GET TO KNOW THE MUN

𝐰𝐡𝐚𝐭 𝐦𝐚𝐤𝐞 𝐲𝐨𝐮 𝐩𝐢𝐜𝐤 𝐮𝐩 𝐲𝐨𝐮𝐫 𝐜𝐮𝐫𝐫𝐞𝐧𝐭 𝐦𝐮𝐬𝐞𝐬 ? Usually witnessing them in action and then just deciding that I neeed them. Aku was my self-insert, but everyone after that was just this deep and overfull love that I felt for the character and just really wanted to explore them. I... Also seem to have a thing about picking up old men. I dunno, y'all, I collect the old guys. It's a wonder why I never picked up Clavell. But Hanekoma, Byron, Saguaro, Cryano, Souan, and Rindo all got picked up for this reason. Abe was someone I created as a result of wanting to flesh out my Hanekoma's background and just grew from an NPC into his own thing. And as for all the folks over at @networkscrambled, I picked them up because I felt like there were a ton of characters in TWEWY that just didn't get enough love. I need more research to properly flesh the blog out, tho. OTL

𝐢𝐬 𝐭𝐡𝐞𝐫𝐞 𝐚𝐧𝐲𝐭𝐡𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐲𝐨𝐮 𝐝𝐨𝐧'𝐭 𝐥𝐢𝐤𝐞 𝐭𝐨 𝐰𝐫𝐢𝐭𝐞 ? Mm... Probably just smut. I think that's the biggest thing. And even then, there's stuff there I want to explore even though I don't like it. In some very rare instances I'm willing to go with it, with people I have talked a lot to and really trust. When the situation calls for it and the muses are ready for that step. When it comes most to anything else, I have no trouble. Angst, whump, etc. Oh, but of course, there are the obvious unmentionables things I won't write. Minor x adult, non-con, incest, etc. I won't touch those with a ten-foot-pole. But I feel like those were fairly obvious.

𝐰𝐡𝐚𝐭 𝐝𝐨 𝐲𝐨𝐮 𝐞𝐧𝐣𝐨𝐲 𝐰𝐫𝐢𝐭𝐢𝐧𝐠 ? I'll be honest, I really enjoy writing ships. Platonic ships, familial ships esp., romantic ships, hate ships. Whatever. I really love exploring the dynamics between two or more characters and seeing how they perceive each other and explore each other and develop together as they grow and change and confront themselves. Character connections is always what gets me hyped for books and tv series and movies and any kind of storytelling and I just really love doing it. I really love writing any kind of genre that can bounce off of those, be it sad or happy. But really, any time I get to write at all is a good time.

𝐡𝐨𝐰 𝐝𝐨 𝐲𝐨𝐮 𝐜𝐨𝐦𝐞 𝐮𝐩 𝐰𝐢𝐭𝐡 𝐡𝐞𝐚𝐝𝐜𝐚𝐧𝐨𝐧𝐬 ? Hm. I think I'll take something really small that I notice and then just run with it as far as I can, stretch it out as much as I can until that one thing becomes the foundation of that character. I remember reading a transcript for an interview in which it was explained (roughly, because I can no longer remember), that Hanekoma was designed as a character that was on the up and up but was still messy. Or... something to that effect. I won't use quotations because I can't remember the exact quote, but it was like that. And I also remembered that Hanekoma called himself a gambler. And so using that information, I built Hanekoma as a man who in life had had a gambling addiction that ruined him, but that he was "on the up and up but still messy". And that became an anchor to how I built every headcanon after that. Similarly, I noticed Saguaro was the only teacher to continue to use honorifics with your name (Master or Miss) even after befriending you as well as noticing his insistence on cleanliness, and that was how I decided he was a butler in his past, which then lead to be the foundation of every other headcanon for him. It's admittedly a strange process, but it works for me!

𝐝𝐨 𝐲𝐨𝐮 𝐰𝐫𝐢𝐭𝐞 𝐢𝐧 𝐬𝐢𝐥𝐞𝐧𝐜𝐞 𝐨𝐫 𝐝𝐨 𝐲𝐨𝐮 𝐩𝐥𝐚𝐲 𝐦𝐮𝐬𝐢𝐜 ? I write better when I play music, by far, but I almost never do. And this is simply because I forget every single time to start it up before I start writing. And even if I do remember, I usually then go on to pause it to do something and forget to turn it back on. It's the worst.

