Get To Know Me!
@foxofninetales tagged me in this ask game and since I LOVE HER i will now be doing it (i mean i’d do it anyway but now it will be filled with love for FOX i am not accepting CRITICISM ON THIS POINT)
Part I
name: Brigid! I’m named after the Irish goddess of like, poetry, healing, smithcraft, and protection, or the Irish saint (they’re both pretty similar it’s just whether or not you’re talking about Celtic religion or Catholicism). She’s very cool, and I think it’s a very fitting name for who I turned out to be!
pronouns: she/her
star sign: i’m an insufferable theatre kid of course I’m a Leo
height: 5'8″ babeeeyyy (172 cm). I’m not short like, at all, but all of my family members are over six foot, so I’m like. tiny in comparison. they all make fun of me all the time for it :(
time: 8:49pm! A delightful time of evening!!!
birthday: July 31st, same day as Harry Potter lol.
nationality: american :P
fave bands/groups/solo artists: hnnnngggghhhh why would u ask me this I don’t KNOW jk i just have a lot uhhhhh all time faves would be Bastille and Mumford and Sons, but I’m SUPER into kpop right now, so my top groups are BTS, Stray Kids, and One OK Rock (who are technically jpop but I really like their stuff). I also am a Broadway BITCH (hello, theatre kid) so before this year all of my Spotify library was basically just show tunes.
song stuck in your head: Get Away by VeriVery. I think they’re a pretty new group? idk i saw them on one of those tumblr promotional things and checked out the music video which is like??? really interesting conceptually? so I’ve just been listening to the song for a while lol.
last movie you watched: Train to Busan! I’m gearing up to write a dmbj zombie apocalypse AU and so I was like “this is a popular zombie film! I’ll watch it for inspiration! :)” holy shit. holy shit i was so wrong. It’s one of the most viscerally affecting films I think I’ve ever seen, I was like. On the verge of an anxiety attack the entire time but in like the best possible way?? it’s a mastery of character introduction and action/horror and I cried for like the last ten minutes straight. SO affecting. I do NOT RECOMMEND IT if u are already made anxious by zombie apocalypse scenarios, blood, violence, and a Lot of Death.
last show you binged: hmmm uh like I’m currently watching Mystic Nine but at like a normal pace, so the last show I probably binge watched was maybeeee The Uncanny Counter on Netflix? HIGHLY recommend that one, I made @cross-d-a watch it and I’m living for her liveblog reactions lmao. Idk most of my free time has been spent writing the past few months which. After months of only having the energy to watch shows is kind of really invigorating? the things u can do when u fix ur health I’ll tell you what
when you created your blog: in 2012 asldighalsdkfjladskjga i came on here to like burdge’s pjo fanart :)
the last thing you googled: "is it bad not to have an air cap on your tire” ALSDIGHALKDFJLADFJA FUCK ME (i learned that it’s not necessarily bad but it can get dirt and stuff built up in there so I went to the store after work today and replaced it)
other blogs: everything is here bc i am too lazy to create a sideblog! so sorry to everyone who does not follow me for cdrama content bc this is all I am now.
why i chose my url: cause it’s my ao3 username and i wanted people to be able to find me more easily on tumblr! :) the long answer is because i love shakespeare and also i think that slut is a really funny word and concept for me especially because i am one of the most sexless people u will ever meet in ur life so slutspeare is like. an aggressively ace joke that only I think is funny.
how many people are you following: 588
how many followers do you have: ah just over 200?!??!!? which is like. a lot for me. I think it was like 75 up until like last year omg
average hours of sleep: my sleep app says I average around eight! which is very good for me! I do have to get enough sleep consistently or I will Have A Bad Time so my sleep schedule is pretty good and luckily I don’t have the Insomnia depression I have the Sleep Lots one which I am glad for bc idk what I’d do if I couldn’t Be Unconscious regularly. Die probably.
lucky numbers: I don’t think I have lucky numbers?? my favorite number is 21 for no reason other than the vibes alone.
instruments: i’ve played the piano for uhhhh.... eighteen years now? and I can play the ukulele and am surprisingly good with the recorder since I’ve had to play it in Multiple Theatre Performances. I was also an honor choir singer back in high school so I’ve done a lot of select ensemble stuff which was super fun!
what i'm currently wearing: a Life Is Good long-sleeved t-shirt that says “Not All Who Wander Are Lost” that I got in a military surplus store like a million years ago and red Adidas athletic shorts that I found at the thrift store a couple weeks back
dream job: playwright! I just wanna be a playwright! playwriting is like drugs i literally go nuts for it
dream trip: I don’t know??? I don’t really like traveling tbh aslidhalkfdj umm I do want to see the grand canyon sometime before I die tho so maybe a road trip down there? I definitely like traveling solo so I’d probably just hang out with myself and drive and go to whatever places I want and see dumb tourist attractions and sing loudly in the car
fave food: CURRY i know i said eggs the last time it asked me this but I miss my local Indian restaurant I want to eat literal Platefuls of tikka masala at 12pm at the Indian buffet after my physics class again :(
top three fictional universe you'd like to live in: hmmm i don’t know, actually! probably one where I have Powers and could do Cool Hand Motions and make Lights Appear. If I were anywhere with like. An Actual World-Dooming problem tho I would not be helpful at all. I would just die. Besides, I already live in fictional universes half the time, I’m a writer!
