Me: Go Go Fish is a shounen manga because it is written with the influence of shounen manga tropes, targetted towards youth, intended to be consumed by those who are familiar with shounen as a genre and many has established that manga is not an art form or a style that's geolocked to japan. Even if it features mainly nb/women characters and have themes that are not often included in shounen as we know it doesn't mean it is not shounen

URGENT HELP NEEDED | pls read👇

hey, guys. i’m posting this here because i’ve been trying to fundraise on other social medias regularly, since me and my family have been drowning in overdue bills since march and struggling financially even longer than that.

when we got evicted i made a gogetfunding link (can’t use gofundme here) with the objective of helping us out for three months with basic needs while i job hunted and my mom took the time to get better since she has been dealing with PTSD, depression and severe panic attacks for a very long time without medical support. i stopped sharing that link since i was in the process of getting a stable job but, unfortunately, halfway through the admission process my mom had another episode and i ended up losing that opportunity altogether because i was unable to go out. we previously thought things would look up this month but our leftover money is now being withheld by my grandma’s bank because of someone cloning her account and leaving her with a huge debt.

we only have $200 per month total, and this money started to come out after our rent date. as a result of those bank issues and losing that job opportunity, we’re going to struggle extremely hard these next two months, as usual, with bills/rent/food. currently we have an overdue power bill ($85 total) and they’re going to shut it down on july 31st. our rent ($200) is also due on the day after, august 1st.

it’s really embarrassing to have to do this and i’m truly sorry about it, but i’m sharing my ggf link here and asking, if possible, to help spread it around again. the total goal is still what we need for three months, same as i originally had it. we need urgent help with that bill and august rent, as well as getting my mom medical support and food for us every week. anything helps, even reblogging the link / reposting it, and taking the time to read this means the world. thank you so much.

GGF rewatch, part 4 - Interlude

I was about to start my Green Gables Fables season 2 rewatch and at the end of the first ("episode 0") video - beyond realizing that I'd fully misremembered the show's timeline! - I noticed that there was a disconnected video: "Anne and Gil React...". This video isn't included in either the seasons 1 or 2 playlists and since the show has been unlisted, it was harder to find it. (I ended up scrolling through Anne's Tumblr feed, which also helped remind me what took place when and how excellent the transmedia was on this show.)

I'll linger on the video for a moment before I continue my actual season 2 rewatch, because it occurs to me that this is the mental image I have of Green Gable Fable's versions of Anne and Gilbert. Specifically, I always remember them as that final moment, when Gilbert side-hugs Anne and she pushes his face away. They're both so clearly comfortable and friends in this video that it's easy to forget that their friendship came about at the very end of season 1 (as in Anne of Green Gables). As I've mentioned before, I have a very strange relationship with GGF, in that I feel like I forgot about the show oddly quickly, despite liking it so very much. Going into season 2, I'm especially aware of that fact, since I realize that I actually remember fairly little. There are a few plot points and major scenes that are fresh in my memory and I'm excited to re-experience, but I don't have many expectations of the season as a whole, which is kind of exciting.

And that makes me think about how I wouldn't have remembered "Anne and Gil React..." without the little thumbnail at the end of season 2's "teaser" episode, "Goodbye, Avonlea" (which, sadly, does not directly link to the video). And that makes me think about how contemporary literary webseries were, whether in the context of their use of specific social media platforms for the purposes of transmedia or in how rooted to a particular slice of time they are or, as is now emerging, how hard it is to replicate the original viewing experience almost a decade later. (Sidebar: This makes the forthcoming Nothing Much to Do rewatch project all of the more interesting, but naturally I'll be writing about that separately when the time comes.) This one little out-of-place video - which actually perfectly captures what I best remember from GGF - seems to represent something about this rewatching project on the whole, about the way these webseries blazed to life and have faded from collective memory, about art as a whole, and about what it means to rework a classic story.