𝐝𝐨 𝐲𝐨𝐮 𝐩𝐥𝐚𝐧 𝐫𝐞𝐩𝐥𝐢𝐞𝐬 𝐨𝐫 𝐰𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐭𝐡𝐞𝐦 ? I tend to wing them. The only planning I ever do is when I see and read my partner's reply but am unable to reply when I get it. So I spend all of the time until I get to it daydreaming about how I'm gonna respond. I think, as a reactive sort of roleplayer, I just want to be able to feel the emotions of my muse as they're feeling them, going through the reply and feeling how they'll react to it right away. With a lot of pre-planning, I feel like I kind of lose a sense of my character, and it feels more detached, so I can't get those real heavy emotions in my reply. So I think I do wing it as much as possible.

𝐝𝐨 𝐲𝐨𝐮 𝐞𝐧𝐣𝐨𝐲 𝐬𝐡𝐢𝐩𝐩𝐢𝐧𝐠 ? Oh ho. Oh, yes. I think shipping is like my bread and butter. I did mention that in one of the questions above. All types of ships are all so good to me, and I love love writing them. I have so much fun squishing little guys together in various ways.

𝐰𝐡𝐚𝐭'𝐬 𝐲𝐨𝐮𝐫 𝐚𝐥𝐢𝐚𝐬 / 𝐧𝐚𝐦𝐞 ? My name is Kohitsuji, or Kohi for short. When I first joined tumblr I went by Aku, however, so it wouldn't be uncommon to hear someone refer to me by that name. I stopped using Aku because people were confusing me for someone else, but I really like the wordplay between "lamb" and "coffee" for this blog especially, so I'm actually kind of glad I changed it these days. ^^

𝐚𝐠𝐞 ? I'm 29 now, and I'll be turning 30 at the end of this year.

That being said, Sibling brought home two new records and one was Badger and the other was Alexander Rabbit which were both excellent bands.

𝐥𝐚𝐬𝐭 𝐦𝐨𝐯𝐢𝐞 𝐲𝐨𝐮 𝐰𝐚𝐭𝐜𝐡𝐞𝐝 ? I'm pretty sure the last movie I watched was 101 Dalmatians, the ah, Disney animated version.

𝐟𝐚𝐯𝐨𝐫𝐢𝐭𝐞 𝐬𝐞𝐚𝐬𝐨𝐧 ? Fall definitely. Autumn, whatever ya call it. I love the spring-like weather without all the pollen coming with it. The beautiful colors of the clear sky and the dappling leaves. I love how the air starts to smell different and how the temps drop low enough for me to start wearing sweaters again. I love the spicy smells that come with fall, from foods to perfumes. I love fall the most, it's very cozy.

𝐝𝐨 𝐲𝐨𝐮 𝐡𝐚𝐯𝐞 𝐚 𝐭𝐮𝐦𝐛𝐥𝐫 𝐛𝐞𝐬𝐭 𝐟𝐫𝐢𝐞𝐧𝐝 ? So many! Well. I worry about calling people my friends and best friends when I don't 100% know for sure that they feel that way about me or would even appreciate me saying that about them. I have a lot of people here that I really really love. And I hope they care about me, too. But I might just stick with a very small number of names that I know for sure they feel the same way. First, there's @mundanemiseries who tagged me in this in the first place~ ^^ Kellin is so so sweet to me and has been such a help to me and I really love their muses. Joel and Hanekoma are so sweet together~ @wrongtrain is another. Morton has been my friend here for such a long time, and they're the one person I feel like can actually unlock my brain to understand what's going on with me most of the time. I never feel quite so understood as I do when I'm talking to Morty. I love them so so much and I love writing with them when they're around to do so, whoever they've got the space for that day. And I would be remiss not to mention @justiceburst, who was one of the first Joshua muns I ever interacted with and soon became my canon Joshua. Dusty may be writing new characters now, but they're no less engaging of a writer and they're still such a close friend to me. I care so deeply for them and everything we've been through together. ^^ Then there's @fangedstories. Roxy has been consistently active with me since meeting me, which is something that still surprises me. XD I'm really grateful to her for putting up with me so much. @lollipopsandgunshots is another. Katee talks to me so much and we've clicked so well together ooc. I love the work we've done with our muses, too, and especially that Katee is one of the few folks that I can actually get ideas for Aku with. ^^ There's also @phoenix-flamed, who has been so kind and caring towards me since the moment we met. I am so grateful to be able to have Vonny to talk to when I need it, though I admit that I don't poke them nearly enough. Still, I have them to thank for Hanekoma's whole FFXVI verse, so they continue to be a big inspiration to me regardless. ^^ And last but not even remotely the lest, @rubiesintherough has become such a dear friend to me. I used to be so afraid of Ruby, wanting to interact and never really knowing if I could stand up to her impeccable writing. But I am so so glad I finally reached out to start talking to her because she's so nice and so fun to talk to and I love all of her muses so so much. I feel like I've been thoroughly blessed with an abundance of friends~!