Part II
last song: Basquiat by Pentagon! The music video is like. Very whumpy. So if you’re into that... the song’s also a bop
last stream: i don't watch streams very often, I just watch clips from them, cause those usually just give the best parts lol
currently reading: mmmmmbbbaaaaahhhhh literally nothing? I’m trying to get caught up on the backlog of dmbj fic I haven’t gotten around to so Binding by @vishcount is next on that list! oh I guess I’m also reading Johnny Tremain with my kids (one of them SPOILED THE END and I forgot how it ended and now I’m big sad).
currently watching: Mystic Niiiiinnnneeeeee! love those gay history bitches. everyone in that show is so funny. I just finished the Fuba Side Plot tho and now we’re back to Politics so i’m like >:( someone give zhang baby rishan a hug (and then i write angst about him what is wrong with me)
what is antipoetry to you: antipoetry??? what the heck is antipoetry hold on... uhhhh that’s just poetry. who came up with this term. i guess like lyrical fiction would be the technical correct definition but idk I consider anything to be poetry! like that’s the whole point! poetry is poetry is poetry as long as it’s focused on intensity and emotions it’s poetry! a haiku? poetry. the random one-lined mess of words on my phone? poetry. a literal drawing of a cardinal with the word “bird” written next to it? poetry. idk I’ve been trying to teach my kids that there are no wrong ways to write creatively; if you’re expressing yourself and making emotions, then you’re writing! also like half of my work could be considered antipoetry lmao. I love emotionally supercharging the mundane.
currently craving: i have noooo ideaaaasssss i’m literally just vibing. uh. water? ok i took care of that one my water bottle was right next to me.
AH IF YOU READ THIS MUCH THANK YOU???? i love u
uhhhh no pressure tags for @xia-xueyi, @nope4ever, @bookjoyworm, @elletromil, and @gaiahenshin, as well as anyone else who would like to give the full-rundown on themselves! :D

[Where My Twin Watches]: Full Metal Alchemist Brotherhood Episode 6
Road Trip! Since the Elric’s need repairs (mostly Ed, since normally I think he could fix most anything with his Alchemy, but without his arm he can’t do it), they’re off to visit Winry. Let’s get started!
Narrator’s talking about how Scar went after Ed, and how our little baby was ready to accept death (cue heartbreaking shot of Al struggling to get up and stop him), but Colonel Roy Mustang intervened (or rather, Riza saved the Colonel's life and The Mighty Armstrong distracted Scar). The Elric Brothers realized the joy of being alive and were filled with Determination and decide to head home for a patch job. Episode 06: “Road of Hope” About time we had an optimistic episode, these last few have been depressing as all getout. Camera pans over a train-station (what, no [chugga chugga choo choo] caption? You disappoint me, show), Hughes raps on the window to Ed’s car to get his attention. The rest of Eastern Command were tied up with work, so the Lt. Colonel came by in their place. Ed’s grateful, but- YESSSSSSSSS! The post-credits didn’t lie, The Mighty Major Armstrong is indeed “sharing” a bench with Ed. And may I say that the man cleans up nice, that is a snazzy suit. Hughes says that The Mighty Armstrong’s there for protection, in case Scar comes after him again. Ed’s in no shape to fight, and hey that’s a nice touch, showing Ed’s empty sleeve wave around when he takes offense at being called a child. Speaking of, where’s the little brother? Oh. Oh my Leto. You stuck him in a box with the sheep?! Why?! Ok ok, maybe a half-wrecked suit of armor wouldn’t really fit in among the other passengers. But sticking him with livestock? Really? “I thought he might get lonely without a little company. *sparkle*” ...you are just the most peculiar mix of sense and cluelessness, aren’t you Armstrong? I mean, you’re not wrong, but still. Sheep, dude. One final salute between the three, and the train’s off. Away through the picturesque landscape we go, Armstrong reading while Ed takes a nap. The train makes a stop, Ed’s just starting to wake up when Armstrong notices someone walk by the train and crushes Ed in getting out the window. A Doctor Marcoh? Marcoh… does not look very happy to see Armstrong, goes sprinting away. Look, I know the guy can be a bit bombastic sometimes, that’s a bit of an overreaction. Armstrong says that he’s a talented State Alchemist from Central, who was researching into possible medical applications of Alchemy. But after the Ishvalan Civil War, he went missing? Like, he defected, or retired? Ed insists on disembarking, as a doctor might know some useful things about bio-alchemy. Fingers crossed it doesn’t end up like the last bio-alchemist they visited. The State Alchemists are in the city now, seems Armstrong’s the one carting around Al In A Box. They’re looking for Marcoh by showing a picture of the man, one that Armstrong drew? I’m as surprised as Ed that Armstrong’s such a good artist. Strong, a skilled Alchemist, reader, and now an artist? Is there nothing that The Mighty Armstrong cannot do? Ah, of course, “the art of portraiture has been passed down through the Armstrong family for generations.” The townsman they’re questioning says it looks like a Dr. Mauro to him. All the town’s previous doctors got drafted for the Civil War, but afterwards Dr. Mauro came. Further interviews with the townsfolk are all positive, about how he’ll see anyone and heal them with a big flash of light. Sounds like alchemy to me. Ed and Armstrong (and Al, he’s been pretty quiet so far) arrive at a house, Ed goes to knock on the door- What the Leto, dude?! Ed just opened the door, and Marcoh shot at him! He stands there with gun shaking, ranting that he won’t go back, that they’re here to silence him. Armstrong