Mein headcanon für Leo ist seine absolut zuverlässige Präsenz und seine Vorliebe für Gerechtigkeit. Aber auch seine jahrelange Einsamkeit ohne Adam und schlussendlich die bittere Erkenntnis, dass Adam tot ist. Ich glaube da auch, dass Adam ihn auf die eine oder andere Art und Weise begleitet hat (ggfs. so wie in der Spiegelszene in Zwiegesprächen).

22. If you're a fic reader, what's something you like in fics when it comes to the character? Something you don't like?

Ich mag es, wenn Leo in Geschichten durch Adams manchmal doch chaotisches Wesen aus seinem Verlässlichkeitstrott herausgeholt wird und wenn Adam ihn ein bisschen durcheinander bringt. Ich mag auch sehr gerne, wenn Leo Adams moralischer Kompass ist.

Was ist nicht mag, ist ein Leo, der sich Adam gegenüber hochgradig unfair verhält und toxisch ist (es sei denn, es wird gut aufgelöst). Ich mag es auch nicht so gerne, wenn Leo nicht begründete Entscheidungen trifft, die im Gegensatz zu seinem Polizeidasein stehen.

retsu, despite his gruff and severe exterior seems to have quite a bit genuine faith in gento and skard--having handpicked the members himself after all--and wants to do his part to make a space for them in ggf amid the whims of his own superiors

i feel like his impressing upon the team to hold to certain procedure is a part of his own way of trying to make sure gento pays mind to his cover (particularly in the most recent episode, when he stresses how gento's disappearance would bring him under fire for desertion). he's very intentionally quite unreadable though! so it's really still all up in the air!

in terms of people i think are most likely to catch onto gento's identity, all of them are close to the captain in their own ways, but emi and teruaki stand out to me as information staff specifically! :0c the vice-captain's role in the two-parter nijikagachi episodes (revolving around a kaijuu set as a a kind of parallel enigma to blazar in many ways) in particular is something i think about quite a bit 💭

it's why i'm looking forward to the upcoming episode! on the official site for the show, the preview blurb itself mentions: "meanwhile, gento is asked by teruaki as to what he thinks about blazar..."

The Man-Eating Dino

Blazar: SKaRD are engaging in tests of the Earth Garon Mod. 3 Flight Pack, and senior brass are attending the tests. Things go well, reaching Mach 9, but in combat flight Yasunobu, acting as pilot, can't take the strain and passes out. The brass dictate Anri shall be pilot Mod. 3 and Yasunobu will l be relieved, even as he tries to improve himself, everyone knows for shooting combat he is better suited. Gento and Teruaki discuss a recent EMP weapon test by GGF aimed at fighting space Kaiju that seems rushed, and they are saved from today's performance by the appearance of what seems to be a 300m Deltandal, from the test site, Anri goes alone in Mod. 3 with Earth-kun support. Unfortunately, due to her poorer aim, she misses the key target point and is shot down. Deltandal B is then detected approaching their base, after failing to get permission for Yasunobu pushed through by the director, Gento opts to use the exact words to have Yasunobu in the Command seat operating only weapons. Blazar arrives, and forces Deltandal B into the atmosphere so it's explosion doesn't reach the surface, the Earth Fire destroys the central organ and Blazar bisects it.

