The friend I’ve been watching Death Note with works at a craft store I frequent and a lot of times I plan my trips for when he’ll be off so he can go with me and use his employee discount though recently he told me his employee code and said as long as I give that to the cashier that should be fine, but today I went there with my mom to get some stuff and he just happened to be working the register and because I’m insufferable I slunk up and in my best valley girl voice was like “Heyyyyyyyy so my bestie works here and he said if I give his employee number I can get a discount-“ and he said “No.” and so I changed gears and said “Please, I am but an impoverished, penniless orphan (my mother was standing right next to me), can you not spare a discount…” and he was still like :| so I made my final Hail Mary play where I whipped up some fake tears and said “You know, I’m going through a really hard time right now, recently someone very dear to me died unexpectedly, you remember that day recently where we had that random rain? Well that day- he just had a heart attack out of absolutely nowhere. Otherwise perfectly healthy. And the guy who was like a father to him, it was almost like he died of a broken heart-“ and at that point I got a snort of laughter out of him and the discount.

"We are fundraising to purchase 288,000 3M 9501+ KN95 masks from government surplus!
Our goal is $9,000 to win the auction and pay for transportation of the masks from VA to mask blocs across the country.
These include mask blocs in DC, Northern Southern and Central Virginia, New Orleans, St. Louis, and Champaign Urbana, New York City, Kansas City, Tulsa, Knoxville, Long Island and more.
Currently, a pallet of 12,000 KN95 masks is 200 dollars each. We are aiming to buy as many pallets as possible and deliver them to whoever wants them! If you want to support but can't contribute, consider sharing this to your socials.
#MaskBloc #MaskDistribution fundraising #COVIDIsntOver #MutualAid"
"We’ve made contact with the seller, and they’ve agreed to sell them directly at $200/palette!
By buying directly instead of through the auction, we will definitely be getting these masks. The only question is how many.
The more money we raise, the more palettes we can buy, and the more transportation we can pay for to get these masks to communities across the country!
ALMOST HALFWAY THERE!!! LETS GOOO!!!! Thank you all for your support, sharing and contributions. Speaking on behalf of all of the organizers, we are so stoked that this campaign is going well and about how many masks we are going to be able to get. Thank you!!!
Alt text: Flyer with periwinkle and orange color scheme. Text at the top says “Mask Fundraiser. Joint mask bloc effort (14+ blocs). Bulk discount on high-quality KN95s at surplus sale. Every dollar makes a dent. Asterisks. $4=240 masks. $200=12,000 masks. Goal: 280,000 masks.”
Underneath is an image of a large metal shipping container with 10 big visible cardboard boxes. Next to that is an illustration of a hand holding a white respirator with ear-loop straps that shows the text “kn95 gb2626-2019.”
Text at the bottom of the flyer says “donate: tinyurl.com/bulk-kn95s. Going to mask blocs in: DC, Northern/Southern/Central Virginia, New Orleans, St. Louis, Champaign Urbana, Chicago, New York City, Kansas City, Tulsa, Knoxville, Long Island, Cincinnati, San Jose & more. To be distributed for free to all of our communities.” Asterisks mentioned at top of flyer are resolved here, with an asterisk next to text that says “Portion of money also going toward transport and associated costs.""

Working in Japan
This is a repost of a thread I made on Twitter, but essentially, it's a breakdown of how much I made working as a freelancer in Japan. Consider a cautionary tale if you're thinking about moving to Japan.
So i made roughly 5 million yen last year, right? Highest i've ever gotten after 14 years in Japan (higher than what i made at my old company even). Awesome, right?
Tumblr media
Well, since i am freelance, i have to cover my own expenses. this includes lights, internet, software, other equip or transport I need for work. So once you subtract all of that, roughly 3 mil yen, I have about 2 mil yen left. Not terrible, but not great.
Tumblr media
Now, from this 2 mil, I have to subtract health insurance, which a monthly payment of about 12000 yen (144,000 a year). Ouch, but like, necessary. 1.8 mil is still not.... the worst.