For the Opinion Meme || Still accepting!

Sexuality Headcanon: Per usual, I do HC him as bisexual, with a slight leaning toward het preferences, and super romantic when he's involved with someone. But I also just imagine that he holds himself apart emotionally as much as he can so that he can focus "without distractions."

Gender Headcanon: Cis male.

A ship I have with said character: I really do love Angeal/Genesis, and I like Angeal/Sephiroth. I can see why Angeal/Genesis/Sephiroth is popular. That said, I think my favorite is probably Angeal/Zack, but I notice people don't really lean into the whole, "mentor/mentee" part of their relationship when it comes up?

I might just be unlucky when I'm looking for it, but I want angst over that. XD

I also adore the idea of Angeal and Shotgun (Freyra/Freya), since they're both from the same part of the world and his dad was a monster hunter while her family clearly hunted things (monsters?! it sounds right) for sport. I like to think that if Angeal and Genesis hadn't escaped to go to Midgar and become SOLDIERs, Freya's family would have been trying to arrange a marriage between her and Gen, and Gen was just like, "Omg, no, she and Angeal are a much better match, thanks."

A BROTP I have with said character: Mm. That's easy. Angeal+Genesis and Angeal+Sephiroth, yes please.

Now, outside of that standard set, I think that Angeal and Reeve would get on pretty great as bros (who's surprised here), and I'd love to watch Angeal+Rude. Rude could hustle him at pool a few times before Angeal realizes that he's been had.

Also, I'm firmly of the opinion that Angeal would just adopt Reno if Reno was left in his range for longer than a few minutes.

A NOTP I have with said character: I... am not a fan of Angeal/Cloud? But to be honest, I'm not a fan of Angeal, Genesis, or sane!Sephiroth with Cloud. I just can't see it.

That said, if you enjoy that, then by all means. GO FORTH AND SHIP.

A random headcanon: I like to HC that Angeal often sits in on meetings for Lazard any time that Lazard is unavailable. And that more than once, Reeve's personal assistant, Chelle, has noticed him struggling with dealing with the insanity that is the political machine of Shinra, and after the second time of watching him fumble through a meeting, she appeared at his office door with her notebook to tell him that he did great.

She knows it doesn’t feel like he did, but it was really good. And then she offers him her notes that she uses when she has to sit in for Reeve. And like. They’re mostly notes about the people in the meeting, but also notes about how to talk to them?

Palmer: Use small words. Encourage him to think of things as a business. He’s got a head for that since he still runs his family’s business.

Scarlet: Avoid direct engagements. Gently praise recent weapon tech, but be sure to imply that you expected slightly better. It keeps her focused on something other than what you’re doing. Etc.

General Opinion over said character: I like Angeal a lot. I think he makes a nice balance for the Sephiroth+Genesis dynamic, and honestly, it was really fun to see the influence he had on Zack (and by proxy, on Cloud). I love that he's a flawed individual just as much as the other Firsts are instead of being a shining paragon of perfection.

I'd offer a bonus song, but I've not actually written much with Angeal, so I just don't have any for him specifically. All of my stuff for Angeal is heavily filtered through Zack or Genesis.

WHAT IS YOUR OTP FOR YOUR CHARACTER(S)?

That depends on who I'm RPing with. Obviously, I have lots of love for a certain ship, but I love all of Flora's ships and the different people she's gotten to meet/be with. My OTP out of Mandy's (@mandysxmuses) muses will always be Flora and Jemand because of that being our very first ship, and I've seen them develop the most. They've also had ups and downs all through their relationship due to how Jemand used to be and how the Void is. Though, I wouldn't say I have an OTP ship out of every ship Flora has. There are other OTP's I have where I have multiple ships with someone, but Mandy is the one that's probably been seen the most on my blog.

