Some facts about Betta I read:

- Betta splendens, or also known as siamese fighting fish, or betta, originates from Thailand.

- The betta is a freshwater fish and can be found in Southeast Asia (Thailand, Cambodia, Malaysia, Indonesia, Vietnam, Laos, Myanmar).

- Initially Betta were bred for aggression, they were used for gambling fights.

- They are highly territorial and will attack one another to death (, female betta can be territorial too).

- Betta have a labyrinth organ, which allows them to breathe air

- Hence why they are tolerant of low oxygen levels