tries to calm him down. Then when that doesn’t work he flattens him with Al’s crate, to Ed’s displeasure. Now the four are sitting around a table, Armstrong’s talking about how when Marcoh left he took top-secret material with him. So he did defect? Marcoh says he couldn't handle it anymore, order or no order to “dirty his hands researching that thing”... What “thing”? Ed has the same question. The Philosopher’s Stone! Houston, we have confirmation that it exists! Marcoh took his research documents, and the stone itself. Does he have it?! Uh, dude? That’s a vial of liquid. You understand the difference between a solid and a liquid, right? Oh. OH. “The Sage’s Stone, The Grand Elixir. The Celestial Stone. The Red Tincture. The Fifth Element” The Stone is supposed to ‘create’ a liquid that grants eternal life, isn’t it? Along with the whole “lead into gold” thing. Nobody ever said that it was a solid, did they? Marcoh’s saying that just as the Stone has many names (Ed, don’t poke it! That’s a highly powerful substance!) it can take on many forms. But it’s not a complete product? Ah, so this liquid is an imperfect Stone, amplifying power but still having a limit. Like Cornello’s Stone, able to amplify his power but still fracturing in the end. Ed seizes on this knowledge, demanding access to the research materials. Marcoh is taken aback, and further shocked when Armstrong explains that his “child” is a State Alchemist. He tries to explain how many State Alchemists turned in their certifications after the War, and now a child… Ed insists that he has no choice, that if it’s a mistake then it’s a mistake that he has to make. Now the doctor’s examining Al, remarking how incredible it was that Ed could transmute Al’s soul. Maybe Ed does have the skills to produce a complete Stone. But still, Marcoh refuses to show his research and continue the Devil’s research. Not even Ed exclaiming that he’s already been through Hell can change the doc’s mind, who finally asks them to leave. Sad faces all around, the three SA’s walking away while Marcoh sits on a bed and thinks over Ed’s last words. At the train station waiting for their ride, Armstrong asks why Ed didn’t take the Stone from the doc, even if it was incomplete. Ed says he wanted it, but he and Al agree that they don’t want it badly enough to deprive the town of their only doctor. Aw, they’ve still got their empathy! And hey, we know now that it’s possible to make different forms of the Stone, the Elrics’ possibilities have expanded considerably. At least some good’s come out of this. And Armstrong’s not going to report back to Central? “I met a simple, small-town doctor today. I can’t see any real reason to report that.” Good for you, Armstrong! Oh hey, Marcoh’s here! And he’s handing over a map to his materials? This day keeps getting better! Doc wishes them luck, hoping that they will be able to restore their bodies. ...ok, what’s the catch? Way too much is going right for our characters. Is Marcoh secretly evil, setting up an ambush with the Goths? Did he already destroy his research out of guilt from the War? Will they find it, only to decipher a recipe for Ovaltine? What’s the catch? According to the note, the research is stored in the National Central Library. That’s not a bad place, one book in what I assume is a huge library would be difficult. But they have a clue now! Marcoh gets home, sighs- aw crap! Lust! I was kidding about a Goth ambush earlier, don’t tell me he actually is working for them! Well. I’m guessing this is the last we’ll see of the poor doctor. Sorry buddy! Now we’re at a familiar house, Automail sign out front. Granny, who I guess is actually Pinako based on the captions but I’ll keep calling Granny, calls for Winry who’s working away at a desk. At a mention of their “best customer”, Winry looks up. Outside, Ed and Al are greeting Granny, who just asks what they’ve done now. A common occurrence, this? Ed introduces the Major as- hey, the dog has an Automail left leg! That’s a neat touch! Armstrong’s shaking hands with Granny, then she steps back and remarks that it’s been a while, but Ed’s gone and grown- smaller. Hah! Still getting in the height jokes, eh Granny? But why would she say something so clearly untrue? Ed starts shouting-
Seems like Ed needs to work on the Five D’s. Here’s Winry! Yelling about how Ed’s supposed to call first when he’s heading back for maintenance. Hey Winry, looking good! Still got the aim from Episode 2 I see. She’s happy to see Ed again, even as Ed grouses about his head.
Uh oh, Winry is no longer happy when she sees the damage to her work. “A little smashed up” is a bit of an understatement, Ed. Winry is shaking in fury over her creation- wow, really Ed? “It’s basically the same; it’s just in smaller pieces.” Yeah, like you’ll be if you don’t stop antagonizing your mechanic, Ed! Winry gives that line the only response she can, and while Ed groans on the floor she asks Al how he’s doing, what trouble they’ve gotten into. Then she goes and kicks the Giant Suit of Armor in the helmet, sending Al down with Ed. Yeah, I gotta agree with you Armstrong. Best to sit quietly and drink your coffee. Granny’s checking Ed over, seems he needs adjustments to his leg too. Cue height teasing from Winry. But the arm’s busted, that’ll have to be built from scratch. Ed asks if it can be done in a week, Granny asks for him to give them some credit, says three days. Three days to build a new mechanical arm? I like this setting! Until then, Ed’ll make do with a spare leg. Winry gripes a little bit about this taking three all-nighters, but says since they need to get to Central ASAP she’ll work her butt off for them! (Aw, Ed’s blushing!) She does expect a fortune in rush order fees. Outside- well, Armstrong appears to subscribe to the Steve Rogers School of Log Splitting.
