“Katara and Aang had no chemistry!”
No.
Katara and Aang had chemistry. They enjoyed being in the presence of each other. They did fun activities together like penguin sledding and dancing. Katara has been affectionate with Aang through hugging and cheek kisses. They’ve developed a strong bond of trust that they’re willing to share deep conversations. They started off as two strangers getting to know each other, developing into a friendship that soon developed into a romance. Their chemistry was always there.
What you really mean to say is that their relationship dynamic did not appeal to you personally. You’re just so used to misinterpreting chemistry as ‘my personal shipping preference’ over ‘two people enjoying each other’s company and developing a bond of trust.’
Katara and Aang had chemistry with each other. Their relationship dynamic just didn’t appeal to you. That’s really all you had to say.

IDK mate, maybe the lot of us hate Z/tar/ians because of the way they demonize Aang, reduce Katara into an abused housewife that needs Zuko’s saving and call the thing we love and enjoy toxic and unhealthy.
You want to talk about moral shipping standards? Z/tar/ians are judging a 12 year old kid and accusing him of being a sexual predator because he kissed off guard Katara that one time.
They can ship it if they want, really. We’re just sick of the mental gymnastics they have to make to justify why they should’ve been the canon pairing in the end. And we’re sick of them dragging Aang’s character through the mud.
Also, maybe the ATLA fandom wouldn’t look down on the ZK fandom so much if you guys didn’t perpetuate this kind of behavior- lol.

Part of me wants to run a KA/ATLA discord server, but another part of me has bad memories of being in another ship server and leaving because of discourse and bullying.

Why I don’t like nor ship Z/tar/a 🔥🚫💧
From a canon perspective:
I like Katara and Zuko as characters independent from each other. I feel that there is no need for them to be romantically involved.
The show had already given me much incentive as to why I feel for Katara and Aang’s relationship. Them being together in the end after episodes of buildup just makes more sense to me.
I’m not the biggest Maiko shipper, but I still feel Mai is still a better fit for Zuko than Katara. Sure, both of them lost their moms, but both Zuko and Mai grew up in the fire nation within abusive households. I’m sure those two would have a LOT more to relate to than “I lost my mom” But then got her back years later.
I just really can’t see Zuko wanting to be in a relationship with Katara. Like- I know Zuko has no romantic interest in Katara (and vise-versa) and it just feels really OOC for (both of them) to be in relationship with each other. Hell, we even see TWICE that the idea of them being a pairing disgusts them/makes them uncomfortable.
From a fandom perspective:
The ZK fandom’s harassment towards KA shippers for the last two decades. Their intrusive behavior and overall toxicity has killed any incentive for me to be intrigued by the idea of them as a couple. Coming across fanart of the two of them in a romantic setting makes me physically ill.
I’m repulsed by the idea of Katara marrying into the family that was responsible for the genocide of her own.
The way she’s oversexualized in the fandom, be it in her FN garb or her being tied to a tree.
The fandom reducing her to an abused housewife/baby-maker that needs Zuko’s saving.
Zuko being over-glorified as if he still doesn’t have some internalized racism that needs to be addressed. I love him- but he’s still problematic trash.
The fandom’s need to demonize or infantalize Asng- just because Katara was the one she CHOSE to be with.
Really, any other Zuko ship that doesnt involve Katara (or his own goddamn sister, Azula) I can vibe with.
TLDR: The ship makes the characters come off as completely OOC for me and the fandom is obnoxiously toxic. I’m already devoted to Kataang and there are better Zuko ships out there.

“But did she kill him tho?”
Yes. Literally yes, she did. Aang literally says that “He wasn’t just knocked out- he was gone.” Katara was only able to bring him back to life by healing him with water that contained high spiritual energy. He fell into a coma thereafter. But regardless if he survived or not, Azula’s full intention was to murder the Avatar and she showed no remorse in doing so.
“But also, didn’t Aang allow alot of people to die including the Air Nation due to him running away tho?”
Are we really blaming Aang for the genocide of his own people? Something he didn’t foresee would happen when he ran away? Sure, Aang blames himself for what happened- but it’s not entirely his fault.
It’s like Katara said- there wouldn’t have been much for him to do about it as he was still an Avatar in training. He likely would’ve died along the rest of them. And again, unlike Azula, Aang actually shows remorse for what happened to his people.
I like Azula. She’s one of my favorite villains. But that’s exactly how I like her- as a villain. I personally don’t care for her being redeemed.
If you want to read about Azula redemption, I’m not gonna stop you. Go for it. It’s not an impossible concept, but it’s also not one I’m a fan of.
TLDR: Aang had no idea what would happen to his people and it’s not entirely his fault, but he still shows remorse. Azula knew exactly what she was doing and was proud about it. Azula is a villain and that’s okay.

