Hellouu dream!! Good aftermoon! ^^
How are you today?? I hope you are good hihi :3
Sooo.. I have a little question that has been on my mind ever since I saw your art..
•I wanted to know more about the relationship between bellroc and them familiar dragon (I don't know if that's the term...)
•how did bellroc kill him??
•how did he meet this Dragon?
•Skrael already knew about all this??
(I know.. it's more than one question.. but I was curious...) byeeee!!👋👋 have a nice dayyy :3
kitty you are so sweet. thank you for indulging me and my little headcanons; i hope the ramblings that follow were as fun to read as they were to imagine.
what is a familiar? it comes from the same root as "family," but in classical latin familia generally means the *slaves* of a household (hence the english sense, used elsewhere in toa, of "a magical servant"). which isn't why i headcanon that bellroc wears their familiar's skull, by the way, though it would probably add to their general bemusement at modern magic-users' concept of the relationship. i've had this headcanon for such a long time, now, but despite wanting very badly to write something about it i've never actually gotten anything to a publishable state. (the one thing i have written recently about this is currently. 100-odd words of snippy banter/[INSERT SCENE-SETTING HERE], which feels like it doesn't quite count.) so. some bullet points, while i kick around some thoughts in the microwave of the mind.
yes, bellroc killed their familiar. they did not know that's what she was. they did not mean to do it.
azherin was a giant fuckoff dragon, the distillation of everything stories say dragons should be: vain, cunning, arrogant, unfathomably powerful. because it's my oc and my hc and therefore everything is based on my terrible taste, she is (mostly) feathered, and breathes silver fire (and occasionally lightning). she's also got a wife and kids but god if we fall down that rabbithole i really will never get to bed
the first time they see her, a slip of oil-black bleeding up from the edge of the sky, they feel a flash of some vague, fleeting connection. they wonder what it is, just for a moment, before (they think) they realize: the old familiar coil of fear, twisting to settle bright and lazy into their gut. they think she's smoke, from a particularly vicious wildfire.
when they find out what she actually is—for the first time since dying, in a particularly vicious wildfire—they think on how how strange it is, at this age, to find something they may fear more than that.
(the thought of "a familiar" never occurs to them. to either of them. bellroc never knew magic before receiving it violently and unexpectedly; skrael has heard of magic users with companions of varying sorts but if he's ever seen one, it's only been a mundane-looking creature like a bird or a sable marten. they wouldn't know the word as we use it now, and probably don't, for a long time.)
but bellroc does by now know magic, and by now knows it very well. always conscious that their mastery is earned—that they've had to work for it—but conscious that they are a master, all the same. they're the only person in the world to wear so much (or any) metal jewelry, let alone have a metal staff almost as tall as them. they might not quite openly think of themself as a god—yet—but they are certainly thinking about gods and godhood as a general concept, much more than they did while within the span of a normal human lifetime. they think about power, sure, about improving their craft, about impressing a certain someone, improving their lives; but also duty, obligation, right.
so when they find out a literal dragon is going around terrorizing defenseless human towns—well. they'll catch the devil from skrael later, for being so reckless. but in the moment, they protest: what else could they do?
as it turns out: even the most op of magical cavemen does not simply 1v1 a giant flying murderlizard.
especially one that can breathe lightning.
especially when their primary weapon is a giant metal stick.
skrael meanwhile is watching all of this—what. rivalry? folie à deux? he's been having odd dreams lately, infrequent, but insistent and recurrent, from his own yet-unknown familiar/skull source, which maybe is making him less charitable than he could be. but after watching bellroc definitely get their ass kicked and definitely be way more torn up about it than he'd expected: when they notice him being so dubious he must admit, he is perplexed. he understands bellroc's stated reasons for why they (tried to) intervene, that first time; it would be a terrible thing, he agrees, to find yourself in a town that a dragon has now decided is her personal pantry. but terrible shit happens all the time. however admirable it may be to try and stop it (and he does think it's admirable, because he's a sap) he is always, at heart, a pessimist.
even if you could have saved that one village—he means it gently, even if it doesn't quite come out right—you know she'll just move on to another.
and bellroc blanches. for the first time in a long time: they have a (small, but) serious fight.
because—bellroc's perspective is: they have all this power. all of this life, after dying, terribly; all of this magic, after a life of nothing of the kind. perhaps one mortal effort would make no difference; perhaps, even now, their effort would not tip the balance. as it certainly did not in that hill-town, they mutter, bitterly.
but they are no mortal, now. what's the good of having this power, if they don't even use it?
anyway bellroc and azherin end up running into each other 6-7 times. the last time, azherin just loses her shit at this insolent, interfering child:
Tumblr media
(please excuse the clumsiness here; this must be from. good god. twenty twenty-one)
...which ends predictably (though maybe not entirely so). and when skrael finds them, after, then he really lets them have it.

