sooo glad we live in the universe where twdgs4 was rewritten to be about saving the school instead of the original lis2-esque on the road each-episode-is-a-new-location plot. really dodged a bullet there

dont know if it was due to the cuts and collapsing work environment (no budget for all the assets needed) or what but the school plot is just like the perfect setting for her to end her story. and we really almost got a plot about her.... just trying to make it back to her original house? oof

I have personal beef with most of the tiktok mlp infection aus because of how they mischaracterize or immediately kill off Twilight as if she doesn't literally give off the most potent Final Girl vibes 💀 like she's smart, strong, and knows how to function both alone & w/ a group. Her ass would NOT be dying immediately. Then if they don't make her the first to die they usually make her the evil-scientist villain or something.

Really missing the whole point of why survival horrors are scary, the main conflict should revolve around the struggle of surviving in a wasteland and the strained relationships that come along with that. What good does having a "main antagonist" do? They defeat them and then what? There's still zombies outside

#my little hater rant now that the trend has passed its peak and most people who wanted to throw their hat in the ring have #i really like some of them don't get me wrong #but i feel like a lot of them put their all into the designs and then don't have the same inspiration to write an impactful apocalypse STORY #and as a big twdg fan growing up i'm a big fan of survival horrors #the main conflict of any apocalypse story should always be man vs. nature bc zombies/walkers/whatever are all usually mindless #they don't have a motivation. it's the protag who has the motivation to survive #ofc you can have man vs. man or more importantly man vs. self sideplots but there's usually no “big bad” of any apocalypse story #there's no villain to defeat where once you do everything goes back to normal. unless you want to take a cop out route #and say that person was just hiding the cure all along #but not having a villain is a lot different from ANY mlp arc where there's always a main antagonist to defeat at the end of each season #like tirek or discord or chrysalis #which I think is why so many people making these aus struggle with this concept so much and why a lot of them feel directionless #because a lot of apocalypse stories end with the main character dying or leaving it open ended for a REASON #as both a mlp and survival horror fan I love both of these medias and this rant comes from a place of love btw #this is just me rambling about my interests #basilspeakss

what do you think about the concept of the comic kids stumbling upon ericsons instead of clem leaving?

It's a fine concept that I doubt anyone would actually implement into their fanworks because comic bad. Most fans are too pissy about the comics to see any further than the tips of their nose, and I totally get it but it's kind of unfortunate for me since it limits the discussions significantly. I can only hear the same, "the comics ruined Clementine and TWDG, Tillie Walden bad, Skybound bad," so many times before I'm so tired that I retire to my chair with a glass of tea to stare disappointedly into the great nothing and deteriorate.

So, for fun, some ideas to toss out there:

As I said in my previous post, Amos would love Ericson. The dude would be all over the place and determined to make as many new friends as possible. I think Olivia would enjoy it, too, and maybe Georgia wouldn't be a half-assed villain... or she could've been made into a great villain... just saying, Georgia could've gotten in good with Marlon, learned about the raiders, and then convinced him to trade Amos away as a means of keeping him away from Olivia. Though, she might not have anything to worry about in this case; I maintain that Amos would've had a major crush on Ruby.

But then we get to Ricca. Within the comics, her character falters due to being Clementine's main love interest. As a concept, Ricca isn't actually that bad. It's the execution and how she's portrayed as a love interest that makes me not like her, so if we remove that, she has a shot at being a compelling character... because we're not sending her to Ericson to be a love interest, or shove her into a love triangle/square with Clementine and Louis/Violet. I think she'd get along with most of the Ericson crew, except I think she'd really butt heads with Marlon and Mitch. I can see her getting on well with Violet, too. I know saying they're alike in a lot of ways could be considered as offensive by some sensitive fans, but they're both queer girls with religious backgrounds and familial trauma and I think it's okay to entertain the idea that they'd get along. Also, they both have snark to them that could easily be bounced back and forth... or at someone else. Probably Louis, or Amos.

