Much as I prefer the Bardock special over Dragon Ball Minus and would prefer to stand by it, one thing I ALWAYS even as a kid thought was stupid was the way the animated series presented this idea. That Kakarot was sent to earth as a NAKED BABY who probably was less than half a year old at best. The kid probably wasn't even weened off of milk yet, and they were sending him off to wipe out planets?
What the FUCK was he supposed to do!? He had a power level of 2 for crying out loud. That's less than the farmer with a shot gun had. And he was just chucked onto this planet naked and sucking his thumb with no cognition of ANYTHING? Were they just banking on him happening to see a full moon before he died of lack of sustenance and hope that he'd wipe out the planet in a mindless great ape state? It literally makes no sense and the way it was portrayed always made it seem like if Grandpa Gohan hadn't found him, baby Kakarot would have instantly died.
I HATE Dragon Ball Minus, but Saiyan society hanging onto Kakarot until he was at least a toddler (three years old, somewhere around as old as Pan was when she appears in the end of the manga) and sending him off while decked out in armor makes WAY more sense. In the Super Broly movie they even add a line in the dub saying that Kakarot's mom thinks he's STILL too young for them to consider sending him off world even then. I really like this nursing capsule idea btw, it makes a lot of sense that Saiyans would chuck their babies into a machine that does all the heavy lifting to keeping them alive and nourished, considering even female saiyans would be too busy going off conquering other worlds to waste time nursing babies.
Tumblr media
And it matches much closer to what we were originally told when meeting Raditz in the manga. What would be the point of Goku hitting his head and getting amnesia if he was too young to even remember anything about himself being a saiyan or planet Vegeta or his mission to exterminate life on earth (something which Raditz obviously expects him to know about)? There's no way baby infant Kakarot as portrayed in the Bardock special is aware of anything beyond his immediate surroundings, let alone has ANY idea of why he'd have been sent to earth. But the way it's depicted in Dragon Ball Minus, you honestly WOULD expect three year old Kakarot to know exactly what's his deal is.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
And this matches with the story Roshi told about what Grandpa Gohan's experience of raising Goku was like before he got amnesia too. Kakarot wasn't a helpless naked infant in the woods. He came out the pod ready to throw hands, and the only reason Gohan managed to survive the encounter is because he was a martial artist.
Tumblr media
Basically while I prefer to stand by the STORY of the Bardock animated movie, I vastly prefer the AESTHETICS of Dragon Ball Minus and the way it was adapted into animation by the Dragon Ball Super Broly movie. The portrayal of saiyan society, class hierarchy, social customs, and armored toddler Kakarot just all make way way more sense. Kakarot being old enough to be able to walk and probably even talk makes way more sense, him knowing he's a saiyan and the reason he was sent to earth makes way more sense, the way he'd be old enough to actually be the hellion he's described as being by Roshi makes way more sense with him being that age.
But the STORY of the Bardock special is soooo much better than Minus/Super's portrayal of Kakarot being sent off for his own safety by his loving parents. Gag me with a spoon. The original animated Bardock movie's portrayal of Bardock not giving a shit about his son because he was weak, and Kakarot being sent off to conquer earth because that's what saiyans do even as infants is just so much better a narrative AND fits closer with what we're told about Kakarot's backstory by Raditz.
Tumblr media
Basically my preference would be to think of a combination of the two. The aesthetics of Dragon Ball Minus/Dragon Ball Super Broly and how it DEPICTS the characters, but with the STORY of the Bardock animated movie.
Seriously Kakarot being sent off as a naked infant makes literally no sense and it never has. Why the fuck would Raditz expect Kakarot to recognize him and be aware of his saiyan mission upon meeting him if he had been sent off as a baby fresh off the teet?