Imagine being forced to marry a ghost. You were chosen even though you had zero interactions with the person. The next thing you know you are in a wedding outfit and in front of a corpse. The family of the deceased assured the darling that they won’t have to do anything to the body. Just keep it in the guest room while you stay in the master bedroom. Then why did they forced you to wear something for a honeymoon night? Why do you feel something cold against your body when you’re alone?
tw - dubcon marriage, imprisonment, manipulation, implied gaslighting, generalized monster-fucking.
I mean, it's not quite as morbid as it sounds. They say it's a custom, a tradition, a last, last, last resort to make sure the spirit of their dear, deceased loved one doesn't wander the world, alone and lost, until their spirit fades away completely. They pay for your clothes and the catering, and they don't ask you to do much - just come on time, enjoy the festivities, stand where they tell you to and try not to look at the open casket next to the alter, a white sheet (thankfully) covering anything that might make you think better of saying 'I do'. It's not that bad, and by tears in everyone's eyes, the looks of relief, the quiet, half-choke 'thank you's you get after the ceremony, it does seem like you're really helping them. You feel like you're really helping them.
Then, there's the honeymoon. It's more of a vacation, more than anything, your willingness to go through with something so unorthodox rewarded with a few weeks spent by yourself in one of the family's 'shrine', just off the outskirts of your small town. There's electricity and running water and enough food to last you for months, not that you think you could stand the plain stone walls and confusing, isolating layout for so long. They've asked you to avoid going out, to stick to the main floor, to wear the clothes they left for you, all white and loose-fitting and softened, but there aren't any cameras, and there's no one around to make sure you actually do. You can leave whenever you want to, wear whatever you want to, even if you do feel a little guilty, even if it does feel like someone's watching you, sometimes, every now and then, when you wake up in the middle of the night or spend a little too much time in front of one of the doors you're not supposed to open. Even if you can swear you hear footsteps in the cellar, regardless of how many times you've checked to make sure you really are alone.
Even if you feel something in your bed, next to you, cold breath on the side of your neck, your mattress dipping under the weight of something that might've been human, once. There are claws, occasionally, talons that pull at your hair and scrap over your thighs, and fangs, brushing against the corner of your jaw, ghosting over your skin as that deep, gentle voice asks why you're not wearing what they asked you to, why you keep trying to get away from them, why their lovely, lovely bride won't sit still and play their part. They've never hurt you, or touched you, or done anything beyond linger at your side and run their calloused fingertips over your skin, but it's not like they have to, not when they're so much bigger than you, not when their eyes are so bright. It's not like they really have a reason to try and bring you closer, to drag you towards them against your will. It's not like they really have to.
Not when you've already given yourself away so beautifully.

Hmm could you maybe do A and C from the sfw alphabet with Tomoe and Mizuki?
—A and C with Tomoe and Mizuki
Tumblr media
Character(s): Tomoe and Mizuki
TW: Mentions of possessiveness
Notes: My boys, my dense little babies; of course I shall write for them
Tumblr media
—Tomoe
A = Affection (How affectionate are they? How do they show affection?)
His love languages are acts of service and quality time unless you're talking about when he was still a wild yokai (might actually add that as an option for swf alphabet because the two are quite different) and he's big in showing you his affection through actions and spending time with you though there is the dash of physical touch as well
He's a familiar so he is used to doing things for other people but it holds more meaning to him when it comes to his s/o
Rather than doing it out of obligation, he does it because he wants to make you happier and make life easier for you, going out of his way to do little things for you like make sure your good is cooked in a certain way that you mentioned that you liked it make sure that your clothes are arranged in a certain way that you prefer to have them in even if he says that how picky you are is "unnecessary"
He's obviously lying when he says it though
He doesn't struggle with words but simply being in your presence is definitely one thing he loves and is something that he gets to do very often
So you find him sending you unspoken affection when the two of your are just spending time with each other, maybe going out to get ice cream or shopping though he does like to stay physically close to you, being very possessive and protective of you
Sometimes he just likes to bask in the fact that you're his by having you as physically close to him as possible
C = Cuddles (Do they like to cuddle? How would they cuddle?)