And honestly bring everyone except Morro from Book Two to Ericson. Get John away from his abusive mother. Let Amir be friends with AJ, Tenn, and Willy and teach them to play new games and stuff. Emi could teach them better ways to fish and could even go on longer trips to bring back bigger hauls for the group. Fen would love the school setting and would search everywhere for different maps and information about Taiwan. Hell, bring Giles and Ginette, the old French couple who don't speak much English. Let them settle down with little Mercy at Ericson where they can teach everyone how to knit and build stuff and just be grandparents to all these troubled youth.

Yeah, the comics suck, but what's a fandom to do other than take things they don't like and change them to be something they do, yeah?

Was just playing S1 E3 when I thought of this, and I've decided to make this an open question to TWDG fans: what location do you associate most with each season? My list goes something like this:

Season 1: The motor inn. We actually spend very little time here (on-screen, not chronologically), but to me the motor inn has always been THE location of the first season. It's our base of operations, the only real one we ever have during the season, and it's something the characters are clearly invested in, which makes me invested as well. Often I think of ways they could've made the motor inn work more long-term, or at least have had an easier time while they were there.

Season 2: Howe's, definitely. We only get it for one episode, but it feels like a much bigger part of the season than it is. There's a lot of character to the location, from the pen to the armory to the flimsy-looking expansion, as well as the announcements Carver makes using the loudspeakers. This is where the season is at the peak of its story in my opinion, with one of the best villains in the series and a lot of interesting things going on. I wouldn't have minded spending a lot more time here, getting to learn more about the community outside of Carver and a few guards.

A New Frontier: Prescott. It's one of the few non-villainous communities we get to really see in the series, which automatically makes it pretty interesting. It reminds me of something from Fallout, the way it's built around an old airstrip with junky-but-functional walls. It even has a functioning bar, as well as an (admittedly shady) bartering system. I wish we could've seen more things like this as the series progressed, the world slowly putting itself back together the best it can. Shame it got destroyed.

The Final Season: Ericson's. This one is pretty obvious, since we spend the vast majority of the season there. To make it more specific, I'll say that the courtyard is what I associate most with the season. It's pretty much the hub area anytime we're there, providing a nice chance to interact with everyone. It would've been so cool if the development team had been able to do their original idea of reclaiming parts of the school over time, but I'm happy with what we ended up getting.

What about you all? I'd love to hear some other peoples' opinions on this.

Thoughts on Kenny - TWDG?

I'm not very fond of Kenny. I know that's unpopular opinion, but the first time I played the game I think I managed to play in the worst possible way in regards to him.

I sided with Kenny in every single choice except one. I chose to save Larry because I thought CPR was at least worth trying before we went straight to salt-licking people. I still stand by that, but Kenny was so upset by Lee's lack of unconditional loyalty that he hated him for the rest of the game. I found that upsetting, considering every choice I made before and after that point was in Kenny's favor, but I still liked him for the most part. However, I had a breaking point. That was when Kenny decided to not help his bitten ally look for an abducted eight year old girl because...oh right, Lee made ONE choice against him three episodes ago.

What personally bothers me most about Kenny is how he expects unconditional loyalty while not being willing to give it in return. Chloe Price is another character who has the expectation of unconditional loyalty. She gets angry with Max if you don't side with her 100% of the time, and like Kenny, she will bring this up for episodes after the fact. However, unlike Kenny, Chloe gives Max her unconditional loyalty in return. You can not side with Chloe ONCE in the ENTIRE game and she will still shoot Frank to protect Max. She will still not go into the party to avenge Rachel after learning that it could put Max in harm's way. She will still sacrfice herself for Arcadia and tell Max how much she loves her.

More Undercut

That's what kills me with him. He wants something he won't give, and if someone treats him with the same fickle loyalty he generally has for others, he explodes with rage. I was also not a fan of how he (and Jane) tried to isolate Clem throughout Season 2. His "You're either 100% with me against Jane and the cabin group or you're betraying me" attitude gets old fast. I feel for him, I really do, but my Season 2 Clem is far more reliant on Luke and the rest of the cabin group than Kenny or Jane. I think they're far more stable all things considered.

I don't think Kenny is evil or anything, and I will be the first to acknowledge that a lot of his actions come from a place of trying to protect the ones he loves most. However, I personally find him to be very frustrating. Like...my guy...a twelve year old is not betraying you because she wants to go to a location where the group KNOWS there's baby formula and food instead of aimlessly wondering in a snowy landscape trying to find a place they aren't even 100% exists.