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Seriously, Kakarot and Raditz clearly MUST have interacted with each other before Kakarot was sent to earth. Otherwise this dialog makes no sense whatsoever. Frankly the story of the Bardock special AND Dragon Ball Minus both don't make any sense as depicted, I have no choice BUT to stitch them together in my mind. To imagine a version of the NARRATIVE the Bardock special presented, that LOOKS like how Dragon Ball Minus/DBSBroly looks, and where that narrative takes place when Kakarot was at least three year old and thus has that much time to experience life as a saiyan with his original family members. Where Kakarot was raised and reared as a saiyan and knew what life as a saiyan was like, and was sent off as a low class trash child to some piddly little backwater planet that was beneath anyones concern. And that he happened to be sent away around the same time that Freeza decided to pop Planet Vegeta. That little Kakarot went to earth ready to fulfill his purpose by exterminating the entire planet but was only domesticated by Gohan happening to be able to subdue the child, and by getting a severe head injury that gave him amnesia.
That's really the only way anything could even make sense. Gotta read between the lines and find the truth that exists somewhere in the middle of the two backstories we'd had about Goku and the fate of Planet Vegeta.

🚑✨Weekly Tag Wednesday🪄💫
Look at this super fun tag game @deedala made!! And thanks for the tag @lingy910y @energievie @tanktopgallavich @mikhailoisbaby
🚑 Get in bitch, we're going on a mystical adventure through space, time, and reality. (in ian and mickey's ambulance of course) ✨
Name: Michelle
Zodiac Sign: Pisces ♓️
Personality type in enneagram, myers-briggs, or both: I’ve done all of these quizzes and I can NEVER remember what I am. Whatever that personality type is where the answering paragraph literally told me I couldn’t be an EMT because I am incredibly studious and hard working and great in a crisis, but I am also convinced that literally anything going wrong is my fault personally, and it would kill me. That. It me.
Before we hit the road, what snack are you gonna bring for our trip? Normally I’d say POPCORN but @deedala is already bring that so I’ll go buck wild and say crudités & hummus, because road snacks can be yummy AND healthy!
Navigator gets to pick the music so what song are you turning on? I’ve got a whole road trip playlist, and I hope we’ll listen to most of it, but this should always be played in a car!!
💥 What is a universe from a fantasy tv show you would like to visit? The Golden Age of Albion, ie. BBC Merlin
And what about a fantasy movie? Fuck Rowling, but Harry Potter’s a pretty good world.
Okay, how about a scifi tv show? I don’t really watch Sci-Fi and the things I have seen… well, I don’t wanna live in Stranger Things world, or Humans, or Lost in Space, so… The Umbrella Academy? Mostly the normal world, and I can stay away from the weird shit? Maybe?
And a scifi movie universe? Again, don’t really watch Sci-Fi, and any I have seen I wouldn’t want to live in. Also there’s just too much fucking running in all of them. I’d be dead within 24 hours, let’s face it. Planet of the Apes? I might do okay there for maybe 72 hours… 🤔
Any other tv show or movie universes you'd like to swing by before we move on? Shadowhunters? Normal world with added magic and a fuck load of cool tattoos? Yeah, I’d do okay there. As long as I didn’t have to do the running bit lol
Okay hold on to your butts we're switching gears to fanfic universes. Tell me which fanfic universe we're visiting first? @deedala is spot on about cooperative gameplay by grayola for hours and hours of YouTube watching!! Also I Keep Going Over the World We Knew (Over and Over) by Mellacita, where Arthur Pendragon returns to solve the climate crisis with a lot of science and a little bit of magic. I would like to live in that world please.
Cool, do you have one more you'd like to stop at before we head home? Literally any and all of Ravenheart’s Magic AUs
Alright, on our way out of fanfic land you get to snag some tropes to bring home and apply to your own life, think fast! - - soulmates or enemies to lovers // coffee shop or flower shop // fake relationship or slow burn // amnesia or time loop // body swap or miscommunication // love triangle or arranged marriage // sharing a bed or drunken confession
Wow okay, hope those tropes work out for you!! Our adventure has finally come to an end, where in the world am I dropping you off? Can I please be dropped off in malu’s There Are No Gays in Football universe? Where Arthur Pendragon is the bravest puppy - For love, and a little bit because it is the right thing to do.
