I noticed in the lore of We Happy Few that Hitler seems to be replaced by Erwin Rommel (see pictures below) and that his right hand man and officer in charge of the occupation of Wellington Wells seems to be Claus von Stauffenberg (see pictures below). If you're a history nut like me you'll know these names are definitely...odd. But I have a thought.
So in history, Colonel Claus von Stauffenberg is best known for the failed government coup on the German Empire and assassination of Hitler; Operation Valkyrie. One of the people he envisioned replacing Hitler was Erwin Rommel, a highly decorated fieldmarschall. I'm wondering if in WHF lore, Operation Valkyrie was executed earlier on in the war and succeeded, and Erwin Rommel was instated as chancellor with Stauffenberg as his right hand. As well as the other conspirators of Valkyrie as the rest of the cabinet. Except unlike real life, with an alternate history twist, Stauffenberg had more malevolent intentions for his insurrection of the German Empire. And that's how we got these two in power in WHF. Just a thought...
“Oh dear, I’m afraid we’ve come to the end of our time.”
dumb rambles under the cut
so it’s not a fully fledged idea, but the more i think about this the more amused i am by a we happy few tsp au. there are two directions that could go—my first idea, which is that narry dragged stanley and the player into we happy few the same way he did portal, minecraft, firewatch etc etc. of course the world itself is empty because it always is, but instead of hearing his voice in your head all the time he would purposefully make himself heard through the speakers or through a glitching television. (this is my personal favorite bc i can totally imagine narry going full drama kid with this one, even though he hates open world games. (“At least this one is sensible enough to lock off certain areas. God forbid you wander off!”)
and of course the second idea is just an au where they live in that world, probably with narry being a replacement for uncle jack and stanley for… arthur, probably? maximum shenanigans ensue.
