If I see anyone blaming Biden for student loan forgiveness being struck down I'm gonna lose my shit
Because if you think this is Biden's fault, you're a vapid fucking dumbass
The republicans have fought against loan forgiveness from the start
The republicans filed lawsuits against it
The republicans took it to scotus
And the republican controlled scotus is the one that struck it down
Biden did not have the power to just snap his fingers and make student debt go away, the office of the president is not a king
And don't you fucking dare say anything about "bIdEn CoUlD hAvE eXpAnDeD tHe CoUrT"
NO, HE FUCKING COULDN'T
THAT'S NOT HOW IT FUCKING WORKS
60 votes, the Democrats have 51
Biden and the Democrats are not to Blame here, it's the republicans, it's fucking always the republicans
Vote blue in 24, vote blue no matter what, every election

Central Bucks is well known both statewide and nationally for heated board meetings over masks and Pride flags, policies banning certain books and directives to not use students' preferred names and pronouns. Accusations of discrimination against LGBTQ students have also led to an ongoing investigation by the U.S. Department of Education. […]
If there was a question about whether the conservative-led school board's policies reflected the will of the local community, Tuesday's election may have provided an answer.
Three of the newly elected Democratic school board members will replace Republicans, including the board president, who helped set a right-wing agenda that aligned with national conservative movements around education. Voters effectively flipped the board from majority Republican to majority Democrat.
Republicans also lost majority control of school boards in Iowa, Virginia and a historically conservative district neighboring Central Bucks.
Vote. Especially vote locally. You can make a difference.

“We did vote, you insenstive fuck”
WHAT DO YOU WANT, A COOKIE? “Oh, I already voted, it’s not my--”
YOU KEEP FUCKING VOTING IN EVERY ELECTION FROM SCHOOLBOARD TO PRESIDENT. YOU DON’T HAVE ANY EXCUSES. REPUBLICANS AND CONSERVATIVES GOT TO THIS POINT BY VOTING. YOU’RE A PARTICIPANT IN A DEMOCRACY. PARTICIPATE IN IT.

This should really go without saying, but if you're a US citizen & you're eligible to vote, then get yourself registered, & fucking vote.
And not just the presidential or general elections either. The primaries are just as important.
I checked. We SHOULD get primary voting for the Democratic candidate this year, so if you hate Biden you CAN vote for someone else to run instead. (Preferably someone who doesn't already have a foot in the grave.)
And if you give me any of that "but both sides are bad" bullshit you WILL be blocked.
Because, no, they are not. The reason the US is a fucking pit goes back AT LEAST 40 years with the Reagan administration. Just about everything socially & economically wrong with the US goes back to Ronald Reagan, & every Republican after him insisting that marginalized groups don't deserve basic human rights.
Voting against Republicans isn't gonna magically solve all the problems caused by them because it takes longer to repair something than to destroy it, but it will at least stave off their influence for just a little longer.
Again, you're not MARRYING the person you're voting for. It's a train stop towards progress. It might take a while but it's preferable to going in the opposite direction off a cliff.

State of the Union address to Congress, 7th of March 2024:
I think that all of you progressives will find that Biden agrees with you. Get your Congress members to pass the legislation he suggests.
And read the whole thing.

Welp, midterm election day is upon us! Your Potato voted early by mail, so that's been taken care of for a minute now. But this is a not so gentle reminder to all of my American followers of voting age to GET THE FUCK OUT THERE AND VOTE!!!
We can't change the past, but a vote CAN help shape how we change and build our future.

I’m begging you all: please vote in the midterms. We won in 2020 but we can’t afford to lose ever again.

Republicans OPENLY want to kill queer people, oppress minorities, and turn the country into a christo-fascist dictatorship, but you ABSOLUTE FUCKING DUMBASSES ARE STILL ACTING LIKE THE DEMOCRATS ARE EXACTLY THE SAME, because you don't want to "compromise" your pretentious fake, holier than thou "values"
The only way to preserve democracy and protect people's lives is to vote blue, every position, every election, every year, down the ballot
To the self-righteous pricks who supposedly have liberal views and values but refuse to vote:
Fuck you, rot in hell, everything, every death, every act of tyranny, every drop of blood, is on your hands you selfish pieces of shit

2022 is one of those years when the ideals of the United States are aspirational rather than actual.
My teenagers refused to stand for the national anthem at the concert we went to last night. I can't blame them.
After all, this is not a year when America is the home of the free and the land of the brave. It's not a year when I can easily say that I'm proud to be an American.
I'm proud to be a liberal, though. I'm proud to be an election clerk, keeping one tiny corner of one small city safe for voters. I'm glad that I can call on the police officers at the polling place to kick out harassers. To have them back me up when I ask someone to take off their MAGA hat and they refuse. (I've not needed their help to enforce the no campaigning rule for the other side.) I'm still working on the town clerk about what to do about the disabled man who comes in with his mother, who tells him how to vote.
Being a true patriot is working to make your small corner AND the county AND the state AND the Federal government are accountable to the ideals of this country.
So when you vote in the midterms this year, go to the primaries and pick the person you believe is best for the job. (Don't want to join a party? Go to vote.org and learn how to vote in a primary in your state without enrolling in a party. In some states that means registering as an independent; in Massachusetts there's an Independent party, so make sure to register Unenrolled. When you get to the check-in, choose the party ballot that has your preferred candidate.)
Even-numbered years include elections for Congress (the Senate and House of Representatives), state governor, state legislators, some judges, district attorney, secretary of state (for your state). Congress holds the power for appointing or impeaching Supreme Court justices.
Next year, and any odd-numbered year, make sure to vote in your local elections. Your mayor, city or town council, school board/committee. These people determine the budget for your library and schools and police department. County elections determine things like who runs the sheriff's department and who runs the assessor of property taxes department. Some judges are elected at this level. If you can, go to at least one public government meeting per month. Run for local office or join a local governmental committee by appointment.
Start small for large effects. Sending money to candidates for major offices only goes so far.
Be a patriot. We have to hold each other accountable to the ideals the country was founded on, even if the founders didn't. Even if our Supreme Court doesn't.
Keep the American Experiment going.
