some The Jaws Of Life takes, now that the album has collectively sunk in for me a bit more, from the perspective of a PTV fan of nine years:
- gonna be bold and say in its own way, this album gives me the most a flair for the dramatic vibes of anything they've released since, ESPECIALLY flawless execution
- emergency contact feels somewhere in between flair and selfish machines, with a modern twist. even lyrically it reminds me of some strange little track that might be in the middle of selfish machines.
- i also saw someone say, before i listened to the album, that it in a sense feels like floral & fading embodied by an album. and in hindsight, i can understand that. i think based on misadventures + things the band has said about this album's direction, people should go in expecting a take on ptv comparable to moments like that, which also manage to encapsulate the past. i will say it reminds me of collide with the sky the least of all the albums, instead choosing to recall ptv's origins, further develop, yet also reinvent, the direction of misadventures, and chase the future of the band.
- and if you want to go HARD to a song? well, you've got the moment that introduced us all to this era, pass the nirvana. truly a track that pushed the boundaries of what ptv's "heavy" side can mean, in my opinion.
- flair and selfish machines were truly NOT *excessively* heavy albums and i wish people would consider that more. did they have their moments? absolutely. but, in fact, that dreamy, confessional, brooding, sort of far out vibe (and take on post hardcore) those albums have most of the time has always been, to me, the quintessential aspect of ptv, and my personal favorite. and the reason selfish machines is my favorite album. and that element is very much there on jaws, just translated more into this evolved sound. to clarify, i'm talking moments like these few
and for me, that's why a massive, yet atmospheric track like even when i'm not with you (+ its counterpart, resilience) feels just right in pierce the veil's discography.
- and then there's moments (like the title track, which initially had me going from "wait, is this a semblance of selfish machines? no, that's not quite right... i don't think i've heard this from them before", or so far so fake's infectiously melodic hooks) that i can't specifically trace back to a specific era, yet feel so unequivocally ptv.
what i'm trying to say, essentially, is that ethos that makes ptv the incredibly unique, somewhat twisted, deeply emotional entity it always has been is abundantly and familiarly there, it just presents itself in a refreshing way.
this is not collide with the sky 2.0. and that, it shouldn't be.
i could talk about pierce the veil forever, man. such an original goddamn band, historically such a unique spin on post hardcore that i've never seen another band quite capture + an ability to go beyond defined genre limitations, one of the bands that made me love music in the first place nine years ago. feel free to share your takes <3

important update in the vic/ptv x dunes saga: here's vic once again onstage giving dunes their flowers, but this time it is filmed by yours truly at the reading show last night
"every single member of that band has inspired me, inspired our band, in some way throughout the course of our lives, from coheed and cambria, circa survive/saosin, my chemical romance, & one of my favorite bands on the planet, called thursday... so i wanna thank those guys for the inspiration they've given us, we would not be a band without those guys... let's give it up for ls dunes"

before i crash i just want to say: fob are finally so so real to me now and that is everything, somewhat like i said in a post earlier today, in regards to my perception of music. the closer i feel to it, the more it means to me. that's how i am, from growing up in the scene.
from patrick commenting endearingly on our lil pit to looking up at both him and pete constantly smiling in our direction (and in response to the crowd/show in general) to the band just existing happily and proudly in front of me (think the end of srar where they all sing along) to one specific moment where fake out started & me and someone near me pulled out our seashells and turned our flashlights on IMMEDIATELY before most folks really caught on and patrick kinda looked from one of us to the other & smiled to finally getting up close to pete for saturday (right under him pretty much!) & being able to fingerpoint right up at him to this song that means so much to me and to have him see it and understand.
for nine years i never had this experience. and even at that first show in july 2014, i didn't experience things in the way i have this past week. i didn't know the fob songs i do now, they didn't hold the meaning they do now, and also i was back aways, not in the pit where, frankly, i belong.
this band and these shows are very very special to me