Gotchard: Kudoh stops by Kitchen Ichinose while they're setting up for Christmas, Ichinose invites her, Renge and Sabimaru to the Christmas party, and his mother sends them out to gather materials she needs. A mournful man is approached by X-Rex, which eats him. Kudoh explains about Atropos and her worried she is somehow responsible for what's happened, Ichinose assures her she bears no blame, but he'll be there for her more. They hear the sound of X-Rex, Minato informs them of it's man-eating, even the Association don't know why, before a girl stumbles on Ichinose and Kudoh. Someone talking to Spanner requests he get his hands on the Dreadriver and Replica Chemy Cards, and reminds him to keep watch on Rinne. The girl is Manabe Sawa, she came to get a photo of the rumoured dinosaur as a gift for her father, a writer of dinosaur articles for another occult magazine, they hear the noise of X-Rex and investigate. Spanner invades the Abyssal Sisters and demands the Dreadriver and Cards, only for Latchesis to use it, defeating his using VenomDake and then FlayRose. They find X-Rex, Ichinose becomes Gotchard to defend Sawa, and tries to learn why it eats people, only to be eaten as well, Kudoh gets herself and Sawa away using DeepMariner, but assures Saws Ichinose will be fine, before finding the photo of the man X-Red ate earlier, the photo shows him and Sawa. Hopper1 wakes Ichinose inside X-Rex, where Manabe-san reveals it is seeing his memories, his deepest regret is that Sawa, who respected his earnest love for his work, saw him capitulate to his editors demand, Ichinose assures him Sawa doesn't hate him. Kudoh and Sawa are cornered by the Abyssal Sisters, Lachesis threatening them, Kudoh uses YamiBat to defend them. Ichinose realises X-Rex eats people because it seeks to understand them, and allows it to see his memories of the Chemies and his earnest wish to befriend them, it also sees him 10 years younger promise Hopper1 they'll always be friends, something he doesn't remember now. Still, he uses UFO Gotchard to escape, intruding on the action. It's Clotho's turn to use Dread, but Ichinose has an ace up his sleeve, as X-Rex lends it's power to Super Gotchard.

Kingohger: Racles explains his plan is to see Tikyu destroyed by Gira's hand. Elegance leads medical efforts to tend to the exhausted Kingohgers, telling Douga they cannot come to Shugoddom's aid as it is beset by Bugnarok, fortunately he is saved by Minityra, who lets out a roar heard by Plezuon in space. Forcing himself to move, Gira arrives as KuwagataOhger to fight the Bugnarok, and Plezuon flies past to deposit Prince, who is glad to have found Gabutyra. King KyoryuRed fights with KuwagataOhger, but once the footsoldiers are defeated Giants take their place, and the other Shugods seem to join their attack. Gabutya is able to free them from whatever has ahold on them as they form King Kyoryuzin. After the two talk, Gira assuring Prince he can leave matters here to himself, Prince shows concern before leaving. Returning to the others, still very out of action, they tell him he needs to convince the Shugods to defend the nations, but don't know why they attacked earlier. Gira is trying to ask this of Kuwagon when Shugo Kamen and Dugded make a worldwide broadcast, Racles publicly unmask and reveals the "truth", that Gira is a creation of Dugded. Acknowledging that Shugoddom was in the service of Dugded for 2000 years, Racles explains Gira was given a reward, a weapon to slay the enemies of mankind, but declares after defeating the Bugnarok Gira betrayed them, and claims he and the monarchs now seek to destroy humanity. Kogane and Boone try to defend Gira from the mob, but acting to defend the children the mob grabs them back, then Dugded forcibly controls Gira to summon Extreme King-Ohger, which starts rampaging alongside some Bugnarok. Racles swears to "save" humanity from Gira, and Dugded scares the crowd away from Gira so he can taunt him, but as he gloats, Extreme King-Ohger stops moving, the Shugods acting of their own will, and communicating to their partners via their swords, who decide it is no time to wait around. Gira takes his OhgerCaliber and thinks of Kuwagon, Tonbokkuri, Kamarina, Hachisuke, Papinton, Tete, Toto, Kuumo, Kumomo, Arrin, Kabutan, Sasorin, Batta and Tarantino. If their partners are going to rebel, the Kings will as well, collectively swearing to defeat Dugded as Extreme King-Ohger defeats the Bugnarok.

What is your favorite line that you’ve written in a fic?

He thinks of funnel cake, of Bucky holding the camera up so Sam’s arm wouldn’t get tired, of how fiercely he loves the boys, of longform cursive paperwork and company on the nights Sam screams himself awake and those smiles that always feel a little bit like being entrusted with something precious. All those quiet somethings that have become his touchstone, warm and steady and always there.