HOW LARGE DOES THE AGE GAP HAVE TO BE TO MAKE IT UNCOMFORTABLE?

I don't really mind, to be honest. Maybe it's because of the fact my mom is 5 years older than my dad, but age gaps haven't really bothered me. I can understand the issue with them, but I don't really mind as long as the ship is between consenting adults.

HOW FAR DO STEAMY MOMENTS HAVE TO GO BEFORE THEY ARE CONSIDERED NSFW?

Well, I will not post any NSFW on this blog, so if anyone wants to do that, then it would probably be best taken to Discord. But I've also struggled deciding this distinction myself. I haven't figured out how far it is too far for this blog myself, so I just try to avoid it entirely.

ARE YOU SELECTIVE WHEN SHIPPING?

Not really. Most people have approached me for ships, which I kinda like. Because I'm the type who gets nervous mentioning about ships and whether someone wants to do that. At least I know that person is interested. The only thing I ask is that they've had some interaction prior so I can have an idea of their chemistry and develop an attachment.

WHO ARE OTHER CHARACTERS YOU SHIP YOUR CHARACTER WITH?

Flora has many ships that I absolutely love! Like Dino from Shiro's @cioccolino, Xhilohrnia or Nia from @nascentwaves, Blaise's Kai from @voraxiia, Akihito from @thelazyeditor, and many more! I even have many more ships with @mandysxmuses and @eunciia. Most, if not all of Flora's current ships, are on her relationships doc, so feel free to ask about any of them!

Mm, it's not really a requirement or anything. If it happens naturally, that's just as awesome, too. I'm chill with whatever. As much as i dwell in the honkai fandom like chilling on a calm river, i also despise it at times. Honkai fandom has this sense of superiority complex over genshin fandom, which make sense considering the multiple drama on twitter. coupled with internalized hate from the fact genshin is getting much more popularity than honkai.

I get that story writting wise honkai is better than genshin but thats still subjective and i hate comparing those two games since on the get got both have different focus on their storytelling (one is character driven while the other is world building)

the honkai fandom habit of expressing how much better it is compared to the next door fandom including how much better the game itself is, plus shoving it down their throats while pushing the genshin players to play honkai to understand the lore better when fully understanding the game lore doesnt require any knowledge from the other game. and the gatekeeping as well as the anger outburst from innocent theory of alternate honkai character in genshin (ive seen this on twitter often)

I just really dislike the mentality this fandom can have, and how obsessive they can get about the sister game. you can enjoy one without putting down the other, i would honestly rather have the two fandom separated altogether. its exhausting.

Buddy trust me, most of us would very much like the fandoms separated altogether, that's where all the aggressiveness comes from.

Regarding the superiority complex, for me originally it's pushback from the idiots who have no context and say stupid shit like "Honkai copied Genshin!!!" (a real review on apple store.) Thankfully those aren't too common anymore. There's also legitimate criticism, like people who think Paimon is an obnoxious writing choice and Honkai's visual novel format is better at carrying a strong storyline, but those things don't really warrant a fight they're more like tools when people are already bitter...

There's also the annoying Genshin fans who'll be real bitchy about lesbian ships, it's a bit of a sensitive topic for almost any fan who's been into Honkai so it causes fights too.

Overall just not encountering each other would be ideal...

Unfortunately on say, Twitter, even if you have Genshin blacklisted, if you like Honkai you WILL get bombarded by Genshin drama and fanart too because the algorithm shoves them together. There's also a pretty large overlap between the fandoms in the first place... so people who just don't want to interact with Genshin will often have friends who do and see it anyway. It's grating to see stuff you don't wanna see over and over yes?

I'm also on a Genshin lore discord server that has a Honkai lore channel, most of the server is uninterested in it but whenever we DO get people, it's the same theories about expies/Griseo on the ARK/the gems are gnoses/etc etc. It's annoying that the interest is only based on trying to guess more stuff about Genshin's lore, it's annoying that it's ALWAYS the same uninspired and clearly wrong theories that show up over and over again instead of the few clever ones I've seen (which tended to originate from the Honkai side actually)...

...but then again, it's a lore server, that's what the channel's for, I'm happy to help! Honest!