The Walking Dead Fanfic Collab

I've been writing fanfiction in the TWDG community for almost a year now, and while I've been known to jump from work to work, coming up with wildly different ideas, I always stuck to writing preexisting characters. It's not that I have anything against original characters, I just struggle to insert them into fics with characters we're already familiar with. The only way I'd write a story featuring original characters was if the whole cast was made up of original characters. But I do not have the time nor creativity to make all of those characters.

This is where you come in. I've always been a fan of tabletop games like Dungeons & Dragons that involve making stories from characters that are created independently from one another. it's a fun challenge, spending all this time into exploring the different character dynamics, what works and what doesn't, that kind of thing. I also thought it helped in bringing in a much more diverse cast of characters, in both identity and personality.

And that's what this project is going to be: taking a ragtag group of characters and trying to make a story out of it. It might be good, it might be fucking terrible, but I think it'll be fun regardless. At least I hope so, because I'm depressed enough as it is.

professor Everett i'm paralyzed on my deathbed i cannot do this!!! anyways, sorry to the three Jane fans that exist, but I DO NOT LIKE HER!! AT ALL!!!! Maybe this is biased given my very normal attitude regarding Kenny, but you can obviously see that her role as a character was extremely rushed in the last episode; I don't even think she was supposed to survive! Outside of budget problems or interpersonal bullshit happening in TTG, I just genuinely fucking hated her in the last episode. ANNNDDD IM GONNA RANT ABBOUT ITT GRAAAAAGHHH!!!!

When Jane's introduced to the story she's intriguing, and in general a character that I really wanted to see develop in my first playthrough; She KNEW what she was doing on a completely different level compared to every other character then introduced in the season 2 roster, because as opposed to let's say Kenny or Luke, she's been treading in the shoes of a walker for roughly two years at that point, she knows the enemy in a way that only Clementine (and Lee (LMAO)) knows, if that makes sense. You can see her as an ally in some strange form only based on shared experience. Her character is a bit intense, but she carries herself like she's more important and above the others, extremely self assured and all that bullshit, which is quite the comparison with Nick, Alvie and Luke where they prefer to keep themselves at ground level, and in a way that's more personal and opens their character and personality up for us to explore. It makes her somewhat like a big sister stand-in for Clementine, and its extremely obvious that she see's all her own flaws inside Clem and tries to snuff it out before she makes the same mistakes she did (Any scene revolving around Sarah, and how she was trying to convince Clem to leave her alone to get eaten alive and then SULKING when she doesn't). It's interesting, and I wont deny I deeply enjoyed the scenes where she's teaching Clementine some of her survival tricks! But it all really falls apart by the last leg of episode 4, with the whole Luke thing. It's strange, their entire dynamic and relationship is strange because frankly by the second time they interact they're already mapping eachothers insides dawg... completely fucking shocked me man... Her "leaving" the group didn't really create any swell of emotions inside me (neither did her returning), if anything I felt relieved and neutral as her character had mostly served its purpose in Clementines' story; but that's where the problem begins, she's exhausted her use as a character.

In episode 5 her character is dull and useless until she slowly tries to convince Clem that Kenny is a liability, in which yes, she's not WRONG but if she opened her two eyes and compared to his one functioning fucking eye she'd realize that "Hey the kid that he's beating the FUCK out of and the reason why my little fuck-buddy died was because I STOLE A BAG OF SUPPLIES THAT?? ULTIMATELY?? DIDN'T EVEN MATTER IN THE END??"

I have to accept the fact that actions in the ttg series often don't matter at all. Like NADA. NUH UH. And alot of shit doesn't get mentioned ever again despite the fact that it was a serious part of the story (Omid and Christa, Ben dying, Carlos/Sarah/Nick dying, ETC), But to have shit like that be ignored? completely? no one held her against herself for stealing the bag? ever? like ever ever? Clementine steals the pills, which would've been enough in the first fucking place. (bag is never seen again after that btw). But that part does also show us how deceptively selfish Jane is, in a way that is almost fucking messed up; because it isn't petty, it's straight up murder in some cases (Arvo's group, Luke/Bonnie, Kenny/herself, ALMOST AJ.)