And we are treated to some magnificent shots of Armstrong at work as Al sits quietly, watching chickens. Taking the wood inside (come on Granny, turn around. You don’t know what you’re missing!), Armstrong asks where Ed’s hanging, seems he’s gone to visit Mama Elric. Shots of peaceful village music and shepherds waving to Ed, as Granny asks the Major what kind of lives the brothers are living. Aw, you guys don’t even send them letters? Come on, stay in better touch with the Rockbells! Armstrong remarks how Ed and Al are well known for their Alchemy, even in Central. And sometimes that gets them in trouble. But they’re strong boys, and Granny agrees. Awwww! It’s a picture of the Baby Blonds! Baby Winry’s dragging a surprised Al and begrudging Ed in for a picture, a smiling Mama Elric and stoic Granny behind them. That’s adorable. Granny goes on to explain to Armstrong that she’s been watching them ever since they were born, as a friend of the family. Their absent father was even a drinking pal of hers! But one day he “up and left the village, abandoning his wife and sons.” Why? Granny doesn’t even know if he’s still alive. (Mysterious Father continues to be Mysterious. And there’s the picture of the Elric family, the dad’s face covered up. Rude.) Then Armstrong asks about Winry’s parents. Ah, so this is how it was done in the manga? We know from Brotherhood’s second episode that they died in the war, but I guess this is when Armstrong learns as the audience surrogate. We do learn that they both were surgeons. Granny mentions that it’s time for supper, overrides Armstrong’s polite refusal by saying that food tastes better with guests, and adding one more person won’t be any inconvenience. Then Armstrong asks about the house that the Elrics grew up in. It’s gone, since- wait, they burned it down? “My guess is they did it because with no house to come home to, there could be no turning back.” Later that night, Ed gets back- GAH! Emotional Armstrong! Moved by the tale of the Elric Brothers, The Mighty Armstrong embraces the poor boy, who struggles to escape as Al, Granny, and Winry look on. “What unyielding love to try and bring your mother back to life! *sparkle* What a tremendous sacrifice to give up your arm in order to transmute your brother’s disembodied soul! *sparkle* What determination to burn down your own house…! To make sure… there was no retreat! *sparkle sparkle sparkle* Come Edward! *strip* Allow me to offer you this comforting embrace!” “Just stay back! Don’t rub your chest on me!” ...stay awesome, Armstrong. Next morning Ed stumbles out of bed to a buzzing sound, sees Winry working away at her table. Ed heads over and compliments her working so hard in the morning- “Been up all night.” Later, heads over saying she must be almost do- “One more all nighter.” Next day, Ed skulks up, looks around curiously until Winry gets fed up and tosses him out. Al, Ed, and Robo-Dog are all outside resting on the grass, Al counseling Ed to be patient while the older brother waves his arm and legs in frustration at knowing there’s a clue out there. Then winry comes out, new arm all ready to go! Inside, Ed’s grimacing while Winry and Granny count down, grits his teeth when the new limbs are attached. Guess it’s painful for the nerves to connect like that. Ed’ll be happy to kiss that pain goodbye when they get the Philosopher’s Stone, Granny says she’ll be sad to lose her biggest source of income. Meanwhile Winry… has an Armstrong Moment over the perfection of her automail. “Crazy gearhead.” “You’re lost without me, alchemy freak.” Mechanical Engineering versus Chemical Engineering! Fight! Ed does some flexes, as Winry talks about how she used a higher percentage of chrome to prevent rusting. Nice, functional and decorative! Although it won’t be quite as strong, so he shouldn’t do anything too crazy- too late Winry, he’s already out the door to fix Al. Armstrong’s asking if Ed can really fix Al right there, Ed says he can do it, but he has to be sure not to mess up the symbol inside the armor that binds Al to it. One hand-clap later, and the Giant Fanged Suit of Armor is good as new! The brothers have a little practice spar, and agree to leave for Central first thing the next day. That night, Ed’s snoring away on the couch, Al griping that he’s sleeping with his stomach out again. Granny jokes that Al’s the older one, to which he just says that someone has to look out for Ed. Winry brings a blanket over, and we get established ages of fourteen for Al and fifteen for Ed. Man, how long has Al been trapped in that armor? So much of his life, stuck in metal. Winry remarks that someone as young and small as Al… can be used as a human weapon. Winry, that’s not funny! That’s depressing! I thought I told you to be funny again, show! Now Al’s formally thanking Winry and Granny, always welcoming them like they’re really family. And Ed may not say it, but he feels the same way. “Granny… Winry… thank you.” Yup, right there with you, Armstrong. Right in the feels. Ed and Al are heading out now, Granny’s there to see them off. Winry’s not, since she’s stayed up three nights in a row. Now that’s dedication to your craft. The State Alchemists make to leave, Granny tells the boys to come back for dinner sometime, and Sleepy Winry waves goodbye from the balcony. Ed turns away and rubs his head before waving back. Say goodbye to Winry directly, you fool! Eh, whatever. I’ll badger him about my ship later. Credits! Aw, that was a sweet episode, nice respite from the downers of the last few. I mean, it wasn’t completely sunshine, I’m pretty sure that Marcoh won’t be making another appearance and we had to revisit the absence of Papa Elric and Winry’s parents. But overall, very nice. And you’ll never hear me complain about more Armstrong. Next time! Wait, nevermind. Back to Sleepy Winry walking down the stairs, complaining that she slept through almost the entire day and now she needs to clean up after human-tornado Ed. Then she finds a screw? “Whoopsy?” Uh oh. Don’t tell me Ed’s gonna lose his arm again next episode? You do realize he’s getting into combat, right? Or does she? I mean, they don’t tell the Rockbells what they’re up to. Now, Next time! “Doctor Marcoh’s notes on the Philosopher’s Stone were indeed in the place he said. But nothing is ever that easy. Unfortunately for the Elrics the Enemy is always one step ahead, leading the boys ever deeper into the maze of “truth within the truth.” Next time, on Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood-” Episode 07: “Hidden Truths.” “The only way to reach the destination is to never turn away.”

Counterbalance || YesIsAWorld || enemies to lovers - motorcycle racing - ballet - implied/referenced homophobia - 44k Harry Styles loves two things: teaching ballet and racing motorcycles. Those two worlds collide when his greatest rival on the track, Louis “Tommo” Tomlinson brings his tiny siblings to Harry’s class.
Face Your Fears || SadaVeniren || a/b/o - mpreg - kid fic - implied/dubious consent - famous/ not famous - miscommunication - slow burn - angst - 92k Harry is a single father, pretending to be a beta after his alpha mated him and left him. He’s getting by just fine raising the twins when Louis walks into his bakery. Too bad him and Louis will never be a thing.
Latching Onto You || reminiscingintherain || famous/ not famous - 34k The one where Louis wants to book Harry Styles to perform at his best friends' wedding.
That's What I'm Here For || taggiecb || boss/employee relationship - age difference - farms - fluff - angst - friends to lovers - grief/mourning - depression - 46k Louis Tomlinson is a dairy farmer on a tiny farm in eastern Canada. His wife of nearly thirty years has left him and his children are all grown up and out of the house. Louis needs help running his business but has no idea where to even start looking. Luckily for him his children know just the man for the job.