Just, take the aggressiveness of people against "innocent Genshin fans" more as weariness, and you'll understand that position better. It's still not a good way to treat people, but compassion is needed mm?

SPOILERS ALERT!!!

Finally Nya's season! Our queen, our water goddess, our amazing girl gets what she deserves! 😍😍😍

What I know about the season beforehand is that Nya's powers apparently are getting problematic for some reasons? Which is a pretty common topic in other shows but it's a first in Ninjago, usually the elemental powers don't have focus and I LOVE that we now get to see stuff like that 💕💕💕

I know there should be Wojira involved, trusting The Island to deliver that little foreshadowing at the end of the episode 🤷‍♀️ Also Maya is back... MAYA IS FINALLY BACK AFTER SEVEN SEASONS YES!!! 😭😭😭

I have nothing else to say, I have no idea what this will bring, hopefully something as good as Master of the Mountain! 🖤

Warning reader, I might be fangirling to an extreme because I love mah girl Nya and I've been wanting Kai and Nya's parents to be back ever since Hands of Time ended. So yeah... screaming alert 😅

At this point I don't doubt that the intro is great, we reached such a level of animation and we got The Fold 😍😍 Love the marine vibe and how it's similar to The Island, because it's a great intro 👌

NOW I like the writing! Maybe they rushed the dialogue's quality for The Island to get here? It's just fun and in character, maybe it's just me but I'm enjoying it a lot for now

A (not-so-brief) list and analysis of the things that were changed in the set design of Phantom London, part 1

[*includes things that were changed in between the release of the infamous Planning Document™ and opening night!*]

WARNING: long, image-heavy post

The past week has undoubtedly been very confusing and anxiety-inducing for a lot of phans, I myself included, who were (and are) still horrified of what C*mM*ck has done to Phantom London.

So naturally, as someone who lives somewhere that couldn't be farther from the UK, I decided to compile a list of all the things that I've learned — through hours of shamelessly scrolling through Instagram, Twitter and Facebook tags — about the planning, creation and production of the new set design.

Hang on tight, it's a bumpy ride.

1. The proscenium

The most obvious thing that is now different from the OG. Let's take a look at the concept art shown in the original planning document:

Ahh, I remember the release of this picture and the Tumblr/Twitter/FB explosion that ensued like it was yesterday. Good times.

The new set design by Matt Kinley is mainly derived from what he did for the UK tour, which introduced the cracked, sculpture-less proscenium and the separate proscenium frame/boxes that appear only during the opera scenes. Unlike the greatly simplified UK tour design, however, this design for London appears to have the original lyres and garlands at the top, as well as some structural elements of the OG proscenium (see the outward curved trimmings on the top sides). The surrounding areas of the auditorium are also shown to be restored to their original colours, the most interesting of which is a new false wall in the area behind the top part of the proscenium. These areas were previously blacked out with black paint and black masking.

Despite hewing closer to the OG than the UK tour did, this was still a sacrilegious bastardization far cry from Maria Björnson's design, and I guess the creatives were aware of it too, as they seemed to try to soften the blow by:

using actual pieces of the original proscenium that weren't a part of the OG plan such as this satyr-riding angel...

including an "homage" to Maria (according to ALW) in the form of a new sculptural bust that fills up the Golden Angel's spot (picture from @mariussansmerci) ...

The design of the false wall behind the lyres on top was also changed to... something that I guess gives off the impression of a false dome?? Not too sure about this one but I kinda like it ngl:

Something that the planning document mentions is that the removal of the side sculptures and the installation of a "cracked" proscenium allows for sound equipment to be installed behind the sides of the proscenium, which frees up the two side boxes to be "used as originally intended". And that's exactly what happened. Surprise, C*mM*ck now has 4 extra seats that he can sell overpriced.

To be honest? I kinda like the final result. Those (possibly face-saving) changes really saved the design from looking like a bad copy of the original proscenium; now it just looks like a mediocre copy. But don't worry, whenever I get too comfortable with this new design I just pull out pictures of Maria's OG proscenium and my fiery anger for the new one is reignited.

And that's all I have on the proscenium!

Next up we have something that I believe had the most confusing and troubled development out of all the new set pieces:

2. The Chandelier

Man, this poor thing has been through a lot.