But the part that drove me up the wall with her was the final scenes, where she manages to corrupt an 11 year old's brain into thinking, "WOW Kenny's going off the deep end and MIGHT theoretically KILL ME all because this FREAKY white woman told me so!" Fuck man, her hiding AJ while not even being SURE that she'd live to tell them where she hid him? Her witnessing Kenny getting beat up until a part of his skull got crushed for his adoptive kid and then being able to look Clem in the eye and go "he's a selfish monster"? when her selfish actions is what caused the ENTIRETY of the ep5 events? (sans Rebecca dying) She got into that fight not because she WANTED Clem to be safe but because she WANTED to be proven RIGHT!! ARRGHHH!!!!! (SHE COULD'VE CALLED IT OFF TOO BUT SHE JUST WANTED SO BADLY TO BE THE "SAVIOUR")

Don't get me started on her shitty "ending" either...

Kenny (Telltale's The Walking Dead) - I am the world's biggest Kenny defender. Jane fans hate me. I need a T-shirt that says "Kenny (TWDG) didn't do anything wrong" or however the phrase goes. I am exaggerating for the bit here I do acknowledge his faults HOWEVER I love him in spite of said flaws. He's just a guy who cares deeply for those he considers family and even when it comes out in bad ways I just can't hate him for it. Very uncomfortable with how violent he's written to be in s2 but there's still the Kenny I know and love from s1 down in there so whatever.

Zack Addy (Bones) - He is everything to me I'm gonna be real. I cannot describe to you how much it hurt that he didn't really come back after the Gormogon arc aside from like, some brief appearances as well as his side-arc or whatever in s12. I think the rotating cast of interns after his departure was fun and I really liked some of the guys that showed up from that but if you gave me a button that made Zack stay as a main character for the whole series I'd press it so fucking fast.

Ekubo (Mob Psycho 100) - I FEEL LIKE THIS ONE IS ALMOST AN OBVIOUS CHOICE GIVEN [*gestures at my url] BUT. I don't really post about him solo all that often which is funny given I think a lot abt him outside of Ekurei posting. I care his character growth over the series so much and if I wasn't so Reigen-brained I'd probably be so fucking annoying about him specifically. Fortunately my brother picks up the slack on that front o7 to him but yeah, give it up to Ekubo who would have to be my overall 2nd fav from MP100.

Jack Baker (Resident Evil 7) - I don't have a big spiel for him like I do the others idk my brain just latched onto him one day and I haven't been able to shake it since. I'm too much of a pussy to get myself to play RE7 (despite now owning it lmfao) and yet it's a comfort game of mine. Wild. ANYWAYS JACK BAKER him as an enemy is super fucking cool and he scares the crap out of me BUT I also like his uninfected moments. He's such a sweet father and it makes the tragedy of what happened to his family even more worse. Guys who I wish were my father.

Aoi Asahina (Danganronpa) - AOI MY SWEETHEART!!!! I know I publicly rotate the Naegis or the Fukawas or Kazuichi or etc. a lot but I'm also a big Aoi fan. Her relationship with Sakura makes me ❤💔❤💔❤💔❤ and genuinely I remember feeling so happy that she ended up being one of the survivors from that game. I still have yet to get through the dr3 anime but seeing her in the future arc is always a treat I love getting to see her again. Like Jack I don't have the deepest words for her but she just makes me so happy also like a lot of Danganronpa characters I wish she came from a better source media.

FTR I could give you so many more favs ESPECIALLY from Bones where I love the majority of the cast. But I'm holding back on giving an honorable mentions list since it would kinda defeat the purpose of the prompt AHJSNJKKGDJNNGKJ. Feel free to ask me about my opinions on the Bones cast or like my other favs. But also the Bones cast I am holding my tongue so hard on them.

Hey CJ, you mentioned that you disagree with a lot of your old TWDG opinions, any that stand out you wanna share? Also i agree with what you said about wanting to play the series for the first time again with no prior knowledge - i would love to meet louis character for the first time again.

