Amity is one of the people who understands Luz the most (Part 3).
After the King's Tide event, Luz is in one of her worst moments. Despite this, Amity is always there to be her biggest comfort. There are several times Amity can know how Luz is feeling even though Luz doesn't even directly say anything.
8. Thanks to Them
8.1.
Amity is the only one noticing how Luz always blames herself when the group failed to build the Portal Door.
Tumblr media
Though Luz doesn't even verbally say that, but from seeing Luz slouches down, Amity understands all.
Tumblr media
8.2. This is my favorite moment.
Just from one glance at Luz's eyes, Amity immediately knows how much Luz misses the Boiling Isles and how she wishes to do magic again.
Tumblr media
So Amity does the light glyph and lets Luz lift it up as if she was doing magic as well. Amity wants Luz to feel like she can still do magic despite being in the Human Realm. Amity also wants Luz to feel connected to the Boiling Isles and feel hopeful that they can return to the Boiling Isles and fix everything.
Tumblr media
8.3.
Amity is the one coming up with the idea of the HayRide when she sees the poster that Luz drops on the floor. Luz doesn't say anything about that, yet Amity knows that Luz needs a break from everything. Amity wants Luz to be happy and enjoy cosplaying as her favorite character.
Tumblr media
8.4.
When the truth is revealed, Amity is sympathetic and understanding of Luz's side. She reassures Luz that she doesn't hate her, which helps Luz feel less insecure since being hated by everyone is Luz's biggest fear at that time.
Tumblr media
Amity also appreciates how Luz never gives up and always fights for them.
Tumblr media
9. For the Future.
Amity understands Luz's struggling to connect with her Palisman right after seeing Luz laying in the nest with Stringbean in the egg form.
Tumblr media
When Luz pulls away from the kiss, Amity doesn't press Luz any further like asking why Luz does that or coming closer. She doesn't even get angry or sulky at Luz and storm away. Instead, Amity just stays still and changes the subject. She understands that Luz needs space.
Tumblr media
And she also knows the reason why Luz comes to that room and Luz's biggest concern, which is saving Eda and King.

🦝 Interesting that "one element" you said from the previous post, It follows the isekai sub-gen and the only obvious thing about it is that it is fantasy true, so the world building/exploration was suppose to be the priority I think. The world isn't explored that much outside the school and most seetings happen at the owl house. Besides Luz curiosity, the writers don't seem to find a drive/reason to take the seeting elsewhere.
But speaking of the the plot happening frequently at the owl house , I was getting sick of that at one point, I know who the main characters are but I wanted more episodes focusing on other characters that isn't necessary the hexside, maybe another school? Maybe even that kids shack from the body swap episode? Or even someone's else home.
.
And I noticed we rarely get episodes outside Luz's pov. The only episode that stays with me when this doesn't happen is eclipse lake, I know it's still focused around Luz but I appreciated that for the most part she wasn't the voice and the thought of it, it was Amity and it felt like the show finally remembered her as a character for once, not just a fodder/love interest, minus the repetitive "awesome girfriend" thing but it still sucks cause that was her end goal there, to be awesome gf, nothing related to the main plot, I didn't mind as much the first time until I realized that this is what's gonna be of her character from now on.
But that aside, this is what I wanted from more characters, different perspectives, personal lives outside the main plot and outside Luz, heck I wanted episodes that focuses on Amity's ex friends group while she was still there, cause the grudgby thing was awesome and I was curious what else they can do individually (and I wanted more Boscha/Amity content). This would've also gave more insight to Amity as a character in general, especially with Willow and the bullying issue besides the "It's my parents fault" and while still valid it didn't hold much weight after their introduction.
.
Also I'm really glad I'm not the only one who noticed that Eda has gone through sudden character changes as well, while not as drastic as Amity or Hunter, I was taken aback when I saw the motherly undertones from her. I understood it in s1 with king and I saw it more as a gag to make fun of his tantrums.
In s2 from the first episode "separate tides" when she said her life was great thanks to Luz but the only things she can recall where they bonded significantly are the first episode stealing the paper crown, and the last episode where she almost died (petrified but whatever), and that Luz got her to talk with Lilith again although that never happened on screen, out of 19 episodes which is funny, that emotional talk came out of nowhere, I didn't feel the connection before it.
So I guess this is where the found family started taking over but I doubt we needed that.