People who think Aang’s parenting is on the same level as Ozai’s need to have their internet taken away from them.
What Aang did: Happen to spend a little more time with one of his kids more so than his other two, but was accepting and loving of his children- especially with Kya being a lesbian.
With Ozai did: Physically and emotionally abused his children, even pitting his favorite child against the other. He literally burned half of his son’s face off for voicing concern over the soldiers of his own country. He did not hesitate in wanting to kill off said son for finally standing up against him.
But yeah, because Katara ended up with Aang instead of Zuko, clearly Aang is parallel to Ozai 🤡

I like the idea of Zukka’s concept, but I could easily be turned off by it by its fandom. Namely because of their treatment of both Mai and Suki (neither of those girls can catch a break). It can be paralleled to why zeeks hate Aang, and why I’m so adverse to the idea of z/tar/a.
Unlike z/tar/a though, I can actually see the potential between Zuko and Sokka.
So yeah, I like the idea of the ship, but I’m side-eyeing the fuck out of you if you talk shit about either Mai or Suki.

This dislike and aversion from the Netflix series is less coming from me being worried that they’ll change the endgame couple (I honestly don’t care if they do) but more from the fact that I am annoyed that they are trying to retell this already amazing series through a live-action medium. (For a second time)
And that stems from just being sick of Live-Action adaptions from popular animated shows/movies in general.
Obviously, I have the choice not to watch it. And maybe I’ll watch it when it’s all been finished with and I have nothing else to do.
As I keep saying, I feel like this potential would’ve been better spent on making a series based on the Kyoshi novels (and by extension, Yangchen). I have nothing against live action adaptions based on books. I’m just tired of them rehashing from an animated property.
If you’re excited for it, then by all means, I hope you enjoy it.

I feel like K.atara’s forgiving of Z.uko would’ve been more satisfying if she was actually shown how much Z.uko was willing to protect Aang. It would at least convince her that he is on the path of wanting to change. His forgiveness in TSR felt rushed.

Zeeks: Aang wanted his way with K.atara and tried to kiss her in EIP! She rejected him because she only sees him as a brother-son and loves Z.uko!
People who actually payed attention: Aang didn’t know any better and kissed K.atara on impulse because he wanted confirmation that K.atara felt the same way. He shouldn’t have done that, and later berates himself for it. No one in the Kataang fandom is celebrating him doing so. That being said, the scene needed to be written to give some insight on K.atara’s feelings. In truth, she rejected him, not because she doesn’t have romantic feelings for him, but she’s afraid of starting a relationship with him during a time when the war is still ongoing and she’s afraid of the possibility that she might lose him again. It isn’t until the end of the war, she confirms her reciprocated feelings by initiating the final kiss.

Ship Z/tar/a if you want, I don’t care. I’m still allowed to vent about the why the ship makes me genuinely uncomfortable and it’s fandom’s rancid behavior. And it’s not like I’m posting my stuff in the main ship tag.
If you don’t like that, either filter out #antizutara or block this whole blog altogether.

I stan Kataang, but I multiship Zukaang and Maitara. I also like MaiLee. And I’d ship Toko based on a specific context.
I even multiship in other fandoms. Yeah, I have my one go to OTP- but I like entertaining the idea of other pairings if I’m interested.
At the same time, some ships make me uncomfortable, or their fandom has been too toxic for me- I’m turned off the pairing completely. That’s why I’m not shipping Z/tar/a in tandem with Kataang/Zukaang
Also in LoK, my heart still has a soft spot for Borra, even though I’m a hardcore Korrasami shipper now.

No but like, I know Toph and Zuko wouldn’t work out romantically in the context of the actual show- and that sort of thing would only happen in fanon or an AU. And preferably when they’re both grown ass adults.
But I still often think about the missed potential for their friendship dynamic. Crazy how the two with so much in common have little interaction time together.

The argument against Kataang being incest is so fucking stupid. It boils down to the zeekays projecting this mother/son sister/brother dynamic onto the two characters and then getting mad when the canon points out otherwise.
Katara and Aang’s relationship was built on two absolute strangers becoming close friends to slowly developing into a romance. It was only perceived by z/ks to be a sibling dynamic/mother-son dynamic because they didn’t want to acknowledge that Katara in turn actually had feelings for Aang.
The only time Katara and Aang were actually considered ‘siblings’ was during the episode where the show actively made fun of itself (and by extent- it’s stupid side of the fandom).
And Yes, Zeeks will try to bring up the reference to the Pieta as some sort of proof that their dynamic is mother and son, but that’s such a shallow way of interpreting it. If anything, that moment symbolizes the fall of a savior. Katara being presented as Aang’s “mother” is irrelevant.

I’ll admit, during my early years in the fandom I was considering shipping T/aang. Of course I was persuaded by the DoBS Kataang kiss and realized- oh yeah, Kataang was always there.
Now-a-days, I really value their friendship/sibling like dynamic. I don’t think a romance between them would work.

I’ll be honest, Toph becoming a cop never sat right with me. Lin I could understand, in wanting to follow in her parent’s footsteps. But I have this whole AU/headfanon where it was Lin’s father, Kanto who founded the police force through metalbending and the idea of him being obsessed with maintaining order through inner corruption is what strained his relationship with Toph.
Idk