Tumblr media
We still haven't paid into the pension system :smiling_face_with_tear: This payment can be made monthly, but you get a bit of a discount if you pay for a year up front (short for money, jp govt?).
So that's about 200,000 yen. Just gone.
It's just me and 1.6 mil yen left…. okay…
Tumblr media
Did I mention there's a city tax? I haven't received it yet, but it's roughly 150,000 for Osaka city. Are you crying? Because I'm crying with my 1.5 million yen. Want to cry harder? If I were to convert this to USD, it's less than 10K for the year......
Tumblr media
And that 5 million yen from all my work last year is ABOVE AVERAGE. The average wage in Japan is currently 4.1 million before taxes... IS IT REALLY ANY WONDER PPL AREN'T HAVING CHILDREN?? I CAN BARELY AFFORD MYSELF LMAO
Tumblr media
There is one major difference between freelance and fulltime employees though. Companies will cover half of your pension and a certain percentage of your health insurance, so maybe salaried employees end with a 300,000 more in their wallets.
Tumblr media
But freelancers? This includes animators, comic artists, video editors, etc. Or people that aren't employed full-time?? We have to cover our insurance and pension.
Freelancers are really out here with no money.
Tumblr media
This is all to say, basically, working in Japan is a joke. Honestly the amount I pay for healthcare is too high for quality of care I receive most of the time and I'm not even sure I'll receive pension from the govt (because they have no money)
Tumblr media
Did i mention that pay into a separate retirement plan in the states because i do not trust the japanese govt?
XDDD i've moved beyond anger. i can only laugh at my circumstances.
Tumblr media
OH and japanese politicians have just been pocketing MILLIONS of YEN. YOU KNOW. THAT AVERAGE JAPANESE CITIZENS AMT IN YEARLY WAGES. THEY POCKETED THAT TASTY UNTAXED MONEY UNTIL THEY WERE EXPOSED A FEW MONTHS AGO
Tumblr media
So yeah, the cost of living in Japan is low, and seems affordable from the point of view of the US dollar. But when you work in Japan?? When you make money in yen?????

So last night I decided to go into my professional accounts to check that I wasn’t missing any Important notifications and was reminded of how my structured education is expiring soon and my bachelors was for naught and all that so naturally that turned into a semi manic panic wherein I desperately searched for options and the most convenient one I found is a 14 week online program with clinical placements nearby so I emailed them and went to sleep. I was feeling pretty normal again during the day with just taking things slow but I got an email back asking for an introductory interview and offering a 15% discount if I sign up within the next week and I know the game they’re playing but dangit they got me hook, line, and sinker. That’s almost a 600 dollar discount. I gotta. Sure I don’t currently have money to pay the rest rn but that’s a problem for future me (will probably just get a loan from family members or something). Anyway I scheduled a meeting for tomorrow (already a hectic day since I’m taking phlebotomy lessons 🤪) and am just gonna see how far my mania will take me. Maybe I’ll end up doing some form of clinical work 7 days a week for a while, that won’t exhaust me lol.

@alexlestar
was gonna respond on the post but i got wordy lmao, so below is the weird HOA/POA i grew up in
sooooo the town i grew up in was more of a resort community than a city (i think it was considered a village?? idk the post office still hates the name when i try to mail stuff) and when i was a kid the HOA (although i believe we called it a POA property owners assoc, cause at the time it was mostly vacant lots we didn't have neighbors for like the first 14 years lmao)
it was mostly vacation homes/retirees, the first 5 years we were there there were no kids besides my younger sister and i and a few people down the way, but now with the austin sprawl this place has grown, my father has one of the few vacant lots left, but it is next door to his house and keeps the view of the lake so he won't ever sell.
this is a lake community, it had a guard, and for a while you couldn't get in without having the sticker or being approved, it is no longer like that, but the POA paid for a ton of amenities, which at the beginning thats all it was there for, we were close enough to austin that things were still kinda artsy and stuff so no one worried too much about lawn lengths or cars in the yard.