Hope you don't mind that I ramble as well
I like the ramblings! They're a lot of fun! Honestly, the biggest issue is just that the asks are in part to help me scale down my amount of ramblings. For me to answer to every part of this would make for a... LONG blog. So I'd love to talk about a lot of this but could you perhaps make each time you would have broken it into another section into another ask? It's just easier for me to organize and respond coherently to that way. ^^;

I don't think I'll ever be over Knock, Kock, Knockin' On Hooty's Door and Eclipse Lake
Luz being all panicky about the idea of asking Amity out, "I'll never make my way into Amity's heart- I mean make a portal back home," Luz calling Amity a cotton-candy haired goddess, Luz gushing about Amity to the echo mouse, the implication that Luz is so worried about asking Amity out because she was rejected by previous crushes for being too "cheesy" and now she's afraid of scaring Amity off by coming on too strong or being mushy, Amity's little blush when Luz helps her out of the giant owl pellet, Luz back-peddling when Amity says she wants to forget about the kiss because she doesn't realize Amity just doesn't want to scare her off, the hugging and blushing after the floor moves, them clinging to each other for safety the whole way down the chute, the pillow winking at Luz, Luz panicking and setting the pillow on fire because it reflects her "cheesy" super romantic nature and she is absolutely terrified of showing that side of herself to Amity and making herself vulnerable to more rejection, Luz's facial expressions throughout the entire tunnel of love sequence as she is slowly consumed by the dread of Amity potentially thinking less of her or worse not wanting to be around her anymore, Amity blushing and fidgeting once she realizes what this whole tunnel of love thing is about and sees Luz's real opinions about her displayed on the sign, Amity getting really sad when she sees Luz is so resistant to the tunnel of love and getting visibly upset when Luz starts flipping out and destroying everything in her panic, Amity feeling like she's been rejected because of Luz's attempt to not be rejected (the irony and parallels are so good), Amity crying and thus alerting Luz to the fact that she done fucked up and Amity actually does want to date her, them being caught in a sapphic glitter bomb slo-mo moment together (followed immediately by more Bi Panic ™ from Luz), Luz freezing up when Eda asks her about how Hooty was trying to help her because she doesn't want to admit in front of Amity that she was trying to ask her out, Eda being super supportive and telling Luz that if she wants to ask Amity out she should go for it, Luz being herself and asking Amity if she's okay after Hooty wrecks the ground, all of the facial expressions and body language during the scene where they are asking each other out is so wonderfully awkward and adorable and perfectly captures what it's like to be a young queer person entering your first relationship, Amity admitting that she isn't too cool for the sappy "cheesy" stuff that Luz likes to do, the heart on the ground, Hooty referring to Amity as "Luz's new GF," Hooty's smile of satisfaction at having successfully set Luz and Amity up
Amity being super nurturing and making an abomination just to hold tissues for and otherwise tend to Luz while Amity is busy with other tasks, Amity checking on Luz and being worried about how a magical disease might affect her, Amity confiscating the portal key for Luz's safety, Luz's pouting being quickly overtaken by her urge to message Amity "UR PRETTY," Amity not understanding the message but trying to be supportive anyway, Amity taking every opportunity to say out loud that she's Luz's girlfriend (which feels very true to a young person in a new relationship, honestly, I do this as self-talk when I've recently started dating someone so I can totally relate), Amity bursting in to help when she hears Luz yelling, Amity volunteering to go on a dangerous mission just to help Luz, Eda being like, "Yeah, yeah, we get it, you're Luz's girlfriend and it's adorable, moving on," Eda having a nickname for Amity? (Boots) and telling her to grab a coat like the mom she is, Amity taking her mission super seriously, Amity telling Hunter to watch it when he sounds like he might be threatening Luz, Luz messaging Amity "UR RAD," Hunting projecting onto Luz and Amity's situation based on his trauma, Amity having that short period of doubt because Hunter's projecting triggered her own trauma, Amity asserting that she is an awesome girlfriend, Luz being desperate to reach Amity to warn her of the previously unknown added layer of danger, Amity catching and clutching the chat device in a way that tells us it's one of her most prized possessions, Amity confiding in King about the message Hunter projected onto and King quickly putting her fears to rest because Amity trusts him enough to listen when he shows her another way to look at the situation, "Of course, this is Luz we're talking about," Amity inadvertently gushing about Luz when she says "there are people out there who won't make you feel worthless" while she's comforting Hunter and reaching out a literal and figurative hand to him just the way Luz would (thus actively choosing to be the bigger person, but more importantly a better person than she was at the beginning of season one), "Oh, come on! Being nice usually works for Luz," Amity being visibly scared when Hunter says he knows where to find Luz, Amity playing 5D chess with the portal key, Luz clutching the messaging device in her hand even while she's asleep because it's clearly very important to her as well, Luz calling Amity her awesome girlfriend immediately upon seeing her, Amity's little blush and smile after Luz calls her an awesome girlfriend
Their relationship is so cute and layered, I can't even, I can't wait to see what comes next for them!