(Something's Been) Hiding In My Heart || lululawrence || Sweet Home Alabama AU - exes to lovers - emotional hurt/comfort - mentions of miscarriage - implied mpreg - angst - 25k A Sweet Home Alabama AU where Louis comes home to finally get his divorce from Harry finalized so he can move on with his life. Alderford holds its own set of challenges when he returns, but by facing his past maybe he can find the healing he so desperately needs.
An Unbalanced Force || FullOnLarrie || divorce - miscommunication - 110k Harry has the rest of his life planned. Marriage. Career. Kids. Happily ever after. But sometimes plans don’t work out. That’s not necessarily a bad thing.
Fondre ton absence || scrunchyharry || amnesia - World War I - historical - 41k Harry had never really given much thought to the future. He preferred to let life steer him forward and to follow in the footsteps of Louis, his best friend from as far as his memory went, his lover, his everything. Louis knew better than he did what was good for him. It changed drastically when Louis was ripped away from him, drafted and sent to the front to fight in a war that Harry had always been sure would never reach him. Too young and too sickly to follow, Harry was left on his own for the first time in his life. When he thought things could not possibly get worse, Louis went missing at the Somme and was declared dead. While everyone buried and mourned him, Harry never moved on. If Louis were dead, he was sure that he would know it. Their lives were too entwined, he would know if half of his heart had died. Determined to find Louis, Harry did everything he could in his quest to be reunited with him, except prepare for the state Louis might be in. He did not prepare for the harsh truth he would have to face: was love possible without memories?
The Post-War BP || jaerie || a/b/o - mildly dubious consent - dystopia - post-war - mpreg - 17k The eight year war has left the country's birthrate severely stunted with a lack of virile alphas left to bring it back up. To ensure the survival of the country, the government opens The Breeding Program where young omegas can apply to carry an alpha's child in exchange for benefits. Louis' family is struggling and the BP is one of the only ways to secure a roof over their heads. Harry was drafted at the age of eighteen and spent six years of his life defending a country he doesn't recognize when he returns home. The government made the bed but it's Harry that has to lie in it.
Graphic design is my passion || FullOnLarrie || college/university - mutual masturbation - 6k Graphic design student Louis Tomlinson has exams to study for and final art projects to complete, if it would stop raining long enough for him to walk across campus. Luckily Harry Styles has an umbrella, and he’s perfectly willing to share. Louis doesn’t plan to get his heart broken and he doesn’t plan to make almost a hundred silicone dildos. One of these things definitely happens.
Fiction Romance || rougeandtonic || collge/university - blind date - misunderstandings - 17k Harry has a type. He likes older, sophisticated, mature men. Well-educated men. Men with life experience and passion for arts and social causes. Men who are established in their careers, who've sorted their lives out. Niall knows this. And so Harry can't understand why he's sat here opposite Louis Tomlinson. A punk Louis/uni Harry blind date AU.
Flawless || Throwthemflowers || strangers to lovers - injuries - angst - hurt/comfort - 25k After a debilitating surgery, former concert pianist Harry Styles isn't able to come to terms with his new reality. Sundered from his high standards of performance, Harry can't seem to feel anything anymore, except perhaps interest in his favorite coffee shop's barista, a man who seems wholly unsuited for the job and whose blue eyes hold in them the same pain that Harry struggles with every day. When fate renders them more than mere acquaintances, Harry is forced to deal with the insecurities of his condition and his stubborn pride. Louis wants to love him, but Harry can't accept that, because he can't accept himself. And besides, he's never loved. He doesn't know how. He just wants to be able to play his piano like before, because it was safe, because at its keys he could control the roiling of his heart and funnel it into music. With love, things are much too risky. Why would he ever take such a chance?
Snow Big Deal || FullOnLarrie || smut - 8k Louis is a professional snowboarder set to appear in ESPN The Body Issue and Harry is an assistant photographer working for the magazine. They have more in common than they think.
The Way Her Body Moves || dimpled_halo || Girl Direction - friends to lovers - 2k “Need help?” Harry jumps, her eyes widening as she drops the manual. She puts her hand to her chest, breathing deep. Her eyes meet Louis', her gorgeous co-worker who’s stationed in the office right next to hers. Harry has the biggest crush on her. She and Louis started working at the company the same day, right after New Year’s, and it’s been torture being around such a pretty person. Harry has caught herself multiple times staring at her, the way she talks with those soft glossy lips of hers, and her eyes. God, those dreamy blue eyes are embedded in Harry’s brain. She dreams about those damn eyes every night, she swears. Louis clears her throat, shaking Harry out of her thoughts. As much as she’s tried to get this chair together on her own, she needs the help. Harry was barely able to lift the backside of the chair by herself.
O! Yes! || homosociallyyours || a/b/o - omega/omega - sex toy store - 2k Louis is a somewhat sexually awkward omega into other omegas. When an omega-centric sex shop opens near his favorite coffee shop, he definitely doesn't plan to check it out. He hated working there, and he definitely didn't want to agree, but it was too good of an offer to be turned down. Obviously I can't prove it's from him, but they seem to have his scent. I could be wrong though." "Wow," Liam said, looking deep in thought. "That's old school." "What's old school?" Niall asked. "Giving creepy gifts?" "I've never known an alpha to do it, to be honest, but he's courting you." Louis couldn't contain his look of disbelief directed at Liam. "He's courting me. He's impulsive and stupid and childish and probably the last person in the world who should be allowed to run the Food and Beverage department at the Clouds Westminster, however many brilliant ideas he has and seems to manage to miraculously pull off. Confessions of an Attention Addict
Hello again, old friend. It’s been too long. Let’s catch up.