He won't admit just how much he likes cuddles but he adores them, especially with how much he works
He isn't the type to ask you for cuddles, unless frustrated at which point he will just take you into your room and pull you down to the ground with him and lay down on your futon with you in his arms but he definitely wouldn't oppose to them at any time
Well, aside from them he's busy and can't take a break from his work for a moment but they're always appreciated even if he isn't too good at voicing it
He definitely prefers to be the big spoon, preferring to hold you than be held because he has a little bit of a power complex and likes to feel like he is able to protect you
It also gives him more leverage for teasing, putting him in a position where he can see your every reaction
Plus being the small spoon, as comfortable as he finds it, makes him feel much too vulnerable for his taste
He's quite possessive so he definitely likes being in a position where he can make sure that his arms are wrapped around you, regardless of your height, because it makes him almost feel like he in shielding you away from the rest of the world though specifically any prying eyes
He likes his time with you to be private and just between the two of you so any prying eyes who may it may not see him soft and vulnerable with you or even see you content like that are a big no-no
It's very handy that he's tall and wears very flowy kimonos
that way he can keep your peaceful, sound asleep expression to himself
—Mizuki
Tumblr media
A = Affection (How affectionate are they? How do they show affection?)
Good luck getting him away from you, he loves giving you affection
His love languages are physical touch and a bit of acts of service so he's all over you whenever he can be
With his deity having disappeared on him so suddenly, he couldn't help but feel that he hadn't done enough for her when was still at the shrine so he just sometimes feels like, if he shows you how much he cares for you and how much he needs you by his side, you won't leave him so he has a tendency to sometimes overwhelm you
He doesn't mean to but he just ends up doing so as a result of his insecurity, especially early on in your relationship
He loves giving you random kisses when you least expect them and doing little things for you though the latter probably comes from his being a familiar but he likes doing things for you, it makes him feel needed ;-;
Don't think that he's only on the giving side of affection either
He loves receiving any form of affection from you but he loves receiving physical affection and verbal affirmation the most
Give him a random loss on the cheek and tell him how well he's been doing and watch his face light up
He'll be sure to return the affection in full as well and most likely immediately hug you around the waist and it'll definitely be a struggle to get him to let go of you
He just really loves you okay? :')
C = Cuddles (Do they like to cuddle? How would they cuddle?)
This man loves cuddles so much and will drag you to cuddle with him at any given time of the day
Holding you and having you close to him is one of his favourite things
He finds them very reassuring with his past and it reminds him that you're with him and you aren't disappearing and also satisfies his need to be close to you
He loves being the little spoon when the two of you are cuddling because it makes him feel like you care about him enough to stay with him and never leave him and it makes him feel protected when he's with you
His arms wrapping around your waist and his head against your chest, listening to your heartbeat and the steady rise and fall of your chest with your consistent breathing
Feeling your arms around him and bringing him towards you and making him feel loved and wanted is one of the things he loves most in life
That and he can tighten his grip around you whenever you try to get up to make sure that you aren't leaving him
There are of course says where he wants to be the big spoon though
On days where he's feeling especially clingy or insecure, he likes having you in his arms instead of the other way around because that way he can make sure that you aren't getting away from him and aren't going to just disappear all of a sudden

Yandere Izuku Midoriya
Warnings: Yandere themes, kidnapping
Tumblr media
A very obsessive yandere.
Izuku pours himself into whatever he's interested him, so if you've caught his eye, best believe that he has notebooks upon notebooks that hold information about you.
They're very organized. Each notebook is sectioned off with different stuff about you. Your interests, what your room looks like, what you like to wear, etc.
He also has a shrine dedicated to you. It holds a shirt he managed to steal from the girls' locker room, your toothbrush from the dorms, a couple photos of you, and candles in your favorite scent.
He gets all this information by stalking you for months on end before eventually approaching you.
When Izuku does approach you, he's very nervous.
He finally gets to talk to the person that he's been dreaming of for months.
It's also very likely that he fell pretty fast for you. All he needed was one thing that got him hooked.
It could have been the one conversation he had with you, a shared interest, or an offhand compliment or encouragement.
It doesn't matter if you barely even know him, he needs you. He needs that spark again, that someone who will support him endlessly.
In return, he will be your hero. Izuku is intent on keeping you from all harm.
He would never hurt you himself. The worst punishment you'd receive would be isolation or having your possessions taken away.
But Izuku is very delusional.
Before approaching you, he spent months dreaming of you.
He built up these fantasies off of what he knew about you.
So, when he finally gets his hands on you, it really doesn't matter if you actually love him or not.
Izuku will act like you do even if you're kicking and screaming at him.
He'll act like everything is this perfect domestic paradise, even though there are locks on every door that only open with his voice. Even though you're locked in there nearly 24/7 without any means of escape.