Hoot hoot everyone!!
I'm back from my little "mini-vacation" from that 30 day challenge. I was going to post this story earlier, but Black Friday weekend at my job got in the way.
Takes place after "Yesterday's Lie"
Enjoy!
We can fix this together
Amity is the first to notice that something is wrong with Luz.
Luz has been out of school for the past few days and Amity thought it was because of the portal magic. With building a new portal, it could've drained her girlfriend and it took her a few days to recover. But when she returned to Hexside, Amity knew it wasn't the portal, it must be something else.
Luz is quiet and withdrawn. Amity notices that Luz isn't paying attention in her classes that they have together and she silently worries about her. The bell screams and Amity starts walking towards Luz.
Luz, catching Amity through her peripheral vision, walks away fast from her, avoiding eye contact.
"Hmmm, that's weird," Amity thought. She starts walking to her next class, deep in thought. "Maybe she's avoiding me because she's going to talk about it at lunch and doesn't want to bore me with the details," which Amity thought was unusual. Luz could tell her a story a thousand times and she loves every minute of it. With a sigh, she sits down and gets ready for her next class. "Luckily, lunch is after this and we can all talk about this. I just hope she's okay," Amity silently says to herself.
_______________________________________________
Lunch is somewhat normal. Gus and Willow are the first to arrive at their table. Amity arrives next and sits down.
"I can't wait to see Luz" Gus says bouncing with excitement.
"I don't know Gus" Will cautiously says. "I asked her today about her trip and she didn't give me a lot of answers."
Amity, unpacking her lunch, looks up. "You tried to talk to her?"
"Yeah."
Amity's concern is growing, but she sees Luz coming over to them.
"Hey Luz! How's my awesome girlfriend doing?"
Luz flashes a smile to Amity, but doesn't sit down yet.
"Okay, the anticipation is killing me! How was the human realm?" Gus blurts out.
"It was good," Luz mumbles.
"Did you get to see your mother?" Willow says.
Luz grips her lunch tighter after that question. No one seems to notice, except Amity.
"Luz, are you okay?" Amity asks.
Luz looks at Amity with her big, brown eyes. Luz can't concentrate right now on her friends, especially her girlfriend. The tears are about to flow, but Luz is able to choke out "I'm sorry. I'm still not feeling well. I have to go!"
Luz bolts out of the cafeteria, leaving behind looks of shock on Gus and Willow's faces, while Amity is sitting there with her mouth slightly hanging open. She couldn't believe Luz just ran out of the cafeteria like that. Should she go after her? Should she give her space? Amity eats her lunch with Willow and Gus, casually conversing with them, while planning her next move after lunch.
_______________________________________________
"I guess being top student and a favorite of Principal Bump has its perks" Amity thought, never dreaming that Bump would let her leave school early to go after Luz.
Amity flies on Ghost to the Owl House. When she lands, someone is there to greet her.
"Oh look, it's Luz's girlfriend!" Hooty exclaims.
"Ugh, not now Hooty. Is Luz here?" Amity says.
"Maybe, but you'll have to give me a compliment before I let you through," Hooty says smugly to her.
"Listen bird tube. I don't have the time for this!" Amity says with a hint of venom in her voice. She conjures up a fireball. "Tell me where Luz is now or I will burn your face off!"
"HOOTY!! Stop harassing people!" Eda yells from the door, nursing a cup of apple blood.
"It's not harassing if she's here on a regular basis!"
"Yes it is. Now let her through."
"Fine." Amity glares as she walks pass Hooty. "Bye Luz's GF!" Hooty happily says.
"So what brings you here Boots?" Eda says while closing the door.
Amity sighs. "Is Luz here?" She drops her staff off at the door, and Ghost runs to the kitchen, hoping to find food there.
"Yeah. She ran pass me about 30 minutes ago, saying something about never going back to Hexside again."