Usually people say that as a means of politely begging forgiveness for their inability to maintain a relationship with no intention of actually following through. Right now, I need to follow through and catch you up on what’s been going on for nearly thirteen years now. It’s not an easy story for me to tell, but I promise there’s a happy ending. Grab a cup and let’s do this.
Depression, Addiction, and Cognitive Dissonance
Ignore the dramatic headline, I already told you there’s a happy ending.
I didn’t realize how addicted I’d become until maybe 2016. I suppose that’s normal; most addicts don’t jump head-first into dependency. It creeps up on you. Back in 2005 I wrote a lengthy song about addiction to caffeine and beer that seemed to resonate with some people, but I was never addicted to either. My drug was more pernicious. I’ve been mainlining the same publicly-accepted drug since I was a kid, in fact: Attention.
Tumblr media
So when the podcast wave of 2005-2008 carried me to a magical land with no day job, I was ecstatic. Attention came easier than coke in Miami. The Furries also took me in as their star performer and, finally, I found myself touring the nation. Every time I looked out into a dark ballroom to see hundreds of people singing my songs back to me, I felt the kind of rush that makes addicts forget to eat or sleep. The peak of this attention— which we’ll lovingly refer to as “rock bottom” —was probably Anthrocon 2013.
Fuck, Runtt and I looked good on steadicam.
But that was the beginning of the crash. Podcasting and live streaming went from the hot new technology with a tight-knit community to everyday background noise. The Furry fandom got tired of seeing me and my amazing bald companion at every convention, but I wasn’t ready to let go. I had tasted that high and I wanted more.
Tumblr media
From 2012 right up until 2017 I kept grasping for that attention-high only to have it dissolve in my fingertips. I tried everything I could think of– writing songs about trendy geek topics, spicing up the live shows with Sci-Fi themes, but no one outside a small core of followers seemed to know who I was any more. The high just couldn’t reach that 2013 peak, and I couldn’t face a future without all that glorious attention.
Fortunately the path downhill was paved with lyrics. My last foray into the world of piano rock emerged in June 2017. I’m still proud of Cognitive Dissonance, even if it reminds me of just how depressed I’d been for that half of the decade. Like most folks fighting their demons, it holds up a whimsical façade and a veneer of optimism, but everyone can see the darkness within.
Thank God I had a strong, steady man in my life all this time, I’m not sure how I would’ve fared without him.
It got to the point, near the end of 2017, when I just stopped booking shows. I stopped blogging and sending you emails. I would sit at my desk in the morning and stare at the screen with no clue what to do. Wasn’t I creative enough to make people pay attention any more? Wasn’t I good enough to be the center of attention again? Shit needed to change, and fast.
So we moved to Seattle, but that’s another story.
As I packed all of my belongings, I realized there was a lot I needed to throw out… first and foremost, my addiction to attention. But what would that leave me with? I had to redefine my identity in a way that was both healthy and sustainable. I had to ask myself a difficult question: Why did I get into this business in the first place?
An Apology to the Robot Army
People still ask me if I’m ever going to release another piano rock album. I know, if you’re reading this, it’s probably because you saw me on stage at a convention banging on a keyboard, not spinning turntables. The only answer I can give you is gonna sound like a copout: Maybe.
EDM wasn’t that far of a leap for me, to be honest. The event that sparked my love for making music was a single night with a piece of gear that plugged into my digital piano. If you want to hear that story, let me know and I’ll spin up another blog post. Suffice it to say, however, that I probably should’ve gone into electronic music genres right from age 12. No matter what, I never ever should’ve dabbled in Christian pop (sorry, Mom). But I’ve already made a major genre-shift once before, and I needed to now.
I had to decide if I was going to die on the hill of piano-geek-rock or retool the factory to make a product that would actually sell.
(Spoiler: I did not, in fact, die.)
You see, part of the healing process was what I call “retooling the factory.” When a company makes a product (let’s say 8-track tape decks) and the world starts listening to cassettes, they have to decide what their product is going to be. Actually, to be more specific, they have to decide what their identity is going to be… an 8-track deck company, or an audiovisual gear company? I mean, there are always going to be 8-track enthusiasts, but do we cater to that niche or change our product? Why did we get into this business in the first place?
Tumblr media
And here’s where we swing back around to that pesky attention addiction of mine. In this business, attention is both a drug and the primary source of income. What a fucking dilemma, huh?
On one hand, the need for attention is an unhealthy way to gauge one’s self-worth. On the other, it’s the primary indicator for how well a performing artist is doing.
It took a lot— a lot –of soul-searching to realize dance music could decouple my addiction from the real business necessity of growing my audience again. Switching my primary instrument from keys to turntables made it easier for me to get out of the way and let the music itself be the center of attention.
And Avian Invasion was born. You should go check him out… more on that at the end of this long-ass update.
So, for those of you asking if I’ll get back into piano rock… I want you to understand that I cherish you greatly. I love you. I want to make the music that made you happy back then, I really do. The hard business truth is that there simply weren’t enough people like you to keep me in business. More important than that, though, I am once again engaged in the creative process. I don’t think I’ve been this focused on making music since the early days of Matthew Ebel dot net
I won’t say that another piano rock album will never happen, but right now Avian Invasion is the only thing on my radar. The Bird, effectively saved my life. I hope you can appreciate that, at least.
Now What?
Here’s where you, a part of my beloved Robot Army, come in.
I need you to go and show your support for Avian Invasion. Remember, Bird One saved my life. Without him, I’d still be staring at that blank screen wondering why I even bother to try any more. Like Leeloo Dallas, he needs your love to survive, just as I always have. And I need him. Please go to avianinvasion.com right now and do… the usual stuff: Add him on Spotify, Like him on Facebook, etc. There are icons on the website and you know what they do.