But despite having the worst house in the whole community (and now it's even worse as my father has let it fall apart) i grew up getting to do really cool stuff because of the POA
we had a massive pool, it went to 11 feet, kids from the town over would try to jump the fence cause it was so awesome, a nice park, several boat ramps, a golf course that residents could golf for free, but had to rent the cart or pay a fee if you used your own, so we roughed it lmao, 3 tennis courts, a library (tiny and unmanned i used to do homework there so i didn't have to be at home lmao), a gym that was actually extremely high tech, a rentable conference room, and we got a discount at the floating restaurant and a discount on a boat slip (we had a sailboat which is why i know), but it was a 20 minute drive to get to the next town over, and it was small, 45 minutes to get to the closest HEB, the school was the 3 towns combined and even with that many my graduating class was like 64?
Back then it was the ideal POA/HOA like totally worth it, and if all hoas were like that i'd encourage the hell out of them. i think they got more picky but i havent lived there since 2012 and i don't really talk to my father
Here's the thing, that is not the norm...
Once i was an adult i've lived in multiple hoas, some silly rules (and these are the type where you have no amenities they exist to police you and thats it)
no cars in the driveway it was a $300 dollar fine!!
no holiday decorations with color, so no colored christmas lights, only the white ones
there was one that had a rule about windows being open
my ex husband's current neighborhood is trying to pass a no pick up truck rule, he is fighting that one
no more than 2 pets, so if you had 2 dogs and a cat you'd get fined if they found out
brown grass was fined (this was california too which is in constant drought and you are only supposed to water certain days)
no parties
you had to have the outside of your house powerwashed yearly and submit the receipt
one tried to ban children, we moved around that time so i don't know what happened, i'm assuming it did not pass
my absolute favorite was the one who had a no delivery rule, so you couldn't have amazon packages or take out delivered, i'm sure that went away in 2020 but we'd already moved

Tomorrow marks the second annual Salentines party. Salentines is the event of the century, it is a combination of Sal Vulcano from impractical jokers and Valentine’s Day. If you would also like the participate in this sacred ritual and spread the good word , here is how you properly venerate our lord of SALvation:
1) Aquire a cheap rice cooker and fill it with chocolate, use the cooker as a chocolate fountain to dip DRY strawberries and pretzels into. Use take out chop sticks as skewers if u are balling on a budget.
2) raid your local Walmart and dollar stores for discount valentines decorations, decorate your basement or equivalent cramped, grey space.
3) Make a 14 page (MINIMUM) google doc of photos of Sal, go to the library and print this off in COLOR, cut out the photos and use scotch tape to tape them all throughout ur basement ***** BONUS POINTS if ur basement Christmas tree is still up and u use the photos as ornaments
4) Find a large screen to watch YouTube on, search “Eating Watermelon With My Clone” and make ur guest watch the video and all of his other YouTube videos, this ritual is essential if u skip it, Sal will curse u with 6 years of poor harvests and infertility.
5) someone must perform a hand stand
6) Pass around a terrible tasting drink to everyone in the room, all shall drink from the communal cup to symbolize how we are united under Sal.
7) Post photos of the event on ur instagram and tag Sal, hoping the deity will aknowledge your loyalty, Chances are he will not acknowledge you, and yes, it IS your fault, next year must be better.
Sal will be extra pleased if you serve pasta SALad and SALsa.

Oh it’s definitely real, and Meghan calls herself “Meghan, The Duchess of Sussex” all the time 😬
I think it’s a bit funny that they’re doing a whole “the office of” because what is that office? It also looks cheap without he heading we’re used to seeing from royals, but I guess that’s where they are at the moment. The most tacky thing is that it appears to be a freebie they’re thanking for lmao
fr 😭 but what would be under the coronet? Archwell? ‘14 million dollar Montecito mansion they got heavily discounted from a Russian oligarch’?
ALSO the person who signed the letter is connected to San Ysidro Ranch.

Who is the worst?