Thank you kindly.

Looks like they got something good for waiting...
youtube
SOUL, TURNING RED, and LUCA - for some reason, in that order, and not chronological order - come to theaters for the first time in the U.S. in the first quarter of next year.
After all, Disney has *nothing*. Zilch. For that span of time. Nothing blockbuster-y until KINGDOM OF THE PLANET OF THE APES opens on Memorial Day weekend. ELIO and SNOW WHITE being taken out of March 2024 left a massive gap in their schedule...
And WISH ain't doing so hot, so might as well take the three Pixar films that went straight to streaming and put them in theaters. Those three movies pulled in big numbers on Disney+, so I wonder how they'll do in theaters. These aren't necessarily re-releases, which puts them in a unique position... These movies will all be each over 2 years old by March 2024, and it's technically their first theatrical releases... Not really re-releases... Unless you want to say "they're re-releases of streaming movies."
Like, say, Netflix giving KLAUS a theatrical release some time in the future. Or Sony putting THE MITCHELLS VS. THE MACHINES, VIVO, and WISH DRAGON in theaters while we wait for the third SPIDER-VERSE movie. (Hint hint)
Anyways, this is very exciting news. I've seen every Pixar feature in a theater, so I'll definitely see SOUL, LUCA, and TURNING RED the way they were meant to be seen.
Now get some shorts before 'em, and we're golden. Old or new. BURROW was supposed to accompany SOUL in theaters if it had come out in 2020, it debuted on Disney+ the same day. I certainly watched both in order when they came out on Christmas Day... so maybe they'll attach it to SOUL in theaters? Are new shorts in development? We'll see!
Question Answered: There WILL be shorts attached...
Older ones, though.
SOUL will have, as I guessed, BURROW attached.
TURNING RED will have KITBULL attached.
LUCA will go even further back: FOR THE BIRDS, which ran before MONSTERS, INC. waaaaaay back in 2001, will be attached.
Well how 'bout that?

It's time for the rest with an annoumce
tomorrow morning

2023
I watched Fantastic Voyage (1966)
Despite feeling like I'd seen this film, due to it's endless parodies throughout Pop Culture, I've never really sat down and watched it.
The CIA tasks a crew of people to be shrunken down and placed into the body of the very scientist who developed the shrinking technology. Their time sensitive mission is to remove a blood clot and save the scientist's life.
Maybe it's the color or the sound or just the overall aesthetic of this truly "of it's time" 1960's film, but it's so very comforting to watch. Maybe it's just my own nostalgia, but I found it very relaxing.
The film jumps right into the story. Car crash, credits, a little exposition, and we're prepping the ship and ready to be shrunken down.
That's not to say the movie is a fast paced roller coaster ride. It's much slower than any film would be today. But, it doesn't really waste time. It's a fun idea with a ticking clock mechanic and it's executed pretty damn well.
If we're being honest with ourselves, the plot is ludicrous. To think that the only groundbreaking scientific answer to saving a man's life would be to shrink a team of people and inject them into that man is very silly. But, while watching the film you never really question it. It's such a fun idea that you almost wish we could actually do it. I suppose that's why it's been endlessly parodied. We'd all love to take a little ship and tour the human body.
Movies like this and Planet of the Apes, or shows like the original Star Trek, are what made the 1960's an especially wonderful time for science fiction on film. The special effects aren't amazing and the stories have a bit of silliness to them, but they have an incredibly unique spirit and style that outweighs their shortcomings. In fact, it almost makes their shortcomings part of the enjoyment.
I love 2001: A Space Odyssey which is a triumph of both science fiction storytelling and effects work. But, as much as I adore Kubrick's masterpiece, movies like Fantastic Voyage are just as important to the sci-fi of the 1960's era and shouldn't be tossed aside as being less than. Yes, Fantastic Voyage is just a fun popcorn flick and not a heavy statement about the evolution of mankind, but that doesn't mean it's not as important to the genre and to film history.
Silly, colorful, imaginative and iconic, Fantastic Voyage is a movie that every good film fan and science fiction fan should see.