Amity's heart drops at that statement. She walks over and sits on the couch. "She was going to tell us about her trip to the human realm today. Willow mentioned something about her mom and I asked if she was okay because I saw her tense up. And then she ran."
Eda takes a sip of apple blood and sits down next to Amity. "Look Boots." Amity looks up at Eda. "Something happened there in the human realm, but I don't know what. I've tried getting her to talk about it with me and King, but every time we try to, she changes to subject," Eda pauses. "I'm not one to push the issue with her about what happened there, but maybe you can."
"Me? Why me?"
"Because you're her girlfriend," Eda says looking at Amity, who is blushing. "I'm like a mother figure to her." That statement stuns Amity, and she never thought Eda would say that. "And if you tell that to anyone, I'll steal your tongue," Eda interrupts, but continues. "You're a little more personal with your significant other. Think of all the stuff you and Luz have been through or told each other, but haven't told anyone else?"
Amity immediately flashes back to that adventure at the library with the echo mouse.
*Everything's changed since you came here. Being around you, it makes me do stupid things and I wish I didn't!*
*It's okay. I do stupid things around you too Amity.*
"Well then, what do you think I should do, o wise owl lady?" Amity says while smirking at Eda.
Eda snorts laughing. "Just go up there and listen to her. She might open up to you really fast, maybe she might need time to open up to you, or you need to force it out of her. Just remember, you have to be there for her and promise to help her though it."
"Thanks Eda."
"Welcome. Now go up there and cheer your girlfriend up."
Amity smiles and makes her way up to Luz's room.
_______________________________________________
Luz curls up with all the blankets over her head, feeling horrible.
"How can I tell them?!?" Luz thinks. "I don't want to leave...." Luz doesn't want to finish that thought.
She's finally happy and blames herself for this situation.
"Why did I have to say I CHOSE to stay here?!? Why couldn't I have said, oh the portal broke before I could get home and I've been stuck here but no, I had to let the truth out!" She groans as she pulls the blankets tighter around herself.
She wants to be left alone. She doesn't want anyone seeing her like this. She feels like crap and she hates herself right now. "Ugh, can this get any worse?"
A knock interrupts her thoughts. She doesn't respond and the knocking resumes. "Go away Eda. I don't want to talk," Luz muffles out while hiding under the blankets.
"I'm not Eda, and I'm not leaving you alone, no matter how much you turn me away," Amity says while walking in.
Luz peers out from her cocoon of blankets and sees her cotton candy hair goddess of a girlfriend. "Amity? Shouldn't you be at Hexside?"
"I should, but when you bolted out of the cafeteria, I got concerned and came here."
"But your parents..."
"Don't bring my parents into this. I don't care what they say if they find out I skipped the last half of school. You're more important than school right now."
Luz feels her heart swelling, but also a hint of guilt and sadness.
Amity lowers herself to the floor and sits next to Luz.
"Luz, please tell me what's wrong."
"Nothing's wrong."
"Yes, there is." Amity sternly says.
"No, there isn't," Luz snaps back.
Amity inhales sharply at Luz's remark. "Luz, I know you. You always come to Hexside bouncing and happy to be there, but today? I saw a depressed Luz." Amity recalls sadly. "I saw you by your locker looking sluggish. I thought it was from the portal traveling but then after class, I was going to talk to you, but you walked right out the door."
Luz remembers well and starts pulling the blankets tighter again while Amity talks.
"Then at lunch? Gus, Willow, and I were so excited to here about your trip. But then you bolted on us?! All because Willow asked about your mother? You were beside yourself to see her when you finally got that last piece for the portal door."
Luz closes her eyes, trying not to think about that portal and her mother, but it isn't working.
"I don't understand Luz. Why did your run away from us? Eda told me you've been acting differently since you went though the portal," Amity says while raising her voice. "Why Luz? Why are you staying away from us? Why are you shutting us out?!"
Luz is squeezing her eyes harder than ever before. She hates that Amity is angry at her and is barely holding it together.
"What happened with the portal? You were excited to see your mother after all these months. And now you're not talking about it?" Amity's frustration is growing with Luz. "What happened between you and your mother that you're not telling me?!"
"I PROMISED TO LIVE WITH HER IN THE HUMAN REALM AFTER WE GET THE PORTAL WORKING!!!!" Luz finally screams out, tears streaming down her face.
Amity, taken aback by Luz's outburst, stares at her girlfriend.