I'm terrible at picking favorites, but I do really like this bit from if you got the notion (i second that emotion). It feels like the thesis of how I write these two as a couple.

Do you like to outline your fic first or create as you go?

Roughly 99% of the time, I create as I go! Basically the only exception to this rule has been fics with a real PointTM or structure that demands planning ahead, like the Cloak and Dagger crossover or the still-in-progress-but-eventually-gonna-be-finished-I-swear Bake Off AU. (Also the GGF fake dating AU that I wrote back in 2015!)

How many WIPs do you currently have?

Oh, God. Uh. Four bigger fics (the Bake Off AU, the infamous DJ White Wolf fic, an epistolary fic set during Thunderbolts, and an AU that Emma gleefully encouraged me to write based on the most niche concept of all time), four prompt fills that are actively being worked on, and then just...so many other prompts languishing in my inbox. I am a disaster.

Are non-fandom friends aware that you write fanfic?

I don't think so? It's possible that the one or two who follow me on Tumblr know and they've just been polite enough not to bring it up, in which case shoutout to them.

What is the most impactful lesson you’ve learned about writing?

This year has been all about me leaning into "it's not perfect, but it's done" and being better at sending things out into the world even if I've stopped seeing everything but the places that need work. I'm not always good at it, but I've gotten better!

GGF rewatch, part 2

The thing with Green Gables Fables is that it just sort of... flows. It works. I wrote this in my previous rewatch post too and I'm left feeling like there's not much to add at this point. Anne leaps from mishap to mishap, usually with minor stakes that she dramatically enhances in a way that works perfectly for the character. The adaptation choices are often nimble and sweet. The inclusion of Matthew is wonderful, particularly given how many amateur webseries often felt like they existed in universes fully populated by teens alone (with the occasional young adult). And I love how the many side characters are gradually introduced onscreen. Anne lives at home and talks to Matthew a lot; why wouldn't he be roped into her videos? Diana and Jane are genuine friends who are aware of Anne's whimsies and vlogging quirkiness and join in on occasion. Ruby is initially a somewhat distant friend-from-school who floats into her first video with confidence and ease (in what I think is genuinely the best version of this particularly character I've ever seen) and gradually takes on a meatier role, as we'll see moving forward. And now - as I finish watching "I Hate Rain" - the elusive Gilbert makes his first appearance. He spends most of his time on camera looking at Anne, even as she steadfastly refuses to meet his gaze and continues to address the camera (even when speaking to Gilbert himself, her body remains trained toward us, her audience), Gilbert only glancing at it at the very end.

GGF doesn't feel dated. Sure, I imagine the teen references would be a bit different today (One Direction fanfic...?), but for a show that's 9 years old, it has a timelessness that is rather impressive. As I mentioned in my last post, I can't help but feel that unlike LBD where the vlogging style itself has changed so much since the show first aired, here there's something about Anne's obvious DIY style that feels entirely contemporary. Anne's filming choices also feel much more in tune with how modern casual videos are filmed, albeit hers are obviously far less edited and polished than many contemporary short videos. But would a teenager who's making videos for fun necessarily have clips that are that much more polished? Would Anne have the patience to make those sorts of videos? I'm not sure.

And so the rewatch continues, with little to add on my end. Not because there's nothing worthy, but because Anne of Green Gables is a wonderfully fluid text that doesn't feel like it has the standard Major Plot Points that need to be addressed, so much as an episodic series of events. "I Hate Rain" and the next video in line "Not Happening" are dramatic events for our sake, but there's nothing so drastic in-story in terms of having Gilbert on camera for the first time. There's no tension like with the Lizzie Bennet Diaries' "Darcy Day", in which Darcy himself introduced major drama and his very presence on camera added onto it. It's another Anne mishap, after all! It's what she does! But the viewer can enjoy this first appearance and appreciate it. Truthfully, the biggest dramatic event in GGF will happen much later (...Matthew), and the show becomes a lot more plot-driven in its second season.
