I’ve been thinking, and the more I think about it, the more suspicious this whole “witching event of the century” thing becomes to me.

I mean, okay. 5 out of 8 of the witches selected for the competition had no grand motivation for becoming the next Supreme Witch (as far as we know). Eloise specifically seems to see this whole thing as an excuse to have fun, make friends and get more powerful on top of that.

But then you get into the people who actually have backstories revealed, and, well.

Scott was living alone in the woods, desperately trying to learn advanced necromancy with no teacher and stolen books he only half-understood.

Shubble was traveling alone in a caravan, thinking that nobody likes her for her powers and she just makes everyone miserable by just being around them.

Prismarina was on the run from “them”, and only became a Water Witch because she literally dived into the ocean to escape them.

Joey was disowned because he manifested a dangerous power that was opposite to his family’s, and he pushes himself to learn an incompatible type of magic that doesn’t naturally come to him in order to return to them.

And Lauren. Poor Lauren was living alone in the desert to escape bullies who picked on her for not having any magic, and she attached herself to the first person she met since then, even though he literally burned her first.

Actually, when you think about it, ALL of the witches were living alone, presumably. They were isolated.

And Joey, Scott, and Lauren especially weren’t just alone. They were desperate too.

Let’s analyze Joey for a good example. He’d just lost the people who loved him, his home, and his security. Thrown out into the cold because of who he was. Then, not long after he came to terms with the gravity of his situation, an invitation is sent to him in a beam of pure white light. An Invitation to a contest that will (hopefully) grant him the powers to return to his family and be accepted.

It’s a miracle. It’s just what he needed.

But that begs the question... Why?

I mean, of course we know why the witches want to compete. We know that the SW needs a successor.

But... why them?

Lauren and Shubble were literal nobodies before this. Scott was a common theif stealing important tomes from traders and librarians. Joey was a member of a powerful, prestigious bloodline, sure, but the “was” there is the critical word. Pris was a literal fugitive. And Cupquake didn’t even WANT to be the next SW, but Mother Nature sent her on the path to that destiny in order to become a sort of hero. And we all know heroes are most often forced to follow the plot of their stories.

Why, out of all the witches in the world, would the Supreme Witch choose them?

I mean, I guess you could say she was feeling charitable. Even the contestants who didn’t win would grow in power, reaching almost their full potential. The SW is of failing health anyway, and who knows? Maybe she was a former nobody who won her own contest. Maybe she wanted to give the new generation’s contestants a chance. Maybe she was a good witch.

But... what if she wasn’t?

Hear me out. The Supreme Witch is being secretive and vague for a reason. A dark reason.

Maybe... she’s a liar. And maybe all the NPCs are in on it.

Take Ogien for example. She’s a rather rude witch, saying in Pris’s second episode that she “doesn’t have feelings”. She seems to not like Pris right out of the gate, and yet she’s the only one who tells her assigned contestant the full story. I mean,, not to base characters off of appearances, but she does look like a dark and regal villainess to me.

Ogien. What if she was completely and utterly talking out of her ass? What if nothing she said was the truth?

And if Ogien was lying, then, what if Mother Earth herself was also?

“But she’s Mother Nature!” I hear you say, “What reason would a good spirit like her have to lie to one of her followers?”

Let me remind you of something from the Book of Origins. The section on Nature Witches.

“Maker of vines, teller of lies.“

Now, why would that be at the very top of the description? Why are lies so heavily associated with nature witches? Why would the author of the book put so much emphasis on deceit?

Maybe some liars among the Nature Witches gave the others a bad name. Maybe there’s a stereotype among witchkind.

Or maybe this is foreshadowing. Maybe everyone associated with Mother Earth is destined to become caught in a web of lies. Because Mother Earth herself, as a deceitful spider with vine webbing.

And poor Cupquake has no idea.

Here’s my theory. The great challenge that everyone’s been invited to, the race to become the next Supreme Witch... is a total scam.

The SW doesn’t want these people to succeed her. Maybe she doesn’t want anyone to succeed her. Maybe no one will end up getting what they were promised.

But what could the SW want with these inexperienced outcasts? To drain their power, perhaps? To sacrifice them to the mentioned demon, if they even exist?

I guess we’ll find out.

And if this ends up being true, then obviously Cleo will figure this out. I mean, she’s Cleo!

But I don’t think she’ll be the one to realize first.

I think the first one to Know Too Much will be Eloise. Because she is an Illusion Witch. She knows what it’s like to be blinded. She knows how to tell when witches are being misleaded.

But the question is: will the witches be able to save themselves from this trap?

And if things go south, if they’re found out in turn... who will die?

It's clear to me that the trials in Witchcraft SMP got adjusted as time went.

After the first one, they (probably Bertha since she seems to be the organizer) realized that just running through was too easy and they decided to give the next challengers an objective. That's how the three keys came to be.

Then everything seemed more or less fine until Cleo wasted her boss in 15 seconds flat. I think that's what made the organizers decide to make it a bit harder yet for Scott and that's why he was given only one chance instead of 3 and an arguably harder boss with multiple phases.