"I told my mother that I chose to stay here, which is true" Luz says while crying. "And she's worried about my safety here and she thought she was the reason that I stayed here and I told her that wasn't true but my time was running out because the portal door was closing and she said promise me that I would live with her after the portal was working and I hesitated and I was getting pulled away from her and she was begging for me to promise her and I did promise her and now I DON'T KNOW WHAT TO DO!"
Luz launches herself into Amity, full on sobbing. They stay silent for a few minutes. Luz is hiccuping into Amity's shirt and Amity is rubbing Luz's back.
Amity is the first to break the silence. "Luz, I had no idea. But I promise, it'll be okay."
"How can it be okay?! I'll have to leave here and go live with my mother" Luz says sadly.
"I feel like I'm going to regret asking this question, but here it goes," Amity silently thinks. She takes a deep breath and asks "Do you want to live here?"
Luz looks up at her. "I do, but I want my mom to know that I'll be safe here and she has nothing to worry about, but I also want to live with her." Luz flops her head onto Amity shoulder "Ugh, I don't know what to do Amity."
"Well, I think first thing you need to do is tell Eda and everyone else what happened with your mother," Amity says.
Luz nods "I guess you're right about that."
"And then we can help you build another, more permanent portal."
"But what does that mean for..."
Amity stops Luz, "We will get to that later, but now, let's just enjoy the time we have now."
Luz smiles at Amity. "I'm sorry for not telling you about the portal. It's just, it's been hard thinking about if I do have to leave here that I would have to say goodbye to all of you."
"Well we're not going to think about that, are we? Amity says.
"No we're not" Luz replies. "And I'm sorry for making you mad at me..."
"Luz stop," Amity firmly says. "I should be the one apologizing. I pushed you too far to get information and I made you upset. That wasn't my intention when I came up here. You have every right to me mad at me."
"How can I be mad at my awesome girlfriend?" Luz beams with pride. "Honestly, I'm glad you forced it out of me because now I don't have that hanging over my head anymore."
"Glad I could help," Amity chuckles while pulling Luz into a hug.
"And you know what Luz?"
"What?"
"We can solve any problem. Do you know why?"
"Why?"
"Because we can fix this together." Amity smiles at Luz.
Luz beams at Amity, thinking back to the adventure into Willow's memory when she said that to Amity.
"Thanks Amity. I feel better."
"You're welcome. Do you want to go downstairs and tell Eda?"
"Not yet. I'm kinda tired from all the crying," Luz laughs. "Can we just stay like this for a while?"
Amity nods and starts to play with Luz's hair. Luz falls asleep within minutes, knowing that her girlfriend will always be there for her.

As a bisexual who watches toh - and has followed you for awhile cuz you're awesome - I agree with you wholeheartedly about Amity. It's not really talked about in the fandom because most people are willing to turn a blind eye to issues in queer ships, thanks to the lack of rep, which is kind of understandable but it's also telling creators that they don't need to develop a character if they're part of a queer ship. They'll be praised for it, even. It's absurd but... the community isn't exactly letting them think otherwise. Sorry for the rant, but it's so good to find someone who agrees!!
aw thanks.
i'm glad lum!ty was able to exist, to be this unambiguous and to go full canon gfs before the last possible second (especially given that this is a children's cartoon made by disney), but the romance does not compel me and i think it was not executed or paced well. i'm glad amity gets to be a lesbian/luz gets to be bi, and she can show clear attraction to girls in canon, but i think this particular girl she's attracted to just isn't right for her (and i'm speaking about both of them here) or for the story. it is so dumb that saying that is controversial.
and yeah we (fandom and at this point, now writers too) have this big problem where we hype up queer canon ships that are poorly-written or executed in a way that makes them toxic (by mistake), bland, or even Just Okay But Not That Compelling, because hey, at least it exists. and enforcing the idea that these ships in particular (and the characters within them) must be critique-proof, because of anxieties about homophobia dominating that criticism and the realization that saying that is a big weapon you can use in your ship war.
i get it, i do. but that's stupid. you aren't a bad person if you simply don't vibe with a (queer) ship, or if you don't think it was well-written. writers can fuck up all kinds of romances. it does not help at all to act like the queer ones (the sapphic ones specifically) are magically immune from being bad or not-well-executed. the only thing we'll get from it is (like with all other 'fictional character x is marginalized therefore you're not allowed to criticize them!' arguments) more shitty, watered-down, telegraphed or unintentionally toxic romance, because the people who write them will know they can get away with and be rewarded for putting little effort into them.