When it was originally designed for the UK tour, the chandelier was intended to utilize much of the same technology that the r*staged tour chandelier used, namely the drapes that are "magically" sucked into the chandelier itself and the straight-dropping mechanism. Hence, the new chandelier was made to be circular and non-collapsible, featuring a decorative spike on the bottom. According to pictures of the model and the concept art shown in the planning document, I suspect the drapes were to be sucked in through the decorative lyres (see the circular openings):

But this mechanism was precisely the reason for the downfall of this design. Come opening night of the UK tour, and this chandelier was nowhere to be seen. My suspicion of what went wrong? Either the drapes were snagging on the lyres (kind of like what happened to the short-lived garlands on R*staged Tour Chandelier), or the retractable frame that held up the drapes wasn't working properly.

But whatever the reason for the failure of this mashup chandelier, the designers must've realized and abandoned ship pretty late, because pictures from one of the prop makers showed that it was still being made with frames that were very much non-collapsible as late as February this year:

Once they realized it wasn't going to work, I believe a series of last-minute actions were made. My theory: they brought back the OG chandelier in all its missing-bulbs glory less than a week away from opening...

... and stripped it of its lyres, which were transplanted onto the new chandelier, as is evident from the final product (photo from @soulsoaringphan):

This hypothesis is bolstered by the fact that the new lyres were originally going to have holes in them for drape-sucking (ew), and so once the decision was made to have the chandelier work more like the OG, the logical step would have been to just borrow the lyres from the old one instead of making new ones in less than a week or two from opening.

Also note the gaps in the beading that would've had the rigid golden frame trimmings seen in the model and the in-progress photos above; the designers must have removed them hastily to allow the chandelier to collapse, but unfortunately they just... left it empty. Oh, and the absence of the spike on the bottom, which is now just a huge gaping hole (again, ew). There's also an additional tier on top that wasn't present in the OG, model or any of the concept art.

I'm actually quite relieved that the new chandelier is pretty similar to the OG and the Palais Garnier one, but if I have to nitpick: I miss the horizontal decorative beading, the ones that were on the top tier and in between the lyres in the old chandelier. Maybe it's just me, but the chandelier looks... incomplete without them.

And that's all I have on the chandelier!

3. The Orchestra Pit — wait, I can't upload any more pictures??

Leviathan

"Well, if that's what we have to do let's get started." Shepard says, standing and moving over towards the shuttle with Cortez.

Kaidan hits another husk, killing it, and turns to face Shepard. "Wait a minute here. Are we seriously considering-"

"First, we'll need to restore power to get that cargo door open." Steve says.

"How?" She asks, furrowing her brow.

"I guess we are." Garrus says.

"These old Ballard-class ships are equipped with exterior power sockets. They use 'em for emergency repairs. We can strip the cells from the shuttle and use those for juice. Hang on, and I'll get you started." Steve pulls out a power cell and hands it to Shepard as more Reaper forces drop from the sky.

"Go, we'll fend them off!" Kaidan shouts, opening fire. Together, he and Garrus keep the husks, marauders, and brutes off Shepard long enough for her to get the cargo bay open and hop into the mech.

"Artillery incoming!" She shouts over the comms as she unleashes rockets on the hoard. Within minutes, the monstrosities lay dead on the ground.

She guides the mech over to Cortez so he can inspect it. "All right, Commander. Let's get you out of there and I'll do a systems check."

As Steve moves around the mech with his omnitool, running scans, Kaidan heads towards Shepard. The part of him that is usually so keen to follow regulations and be a good, obedient soldier is thrown out the window by the fear growing in him. This is a crazy risk. "Shepard, I've got to say... I'm not too crazy about this plan."

The hatch opens and she's there, staring back at him. Her gray eyes are fixed on him, filled with determination. Somewhere behind them, he detects a hint of understanding. She knows what he left unsaid, the worry that he feels right now. "We've come too far to stop now. The way home is through Leviathan." she replies in her classic Commander Shepard tone.

"Okay, seals check out. Oxygen pressure is normal. Systems are a go." Cortez says, walking back towards the front of the mech. "It's as ready as I can make it."

"Let's go." she says, setting her jaw and gripping the controller tightly.