Matthew Ebel will still be here, updating you on the behind-the-scenes side of things. If you want to peek behind the bird mask and explore this new frontier with me, I’ll try to share as much as I can with you. In fact, I’ll be spending the summer building my own recording studio from scratch, and this is where I’ll be sharing photos and videos and blogs about the experience.
Maybe this decade will be one to celebrate.

end of the year ask thing!: 1,7,10 and 11?
Ooh thank you!!!
1 - First things first, did you have a good year?I think I did, actually!! Especially recently now that I have an actual job. I started therapy again back in like may, started having an actual schedule again and yeah, winter kinda sucked for me bc of seasonal depression/having no money because I went off centrelink, but I also went to Paris! And to London to spend some time with my best friend who lives over there, which was really really fun!
7 - which fashion trends did you love?
Uhh I actually don’t really follow fashion trends, but I will say that this year I’ve finally started to start dressing closer to how I want. Like I wore a suit to my sister’s engagement party, bought a button up shirt a few months ago and I got some more when I went Christmas shopping that I’m really excited to wear because I’ve really been wanting some more recently. But that’s just me, I don’t know what was popular this year for everyone else!
10 - What song sums up this year?
Oh boy. Hold on, I’ll check spotify because I honestly don’t remember what I listened to the most!
Hmm, I don’t really have any songs that sum up the whole year, but I think Guiltless by Dodie is sorta relevant to stuff I’ve been thinking about lately. Idk I’m in the process of healing/moving forward so it’s just an important song to me
11 - What album has come out and been on heavy rotation since then?
Well technically One of the Horde came out this year, and that’s definitely been something I’ve been listening to on repeat since the AH musical came out and I checked out 1551, but I didn’t listen to it when it first came out. Maybe AH the musical then? But I don’t really listen to the full album, only a few songs.
OOH actually though, just remember the RWBY vol 6 soundtrack came out this year!! That was DEFINITELY on heavy rotation. Other than that though, I don’t generally tend to keep up with artists enough to know when they drop a new album/I usually only like a few songs from any bands/artists, not whole albums.
Thank you so much for this ask!! Sorry it took me a bit, I had to think a lot for some of these

Snow Patrol's Gary Lightbody on depression and the fear his fans would 'run away' The rocker talks to Saeed Saeed ahead of Dubai Jazz Festival and admits he is 'the last person you want to speak to if you want a jazz education'
Many successful artists will tell you it is the years of struggle that are ultimately the most fruitful and rock group Snow Patrol have, perhaps, tasted it more than their peers.
They spent the first ten of their 25 years confined to a small yet dedicated fan-base in their native Northern Ireland and the rest of the UK.
It was only with the success of their third album, 2003’s brilliant Final Straw, and its dynamic one-two punch of barrelling rocker Splitting Games and the monumental power ballad Run, that the group found international success.
Three years later, the Grammy Awards and years of international arena tours beckoned (including a sell-out Dubai show in 2012) courtesy of their big selling album Eyes Open and the runaway hit Chasing Cars – also known as ‘that Grey's Anatomy song’.
The band’s trajectory may have plateaued somewhat these days, yet they still have enough pull to support the likes of Ed Sheeran in his run of US stadium shows earlier this year.
Affable frontman and guitarist Gary Lightbody likes it this way, he says, as it keeps the ego in check.
“Not that I don’t have one, because if you are on stage playing to thousands of people every night then of course you will get an ego,” he says.
“But it is not a toxic or corrosive one. I think if we had that early success we would have been done as a band by now, because we simply weren’t ready for it. The fact that it took 10 years gave us an appreciation of what it means to be successful and appreciate what I have now.”
The most personal album yet Lightbody says that their UAE return at the Dubai Jazz Festival is part of their first world tour in six years, a period he essentially spent pottering around the house.
“It was kind of daunting to get back on the tour bus and not feeling settled again,” he says.
“I kind of got used to being off the road and living a more sedate life, and I was kind of worried that I wasn’t going to like being on tour. But within the first two minutes of the first show I felt ‘this is what I should have been doing all this time. I remember this.’”
But that’s not to say the years off the road was anything but calm. Idle hands welcome unpleasant thoughts, and Lightbody spent that time battling his depression and addictions.
It all made for last year’s album, Wildness, to be their most personal yet.
Although Lightbody’s lyrics often focused on the nuances of relationships, Snow Patrol’s first album in seven years has the microscope focused on himself.
With tracks such as the U2-ish Don’t Give In, a plea to work through the hardships of depression, and Heal Me, a tribute to a friend who got Lightbody of the booze, Wildness is a testament of survival and, ultimately, hope.
These are all emotional themes that Lightbody wasn’t sure the fans were ready for, especially after being away for so long.
“I didn’t know how it was going to be received,” he says.
“I was wondering if the people would kind of run away from my madness and if people would never speak to me again if I showed them my true self. But then I realised that everybody goes through these things.”
Lightbody is reminded of that that regularly.
Ever since the album’s release, the band has been receiving letters – “actual letters”, he beams – where fans detailed how the album has got them through their own travails.
“It means a lot to me and it definitely changed the way I write now,” he says.
“I don’t necessarily have to write about the darkness all the time but, instead, to just always be completely honest and not be afraid of bearing myself any more. It’s the thing that caused me the most grief in my life, like hiding my depression. It’s just not worth it.”
Hanging out with Ed Sheeran Part of that new open approach to life is Snow Patrol accepting varied touring offers, such as tagging along to Sheeran’s run of massive US shows.
It was a chance for Lightbody to see how the Shape of You singer, one of the most in-demand artists in the world, operates under such circumstances.
“Ed is like you imagine him to be, that’s the best way to describe him. He is extraordinarily friendly and down to earth” Lightbody says.