There is very little chance that you will actually escape. Even if you make it past the doors, Izuku will immediately be notified of your absence and be on the chase.
It's not easy to leave Japan's Number One Hero.

A second part of the small gifts ask I sent but with my main boys, Jeff, EJ, Toby, and BEN. These boys with an s/o that likes to get creative and gift little things like art, a bracelets, or even a little clay figurine. Thank you
Sorry it takes me a while to get to your asks, writing for more creeps tires me out~ I still hope that you enjoy this~
Jeff:
Jeff will never understand how you're so kind to him with all of this, and he can't thank you enough. He hardly sees himself as deserving of gifts, and the fact that you give them to him so freely has him more flustered than he'd like to admit. He's a clumsy person, so he always keeps all your gifts put away in a place he knows they won't get damaged. He only wears the bracelets on days he isn't working, because he's scared of them getting torn or ruined and he wants to keep them safe.
BEN:
BEN has a special little corner of his room just for your stuff, which he claims is most definitely not a shrine dedicated to you, but you'd beg to differ on that point. He often fondly looks over the gifts when he's feeling down or missing you, and he even cleans them every now and then so they don't gather any dust. He never takes off your bracelets that you gift him because he views them as his special link to you throughout the day so that the two of you are never apart.
Toby:
Toby treasures your gifts more than anything he owns and he would worship the ground you walk on. He isn't used to receiving gifts, and the fact that you give them to him just makes him feel so special and so loved. He has a special section in his room just for the stuff you give him, and he has them all in a case so they're less likely to get damaged. He always wears and bracelets you gift him and views them as a form of good luck.
Eyeless Jack:
Jack is a bit flustered about all of your gift-giving. He's never really received that many gifts before or thought they were important, but the thought that you took time out of your day just to make something special for him has him growing more embarrassed than he'd like to admit. He proudly displays all of your gifts and uses them as the main source of decoration in his room, so happy and proud to have such a creative partner. He wears your bracelets on special occasions, not wanting to damage or ruin them. He thinks they're far too precious and special for that.

Delving into what chapter 2 of Bendy: Rewritten (or just the side scroller AU, as a couple people have called it- still working on a vaguely clever name hh) would be like, where there are choices and reactions! More canon divergence! Things set up and hinted at!
The background music changes. No shame to batim's music, I quite like it, but it can be better. Whenever Sammy's around (carrying the cutout, looking over the band room, giving his ritual spiel) a banjo is added to the bg track. The followers get string instruments, more added depending how many are in the room. The sacrifice room is mainly string instruments
Sammy is somewhat a lost one. He loses his buff rights and is a mix of his pre- and post-update designs. I say somewhat because, while he is skeletal, he drips a lot and doesn't really have feet.
Sammy actually has followers. It can be pieced together from notes and dialogue that he split from the Lost Harbor after a close run in with Bendy permanently mangled his body and converted him to worship. He brought a few other lost ones with him (like, only a dozen but a couple died on the way). They wear Bendy masks, too, yet he's the only one wearing pants (mostly to hold his legs together). He also wears gloves to hold his fingers together, and only takes them off for brief periods to play an instrument before having to put them back on. Bendy left him with a lot of lasting damage
Tumblr media
They all look the same and they know it hh
He's a proper prophet figure now that people look up to him. If Henry can find them huddled around a statue in prayer or drawing a ritual circle, they will talk about how much hope he gives them and how kind he is, despite how strict or overly optimistic he can be at times.
The followers' opinion of Henry changes with his behavior. Suggest Sammy is nuts? Say Bendy is evil? Drink too much soup? Break cutouts? They don't like that. Ask to learn more, give them some fresh soup, maybe even draw Bendy for them if Henry comes across fresh paper, and they'll appreciate it.
The cutouts are decorated with soup and candles. Drink a couple cans and the followers won't notice, drink more and they'll be upset, drink them all and they'll get concerned. Ink rats will scuttle out of hiding and can be found licking the empty cans.
Oh yeah you think humans were the only thing the ink affected? No there are ink rats and they scuttle around. Sometimes they become an enemy if multiple melt/fuse together and it's just a Lump Of Rat
"Did you drink the soup?" "No, did you?" "We don't have mouths! We can't eat!" "Who drank all the soup then?" "I don't know, but now there are rats everywhere!"
The whole chapter 2 area is bigger, kind of. Lots more signs of being lived in, with offices turned into little bedrooms and such. The followers are shy, though, and lurk behind locked doors, so finding them is tricky. Signs of life are everywhere but finding the life itself is difficult. Finding ones that talk more than a sentence is even harder.