Round 1: William Duer vs William Whipple
Tumblr media
William Duer (March 18, 1743 – May 7, 1799) was a British-born American jurist, developer, and financial speculator from New York City. A Federalist, Duer wrote in support of ratifying the United States Constitution as "Philo-Publius". He had earlier served in the Continental Congress and the convention that framed the New York Constitution. In 1778, he signed the United States Articles of Confederation and is one of the Founding Fathers of the United States.
Duer became a prominent speculator after the war; he was also elected to the New York General Assembly in 1786. When Alexander Hamilton, Schuyler's son-in-law, became first Secretary of the Treasury in 1789, Duer became the first Assistant Secretary. He continued to speculate in American bonds, including the failed Scioto Company scheme to buy up the American debt to France at a discount.
Duer went bankrupt as a result of the Panic of 1792, and was held in debtors' prison for the rest of his life. His failure has been cited as a cause of the panic, reportedly the first in New York caused by speculation. The loss was estimated at 3 million dollars and impoverished many in all classes.
William Whipple Jr. (January 25, 1731 NS [January 14, 1730 OS] – November 28, 1785) was an American Founding Father and signatory of the United States Declaration of Independence. He represented New Hampshire as a member of the Continental Congress from 1776 through 1779. He worked as both a ship's captain and a merchant, and he studied in college to become a judge. He died of heart complications in 1785, aged 55.
Whipple earned his fortune participating in the Triangle trade of the West Indies and Africa, with cargo such as wood, rum, and enslaved humans. He established himself as a merchant in Portsmouth in 1759, in partnership with his brother Joseph.

customer at work was like yeah i got two coupons i wanna use. so im like okay we can use those at the drive thru what can i get you. proceeds to order a black coffee and two chai lattes, right? simple. but shes like okay do the chais count for the coupons. i tell her yes as long as you get them in a 20 or a 24oz. and shes like well do they come in anything smaller. and i say yes but then you cant use the coupons. and she argues with me.
i tell her she can get the 16oz chai latte but her coupon wont work. and she has the audacity to be like well why not? its still chai. ma'am we dont have chai-specific coupons. so she relents and gets the 20oz chai lattes.
then at the window shes like can i also get two ice waters. so i ring in two ice waters and her coupons and all that. and then she argues about the price with me. shes sitting there doing the math for how much her chai lattes and her black coffee cost and subtracting the discount and its just not adding up and i tell her ma'am you ordered two waters. those are a dollar each. and she looks appalled that i would charge her money for water.
by this point its so late in my shift we havent been able to get a single thing done because we've been busy enough to warrant a third barista but it was just me and another barista there. and i could not fucking handle some dumbfuck customer arguing with me about the price of water i simply couldnt. so i just rung up her coupons and give her the total and she gives me the wrong amount of money. she gives me like $5 for her $14 order. i tell her ma'am you still owe $9. and she says no i dont i dont want to pay that much. HELLO??
i tell her well alright keep your money and i will just close this order and you can go to starbucks or something. i have never seen a woman so red in the face. she was sputtering. she was shocked and appalled. over some chai lattes and a coffee she didnt necessarily need to even buy. she hands me a $10 and we finish the transaction without another word. if you or someone you love have ever been a customer please consider repenting or something.

Note
Apologies if this has been previously asked, but what is the price going to be? Or at least, what could the price potentially be if it's not already set
No worries! At this time we're a little hesitant to definitively toss out what our price range will be, since a wide variety of factors can influence the "end game" cost and we don't want to inadvertently skew expectations with you guys this early on. What we can tell you, with reasonable confidence, is:
In order to get new content to you guys faster, we are unlikely to release the entire game all at once. Meaning, a year or so out from now, 1-2 individual routes may be released along with a refurbished prologue (e.g. CGs, more backgrounds/sprite expressions, finalized UI, maybe VOs or original scoring if the Kickstarter allows it).
This version of the game would be priced based on the content that presently exists within it, ergo a base price + 1-2 routes. Folks who purchase the game at this stage would then essentially end up downloading paid DLCs as new routes become available, meanwhile the "full game" price would gradually increase to account for the new content as it releases, which is what new players would pay. Once the game is 100% complete, it would remain at this final price for all new players. Everyone ultimately pays the same amount for the same content, but for early players, you'll pay less "upfront".