Na'vi and an interesting thought
So, the worldbuilding of Avatar states that Na'vi and other Pandoran lifeforms are so big because of the moon's lower gravity which makes sense.
What doesn't really make sense, in my opinion, is why the Na'vi are then supposedly 4 times stronger than humans. To be honest, a lot things don't really make sense about Cameron's Na'vi like why do they have bellybuttons, and thus, suggesting the presence of an umbilical cord, if they are non-placental mammals/ mammal-like organisms? But I digress, it's a movie, movies can take creative license- I mean, we're talking about made-up blue people here!
I think Cameron's sort of made the Na'vi a bit too 'better than humans in every way possible' which is fine, but for me it is a bit uninteresting too. Don't get me wrong, the worldbuilding in Avatar is amazing and it's clear a lot of thought was put into it, but some things I felt could have been spicier.
Like, for example, Pandora's lower gravity resulting in Na'vi being maybe around the same strength, if not a little bit weaker than the humans. It doesn't take anything away from them as people! As someone with noodle arms I can say my character has not been detrimented by the fact I can't open jam jars without help or willing it open after a good five minute battle, I can confidently say physical strength is cool but it does not make you lesser if you lack it... unless you need to fend off a bear, then you're sort of in a pickle. However, I do think it would also be an interesting element to add when it comes to how the Na'vi view humans.
Imagine these little, child-sized apes lifting stuff with ease like they have the proportional strength of leaf-cutter ants... that would freak you the fuck out!
Also, the human-Na'vi avatar hybrids. We know the avatars have similar musculature to humans as they're stockier than their Na'vi counterparts. So, does that mean the avatars are stronger? Is that why the avatars would be useful in combat like the recoms? Having the advantage of Na'vi features like excellent eyesight and ability to breathe Pandora's atmosphere but also the strength of humans in Pandora's lower gravity?
It would also make humans a heck of a lot more threatening, even in hand-to-hand combat. Sure, we've got our big fireball hurlers but strip that away and a human could still do some damage. Especially if we go down this more 'scientifically accurate' route and say that the Na'vi probably don't have carbon fibre in their bones because I'm pretty sure that requires elements for the carbon to bind to and reinforce that aren't produced in the body naturally, organic bodies anyways. The Na'vi would really not be happy with these sky-monkeys just flaunting their strength about like arrogant pricks and scooping up the planet's resources to send to Earth so they can begin repairing all the damage they've done there.
Also, being on Pandora would then be such a power-trip for a human because on Earth we're kinda meh. Sure, we have some cool features like we can see colour really well and we can be excellent endurance runners if we put our minds to it... but man! On Pandora?! We'd be like lil' Hercules-es, just running around and lifting stuff like it weighs about the same as a heavy shopping bag (bit exaggerated, things would probably weigh a tad bit more than that but you get the point). Again, this could play into the theme of humanity's arrogance and entitlement in Avatar which is a definite theme, seeing as the baddies seem to think of the Na'vi like stubborn children a lot of the time and seem to be angered by them as more of an inconvenience than a legitimate threat... Well, the anger starts off in that vein.
Just a little interesting thought and what I think could jazz up Avatar a bit :D.

Worth noting that we're almost two weeks into 2024, and there are still two undetermined films on this year's Disney slate...
One of them is just simply "Untitled Disney", and it's set for release September 8, 2024...
The other is the annual Thanksgiving Walt Disney Animation Studios offering.
According to some screenshot of a supposed Disney movie/series slate that was floating around a month ago, Disney took both of these movies off the calendar... But I concluded, for multiple reasons, that that screenshot was fake. As it did not resemble the kind of PDF document that Walt Disney Studios Motion Pictures usually puts out when there's a change in the release schedule. The formatting was all different, and it included Disney+ shows, which these things never do.
So, I rule that the 9/6/2024 release - whatever it may be - and the 11/27/2024 WDAS movie are still on the boards. At the moment... Of course, that's always subject to change!
