This guy. When I first met this guy, he didn't pay much attention to me. He was taking great care of his human and his sister #ramonabeagle (swipe to see them together). M and I were just guests. Within a few months, he warmed up to us and accepted us into his pack. If he went out without us, he would make sure we were ok when he got back. If we went out without him, he was always at the door to greet us when we got home. He still didn't cuddle much but he took care of his pack. Almost three years ago, he had to get surgery on his back. It was a scary experience for all of us, but more so for him. He was away from his pack for days while he rested in the hospital. Recovery at home was long and difficult. When he fully recovered, he started cuddling with us a lot more. Since then this guy has taken great care of all of us, and for that, we will be forever grateful. He has been in so much pain for the past few months -- it's time that we take care of him. REMEMBERING EVAN ON HIS 31ST BIRTHDAY! This past Christmas Evan’s son Remy came for a visit during the Holiday. We had a great time! The day before he left to fly home to Florida, he and I were watching a movie and he turned to me on the couch and asked, “Will you miss me when I’m gone?” I said, “Oh yes, we will miss you when you fly home.” Then he asked, “Will you cry?” To which I replied, “We cry every time you leave to go home because we miss you!” He smiled with the same mellow expression as his Daddy, his eyes filling up with tears. I said, “We love you so much.” And we hugged. On Evan’s 31st birthday, I miss our son. Every member of our family misses him and we mention it to each other from time to time. Each time we see Remy, although he looks a lot like his Momma, we see glimpses of Evan that comfort us in expressions and temperament. I know our whole family will never stop missing him, especially my wife and I. Recently at the passing of George H.W. Bush, I read the following words about his love for his daughter Robin who died of leukemia at age three; “At the National Book Festival in 2016, while discussing the letter that Bush wrote to his mother about Robin’s death, his biographer Jon Meacham indicated that he once had Bush read the letter aloud. Long before he could finish, Meacham said, George H. W. Bush broke down in sobs so piercing that it prompted his chief of staff to enter the room. "Why did you want President Bush to do that?’ ” the chief of staff asked. “If you want to know someone’s heart,” Meacham began to reply — but the president interrupted him. “You have to know what breaks it,” Bush added. I concur with our late president, the loss of our son Evan has forever broken our hearts and reshaped them.