Rough example (ergo, non-definitive numbers): Let's say the base game plus the first two routes is 10 dollars. That's what initial players (excluding Kickstarter backers, who have already paid the pre-order cost) would pay. When the next two routes come out, maybe this price increases to 14 dollars, with existing, non-Kickstarter players paying $4 for the next two routes. This continues until the game is completely finished, at which point all future players would pay the full price.
With all this said: The full price, for 100% of the game, is unlikely to exceed $30 USD. We can't entirely discount it, but we want the game to be as affordable as possible, while still appropriately compensating the team. Hope this helps!

Disappointment Dissertation
With the launch of Overwatch2, I know everyone on the internet is jumping on the hate bandwagon. But I still wanted to get my thoughts into a cohesive argument. The short version is: I am so disappointed.
I have several chapters in mind, but the most shocking and yet not shocking one I wanted to do first as it literally affects every single player of the game.
Chapter 1
Part 1
The reason why they made these changes is very clear: Money. They can now force a majority of people to literally spend the same money on a yearly basis for a game that before, we only had to buy once. Even if you only buy the bare minimum of the new currency just for the battle pass and nothing else, you end up buying the the game for an even higher price on a yearly basis.
The Battle Pass Math
The game now requires a new “battle pass currency” that you must spend your real life money on to unlock everything from Overwatch2. The Legacy Coins from Overwatch can only be used to buy some items that existed pre-October release. Let’s break down the pricing.
(Battle Pass Currency shorthand will be a ‘c’ following a number)
500c = 5.00 (this is the least amount of currency you can buy)
1000c = 10.00
The premium battle pass cost is 1000c, or 10 real life (American) dollars. There will be a new battle pass roughly every 6-9 weeks. Let's take the fastest turnaround time per-pass to see the high end of what the true cost of Overwatch2 is.
~52 weeks in a calendar year
52/6 = 8.667, roughly 8 battle passes a year
8*10= 80
To unlock all the new content a year you will have to spend 80 dollars a year. Overwatch itself was 60 dollars flat and you never had to re-buy it. Discounting the “Watchpoint Pack” where you did rebuy the game but with 2 $20 skins included.
There is an option to buy 2000c and you get a “10% extra” where you get an extra “free” 200c for 20 dollars. To not overspend and only buy the 8000c required:
3 2200c packs: 20*3= 60$
1 1000c pack: 10$
1  500c pack: 5$ (and 100c left over that you had to buy even though you did not want it)
Total: 75$
Grand total savings: 5$
There is also the 50$ currency bundle for 5700c with a 14% “extra.”
1 5700c pack: 50$
1 2200c pack: 20$
1 500c pack: 5$ (with 400 left over that you had to buy even through you didn’t want it)
Total: 75$
Grand total savings: 5$
The extra bundles are the same “savings,” but with 100c or 400c extra that you were forced to pay for.
So the free to play game is 75-80 dollars a year to have access to the new content.
Part 2
The New Hero Math
BUT WAIT. The battle pass does not include all new content.
Yes indeed you read that right, even after spending 80 real life dollars, you only receive access to unlock the new cosmetics and in-game content on the battle pass. And yes, you read that right again, you do not give them money and get the content, you must grind and “unlock” the content you already paid for. It’s unclear to me if you do not unlock all levels by the end of the season, if you just get those items, or if that content (and your money) is dust in the wind and you get nothing that you failed to unlock.
“Regular” new character skins, highlights, emotes are all completely separate from the battle pass and cost money. You like that new Junker Queen skin? It’s extra. Want that Sojourn highlight intro? It’s extra.
