Coming up with designs for the future Wood-Burned Cutting Board listing I'm going to put in the shop.
All are general mock-ups because I won't be buying cutting boards for this until I have actual orders in-hand, due to the cost of the blank cutting boards themselves. Due to this and the handmade nature of the end product (and general differences in the wooden cutting boards), while I will strive to keep them as close to the examples as possible, they will all be unique and different in their own ways.
These examples are all from the $100 options. There are also more intricate $125 and $175 design options that I am working on examples of.

So on the RP blog I just ported her over from an AU I wrote once and didn't really think about the logistics but I did sort of imply that Jack had Tequila both before and after being mutinied and getting hit with a cannon ball and all that so now I am imagining her hovering somewhere just off screen for all of episode 8 and when Jack wakes up in the dinghy she's sitting there demolishing a fish she caught.

huh apparently wood cutting boards are fairly antimicrobial due to absorption of moisture by the wood and (depending on your washing & prep practices) can harbor less bacteria than plastic cutting boards

genuinely one of the most nonissue annoying things to me is whenever elitist snobs brag about owning a cast iron & then proceed to explain all the ways in which they arent treating their cast iron properly with the confidence of someone who thinks they know what theyre doing
"i only wash my cast iron twice a year" ur cast iron is fucking disgusting
"i never wash my cast iron with soap and water" how the fuck are u cleaning it then.
"my cast iron lives on the stove 24/7" waste of space + imagine how much dust is being collected and how much oil & food shit gets spattered on ur cast iron every time u use ur stovetop
genuinely cast irons are wonderful tools that can last decades if u treat them well, but u have to know how to treat them properly. NEVER leave food shit in there, and never leave grease from cooking. grease such as from bacon and beef goes rancid and isnt good for seasoning ur pan.
*always* hand wash ur cast iron with soap and warm water after use like u would a normal pan. let it cool on the stove after use, dispose of ur oil properly, and *hand wash* then towel dry immediately. use vegetable oil and a cloth (paper towel also works but leaves paper fibers behind) and coat the *entire* surface in a small, even coating to protect the iron. u can put ur cast iron away in the cabinet at this point, but if ur pan is super dry u can gently warm the pan back up at a very low temp on the stove, then let it cool before storing.
cast iron cookware is a bit of an investment but extremely useful and not prone to scratches or flaking like cheap cookware. personally i recommend a good large cast iron wok.

I'm so nervous when handling raw chicken but I've seen some very horrible handling of chickens and I feel safer.

So. I have been dyeing my work clothes black(er) today, because my manager kept making oblique hints about how, for instance, we sold washing machine dye pods that employees Could use to make sure their black work clothes were black enough and looked "fresh" and not "shabby"
This took fucking hours. I had to do the neckline alteration on the shirt that gives me migraines (by hand, because I don't know where my mum keeps her sewing machine and she's away for the weekend (also, I probably going to have to rip it out and redo it, because I didn't really know what I was doing and the nice side is on the inside and I didn't know how to blind hem, so I back stitched everything and the stitching looks very obvious and Terrible)) before I could start, which took about three hours from 2 p.m.-5 p.m. and then I had to prewash everything (45 minute mixed load wash), wash it on a full cotton cycle at 40°C with no water saving settings with the unwrapped dye pod in the drum (3 and a half hours), wash the clothes again with detergent for a full cycle (another three and a half hours). The machine is now running a full cycle empty, with detergent, to wash it. So I will have single-handedly colonized the washing machine, with only my clothes, for 11 hours and 15 minutes by the time this is done. I live in a household with a person who has daily continence issues, so this does not feel like I have been fair with my use of the fucking washing machine.
Anyway.
I was slightly slow off the mark going downstairs to get stuff out of the machine to iron, and by the time I had got there one of my siblings had already put them (balled up) into the dryer, which had just finished its (too fast and too hot) cycle and the clothes were bone dry and wrinkled to shit.
I got a spray bottle from my hairdressing course days and put some aluminum foil under the ironing board cover and tried not to cry. After the iron had fully heated, it pissed calcium flakes all over my clothes when I used the steam function, because apparently my dad has not been bothering his hole using distilled water and the iron is ful of fucking limescale. I tried to avoid using steam, and just sprayed what I was ironing until it was very wet, but the flakes were still somewhat unavoidable. In order to be close to an outlet, I had to stand somewhere that my shadow was cast onto the pitch fucking black fabric I was trying to iron, which made it hard to see and make sure I wasn't pressing new creases in. I burned my forearm on the iron while trying to manoeuvre it between my dominant and non-dominant hand, because reaching with my dominant hand was rumpling the fabric beneath the tip of the iron.
I was trying and trying to do this for 45 minutes and had to keep stopping to try not to cry, because no matter what I did I couldn't get rid of the deepest creases and it was so hard to keep from creasing it more as I worked. In that time I got the back of a collar and one of the cuffs (partially) ironed. I had to stop because I couldn't stop crying about how likely it was that I will lose my job over this bullshit, and because it was by then midnight and I can't fucking iron all night into the wee small hours and then get up for work in the morning.
I have asked my sister to put my clothes back in the dryer with a wet towel and hang them up and that I will try again in the morning but. Fuck. I don't know what to fucking do.
