot, which is flying over Memphis head most of the time.

Bird traits

Easily excitable, curious, with a bit of a troublemaker streak, Baku is a young chibi living in Valley. He loves making new friends and is known to light everyone he meets up, excitedly chattering and honking at them.

As he's still quite young and therefore naive, Baku hasn't yet realised not everyone is friendly and that life isn't always as cheerful as he thinks it is.

He dreams of one day becoming the very fastest racer in all the realms, wanting to be recognised by everyone. At the moment he's still too young to actually take part in any, but that doesn't stop him from sliding down slopes and flying as fast as he can everyday.

Abyss is one of the few skykids who have never settled into any of the realms, instead preferring to travel between them. Even though they are very much a loner, Abyss likes Moths and younger skykids around the realms and even into Eden. Very protective and caring.

They are known to be very quiet, rarely talking and instead preferring to communicate via honks and emotes. Rumors say that Abyss is a wonderful storyteller, once you actually get them to talk.