Disney would've kicked this year off with the Pixar space adventure ELIO in March, but that got pushed all the way back to the summer of 2025... The year instead begins with theatrical releases of the three Pixar films that went straight to Disney+ on their initial release... So the year actually begins, in terms of a NEW theatrically-released movie, with a 20th Century Studios release: Horror reboot THE FIRST OMEN. April 5th.
And earlier today, they moved their new PLANET OF THE APES movie up two weeks, to avoid duking it out with FURIOSA and GARFIELD. Plus they can get all the large-format screens to themselves for a lil' bit.
Anyways, we're in 2024 now... And we know nothing about these two movies. I'm guessing 9/6/2024 is going to be another 20th Century Studios movie, or a Searchlight movie. Sometimes "Untitled Disney" is a placeholder for that kind of movie, and September's usually the time to release one of those kinds of lower budget, more adult-oriented movies.
But we know what's been happening with WDAS' latest pictures at the box office, and who knows what morale is like over there. They too are developing shows for Disney+, like Pixar was, until Iger recently mandated cuts to Pixar after Disney+ continued to lose money for the larger company... I'd imagine WDAS might be in a similar predicament? Maybe not? But it's unusual that we don't know for sure - as in, not through leaks or word thru the trenches - what the 2024 WDAS movie is. Even STRANGE WORLD, we knew about it a year away from release... They're kinda cutting it close with this one?
Unless WDAS takes 2024 off completely, for whatever reason. I figured the very possible animation strike would affect this movie anyways. But even without a strike, their recent woes might lead to a back-to-the-drawing-board moment, as often is the case when a studio has a string of money-losers. It often leads to a week or so of everyone wondering, "What should we be doing? What kinds of movies should we be making??" And then they try that, and they see how that goes...
Anyways, should all go swimmingly, I wouldn't mind seeing the new WDAS get delayed. Especially if it's still having its kinks ironed out. Also, kind of a wild opinion, but WDAS doesn't always have to do the Thanksgiving thing, ya know? STRANGE WORLD and WISH weren't saved by that slot, neither was something like TREASURE PLANET many moons ago. WDAS did do a March release with ZOOTOPIA in 2016, and almost did that again in 2018 (at one point GIGANTIC, at another point RALPH BREAKS THE INTERNET) before abandoning it... Like, a WDAS movie doesn't always have to be the summer or the holiday season. Many other animated movies have proven that, too.
Heck, WDAS movies used to show up at the randomest times of the year. Before the world of blockbuster filmmaking, during a time when the movie theater industry was a whoooole lot different.
Did you know that SNOW WHITE AND THE SEVEN DWARFS, which had its world premiere on December 21, 1937, went into general release... In February of 1938? February. Yes, cold-ass February... And still managed to become, at the time of its release, the highest-grossing film of all time? (A record swiftly usurped by GONE WITH THE WIND a little over a year later.)
PINOCCHIO, CINDERELLA, and PETER PAN were February releases, too. DUMBO and THE JUNGLE BOOK came out near Halloween in their respective release years. BAMBI was a late August release. SLEEPING BEAUTY and 101 DALMATIANS came out in late January of their release years.
Summer slots became more of a regular thing for Disney starting with THE RESCUERS in 1977, which was a June release. THE FOX AND THE HOUND originally was eying Christmas 1980, but because of the Don Bluth-led animator exodus, ended up being a July 1981 release. THE BLACK CAULDRON, similarly, was out in July 1985. THE GREAT MOUSE DETECTIVE? July 1986.
But then once the Renaissance fired up, it was initially all about Thanksgiving. OLIVER & COMPANY, LITTLE MERMAID, RESCUERS DOWN UNDER, BEAUTY AND THE BEAST, and ALADDIN all did the holiday thing...
When THE LION KING broke all records for an animated movie in summer 1994 - the June date given to it after production problems delayed it from its original Thanksgiving 1993 slot, then Disney was all about the summer again. Barring WINNIE THE POOH (2011), the last time WDAS had a summer movie was... 2002... LILO & STITCH. From BOLT-onwards, it was almost always towards the end of the year with their movies. Again, ZOOTOPIA an exception, RAYA AND THE LAST DRAGON as well because of COVID-19 (it would've been Thanksgiving 2020 if nothing had happened).