Yeah, some opinions have changed with time and moving on from being a hardcore, active fan in the fandom. I'm pretty sure I've talked about some of them more recently, like how I used to not like Jane but now I've become something of a "Jane apologist," if you will.

I was also super vocal about hating the Clementine comics when the 12-page comic dropped, and I'm pretty sure I was shitty about Tillie Walden... which I look back on now and feel embarrassed. In fact, I specifically remember calling attention to the fact that Skybound turned off comments on the first book trailer and on their instagram, twitter, etc. and being like, "look at these COWARDS! they know we hate the comic and that Tillie's a bad artist, they're trying to shut us up!" ........but then I heard they turned them off because Tillie was getting threats, and it caused me to dig around and see the vile shit fans were saying.... It gave me pause to think things through and I feel very differently about it all now.

I've also changed my mind on Minerva. Like Jane, there was a loooong period of time where I didn't like her, but now? I think she's great. A real tragedy.

In fact, real talk, I think my perspective on most of the female characters in TWDG has shifted dramatically. I've done a lot of thinking on this just in general; I'm much harder on female characters than male characters. I can pretend like noooooo I was always soooo fair... but no, not always. I'm sure it's from some deep-rooted, internalized misogyny I have that I'm working on, but I also think the games sometimes neglect those characters, too. Which makes it easier to brush them off as just "poorly-written" and "bad characters" if I don't like them when that's not always the case.

Or let's be real, we all know how this goes; the games give us a flawed male character and fans are like "he's my blorbo, here's a 50k essay about why he deserved better and a list of my headcanons and the twenty AUs I've written for them-" but then a female character's just as flawed and fans are like "lol she's poorly written, here's an essay on why-"

Don't look at me like that. I know I'm guilty of this. I know y'all remember Mitch. Back in the day, Mitch was my boy and I used to write about him all the time but like... god forbid I put that much effort into writing about Violet or Minerva, right?

Or even look at Kate, for example. Past CJ would've talked about how much she doesn't like Kate and she hates the forced romance with Javi, she's just there as a way to make David and Javi fight, etc. But you ask me about Kate now and I'm like, "Girl, ANF did you so dirty, you didn't deserve this."

Or how about Bonnie in S2? We all love to hate on Bonnie, but like... she's such an interesting character?? She's a recovering drug addict so desperate for a place, and you can see Carver's manipulation at play in the way she talks about him to Clementine. It takes seeing him physically beat Kenny within an inch of his life before she's like "Yeah no, fuck this, we're leaving tonight." And we give her shit about Luke's death and being mean to Clementine but frankly? Yeah, she's mean to Clementine and that's fine.

What, it's okay for Kenny to lash out and call her a stupid kid when Sarita dies because he's your poor meow meow and it makes his character soooo morally gray and complex? But Bonnie lashes out about Luke's death and suddenly she's just a massive piece of shit? No complexities or anything? There's no grey morality? No underlying motive or emotions behind the choice to abandon the group with Mike and Arvo?? She's just a bitch??

And do I even need to talk about Sarah? Hmm? We all know how Sarah was received and how fans still talk about her. Again, Sarah has a complete meltdown over losing her father and people get hurt, and fans wish death upon her... but Kenny has a meltdown and brutally beats up Arvo or threatens to smack Clementine or a number of things.... "that's fine, he's just really upset, he lost his family, y'know? everyone keeps trying to GASLIGHT me that he's bad but if you really think about it, Arvo totally deserved to be abused and it's actually Clementine's fault Kenny hit her because she tried to stop him-"

I just... the lengths we go to justify and defend this violent, toxic character but then act like Jane is the worst, I can't-

It's so funny to me whenever I see someone in the fandom complain about wanting more morally grey, flawed female characters because like... y'all couldn't even handle Jane. Or Lilly. Or Sarah. Or Bonnie. Rebecca. Eleanor. Christa. Minerva and Violet, in a lot of cases. So like... what do you actually want?

Note that I'm guilty of this, too, and I've asked myself that question... haven't fully worked out the answer yet.

That's the major thing that comes to mind about opinions I had that I've changed my mind about. I think a big factor in that is letting twdg go and getting invested in other fandoms, doing a lot more reading, getting back into writing, etc. Obviously I've really gotten into the Dragon Age fandom and that's what triggered this "journey of self-reflection~" when it comes to how I perceive female characters. Like, you want flawed, morally-grey ladies? That's your series... assuming you can actually handle it.