Sammy is unhinged. Well-meaning, but ultimately mentally...cracked. He claims to have visions he interprets, but it's ambiguous whether they're nightmares/dreams or if Bendy's messing with him. He genuinely believes that Bendy will set them free, and he wants the best for his sheep. He'd be amicable if he wasn't trying to sacrifice Henry.
Instead of pressing the switches to open that first door, Henry had to find a pipe valve. A new "mechanic" of sorts is draining flooded halls. Ink pours down from piped above in an unpassable wall, and one or two valve are needed to shut it off completely.
Remember those notes I mentioned earlier? Well, some found around the music department contain buckets of how the followers see Sammy and their situation in general. They range from "oh hey here's Sammy's favorite tune-" to "note: don't play the organ! D:"
It's possible to find old newspapers and comics. Some of the pictures have been carefully cut out and pasted on the walls in various memorials, ranging from Bendy letting them outside to Sammy being "blessed" by the Ink Demon.
Some of the more petty depictions paint Alice as a jerk. She's an angel, he's a demon, so they're opposites. Since Bendy's so great, she must be awful! Rumors of a cruel Alice in deeper levels are hinted at.
The band room is slightly different. The projector's bulb is burst and there's a sticky note on it saying something about how touching it when you're made of ink is a bad idea, and to fix the projector before Sammy notices. Henry has to find a lightbulb and fix it now before he can turn it on.
The fight after opening the sanctuary affects the followers' opinions. They begin to realize what Sammy has in store for Henry. Killing all the searchers make them either makes them wince or frustrated, depending on their view on him up til that point.
Tumblr media
I feel like you could probably click/interact with the banister to look over and it shows a still image of the band room below, and it shows whether or not the projector is fixed/playing and also shows any Bendy cutouts that pop up. I tried to draw that but couldn't get the angle I wanted, so
Sammy's sanctuary is like...just a big ol Bendy shrine. It's also where he sleeps, writes songs to Bendy, and where his banjo is kept. He has a Bendy plush on his bed
The further the chapter goes on, the quieter the followers are to Henry. They're gathering candles and offerings of personal belongings. They might be bittersweet, neutral, or glad to be away from him, depending on Henry's actions.
Jack is important to Sammy. They worked closely together and so they somewhat remember each other. He acts as Sammy's personal treasurer and doesn't let go of anything given to him. The first encounter with Jack is relatively the same, with needing to grab a valve from him. However, instead of holding the valve, it's sitting on the box
Henry's notes in his sketchbook also change depending on his interactions with things. If he annoys the followers and develops a bad relationship with them, he'll treat them like blind fools. If he helps them or is generally nice, he'll sound more sympathetic towards their situation and wish them well.
One is in the infirmary, badly hurt, missing a leg, practically a searcher, and delusional after getting just grazed by Bendy's aura. They believe they've been blessed by his presence, despite falling apart more and more by the hour (Bendy and any ink creature do not go together-). Henry can kill them and put them out of their misery, if he so chooses. The others won't like that.
Whether Henry kills him or not, Jack remembers. Getting items from him in the future becomes harder if he's killed multiple times, until eventually he's downright scared (I'll delve into more detail on the mess that is chapter 3). Befriending him completely later in chapter 3, on the other hand, will make the task easier.
Killing Jack triggers a horror vision. Henry briefly becomes unable to move, visibly distressed and looking around until the vision ends.
Tumblr media
Not necessarily the sewers you first encounter him in, but close enough. You know you've entered an area Jack's in if there's a random item on a box that's under a light in an otherwise dim ink-flooded room
He goes through 'stages.' First the valve is on a box. Henry tries to grab it, but Jack (moving through the ink) pushes the box away. The methods of dealing with him is a messy web of cause-and-effect, with chances to crush him, corner the box slowly and steal the valve, it rush at it and cause it to slide off, or snatch his hat and bargain. (It's possible to steal his hat, kill him, and then keep/wear his hat, but why would you do that? Jack would forever loathe Henry and later on Sammy may ask for it back)
Tumblr media
Nothing will stop Sammy from knocking Henry out. No matter how kind or cruel Henry is to his followers, Sammy will smack him over the head with a dustpan. He can't run, but the man can be sneaky if he wants to be, lurking through shadows and phasing in and out of the ritual portals.
(Clarification: because it would be a side scroller and the player could see Sammy sneaking up on Henry, instead there's a ritual circle on the wall that he'll jump out of when Henry walks past it.)
