On the eve of their high school graduation, two academic superstars and best friends realize they should have worked less and played more. Determined not to fall short of their peers, the girls try to cram four years of fun into one night. (via IMDb)
Highlight/s: 💖Beanie Feldstein💖Diana Silvers💖Jessica Williams💖etc. So many beautiful women in this film tbh I can't deal 💀; The school principal enthusiastically connecting Molly's phone audio to his car speakers to listen to "their music" unaware that the girls are actually watching porn, their scramble to turn it off, and the principal thinking it was a Cardi B track - I fucking choked; THE DOLLS FSKASFJSKAHSK; Omnipresent Billie Lourd lmaooo & smiley Skyler Gisondo 😄; The central relationship, Molly & Amy's friendship, doesn't get drowned out by some boring annoying hetero romance - in fact the main romantic subplot from the start is Amy, an out lesbian, trying to find the courage to speak to her crush before it's too late and *SPOILERS* she actually gets a happy ending eventually!; Molly & Amy's graduation ceremony entrance 😂; Ponytail balaclavas sjkghskfjk
Lowlight/s: There was something about the ten or so minutes after Molly & Amy dancing in the street that annoyed me.. I almost turned it off tbh. I can't put my finger on exactly what it was though bc there were a few moments in there that did make me laugh, so I might come back to this once I figure it out lol. Maybe I was just in the wrong headspace initially idk.
Will I watch it again? I think so, yes.

Geez Molly! I didn’t know you were THAT driven!

(Hopefully by this point you’ve finished all 102 minutes of ‘Booksmart’, the kind of person who isn’t bothered by spoilers, or are just deciding if you still want to keep watching.)

No!!!??? The Pizza guy is actually....I have no idea what to say. I’m just glad that Molly used her strong personality for good (to convince the prosecutor to drop the charges in exchange for information).
I wonder why we weren’t able to meet Molly’s parents (did I miss something?) despite her being the protagonist.
PS: Exhibit A ---- put your best scene first! (The one that ended up on film was so much better than what the script had)
PPS: Jared having to read Molly’s speech reminded me of that episode of ‘The Good Wife’ where Eli had to read what the teleprompter has prepared for Alicia.
NOTE TO PARENTS: It might not be your preferred film to get your kid to avoid getting into a situation where she wouldn’t be able to say no to dangerous drugs...but at least you can start a conversation once you find out if she watched it with her friends...right?

HIGHLIGHT:
INT. HONDA SEDAN - NIGHT
The LIDO PIZZA GUY gets into his vehicle. We know that it's LIDO's because of the flourescent logo on the roof.
MOLLY & AMY Delivery Guy!
LIDO PIZZA GUY Oh my God!
He jumps as the girls sit up from the backseat and lean towards him. They've shaped their hair into some sort of identity protection: like a face ponytail.
LIDO PIZZA GUY Oh my God! What the ----!
MOLLY stares at him menacingly.
The delivery guy looks at them. Confused, surprised, and not sure what to do.
LIDO PIZZA GUY What the ---- is this!?
MOLLY We ask the questions!!!
AMY is starting to be amused. The driver leans against his steering wheel. Breath slowing.
LIDO PIZZA GUY Oh my God. Oh, ----, ----, ----. Is this some Manson family ----? What is this?
He turns back to the girls.
MOLLY No!
AMY has switched back to mercenary mode.
AMY No! Everything is gonna be just fine! You're just gonna give us the address to where you delivered some pizzas tonight.
The guy does a double take. Is he being 'punked'? He throws a quick glance outside.
LIDO PIZZA GUY Oh, my God. Are you guys out of your ------ mind? How old are you by the way?
MOLLY (deep voice) Does not matter!
LIDO PIZZA GUY Okay, that voice did not make you sound older. So you're basically children? And you just willingly got in the car of a strange man?
MOLLY and AMY throw each other a look. This is going downhill.
LIDO PIZZA GUY Do you guys have a weapon?
MOLLY Yes.
She turns to her friend.
AMY (quietly) If we claim to have a weapon, this might be a felony.
MOLLY ----.
LIDO PIZZA GUY Okay, so you're using your hair as a mask and trying to rob someone with no weapon. Because the funny thing is, I actually...
He reaches in the glove box.
LIDO PIZZA GUY ...have a weapon.
He pulls out a revolver.
The girls scream and cower.
He returns the gun back.
MOLLY What the ----? You have a gun!
LIDO PIZZA GUY I keep that to protect myself from bad people. Something you guys should be thinking about.
--------
My verdict of the film: 6/10
Link to the timestamp commentary: None (I would consider doing something for a rewatch depending on requests)
A Formal Review: Hopefully it’ll be up this week!
More of my comments about the film: None as of yet...