“I would see this a number of times in that he would go into a room and shake everyone’s hands and say ‘Hello, I am Ed.’ He would chat and spend time with people. He is the same person that I met seven or eight years ago, before his meteoric success.”
s the Dubai Jazz Festival really jazz? Performing in a stadium of 40,000 teenagers is one thing, but headlining a jazz festival is quite another.
While laughingly admitting that he is certainly “the last person you want to speak to if you want a jazz education,” Lightbody says the Dubai event is part of growing trend of such festivals with eclectic line ups, with Switzerland’s Montreux Jazz Festival being a prime example.“But it’s nice to be associated with a jazz festival regardless,” he says.“Matter of fact, I would love to play in a jazz festival if our band was actually jazz. I don’t know, I think we would be booed off the stage. I like to get into these scenarios sometimes. I think it will be fun.”Snow Patrol will perform at the Dubai Jazz Festival on Wednesday, Dubai Media City Amphitheatre. Doors open at 6pm. Tickets begin from Dh350 at www.dubaijazzfest.com

Noise Exclusive: Discover Boy Becomes Hero And Their Compelling Feature-Heavy Concept Album ‘Escape Artist’
Tumblr media
Surprisingly, metalcore concept albums aren’t generally something you hear all that often. Sure, there are a handful of releases that come to mind but it’s certainly not as common as it should.
Looking to change that and add to last year’s semi-autobiographical LP Reverie is Michigan-based band Boy Becomes Hero.
Set to release their new 10-track effort Escape Artist September 25th, founding member Andrew Brittingham is ready to continue the absorbing account of Amatera.
“Escape Artist is a story that follows Amatera (the antagonist from Reverie), a man who is lost in an ever-changing mental state,” explains Brittingham. “His story begins at a breaking point for change, misled by a corrupt leader, resulting in a devastating loss. Cast out to sea, Amatera finds himself captive by a Siren's song. With the help of Ninjen (Garret Rapp) and Ajna (Jonny Craig), our hero is able to heal and plan an overtaking of the Siren's ship in order to find restitution.”
Giving listeners their first look into the new captivating release, Boy Becomes Hero is teaming up with The Noise to share opening tracks “Efficacy” and “Flexibility.”
Commenting on the subject matter behind the hard-hitting tracks, Brittingham states, “‘Efficacy’ and 'Flexibility' take a deep dive into one of my lowest moments. Not wanting to exist, feeling like a burden. Starting to learn that some relationships are worth giving up when they become toxic enough to ruin your quality of life.”
To check out the first of many honest and raw singles from Boy Becomes Hero’s forthcoming LP as well as our deep dive into Escape Artist with Brittingham, be sure to see below. Afterward, for more from the band, head here.
youtube
For those who are new to the project, how did Boy Becomes Hero get started? And how did you link up with artists like Garret Rapp and Kurt Travis?
Andrew Brittingham: Boy Becomes Hero actually started out about 10 years ago now as just myself and an acoustic guitar... but we don't talk much about that [laughs]! Back in 2018, after getting a full year of sobriety under my belt, it was really time to buckle down and prove to myself that I could still write music and write a song again. Well that one song turned into 10 pretty quickly. The story is, I began to write and the message I wanted to share wasn't something I felt was acceptable to keep to myself. After reaching out to Garret Rapp, Kurt Travis, Aaron Gillespie and Sam Kohl and letting them know what the project was for, they were quick to hop on board. It's been an amazing experience. I've had the opportunity to create friendships with some of the people I've looked up to for years.
Escape Artist, [on the other hand], has a whole new team of people though with Garret returning again. That makes this album even more exciting than the last!
Boy Becomes Hero also works closely with To Write Love On Her Arms to raise awareness for depression, self-harm, addiction, and suicide. What led you to work with Jamie Tworkowski and his company?
TWLOHA has always been close to my heart. One of their shirts, oddly enough, was one of the first pieces of apparel I bought at a show as a kid. Their mission statement is exactly what we need in this world. It's too often and common that we struggle with life and don't have anyone we feel comfortable to talk with. Sometimes just sharing your own story is enough to help someone else feel comfortable to open up and share as well. I think Jamie and I both see that and that's what I'm here to do -- share my story in the hopes that more people know that they aren't alone no matter what it is they may be struggling with most.
As for your music, your upcoming album Escape Artist serves as a prelude to 2019′s Reverie and is a concept album with a pretty interesting cast of characters. Can you dive into the new record and the story behind it?
Escape Artist is a story that follows Amatera (the antagonist from Reverie), a man who is lost in an ever-changing mental state. His story begins at a breaking point for change, misled by a corrupt leader, resulting in a devastating loss. Cast out to sea, Amatera finds himself captive by a Siren's song. With the help of Ninjen (Garret Rapp) and Ajna (Jonny Craig), our hero is able to heal and plan an overtaking of the Siren's ship in order to find restitution. The end of this album ties right into “Abstraction” from Reverie.
A deluxe edition will be available next year with a few songs re-imagined from Reverie, where our characters from both albums' stories collide. Escape Artist is kind of a horror album; you'll really be able to hear that. It makes its way musically with our characters moving from dark to light. Jonathan Gearing jumping on board this time really steps things up a notch with the programming and Andreas Magnusson really killed it with the mix. There's a whole lot of Garret on here too. I can't wait for everyone to really dig into this.
Tumblr media
How challenging was it to tie Escape Artist all together with the story as a whole?
Honestly, getting Escape Artist to tie into Reverie was just the natural progression. As the albums are semi-autobiographical the material flows very smoothly and easily. Ensuring continuity is probably one of the most difficult tasks, but makes it a lot of fun.
Rounding out 2020, what does the rest of the year have in store for Boy Becomes Hero?
2020 still has a lot to come. “Flexibility” is just the tip of the iceberg here. There's a lot of content on the way. The full album is slated to release September 25th. An Instrumental version of the album is on its way as well.
