Kairi of Avylon

A figure of folklore and local legend, not much is known about Kairi’s true self. A few land lovers even go as far as to question her existence but anyone who regularly travels across her waters knows that the hushed whispers hld some truths. Her voice is said to be so soulful no mortal man can resist stopping to listen, her beauty is unmatched by any maiden. Some say if you please her, she’ll bestow upon you a ‘mermaid’s kiss’ and bring you to live amongst her court. Others reason she’ll enchant you long enough to steal your treasures and leave you barren. But men who have been unfortunate enough to pass through the heart of her domain know the reality is far worse, they just never live to tell the tale.

Kairi is the ruler of the majority of the ocean, in charge of keeping the waters and it’s inhabitants safe. Although she is mostly content for ships to travel as they please, there is one particular area of ocean that very few sailors have survived.

This is where most merpeople call their home, it’s a safe haven where they can live in peace.

Fourteen years ago, when Kairi was only a child, pirates invaded this safe haven and slaughtered half the population. The image of the blood of her people dying the water crimson still haunts her to this day. Her mother, the previous ruler, died protecting her people.

Kairi has sworn that no pirate shall ever make her people bleed again.

Any and all ships that have attempted to pass through have never been seen again. A simple song to lure them in, beckon for them to reach out a hand, drag them to a wavery grave and tear them limb from limb.

That was until Rose’s ship sailed by.

The pirates who murdered her people were all men, and although she’d seen female sailors before the image of a female captain and a quartermaster that although not a woman, was not a man either made her pause.

It was enough to give Rose the chance to stick out her hand and make an offering: ‘Safe passage through your waters in exchange for any male prisoners we capture on our travel. Do we have a deal?’

And for a reason she can’t quite describe, she agreed.

The agreement is still on to this day, and Kairi looks forward to when she can see Rose’s ship approaching in the distance, if not for all the hearts of men that wait her, then for a soft fondness for Jade, the mysterious Quatermaster.

Lacina Demers - Backstory

Lacina came from a small impoverish family, it was just her brother, mother and herself - her father had run away to the seas when she was still a babe - he was supposedly a frenchman and decided to abandon his family for his homeland

Her mother became gravely ill when she was 8, her brother turned to the seas and a life of piracy in the hopes of affording the medicine she needed. In his absence Lacina became a pickpocket, small and dainty she was unnoticeable in the big crowds of the city

Her brother would return twice a year with riches from his travels but when her mother died when she was 14 it had been a year since she’d last seen him. With the rest of her family gone, her life of crime had become her only way to feed herself and she enjoyed the thrill it gave her that the life of housewife could never

As the years went by she garnered a reputation for herself, she had broadened her horizons and collected information for those in need of her services, knowledge was priceless after all

She frequented the most unsavoury part of towns, her fiery hair made her stand out from the crowd and draw people in but it was her pretty face that stopped them from leaving, as she plied them with alcohol and laid the flirtation on thick, she collected their secrets as they unknowingly sealed their fate

Once she’d gotten what she needed she’d place the mark of the black spot on her victim and in the panic she would slip out

Few of the businesses she frequented knew of her occupation but those that did either acted oblivious to the fact or struck a deal with her, a golden opportunity for more money and more clients

Often she would trade secrets for passage to new lands where she could continue her business, pirates were her favourite customers their targets posed the most challenge and they always went looking for the best secrets whether it was priceless maps or magical artifacts

Due to this has spent more time with pirates than probably ‘socially acceptable’, and while the sea called to some ancient part of her soul she’d been drowned enough times under the suspician of being a witch to be grateful for the life she had on land

Despite using her looks to lure her prey into a false sense of security she was just as deadly as she was beautiful, something that was so easily dismissed until it was too late. She could just as easily be ruthless as she could be sweet, perhaps in another life she would have been an actress

She would use any means at her disposal to get what she wanted, she saw it as a little payback for the shitty hand life had dealt her

Update!

Hi everyone! I know it’s been a while since you’ve heard anything from us and we’re sorry for the radio silence, we wanted to pop in to give you a quick update

We went on an unofficial hiatus due to other personal projects and general life stuff, but this is something we are all still very passionate about and are planning to continue

we have season one (roughly) plotted out, along with the first two episodes! We will be working more on getting a decent skeleton for the world set up and once the first season starts “airing” we will be opening the world up for everyone!

A quick explanation for how we’re hoping Avylon to work:

This blog will be mainly for the core story of Avylon, here we will be posting the episodes, information, answering questions, etc (and occasionally reblogging things) All under a tag for the primary story

We will be posting a community tag as well that we encourage people to use when posting their own Avylon content so that we will be able to see it and everyone can keep track of the amazing content for this brand new community we will be creating!

People have been asking about “submitting” ocs and we wanted to clear up that your ocs are your own! We want you to create amazing content and have fun exploring the world with your characters As the story of Avylon unfolds you will have more “canon” content to base your ocs and stories in and fun new scenarios and locations as well!

As for being part of the main story, be sure to keep your content properly tagged so that we can see it all! And you may just get a message asking if a location or character you created could be worked into part of the story

Thank you for the continued interest in this project, we are all so excited to see where this goes and hope you all will continue to be patient with us <3