The sacrifice room is more of a hallway. The followers are all watching from the sidelines, peering through knocked out walls and over makeshift fenceposts. Candles and other offerings are around Henry. Sammy gives his spiel as always, first starting with a quiet "that face..." whispered mostly to himself but then using his Big Loud Musician Prophet voice to put on a show about how grand the sacrifice will be and how happy Bendy will be. The followers get excited for it.
Tumblr media
Messy rendition but you get the picture
Sammy enters the room off to the side and calls for the Ink Demon. Ink leaks from the vents, and his aura is making some of the followers unsteady/weak. They become more restless, and unstable, until the calling reaches its climax (Sammy also sounds out of breath and his voice becomes wet and labored) and Bendy arrives out of sight. Sammy is torn apart, as per usual, though it's a slower, more audible mauling, and drags on through Henry's escape.
Some followers flee into the ink, while one or two are liquidated just by Bendy's aura. Others panic and attack Henry when he breaks free, messed up by Bendy's aura and so they resemble searchers.
Whether or not Henry powers through the onslaught or axes the frenzied followers may alter the number of followers he encounters later on, and (combined with how he'd treated them) how they react to seeing him again. "Oh I kind of remember you" vs "I don't blame you for using the axe" vs "Did you slaughter your way down here, too?"
Like in the updated chapters in game, the you can see ink machine lowering past crates/wood boards
Bendy actually pries himself up out of the ink with effort. Like, hands planted on the ground, lurching up, ink sloughing off of him, generally more detailed for a 2D animation.
Boris time! The boy himself peeks out from behind a wall before stepping out of the shadows
Feel free to send an ask for clarification/more detail about anything- I'm happy to go on more tangents!

Conversation
Unmastered Interview Part 1
Emma: Hello and welcome to Unmastered. I'm Emma.
Gohar: And I'm Gohar.
Emma: And we are uncut and on the record with your favorite bands. So today, we're sitting down with someone who I'm really excited to talk to. A lot of my friends and people who have been on the show said great things about her. So, we're just gonna go ahead and jump into it. Can you tell us what's your name? We do a couple of ice breakers like we always do.
Zealyn: Okay.
Emma: So what's your name? Where you're from? Any strange phobias you have? And if you were any color crayon, what would it be and why?
Zealyn: Okay, you might need to remind me with the questions.
Emma: That's okay.
Zealyn: Thanks for having me! *all of them laughs* I'm Zealyn, what was the second question?
Emma: Where you're from?
Zealyn: Okay, I'm Zealyn, I'm originally from Boston and, you know, moved out to LA five years ago for music.
Emma: As we all do.
Zealyn: Do you say if I was a favorite color crayon?
Emma: Almost umm.. any phobias and if you were any color
crayon what would you be and why?
Zealyn: Okay. Well, phobias... gosh, I- guys this is so gross but I'm terrified of throwing up when people throwing up like it really freaks me out if I'm around it, I need to leave the room like right away. That's like way too- that's really gross.
Emma: Is it like sympathy like, no that we're talking about vomit? Is it like sympathy vomit?
Zealyn: It's like- No. It's like terrified like I hate it. If anyone even just mentions like, "I'm not feeling good." I'm like, "I'm leaving the room." I'm so scared of it umm... that's a huge phobia of mine. Umm... and if I was a color crayon I... right now, I think I'd be yellow because I'm incorporating a lot of color and lights into-
Gohar: Your brand?
Zealyn: My brand. Yeah, even though I'm wearing all black right now.
Emma: That's okay. People can't see it, I don't know.
Zealyn: But yeah.
Gohar: You're preparing for the rain.
Zealyn: Yeah, yeah, that's right. The next few nights. Yep.
Emma: Yeah, I know, your colors on Instagram like a big fan of all these.
Gohar: It's super vibrant.
Zealyn: Thanks.
Emma: It's really vibrant and like a lot of like the color play is super fun to like look at.
Zealyn: Thank you!
Emma: I was like going, "Oh my gosh, I just feel so like light and airy looking at this" and I'm like "Wow, I want this to be my closet".
Zealyn: That's good because if you looked at my Instagram two years ago, it was all black. Like black and gray and like just really moody and with this new wave of music, I
just wanted to add color and light and yeah, so.
Emma: There you go. I love it. I can't wait to see how it keeps up, I'm like a big like, I love photography. I love seeing how people kind of take a brand idea and like market themselves and just like be themselves through like visual art as well as like you know the music you create that's seeing how people yeah corporate that is always really fun so I'm like such a big fan of like oh like go through someone's Instagram and I'm like, "Ooh! Colors here. I see what you're doing, it's mysterious, I like it like..." I love that stuff.
