MIAMI - Rubin Stacey was lynched on July 19, 1935. Historians say his death is the only lynching on record in Broward County.
Tumblr media
Rubin Stacey was not only lynched, but he was also shot 17 times, and tied to the back of a car and dragged according to his great-great niece Tenille Brown.
She says there are many stories as to why Stacey was lynched, "He went and knocked on the door asking for work. She invited him in, and he cut her with a pen knife," Brown said. However, she also asserts there are reports that Stacey may have never gone to the woman's home at all.
Ken Cutler, a City Commissioner for the city of Parkland and a historian, was used in the Rubin film. He says the climate during the time of Stacey's murder was tumultuous.
"The Civil Rights Act didn't occur until the 1960s so at the time, everything was segregated. Blacks were on one side of town, whites were on the other side of town. There was a lot of racial tension," said Cutler.
The film Rubin was about getting to know who Rubin Stacey was, beyond just his tragedy.
"He was a family man. Somebody who was always involved with family. Spent time with his wife. He spent time with his son," said Brown.
He also loved to fish. Brown says her aunt Anne Naves, lived in the house with Stacey and was eight at the time of his death. It wasn't something the family spoke about often as it brought on a lot of shame.
However, now they're speaking about it in hopes to tell the full scope of history, especially at a time in Florida when challenges to the teachings of Black history are being called into question.
"This idea of trying to rewrite what actually happened. Now is the time for people that understand what truth is to stand up and get that truth out," said Cutler.
Another important part of this film was the teaching about what lynching is. Commissioner Cutler explained that it's not just the hanging of someone from a tree it can also mean tying someone to the back of a car and dragging them.
Ultimately those involved want to continue to educate despite what's happening in our state. A two-mile stretch of Davie Boulevard has been renamed Rubin Stacey Memorial Boulevard.

A nine-year-old girl who had a neighbor call the police on her as she worked to eradicate invasive insects from her home town has earned honors from one of the US’s most prestigious universities.
The 20 January gathering also recognized Bobbi for bestowing her personal collection of lanternflies to Yale’s Peabody Museum, which entered the collection into its database and listed the child as the donating scientist.
Bobbi, who is Black, unwittingly touched off a national discussion about the sometimes mortal danger associated with racial profiling on 22 October, when a neighbor called the police on her as she used a homemade repellant spray of water, dish soap and apple cider vinegar to kill spotted lanternflies feeding on trees near her home.
Lanternflies are invasive pests which are native to Asia and harm trees in a variety of ways, including by sucking their sap and causing holes through which harmful substances can then enter them. Scientists – whose ranks Bobbi has long dreamed of joining – advise people to kill the insects to protect the environment.
Yet that day, police stopped and questioned the girl whose loved ones have nicknamed “Bobbi Wonder” after being summoned by a neighbor who considered the girl a suspicious person.
“There’s a little Black woman walking, spraying stuff on the sidewalks and trees,” the caller told police, CNN reported. “I don’t know what the hell she’s doing. Scares me, though.”
The caller later reportedly apologized to Bobbi’s mother, Monique Joseph. But, with research showing Black and Hispanic children are significantly more likely to be shot to death by police than their white counterparts are, Joseph said the neighbor’s call put her daughter in lethal peril.