Every fiber of his being screams. This is a bad idea. We have no idea what's down there. The mech could fail, she could drown or be crushed under the pressure. If she finds Leviathan, who knows how many ways it could kill or harm her. And if, by some miracle she manages to disable the pulse and get away safely, she'll still need the mech to hold up long enough to return her safely to the surface. Damn it, he's not going to back down so easily this time. He's not going to let her charge off into danger and leave him behind like she did over Alchera. He opens his mouth, prepared to let everything flood out, to say anything to convince her to stay, but all that comes out is "But Shepard..."

"I'll be fine." she interrupts. She looks him directly in the eye. All at once she's his Commander and the love of his life. She's ordering him to stand down, to let her go, while simultaneously reassuring him that she will come back to him safely. He feels his duty to her as a soldier and his love for her as her partner. The battle inside him ends and he reluctantly nods, stepping aside.

"Closing hatch." she announces. She checks the systems and guides the mech to the water. "Commencing dive in 3, 2, 1." The mech hits the water hard, splashing and then sinking into the murky depths.

He listens as Cortez checks the comms. For a moment, everything seems fine and he finds himself relax slightly. Then, he hears Steve's voice rise in pitch. "Commander? Commander, can you hear me? Commander Shepard?"

"What's going on down there?" Garrus asks. Kaidan tries to swallow the lump rising in his throat.

"The comms are out. We can't reach her anymore." Steve replies.

Kaidan doesn't have much time to worry because more Reaper forces drop to the ship. All of his fears are pushed away as he slides into command. "Incoming! Cortez, get the power cores back in the shuttle. Garrus, take up a position near the shuttle and we'll cover him."

Fending off the Reaper forces proves to be a neverending task. Short moments of relief are interrupted by more forces landing. Steve gets the shuttle fixed and mans a pistol from just outside it. In one lull, Kaidan checks the time. She's been down there for over an hour. Kaidan swallows his fear and tells his friends "She'll be here. And when she gets back, we'll be ready to go." They nod in affirmation and load their supplies.

Defending the shuttle from the Reapers is beginning to truly be exhausting when suddenly the mech breaches the surface. His heart soars. The mech stumbles forward and the hatch opens. All hope plummets as soon as he sees her. She's ghostly pale, maybe even gray, and bleeding from her nose and eyes. She falls forward out of the shuttle and hits the ground, right by a pack of brutes. She tries to stand, but hits the ground hard again. Shit, she's defenseless! In that moment, one of the brutes stops, staring blankly for a moment before turning and attacking it's companion. Now's his chance! Kaidan runs over to Hazel and helps her to her feet. Although she's now supporting some of her weight, he's practically dragging her along to the shuttle. "Shepard's back! Cortez, talk to me!"

Steve is already in the pilot's seat, pulling the shuttle back around. "We're good to go! I don't know what the Commander did, but the pulse is offline!" Garrus covers them as Kaidan loads her onto the shuttle. As they take off, he vaguely notes that the brute is still attacking other Reaper forces.

Kaidan helps guide Hazel onto her back on the shuttle floor. Steve shouts about a Reaper incoming. Shit! It's right in their path! He tries to maneuver underneath it, but it opens it's terrible arms and charges it's beam. Before it can fire, it suddenly disables and crashes into the ocean. What the hell did she find down there?

He turns his attention back to Shepard. She's not moving or responding. Damn it, Hazel! "Shepard! Can you hear me?" She doesn't respond. He reads the data from her suit on his omnitool. It's not looking good. "She's freezing!"

She coughs suddenly and violently, jolting upwards. The coughing fit continues to wrack her body as she tries to sit up and brace herself against the seat. He watches her vitals recover some. "You okay?"

"Yeah... yeah, I'm fine. Hell of a headache." Her voice is raspy and weak. Her pulse is still somewhat erratic, but it looks like she'll be okay.

Fear and concern quickly evolves into anger at the risk she took. "Never do that again." he says firmly, rising to his feet.

She looks up at him, her eyes rimmed with red. She's exhausted and in pain, but she's here and she'll be okay. She came back to him. He relaxes, letting go of his anger and instead bathing in relief for just a moment before he asks "So, what happened down there?"

"We found it. It's real and a lot more than we ever imagined." She rises to her feet.

Cortez turns back in his seat to face her. "So, was it worth almost dying for?"

"I don't know, but we proved it can't hide anymore... that it's a part of this war, just like us. And it's going to help fight."