Zealyn: Same. All artists that I love and I'm inspired by, I go to their Instagram, check out their branding, their photos, and stuff. Unfortunately, it makes a big difference, social media nowadays you know, and branding and everything. But it also is great so...
Emma: It's just another form of expression like if we wanna stop calling it branding, we can always call it expression. Creative expression.
Zealyn: Yeah. That's better.
Emma: It's like a way of expressing how you're feeling in whatever moment of your life that you're in so it's fun to see what people do. We really love it. So, you two met.
Gohar: Yeah. That's right.
Emma: Holiday party, give me the details cause I don't know.
Zealyn: Yeah.
Gohar: Okay I- I'll start.
Zealyn: Go ahead.
Gohar: Umm... I went to the We Found New Music, Grant Owens presents Holiday Party.
Zealyn: Mhm.
Gohar: Uhh... Back in 2018. Wow, it feels like such a long time ago.
Emma: All I'm saying-
Zealyn: It feels like a month in a half ago.
Emma: All I'm saying this has been a long January.
Zealyn: Yes.
Gohar: It has been. I think, every year we say January last an eternity and then the rest of the year zooms by.
Zealyn: Yeah.
Emma: This is the first year I've like fully felt that cause I'm like, "oh my gosh." like I mean, by the time this comes out, it will be like the first week of February.
Zealyn: Yeah. *laughs*
Emma: But like still like, it's been a long January.
Gohar: So I was there, there were maybe one of two people before you performed and then you went up and then I was there with my team and we were just like *gasps*
Zealyn: Aww.
Gohar: You can't see my expression but it was, you know that emoji that's like-
Zealyn: Yep.
Gohar: Me and Art went up to you and we introduced ourselves and you were just phenomenal. And I remember you telling me cause I introduced myself and then Arpita introduced herself and you're like, "Whoa your names are so unique."
Zealyn: They are. They really are. I've never heard them before.
Gohar: And yeah. That was a fun experience and I knew I wanted to get you on the show like then and there.
Zealyn: Thank you for that because you guys are doing something really cool here. I saw that you did Disco Shrine and LeyeT and just you're getting really cool artists on the show.
Emma: Disco Shrine does say hello by the way. I talked to her earlier.
Zealyn: Aww. Hi!
Emma: Shout out to Disco Shrine!
Zealyn: No, I truly loved what you guys are doing. And talk about branding, I love your guys' branding and the three photos you posted each artist.
Emma: Aww man.
Gohar: Emma, Absolutely fantastic but bad aesthetic.
Emma: I'm trying. We'll get there.
Zealyn: I'm really glad we met at that show. I just remember when you guys came up to me, it was so- just like welcoming and you guys had such like warm hearts like you know what I mean?
Gohar: Aww. I'm so glad.
Emma: Yeah, it's what we're trying to be.
Gohar: If I could put a smile on anyone's face, that's a win for me. Yeah.
Emma: I think my biggest thing is when I go to shows like- I kind of like get a feel for like if the artist is someone
who like wants to talk or doesn't want to talk.
Zealyn: Oh yeah.
Emma: 'Cause sometimes you can just tell like they're just not down for it but like... I can at least make someone like... feel like not pressured because I know sometimes like observing people like go up to artists and act a certain away I'm always just like, "What's up?" Just kind of get that like just warm- because we're all people. I try to get down with that like people level.
Gohar: You know what you're right we are people.
Emma: Shut up
*All of them laugh*
Zealyn: No, I know what you mean though. Because, especially in LA, it's super hit or miss.
Emma: Exactly.
Zealyn: Lots of people have egos, lots of people try to be too cool or you know, yeah.
Gohar: Dude, what the heck? I just like umm... not too long ago, I saw a prompt that said, "You can be successful and nice" and I'm like, "That's it! That's the key!"
Zealyn: Yeah.
Gohar: You could be successful and nice.
Emma: You just have a billboard on one of those in every block in LA just like, "You can be successful and nice!"
Zealyn: They should. A lot of people need to be constantly reminded of it for sure. Umm... But yeah. I feel super lucky whenever I'm at a show and all the other people playing are so nice like cause that doesn't happen often. Usually, there's at least one person with an ego or whatever but umm... yeah, it's really cool when you meet the people in LA that are genuine and just friendly.
Emma: I feel like there's a lot there once you start like-
Zealyn: Yeah.
Emma: Cause you know like there's like the whole six degrees of separation and like you know everyone kind of has their own circle?
Zealyn: Uh-huh.