hello wanted 2 talk about a bunch of fun things from Thursday first show of War All The Time tour 2nite at the Town Ballroom in Buffalo (this will include setlist spoilers)
(starting with a random little video of title track, the rest of it is in the keep reading thingy)
- TURNPIKE DIVIDES FOR THE LAST SONG??? they let her see the light of day!!! i am probably the only person who has heard her at 2/3 of the thursday sets they have seen /lh
- geoff took the piss out of victory records for not paying bands while talking about how i'll be you & jbny are mirrors of each other then played them back to back (also described jbny as their heaviest song.... correct!!!)
- crowd was GREAT. great pits, surfing vibes, actually hell, vibes were just great all around.
- make sure you get there early so you can catch both many eyes & rival schools (steve (thursday) actually played for rival schools today which was cool). i thoroughly enjoyed both sets, and tonight honestly made me a fan of many eyes as a project. i wasn't sure what to expect receptionwise from a buffalo crowd [insert every time i die lore] but everyone showed up for keith (buckley, former singer of etid)/them. i also thought he/they did great, and he seemed genuinely humbled. also saw him around after the show, bro was loading out merch so i didn't wanna bother him, but yeah, dude seemed chill. really enjoyed the songs as well, i'll be spinning them and staying tuned for future releases for sure.
- between that set, everyone just feeling like a true community all night, & a cameo from a local scene legend (if you know hardcore, the singer of terror/buried alive was watching sidestage all show, keith shouted him out hahaha), let's just say i felt like how i'd imagine patriotic americans feel when they hear the national anthem, but the western new yorker edition.
- between rupture and rapture & division st. were probably my favorite non big singles. so great to hear watt in full dude and the crowd was very engaged the whole time
- one thing that really sucks is geoff explained as they came out that pretty much all their instruments randomly got stolen right before they left for tour, so they were a little panicky and stuff but basically, nothing was gonna stop them from having a good time in buffalo (paraphrased). apparently when they were sorting out the tour routing a while back someone told them they should start in toronto but they were like, nah dude, we want to start in buffalo. back to my western ny patriotism analogy, i see. anyways, now that's what i call resilience. they put on a great performamce with such great energy, you can tell this is a band that truly loves doing this whole thing. support the guys extra hard this run.
- as the opening bit of understanding started i looked back at the carnage going on in the giant pit that was open at the moment and had to just. smile at That being a moment people were crowdkilling each other to /lh
- i brought my (digital) point & shoot and shot from the crowd! very stoked on those as i was quite close all show, will update with those once i edit em! will probably also be posting a review kinda thing on my site/ziney thing once i get that back up and published
- one final thing that haunts me is the wonder of what geoff was talking about here in this instagram story post from earlier. i even stuck around after the show (which ended around 10:30) in case... i don't know, thursday were to fly out of some sort of confetti cannon at 11 pm sharp, i have no idea, dude. someday i will ask geoff about Minds Blown - 11.00pm
Tumblr media
anyway, every time i've seen thursday this past year of having the joy of really knowing their music (i'd heard of them of course just through being in the scene for years, but had just never listened then) thursdayband has come 2 mean more and more to me and i truly hope they never stop playing together as long as it makes them happy <3

dunes' set at tjol tour tonight in reading just ended and i enjoyed it so i am gonna babble about it a lil while waiting for ptv!!!
i definitely prefer seeing them in smaller venues as i feel that's more their thing, but they did a nice job!
i was further back than i would have preferred but i still enjoyed myself singin along and everyone around me didn't really seem 2 know em much but they were vibing! there were a couple surfers + a pit going (unfortunately i couldn't get over to it but oh well)& everyone was nodding along & taking vids and stuff. this crowd actually seems pretty chill mostly, hopefully it stays that way 4 ptv! no bad vibes like fighting or whatever
strange to see my freakin Band in an environment outside of our usual bubble but it was an interesting experience! honestly went about as well as it could've w this kinda crowd i feel like
definitely made me realize i've GOTTA find a way to that long island dunes show in a couple weeks dude.
overall it is always really cool 2 see two of my favorite bands together, especially neat how vic keeps sayin how inspired ptv is by each of the dunes <3 alright off i go i think ptv are on in like 20 minutes YIPPEE!!! only took a couple vids but i will probably post them later!