(I am excluding “souvenirs” and “weapon charms” as these might be 1 time unlocks that you can use for all heroes after being paid for once and also I have no clue what the hell a “souvenir” is or why anyone would want to spend money on it and I’m sure as hell not spending money on them to find out)
All three new heroes appear to have the exact same spread of cosmetics with minor variations. Any cosmetics that appear on either the free or premium battle pass I have excluded from these price totals. I’m unsure if these are battle pass locked, meaning if you don't get them on the pass you will never be able to unlock them. Or, if at a later date, they will become “unlocked” and buyable like their rest. Which will increase the base price to fully unlock a new hero, only time will tell at this early point in the game’s launch.
Cosmetic Discrepancies:
Sojourn has 1 epic skin and 10 sprays (one less of each than both her counterparts)
One of Kiriko’s legendary skins is currently free for watching Twitch streams but will be paywalled in battle pass season 2
2 of her recolor skins are listed as locked and not purchasable and do not appear on the battle pass track. Possible glitch? Maybe part of a “bundle” in the shop that I don’t see and/or is rotating?
2 Legendary skins (1900*2= 3800)
2 Epic skins (1000*2= 2000)
4 Recolors (300*4= 1200)
Total Currency For Skins: 7000c
4 Emotes (500*4= 2000)
3 Victory poses (300*3= 900)
10 Voice lines (100*10= 1000)
11 Sprays (100*11= 1100)
2 Highlight intros (700*2= 1400)
Total Currency For “Other” Cosmetics: 6400
Grand Total To Fully Unlock ONE New Character: 13,400c  (135$ real American dollars)
Part 3
The Grand Total and the Future
If you are looking to unlock only the new Overwatch2 characters and the battle pass season 1 your total is:
(3 x 135) + 80 = $485
FOUR HUNDRED AND EIGHTY FIVE DOLLARS JUST TO UNLOCK THE NEW CONTENT.
I shudder to think what the cost to unlock the entire cast of heroes is since they have 6 years of cosmetics banked. No. I’m not going to go through each hero to run their prices and get a grand total, I want to keep what’s left of my soul.
And this also does not include any possible “seasonal” event content. The first being the “Wrath Of The Bride” Halloween event. There appears to be 3 new (no doubt legendary, another staggering $50 just for those three skins if you buy that currency bundle) skins for Junker Queen, Kiriko, and Sojourn. Ashe was included in the promo art in her Warlock skin which is not new, unless they have changed something and will charge us again for a recolor of it.
As these Halloween skins do not appear on the current battle pass track, I believe it’s safe to assume any and all “event” content will never be free or part of a battle pass “bundle.” This could change in the future, but I don’t see a financial reason for them to do so.
Absolutely gobsmacking. The cost just for launch day cosmetics makes me numb.
I honestly can’t see how this could be sustainable at these price points. $20 dollars for one hero’s single legendary skin. $7.50 for a three second highlight intro. It’s insane! And what makes it worse, is there is no “grind and hope” option.
In Overwatch, you were rewarded for grinding out levels with lootboxes. If you didn’t want to pay for new cosmetics, you could grind and hope you got what you wanted in loot boxes. Or, save your acquired coins and buy them that way.
My suggestion would be to bring back lootboxes in a limited capacity. Because the company is in the middle of a money hungry cash grab, yes, you should be able to buy them. But, after say 2-3 battle pass levels, you got a “free one.” It would reward the free track players to keep grinding (since 75% of the battle pass items are paywalled) as well as paid track player with extra content and currency to unlock non battle pass items. Obviously, paid battle pass items could not appear in loot boxes (until a later date if those items became unlocked) so it would not interfere with the push for people to pay for the battle pass.
And it would be critical for brand new Overwatch2 players to be able to have anything other than the base skin.
In conclusion, I’m disappointed about how naked the cash grab is. And I’m angry that they are not even doing the naked cash grab well.
If Blizzard had any sense at all, they would have kept the loot boxes, temping people to try their luck, and been a smidgen more kind to their players. They would have stuffed the battle pass full of things the player actually want. They would have done skins, highlights, poses, charms and not voicelines, player icons, and “player cards” that are worthless fluff that could have gone into loot boxes to force us to buy both currency and loot boxes.
