The cushion of my IKEA Poäng chair was quite old and ripped. Instead of buying a new one, to mend it I appliquéd some Red and (roughly) round pieces of old tablecloth. I think I like it better than before.

Visible/Invisible Pocket Mend

Fixed ripped pockets by recreating pockets with scraps of the ripped pocket and scraps from another project

When my coworker tried to rip the stitches on her blazer pockets that were sewn shut, she accidentally ripped the pocket (and missed the tacking stitches)

I took out the ripped pockets, made a pattern, and then moved the unripped portion up on the pattern. I added scrap fabric to the bottom of the pocket to compensate for the part that I removed.

I put the Franken-pocket back in the blazer, and now you can't tell that there's a mend unless you take the pocket out completely.

The pockets aren't perfect, but they're better than they were.

howdy!

this is a fun ~intro post~ for myself.

i’m an artist and i have been posting for awhile on my art instagram, @artsklein​. however i have been wanting to document a lot more casually & with more ease than with instagram, which I want to keep to more finished stuff and occasional story updates. but here i can type a bunch of stuff, make more frequent (theoretically lol) and generally more informative posts & documentation.

so hi! a bit about me to kick off the blog:

college student (currently on a full-time internship so I have more time and money than usual lol)

major: civil engineering w/ sustainability certificate

live in Pennsylvania USA

art focuses: currently primarily sewing!! sewing sewing sewing. I sew clothes and plushies, costumes and clothing, just all sorts of stuff. i’ve been very into historical sewing (mostly content because i don’t have the capacity to actually recreate historical stuff right now). i also do embroidery, various fiber art (like crochet and quilting and braiding/macramé), drawing/sketching (pencil, colored pencil, charcoal, oil pastel, markers, pen art, lots of stuff), painting (acrylic, watercolor, gouache), jewelry/beading/wire art, sculptural stuff, and generally just i like to get my hands on lots of art media & styles. 

very into mending, upcycling, sustainability, visible mending, that sort of thing. 

this is tumblr so I gotta list some content i’m a fan of: lord of the rings/the hobbit (very into tolkein’s work), over the garden wall (love halloween/autumn vibes), what we do in the shadows, studio ghibli films, lots more

i watch a lot of youtube (especially sewists, diy, vintage/antique stuff, and science stuff)

gotta rediscover how to nestle into a tumblr community (i spent a lot of time on this site years ago on a different account haha) but for now just gonna post some stuff and see where it goes :^)