Emma: Once you find that kind of like one person who has that, you get introduced to their circle and their people and then you realize like a lot of these really like kind and very wonderful people all kind of like hang out together and flock-
Zealyn: Yeah. So true.
Emma: You know like they're in their own flock of people and that's really cool because once you meet one, it kind of like Domino effects. You start meeting-
Gohar: Exactly.
Emma: A ton of people and I think that's really great because we met LeyeT, Disco Shrine, now you. So it's just like this fun Domino fantasy where it leads.
Zealyn: Yeah. Absolutely. I agree.
Gohar: That's cool. We're super glad- I'm super glad you guys met and I'm super glad to hear that.
Zealyn: Yeah! Me too. Thanks.
Emma: Let's go ahead and kind of get a little bit of background about yourself.
Zealyn: Okay.
Emma: How was music a part of your childhood and like how was it incorporated in you growing up and all of that?
Zealyn: Uh so I, fortunately, was having(?) a super musical family. My dad sings and plays piano, that's where I started playing the piano from him. My mom sings beautifully and plays guitar, I learned everything about singing from her. And then my brother picks up anything like he plays piano, guitar, bass. He's mainly a drummer, he also sings so well like he plays everything. He's so talented.
Gohar: So like your family has more talent than I have in my parents?
*All laugh*
Zealyn: My family together- they're so awesome umm... but yeah. We- I'd you know grow up in Boston and just did music there and all- a lot of my friends did music so I just kind of grew up around it and always was inspired by you know what other people were doing and umm... When I was 19 and I moved out here for music and... which is so young when I think about it. Like, it's kind of terrifying.
Emma: Did you move out here with your family or yourself?
Zealyn: No, it was me and my best friend.
Emma: Wow.
Zealyn: And when she was younger, she was 18.
Emma: Wow, good for you guys.
Zealyn: Our parents must have been like, "What are you doing?" but yeah, I'm so glad I did though, it was you know. It takes a while to love LA and I'm glad I did at a younger age and then.
Gohar: Oh good.
Zealyn: Yeah
Gohar: I have a follow-up question.
Zealyn: Yes.
Gohar: You said you grew up in Boston. What's the music community like there versus here in LA?
Zealyn: Umm... well I'm not super experienced because I did move out here when I was 19.
Gohar: Mm-hmm.
Zealyn: So a lot of the... you know. I just did a lot of like music theater in high school and stuff so I didn't really get to see a lot of the Boston scene but my brother is in the band called Valley Heart and umm...
Gohar: Hold on. I'm writing this down.
Emma: Take note everyone.
Zealyn: Yeah just exactly how it- you know sounds, Valley Heart. So I kind of see what the Boston scene is like through them and it's very different than LA. LA is super pop, electronic, R&B like very-
Emma: Oh okay.
Zealyn: And Boston, there's not as much.
Gohar: I feel like there would be a lot more rock and roll.
Zealyn: Yeah. A lot of rock and roll and lot of I don't know if it's rapper/R&B but like yeah, it's a lot of really underground stuff. Where LA is very- you know all the big people come out of it, you know.
Gohar: Which is kind of strange to me because there's a lot of places in LA like the Viper Room whiskey a go-go, places like that are catered more toward rock and roll because those clubs were extremely popular 60, 70s, 80s when rock and roll started you know becoming a thing and now, they host a whole bunch of rock stuff it's- if you go in for example to the whiskey go-go, it's like I-I-I think rock and roll throughout here because-
Zealyn: Oh yeah.
Gohar: And every once in awhile, they have pop sets, some jazz sets, and whatnot because you know you have to have variety but I feel like it doesn't fit the environment.
Zealyn: I mean they're definitely- yeah like you're right, it was definitely still like a rock scene here, it's just different. Yeah, I don't know.
Emma: Well, what you said kind of like stuck out to me was the comparison I hear there's a lot more like electronic and like synth-like in pop and like I never actually consider that thought about that cause now that I'm thinking about it like, "Wait like so much of these artists like they are here in their based here," like I've never even considered to think that you know that the other side of the country wouldn't like connect with that as much. But now I'm like, "You're right oh my gosh."
Zealyn: So to put it into perspective, planning a show out here, I can very quickly come up with oh at least eight people that I can picture playing on a bill with like all
these people are similar to me similar sounds let's play a show together, awesome. But in Boston, it's really
hard to find like an electronic pop artist out there and I know that they exist, they're just harder to find. So the Boston music scene is definitely still great and awesome and that there's a lot of music but it's harder to find the electronic pop artists and maybe I'm way off cuz I don't live there anymore but that's what it seems like being over here.
Part 2 coming soon.