National Oklahoma City Bombing Commemoration Day
National Oklahoma City Bombing Commemoration Day is celebrated on April 19 annually. This day aims at honoring the deceased, injured, and volunteers when the devastating event occurred. Two anti-government extremists — Timothy McVeigh and Terry Nichols perpetrated the terrorist attack. They did this with white supremacists and right-wing terrorist sympathies. The bombing happened at 9:02 a.m. at the Alfred P. Murrah Federal Building in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, and killed at least 168 people, injured more than 680 others, and destroyed more than one-third of the building.
History of National Oklahoma City Bombing Commemoration Day
Timothy McVeigh, an ex-Army soldier and security guard, parked a rented Ryder truck in front of the Alfred P. Murrah Federal Building in downtown Oklahoma City on April 19, 1995. He decided to commit mass murder there. The bomb was a powerful one. It consisted of a deadly cocktail of agricultural fertilizer, diesel fuel, and other chemicals. McVeigh got out of the rented car with the bomb inside, locked the door, and headed towards his getaway car. He ignited one timed fuse, then another. At 9:02 a.m., the bomb exploded.
A third of the building had been reduced to rubble in just a few seconds, with many floors flattened. The surrounding area looked devastated. More than 300 nearby buildings were damaged or destroyed; dozens of cars were incinerated. The consequences to human beings were still more devastating: 168 souls were lost, including 19 children, with several hundred more injured.
It was the worst act of terrorism in United States history. The F.B.I. quickly arrived at the scene to support rescue efforts and investigate the facts. There were clues in the area they found. On April 20, thanks to the rear axle of the Ryder truck, the vehicle identification number was traced to a body shop in Junction City, Kansas. Employees helped the F.B.I. quickly compose a composite drawing of the man who had rented the van. F.B.I. agents started to show the sketch around town, and local hotel employees supplied a name: Tim McVeigh.

According to WBNS News, a member of the Ohio National Guard was arrested this week on suspicion of selling illegal, untraceable "ghost gun" kits, including mechanisms that can convert an AR-15 into a fully automatic machine gun.
"The U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Southern District of Ohio announced federal agents arrested 24-year-old Thomas Devlin for making the untraceable homemade weapons made in whole or in part with a 3D printer," said the report. "Develin allegedly created the ghost guns to sell for profit. He also allegedly possessed homemade conversion devices to convert semi-automatic AR-15 rifles and Glock-type pistols into fully automatic machine guns. The U.S. Attorney’s Office said agents discovered more than 25 firearms in Develin’s residence and vehicle while executing a search warrant in March 2022."
As the report noted, Develin also has been indicted for allegedly making terroristic threats towards Jews online, while working as a security guard for the Torah Academy in Columbus. He has also allegedly advocated the rape of women in online posts.
"In September 2021, it is alleged Develin posted a picture of the synagogue where he was working at the time and stated, in part, 'Having an inner debate that if an active shooter comes in I might just join him,'" said the report. "In November 2021, Develin allegedly posted a video of himself sniffing a rifle. In the video, Develin says, 'This one smells like dead Jews.' In a December 2021 Discord post, Develin allegedly wrote, 'Ight, time to turn wright pat airbase into Fort hood in 2009.' In January 2022, Develin allegedly posted a picture of a New Albany synagogue with the text, 'The holocaust didn’t happen' and 'If anything I’ll scream 6 million wasn’t enough.'"
Hate crimes have exploded in recent years, one of the most horrific being the 2018 shooting at the Tree of Life Synagogue in Pittsburgh by a far-right gunman. Many other threats have been levied against Jewish centers and synagogues; a 2017 report suggested that the perpetrators were using sophisticated technology to spoof phone numbers to avoid being detected.
The proliferation of untraceable "ghost guns," too, has raised alarms with law enforcement; in April, President Joe Biden issued a new executive order sharply restricting the availability of kits to design them.

One of the biggest lies ever told
is that white supremacy is a far-right ideology 🥴. It’s a white way of life birthed in the white community, regardless of politics, and upheld by those who are vocal for it and silent about the social construct of racial hierarchy they created through white terrorism in countries they conquered through slavery and slaughter or fixed white dominance of power in Europe.
Democratic president Andrew Johnson paused on Black Americans from receiving their land and financial repair (reparations) for chattel slavery (an increasing debt till this day to be paid) before opening up the floodgates to Black Codes and Jim Crow, which never ended just evolved. Republican president Ronald Reagan funneled crack cocaine into Black American communities leading to crack babies and the wave of mass incarcerations.
Democratic president Bill Clinton signed that 1994 (Mass Incarceration) Crime Bill and created the racist ASFA Act that led to the still-standing epidemic of Black American children being removed from their homes for any reason, overwhelmingly to be placed into white homes after kidnapping and child trafficking CPS, and putting the biological families through umpteenth hoops to get them back, if ever. Harts, anyone? Republican president Richard Nixon poured heroin into Black American communities before coining the “War on Drugs” and ushering in mass incarcerations.
Political parties don’t matter. They’re the same mothafuckas.