As they ride back, Shepard calls Dr. Ann Bryson to tell her about what she found. Kaidan knows no one will get the full story out of her until later, but even the broad explanation is amazing. When the dock back on the Normandy, she immediately locks herself in her cabin to write her full and detailed report, brushing off any requests to check in at the med-bay.

Kaidan finds himself waiting outside her door with a cup of coffee. Dr. Chakwas stands next to him, leaning against the wall with her med bag on the floor. Eventually, the door unlocks and they both go in. Hazel sits in her desk chair, still in her armour. The submission confirmation for her report is still displayed on the terminal.

"Hey, guys." She smiles weakly at them. Kaidan sets the mug on her desk and offers her an arm. She takes it and pulls herself up, then slowly peels off her armor. Chakwas guides her to sit on the couch and begins checking her over.

Eventually, she rises and closes her bag. "You're looking alright, Commander. Take this for the pain. Get yourself fed, hydrated, and warm. I'll be taking my leave now. Have a nice night." She smiles and walks to the door, stopping just next to Kaidan. "Keep an eye on her, Major Alenko." She smiles and exits the room.

Kaidan brings the mug with him and sits down next to Shepard. He hands her the coffee, which she sips as she leans against him.

"Nice to have everyone back on dry land, so to speak."

"Mm-hm." She responds.

"You scare the hell out of me with those risky stunts, Shepard, but I guess it's also part of what I love about you." He whispers.

"I'm sorry I scared you. To be honest, I scare myself sometimes, too. I've already pushed so hard, given so much of myself for the mission, for the galaxy. I lost it all once, and sometimes I wonder if some part of me wishes I had just stayed..."

Kaidan pulls back and looks down at her. She looks so small and timid sitting here, curled into herself. It's a rare moment where he might even call her vulnerable. "Stayed dead..?" He asks quietly. She nods meekly. "Hazel, having you back has been a lifeline. I missed you, more than I could ever express."

"I know, and I'm sorry. I just... I came back only to throw it all on the line again and again. And in the end, nothing I did even mattered. The Reapers still arrived, and now we're fighting an impossible war."

"And we'll win. We'll win because of everything you've done to make that possible. I believe in us, Shepard. I believe in you."

"You really think so?"

"I know so." He smiles gently and pulls her into his arms. She curls up against him and slowly relaxes. He can feel her falling asleep, so he takes the mug from her and sets it on the table. Carefully, he scoops her up into his arms. She mumbles sleepily about more work, but doesn't protest as he tucks her into bed. He kisses her forehead and turns to leave, but she grips his shirt tightly. She wants him to stay. He takes off his boots and crawls into bed next to her. She shuffles closer to him, resting her head on his chest, and quickly falls asleep.

I always try to draw more from the movies than the books because (controversial opinion time) I don’t. like the books very much BUT I have read the first two and that scene in the first book where evie finds out carlos doesn’t have a blanket and her immediate reaction is to give him hers is just. utter perfection like it’s so telling of their true personalities like she sees this kid who has less than she does and she just wants to help him and they’re both really confused because arent they supposed to be evil? but he takes the blanket anyway and they just. never speak of it again. I love it

in terms of the movies I’ll be honest we get Fucking scraps in terms of any interaction between evie and carlos but there is this moment at the end of d2 here theyre both leaning on the edge of the boat at cotillion and they have short solo verses about moving on from painful pasts but accepting it for having shaped who they are and their like. holding hands and honestly it always makes me go batshit

smtg that i think sparrow @hersilentlanguage came up with a while back that I’ve been like lowkey obsessed with ever since is the possibilites for a fairytale subversion with malvie because like.. evie is a princess. mal is a scary dragon. they fall in love? fucking perfection honestly because it subverts the idea that the princess needs to be saved from the dragon AND it plays w the idea that monsters aren’t monsters but rather are just perceived as Other... I don’t know maybe I’m thinking too much about this but I really do just like that shit

Idk and assuming evie was cheating on him in d2 reeeaaally rubs me the wrong way like I KNOW I am AWARE that it’s a joke scene and I KNOW it’s a haha funny evies mom is a golddigger! joke but akekkdkskdkdk jay and carlos came up with a shit lie indeed for why she wasn’t around but WHY was Doug walking around looking for evie in the middle of the night ANYWAY

idk though... if someone rewrote doug to be Not Weird itd probably be p cute yknow with how he’s not a prince blah blah subversions we all know. and fanon of them is prob fine (not that I’ve seen any lol)
