with your tattoo post, what if the s/o asks thrawn to draw them a tattoo? Or Thrawn gives them a tattoo after buying a kit that came with a tatto gun?
Oooooh, anon my beloved, I do love this idea!
So, I see Thrawn as typically unwilling to do his own artwork because he (of all people) knows that artwork bears the soul, and he doesn't want to give others access to his own. However, I could see him making an exception for his lover, but this would have to be for someone he considers a life partner.
He would talk with them to pick out an area that would be incredibly easy to hide, and I think the design would draw from the history and culture of his people. Chiss mythology would be something incredibly obscure and hard for anyone who isn't also Chiss to interpret.
I like to imagine that there's a Chiss myth that speaks about a warrior king and his beloved consort. The warrior was known for his courage, knowledge, and dedication to his people, and his consort was beloved by all for their grace, firey spirit, and wisdom. Think sun/moon imagery or the earth/sky, but, either way, I imagine the two contrast in a way that compliments their legendary love story.
Thrawn grows up hearing this legend and doesn't think much of it until he falls in love with another officer who reminds him a little too much of that legendary consort.
After his own love story begins, Thrawn tells his beloved of the legendary king but doesn't add in the part about the consort until he is certain they are the one for him. One night as he is holding them close in bed, he tells his lover the full mythology and asks them to be his forever.
I imagine the myth ends with the lovers becoming immortalized in the stars after their death, so they'd never have to be apart. It's a constellation that can be seen only in the Ascendency, and I think that is the tattoo Thrawn picks out for his beloved.
I don't see him doing it himself, tbh. Thrawn probably sketches the constellation from memory and hires an artist he has long considered a master at the craft to ink it onto their skin.
Honestly, in this scenario, I could even see him getting the complimentary design. He gets the constellation of the warrior king, and his beloved takes the consort's.