recap of wavernot4love's epic thursday, well.... thursday last night (aka the first day of their tour in syracuse w/ gel, pinkshift, & vinnie caruana), let's freakin go!!!
Tumblr media
- geoff seemed SO happy and he was really thriving off our energy it was so nice and infectious that man has been one of my favorite frontpeople ever since i saw thursday at adjacent
- geoff bringing back the bit from adjacent explaining emo nights as unfortunate places where people get drunk and make out to the worst music you could make out to and "just when you think it can't get any worse, a guy turns to you and starts criticizing you on the difference between third and fourth wave emo.... and that's when they play this song" [immediately goes into understanding]
- also the THING he does that i get really excited about where he points the mic during the chorus of understanding idk it's wholesome (you can kinda see it in the clip)
- geoff bringing up it downpouring the whole day and saying it was fitting for thursday and then asking if we'd be down to bring a little party (because even these dudes have a little party in them) and then said they were gonna play their version of a song about new year's and well. naturally, jbny went TOO hard as always. thursday goes heavy may be my favorite take on thursday.... what can i say, the boys can write BANGERS!!! anyways, i always (i say thisblike i have seen them more than twice) go so very hard for this one especially.
- SIGNALS OVER THE AIR!! remains one of my favorite live songs of theirs. neat how much it's been turned into a sort of (?) protest song + celebration. i love geoff's intro every time and i love the way that man loves people
- really cool drastic transition into fast to the end w the whole band suddenly walking back onstage to join geoff and go into it
- geoff is the secret third brother of madball & agnostic front (i am feeling silly and will not be giving context on this one)
- deep cuts were played!!! like beyond the visible spectrum. geoff was telling a story that feels too personal to go into detail here but he did end it by saying music is the way he ecperiences spirituality since he was never able to connect w that kinda thing in the traditional way and that really stuck with me dude
- also steps ascending!
- (after the encore, /lh) "we go back there, die for a minute, and then when we hear you chant thursday enough we resurrect ourselves"
- war all the time felt. very special geoff was going on before it about the thursday dudes having saved his life and being grateful for us for being there so they can share this together for 26 years now and. man it was special i just kept making hand hearts @ geoff. also he said something about us making room for some dudes from a little state called new jersey or something along those lines fhhfhd
and the wavernot4love specialties...
- my bullets lockscreen & past lives homescreen shining in the air every time i went to go into the camera app to take a video .... Yea . geoff and tucker know exactly what i am
- badly yelling "IT'S A NEWSPAPER TRAGEDY" while geoff just like. calmly sort of spoken word'd it
- I GOT A TUCKER THURSDAY KANDI!! aka what i will b wearing every tucker thursday for the foreseeable future
Tumblr media
- didn't get to meet anybody unfortunately this time but i did continue my ongoing unintentional bit of acting like a cryptid around tucker (homie came out just to go to the bus and i didn't wanna bother him since he wasn't fully stopping/was carrying stuff so i stuck my head down at a 90 degree angle to stare at my phone while basically pushing myself into the window behind me dhhdh) ((the first cryptid incident was dunes toronto 23 when i went to go get my posters & cd out of my car after the show a block away then went to go back by the buses & on the way the two of us somehow wound up waiting at the same crosswalk so i tried to hide i was a dunes person and probably just looked twitchy and still like an absolute dunesie))
get out to a show!

surfing the web pre-thursday syracuse tomorrow 4 ideas for a poster to make for the show, specifically in the realm of hardcore adjacent history tied 2 the area
and dove down the wormhole of hellfest (a rather expansive fest based in hc that also stretched broadly across the scene + was held annually in cuse until its last year, when it moved to nj) not having previously realized how far its lineup diversity reached and currently May Be nerding out over this clip of jbny (bullets gerard feature and all, as mcr also played the fest on this day) from the '03 edition (which thursday headlined)'s documentary

code red everyone i am currently finally listening 2 glassjaw for the first time and i can feel the trajectory of my life being altered in real time as we speak i think
this one right here bud
.... historically, if no one else has got me, i know people's random 8tracks playlists from 2014 have got me in discovering my actual favorite music i have ever heard
(this development arising in the wake of my redownloading of that blessed app for the first time in a solid couple of years and also my complete descent into early 2000s post-hardcoreism of the past handful of months)

hi guys. after a very long drive home from camden i am finally going to hit it, but first i just have to say... these three shows changed my goddamn life. tourdust toronto, darien, and now camden.
also, when this tour got announced i was admittedly skeptical about the fob x bmth crossover in terms of crowds & whatnot.... guess i'd forgotten how much i truly love mixed bills. this tour rocked.
seeing two bands i've loved for nine freakin years, that have been there with me since i got into the scene pretty much, for, in the case of bmth, the first time ever, and for fob, the first time since way back then in 2014, changed everything for me. i said in a post the other day that live music has the biggest impact on my love for music, and these shows have truly changed how i hear these songs and how close i feel to these bands.
the connections i formed at this tour, both with the bands like i was just saying, like patrick beaming at us whenever we started to do the stardust project thing the second fake out started, or seeming stoked last night that so many folks had been there for multiple shows (and were there at all), or pete shouting out our little pit at darien, or standing right under him fingerpointing & yelling along while he did his crowd thing during what is probably my favorite song ever, and with everyone i had a blast moshing with every night and singing every word with and engaging in (multiple!) fake out row pits and chatting with and exchanging stickers/bracelets with (i thought it was so sweet when pete acknowledged that whole thing last night), are like none other.
in hindsight, i think toronto was my favorite? but i truly had a blast at all of these shows. if there is a second leg, i can't wait. and i'm endlessly stoked for the inevitable bmth us headliner to come soon, too.
i'm so so glad i made the decision to go to that first toronto show at the last minute. that started all of this.
tourdust forever and ever baby!!!!