Maybe it doesn't have to be Thanksgiving/Christmas all the time?
Suppose we see the new WDAS movie in, say, March 2025? And the next, maybe at another time of the year?

Watch "Rise of the Planet of the Apes (2011) - Caesar Speaks Scene (1/5) | Movieclips" on YouTube
This individual seems smarter than his own mother and it's rumored that he is the son of his mother and his mother's brother. Tons of people can't figure it out you actually having a problem with it too because he doesn't look like a link but he is and they say it. Or you could look that way because George did surgery on him and his clothes today don't look like link and they know the difference and they know what the truth is they won't tell our son and they're having a real problem with him what he says is they come here and they look like other people and you think they're linked but a lot of people don't think that he is and when the two links had relations he came out as a normal link and slightly mutated into a human and is not extremely gifted no it's only a small part of his brain and it's a pleasure centers so he doesn't have this much and all of his clothes are like desensitized and Mac wanted it that way and he knows they're like super soldiers too just stronger and faster than most humans and they can withstand more pain and punishment and starvation and more and he knows about it cuz he helped make it happen and unfortunately he's not doing the job to recover and he admits it and he knows he's not he's had a lot of trouble doing it and we can't let the planet go and we can't let other people because he's not doing his job we don't want him to do. But the point is did none of these goofballs around here the big mouth who are retards who supposedly hunt him I've gotten to one ship the ship to talking about is his and his trumps in Mexico and they don't seem to want to pursue the ships it's really weird it's like these clothes who are the higher ups and have the keys and will know where they are and how to launch them an interesting and mostly no all of you are just sitting there saying where nothing and yelling at us and laughing like retarded people or laughing like really smart retarded people and what you're doing is saying is getting you killed because you sound quite insane so it's going to continue like this until you decide to try and do your job but really it looks like you're going to keep doing it until you're all dead and the foreigners will have to take over and we're sure they're going to sit there and infight and we figured it out years ago and now most of ours have
WE HAVE TO DO THE JOB. THERE'S AN EMERGENCY ON WHICH CLEARING THE STATE OF EMERGENCY THESE PEOPLE ARE DOING NOTHING BUT SITTING THERE RIDICULING OUR SON THINKING OF THIS LINK IDIOT BUYS IT AND THEY'RE TRYING TO DUCK HIM AND HE DOESN'T DUCK ANYTHING. WE NEED HIM OUT WE NEED HIM OUT NOW AND WE NEED THINGS TO CHANGE HERE AND THEY'RE NOT AND WE SIMPLY HAVE TO DO THE WORK BECAUSE MOST OF THESE PEOPLE DON'T DO ANYTHING THEY'RE RUNNING INTO THE HOLE WILLY-NILLY THEY'RE NOT DOING ANY ANALYSIS AND NOT SEEING HOW TO ATTACK DID NOT MAKING IT ORDINANCE THAT WORKS AND WE'RE SICK AND TIRED OF IT THEY THINK AT SOME POINT THEY'RE JUST GOING TO GRAB THEM FOR THE KEYS IT'S ALL OVER THIS IS WHAT THE STUPID STATE MEANS AND WE'RE GOING TO STOP THEM AND WE KNEW WHAT IT MEANT AND WE'RE NOT DOING THE JOB EITHER SO I CAN SIT DOWN AND SHOW WHAT WE SHOULD BE DOING OR OUR SON IS GOING TO GET HURT AND MORE PEOPLE ARE GOING TO GET HURT
Thor Freya
But we were wondering is are people blocking our plan because they can't remember it and we have to find out what the hell's going on with that this is a simple plan and it should have been easier than this it's like drudgery and people will keep repeating things that we already know and explaining that's why I don't want to be explained to I want them to start running the plan so we don't have to put up with it