But I also recently finished a playthrough of Fallout New Vegas and remembered my love for Veronica Santangelo, like... I don't care that the game doesn't technically have romance, that's my girlfriend, I love her. Then the other night I finished my first playthrough of Life is Strange True Colors [I know, where the fuck have I been, right?] and I spent 40% of the time looking at flowers, 10% being sad about Gabe, and the other 50% trying to figure out who I liked more, Steph or Ryan.

I've also been reading a lot of wlw novels which is just..... THAT'S a whole mess I won't get into because this is already long enough and you didn't ask. Just know that's also another factor in this reflection.

And to answer the other part of your ask: I miss Louis. I would love to play TFS again for the first time again, that was a fun time.

The magic of white witches in tvd. Freya slept for a thousand years and woke up super powerful without a struggle to perform a spell or even having some self-loathing due to her history with Dahlia.

As for Davina who faces a lot of similar struggles Bonnie did. But she gets her “fuck you, this my agency moment..”

Meanwhile we had to watch Bonnie physically be in pain when it came to performing harder spells. Not including her dying every season. Every black witch that was in the show eventually had some traumatic death on-screen that was never addressed.

Every time someone likes my older posts/asks I have more to add each time.

My #1 post of 2022

A rough draft of an excerpt that belongs to this au:

“Good morning,” Bonnie whispered, peeping her head out on the back porch. Of course, this is where Klaus would be. Sitting on the deck, listening to the birds chirp while chatting with their daughter. “I was wondering where you two went. You know I hate the silence of a empty room.”

Klaus was rocking an active two-month old Hazel. “Sorry, my love, the littlest witch had awoken and I couldn’t resist. She’s exquisite company.” After easing the infant gently inside her bassinet. Klaus’ sped from the rocking chair and back with Bonnie on his lap.

Klaus could list a heavy amount of things he missed with Hope. All of her firsts went to Rebekah. On and off fighting with Hayley upon Hope’s return. Missing four years of her life from Marcel’s prison. Now, he’s adding onto that time because of the hollow. Those are secrets and anguish from another life that he will hold until he can properly explain it to Bonnie.

“Sometimes I still can’t believe she’s real.” Bonnie replied, resting on Klaus’ torso as she holds Hazel in her arms examining her features as usual. She’d never be this tiny again. Brown skin, just like her mother’s. Green eyes inherited from her great-grandfather on her mother’s side. Maybe, the next will take up after Klaus.

“Yes, I carried her for months. Made plans with you for her nursery. The shopping—but that doesn’t matter! She’s here and perfect. Is it weird that everything I’ve ever done seems insignificant compared to her? I always wanted a full home so I didn’t feel alone.”

“No,” Klaus said, admiring the warmth that filled his body watching Hazel smile and coo back at her mother. “You were always saving the day. That doesn’t mean because you saved the day it gave you joy. Hazel, was and is your choice.”

Now that held some truth. Servant of nature is what a witch was supposed to be. Not everyone could be a Bennett witch even if Bonnie willingly gave her powers up.

“Caroline and Stefan emailed me. They want me to write the real history on Bennett witches for the boarding school.” Bonnie shrugged, lowering Hazel down to her breast to feed. While Klaus tugged her tank-top off her shoulder. “While Alaric is requesting talismans and other Bennett artifacts to show the students.”

“And, you don’t want that at all.” Klaus said, raising a brow. Not that he blamed her. A Bennett grimoire and a vial of blood in the wrong hands suddenly becomes a wild card for a supernatural.

“Absolutely not.” Bonnie agreed, cradling the curly head of her daughter. “I don’t think anyone else is deserving to write my family’s history but me.” She declared. “Giving up Bennett artifacts just sounds like an accident waiting to happen. Pictures exist for a reason.”

Kissing at Bonnie’s temple. “They could make a statue in your honor. I think that is just as fitting.”

“It is, since I’m the reason Mystic Falls isn’t a wiped out town on the map. A statue and plaque should’ve been made when the school was.”