It may also just be that as time went on they knew that people would naturally grow stronger and more equipped, but I think it's funnier that Cleo just broke every possible record and they went "well fuck your coven then"

THEORY TIME!!! okay so. i know witchcraft smp has Just started but i'm already soooo into this whole concept!

in the letter that each of the witches get, we learn that the supreme witch is *ahem* "dead" and that in the event of their death, 8 witches would then compete for the title.

but! what if the supreme witch isn't truly dead just... disguised❓my theory is that the supreme witch is a title that has to be earned back, so one of these eight witches was the supreme. so, who was the supreme?

i suspect prismarina! there are multiple things about her point of view that lend to this theory. the fact that she is the first to arrive at the towers, the fact that the competition aspect seems furthest from her mind and she gifts Everyone things, considering everyone's motivations hers seem to align with someone coming back to fight for their title, the way she occasionally addresses the supreme witch esp in the third ep when she tells the supreme that she's trying and she's tired of fighting, and later on!!!! right after the fortune teller's, the ohmm. possession O_o

i've seen everyone's pov so far, and tbh none of what they say or do disproves my theory thus far (though someone, can't remember who, has/shows a statue of the "supreme witch" which i think is a misdirect. also someone (joey?) sees the "death" of the supreme witch (who is completely hidden underneath dark robes, concealing and hint of their identity.... 🤔), which doesn't actually end in a death animation sooo. still not disproven 😏)

i really hope for Witchcraft SMP, Lauren really leans into lore and like a more dark/actual backstory. Because when you see her character and general vibes, you wouldn’t expect much lore from her? But the almost foreshadowing line of ‘I hope you don’t betray me!’ when she met Joey? Like... seriously, if that isn’t her setting up a villain arc, I really don’t know what is??? I think she’s the type of person to leave little hints of lore in her videos. Enough strings to grasp onto and connect bit by bit, and every now and then she’ll just drop a huge bombshell casually on us. I am super hyped to see where she goes with this, because in Afterlife SMP, we didn’t get to see too much lore for her, considering the series ended when she was on her... what, 5th death? 6th, maybe? All I’m saying is I really want a Lauren arc where Joey betrays her and she just goes like. batshit crazy. feral, insane even. Like, can you imagine your dearest and first friend betraying you?? So TLDR; Lauren villain arc where she drops tiny bits of lore here and there please

Scott's skull has append in priates smp in the Kesterals Base!!! That's three smp connected by the skull. It appears the the skull start in Pirates smp becuse its lacking scotts eye , the Empire from scott back story, the Wtichcraft because that's after Empires!!! Also on a side note the means Pirate Joey might have been apart of one of the fatoctions!

Ok so im assuming people have already infered that scott is trying to bring someone back from the dead but who? I Think that based oin past series (empires, rats smp etc) that its problably owen or jimmy (or them playing as a chracter) OR its going to be someone from a past seris going along with the theory that all minecraft smps are part of the same multiverse

so

witchcraft is over, right? but wouldn't it be cool if there was a season two? I mean, i know that there probably won't be- but the way scott walked off with milo? that's a very open-ended ending. like, they could easily make a sequel, without much trouble at all.

and there are just so many questions left without answers!

for example:

is scott still friends with the other witches, even without his magical powers? or is he just gone?

are the rest of the witches still living in their builds?

are the towers at spawn just abandoned now?

what happens to agatha/frank/all the other villager traders?

and even some non-lore related questions:

will we see pris in other smps with scott/joey/all the others in the future? what about bertha?

wouldn't it be cool if pris was in empires s3, because now she has connections to several of the server members?

the finishing bit on the final wcsmp tweet:

"until we meet again." we'll probably be seeing more of bertha, and maybe even a season two...? i'm reading too much into this, but season two would be so pog, id love to see some new people such as owen, or maybe lizzie making a more permanent cameo

again, i seriously doubt there will be a sequel. but it would be cool.

I'm rewatching Cleo's Witchcraft SMP episode from today and I was so caught up in the crastle that I did not even hear that she mentioned the Rift

For anyone who doesn't know, we now have one video from Bertha's perspective:

From this we learned a few different things:

Bertha was the one to leave the threatening signs outside of Lauren's and Joey's houses for promotional purposes. She was hoping they would be intrigued and call the number... it obviously didn't work.

Scott can apparently bring pets back to life now, as he brought back Mertha, Bertha's pet goat.

Bertha has a very obvious soft spot for animals and can seemingly communicate with them. This could imply that she once was a nature witch, back when she still was a witch.

On that topic, Bertha is no longer a witch (she put on a witch hat and lamented how much she misses being able to wear it, so it seems obvious) and now mostly defines herself as an entity that is "No one and everyone, everything and everywhere all at once". Also, she's genderless and canonically uses every pronoun because of this!

We also learned that most likely the past Supreme Witch was her sister, and she did something to Bertha that Bertha still hasn't forgiven, and that seemingly prevented her from becoming Supreme Witch. Previously to that, they apparently used to be best friends

My current theory on the last point is that it's a situation similar to Eda and Lilith from TOH. With the less capable sibling cursing the other one in a way that would take away their magic so they can get the title they were aiming at. It seems to be implied that Bertha was the better witch from the fact that she mentioned that teachers would tell her that she would become the new Supreme Witch.

The difference here is that Bertha knows about the curse (or whatever else that something her sister did to her was) and never forgave her sister for it. Plus, if her sister really is the Supreme Witch as it seems to be implied, she's dead now, so there's no longer a chance for reconciliation, which is kinda sad to be honest...
