the japanese waxwing is a passerine bird found throughout the east palaearctic. they lack the namesake waxy red wingtips of other waxwings, but otherwise look similar, with sleek brown plumage and black masks. they feed primarily on fruit and berries, but during the summer, they also feed on insects. they are noisy, social birds that often travel in groups. they have a high-pitched trill as a call, but no true song.
What a treat to see that the first trio of my Bird ABC posts from -- checks -- yes last November, over a year ago, are suddenly on Tumblr’s radar, haha.

Here are two I never posted that were done at the same time. I hit 1000 twitter followers for the first time while posting those, and did a little giveaway in celebration. Two people who were both right around being my 1000th follower (it’s always so hard to know who gets that spot exactly!) got to request additional birds, so here is a Palm Cockatoo and a Cedar Waxwing.