“I could build one for you in our backyard,” Klaus remarks. “Right, in the center.”

“Can we put a raincheck on that statue? There’s a ritual Bennett witches perform after an infant is born. We do it during celestial events. I never had mine but I need Hazel to have hers. She’ll be sheltered by the spirits in all ways.”

Klaus’ eyes go wide for a moment. “I wasn’t aware those occurred. Ayana had four daughters and never practiced those.”

“You didn’t know she did those. It’s really private event. Witches of the past and present attend. The bloodline wants each off-spring prepared. All our daughter has to do is show up and be cute.”

“We can do anything you want.” Klaus agrees. Hope never had a coven of witches to shelter her upon birth and accept her immediately with open arms. If the ritual is performed on Hazel that can restrict the Hallow or anyone else for that matter from chasing after the Bennett’s.

“Our daughter should meet my wolf form.“ Klaus blurts out after.

“I think she’d like that.”

Hmmm. Let me think! I’m sure I’ll miss a lot of good ones, but some of the first to come to mind: 💪

Film: obviously LoTR. I think that was one of the category namers. Gladiator (historical fiction). V for Vendetta (speculative fiction). Mad Max Fury Road (apocalyptic sci-fi). Terminator, but mostly the original and Terminator Salvation, not every film in the series (sci-fi). Meet John Doe (contemporary fiction at the time, but to us, historical fiction). The Prince of Egypt (Abrahamic story). The Wind Rises (historical, tragic drama). Spider-Man 2 (superhero). The Sound of Music if you push it. Like the hopepunk is contained in almost exclusively Act 3 but shit is it a hell of an act (historical, musical).

Tv: 1: Unlimited Blade Works (modern fantasy/sci-if)—one of my favorite TV shows of all time, painful and beautiful, very hopepunk. Do not watch the movie watch the 2014 anime, and watch the OG Japanese audio with subs. The dub was hell. 2: Angel Beats! (Supernatural dram/tragedy/comedy) This is a very hard show—like lots of painfully sad moments, but very sweet and worth it. End is bittersweet, but good. I’ve only seen the English dub, but the dub is very quality. 3: Infinity Train [seasons 2 and 3] (sci-fi, cosmic horror). 4: Tomorrow (supernatural, K Drama) — really good, watching it right now, Doctor Who (all of Doctor 9 and 10 at least much of his run),

Books: Any Terry Pratchett, but Night Watch probably top ranking, or maybe Small Gods (fantasy). LoTR again. The Shining Company (historical fiction) (a lot of her books are). Good Omens (supernatural fiction). Revolution (historical fantasy). 

Games: Days Gone (zombie apocalypse, work of art), Persona 5 Royal (speculative fiction, also a work of art), Kingdom Hearts (at least some of them, fantasy), arguably S4 of TWDG (zombie apocalypse), Determinately either Wolf Among Us (fantasy) or DBH (sci-fi) by dent of being decision based branching games.

Podcast: Nightavle through Stexcorp arc at least. TAZ Balance (fantasy, d&d podcast). Hello from the Hallowoods (ongoing, supernatural horror).

Comic: Bronze Age X-Men especially, I’m a huge fan of. If you’re interested in some of the really good ideas and meta that came with X-Men but don’t do comics, the best adaptation I’ve seen yet is X-Men Evolution, and I think that’s available to stream (superhero, sci-fi, social justice). Bone (fantasy).

Music: The Trans Siberian Orchestra album Beethoven's Last Night (album, rock opera, historical fiction), Les Miserables (musical, historical fiction). 

It also depends on how broadly you define the genre. I think of anything fitting into “Antithesis of GrimDark. Stories where the world is cruel and unfair and brutal any maybe on a grand scale, unchangeable, but combatting that and living and loving is deeply precious and meaningful despite, or in some cases even more so, because of that.” Some people might categorize The Wind Rises, for example, as Historical, Drama, Tragedy, but not as Hope Punk. I would call it that though. I hope that the list is still a good one for you. If you want only the most true-blue Hope Punk, I could give you a shorter list too.

Sorry this took so long. I wanted a good list, and it was harder than I thought. I’m sure I still missed many I deeply love.
