Ru has always believed in magic, but as someone in academics she is often laughed at for her beliefs. One day she called to the shattered city, where the destruction of a whole city that evaporated happened to study the mysterious artifact. When she touches it, the whole dig site is vaporized and then Ru wakes up blind in the middle of crater with a mysterious man helping her. Now she must uncover the secrets of the artifact.
This book really kind of disappointed me. I was expecting it to be wayyy better than it was. The plot definitely drew me in, but couldn’t keep my attention due to the lack of world building. You are thrown in there with the MC themselves and I feel like I was just as confused as they are.
The pacing was all over and the big plot twist at the end? Wasn’t really a plot twist-I guessed it right at The begging of the book, and even then it didn’t matter because I felt like it was run right over because the author needed to set up the next book in the series. All the information the character had learned didn’t seem to matter because the author needed to set up the next book and that was more important.
The characters themselves were…. Okay I guess. I felt the romance plot was very forced and the FMC gave me very Pick Me vibes(I hate to say it I really do but that’s definitely the vibe I was getting from her)-She whined and complained a lot and it really set me off from her character. She felt very emotional thru out the entire book. Adding to the romance, I couldn’t tell if it was trying to be YA or adult(I know it’s a slow burn but I was even guessing towards the end of the book).
I will say though the author does have wonderful Diction. It added a lot and helped me push thru the book.
Again, to say I’m not mad I’m disappointed. It really seemed like it was going to be a great read for me.

Stella’s Christmas Tree farm is in trouble. More than she thought it was when she bought it. So she enters a famous influencer’s competition to help the farm generate some buzz. Only problem? She lied on her application and said she had a boyfriend to make her farm more appealing to this influencer and she doesn’t actually have a boyfriend……So when her long time crush Luca volunteers to play the role, wonderful fake dating chaos ensues.
First of, I absolutely adored the chemistry between the two characters. It was very well written. Luka the male mc is so charming and caring.
The small town setting and the community vibes are perfect! You can tell the community is something that is very important to the main characters and I did enjoy that change of pace. It’s nice when the characters seem to care about the other side characters especially in a romance novel.
The side plot had me rolling on the floor laughing about how funny it is! It was just silly-but I’m also glad it was there, it allowed for more communication between the characters and fit into the plot well!
Overall if you enjoy rom coms I think any typical romance reader will enjoy this novel!

When her father dies, Galdina is forced to take the crown. Only problem? She hasn’t received her power from the gods yet, and can’t technically take the throne until she receives it. Not to mention, there are many people who wish not to see Galdina on the throne. The Syndicate-The other governing body, still view her as a child, and believe she needs to be married before she can take the throne-leading to 5 suitors showing up during the week of mourning.
This book gives me such red queen by Victoria Aveyard! It has that same kind of plot feel-The plot twists have me reeling, so much so I wanted to throw my book across the room. This book kept me very much engaged, which is hard to do with me and fanasty. The book overall was just very well written and was easy for my brain to understand.
The characterization and character growth was generally amazing. I really enjoyed it!
I also loved the use of multi-POV, it really added that extra kick/layer to the storyline.
My only complaint is that it could’ve used a tiny more world building in the begging-more than just a map. The way the world is set up is perfect, as it’s definitely unique but it was hard to fully grasp because they were saying all these words about the highlands and the low lands and I had no idea what they were talking about!
They also alluded to mistakes that the former king made- but didn’t actually explain them and just alluded to them.
Overall it was a great read, highly recommend if you love Victoria Aveyard or even Leigh Bardugo!

After her dad dies, the only stability in Lola’s life is her job. Little does she realize her performance is slowly slipping and her boss is NOT happy about it. She has one more chance to prove herself, a trip to Greece-which happens to also be were Lola’s dad is from. Only problem tho? Her boss thinks she needs a babysitter…. And that babysitter happens to be none other than Kai, the office golden boy.
First off, this book really really surprised me. I wasn’t expecting to enjoy it this much. There was great character growth. It was written very well, and I also enjoyed how believable it felt. I loved that it had a different style to it then most workplace romances. The couple was very cute-The MMC, Kai is definitely a sweet talker(There was several different moments of jealousy that had me kicking and screaming my feet)!
I think if you enjoyed the Spanish love deception, you will enjoy this book- it has the same sort of vibes!
My only major thing is that the plot felt a tiny bit repetitive. The couple kept launching into fights that to me seem about very small things. That being said, I think it did help to add some depth to the characters so.
I highly recommend this to anybody who likes a cutesy rom-com read where the characters have to grow to be together.

When Shelby's father passes, his winery starts to fall apart. Shelby, who is the only sibling left, hires a investment firm to help pull the winery out of the funk. Along with that, comes Nate, a man just out of a long term relationship with a specialty with wineries, whose father also is dying from cancer and refuses treatment. Can they make it out of this mess together?
So, let's start off with the positives, shall we? It has very cute hallmark vibes, and the plot felt very well thought out-miscommunication trope isn't one of my favorites but I think it was very well played out. The pacing is also very fast, so if your NOT looking for a slow-burn, this may be right up your ally.
Now on to the negatives, to me it felt like there was A TON of trauma dumping. Like right off the bat. I understand the need for worldbuilding/context, but it was like a punch in the gut.
I don't feel like the characters had a good enough chemistry. It felt very forced. The character's personalities were just too mismatched to me. I was questioning the relationship in general.
The Spice...... I didn't feel was written well at all. It felt like a teenager was writing it on Wattpad/AO3. Which is okay if your in to that kind of thing, but I was expecting a little bit more....

So, one day, Lara falls into the world of fairye. Right into the lap of the cursed Black Blood prince, Ever. Who is cursed to rule due to the black blood running thru his veins. If he does not find his queen, then the black blood will kill him due to this family curse. but then Lara falls into his lap, and suddenly everything gets messed up.
First off, to me this book reads like a cruel prince x beauty and the beast novel. Lara does not give me Jude vibes but Ever does give me Carden vibes.
The world building is very unique. Not a concept I have heard before. With communities like booktok and bookstagram, I feel like the enemies to lovers fantasy trope is getting very congested, and this book I think brought something different to the trope. The plot wasn't your typical enemies to lovers plot. The leads also had ton of chemistry.
Not going to lie, the pregnancy trope thru me off a bit. Like most readers, I don't like it. That being said I do understand why it is there. It's written into the world building.
I didn't love it but didn't hate it.

Review: When Nina dies in his arms, Nester does what any rational person would do when the love of his life dies. He runs. Nine years later, when the ranch is overun by war, Nester must come back to help his family and convince a old friend not to fight. Imagen his surprise when he finds Nina is very much alive and well, but also very much pissed at him. Can they find a way to come back together?
First off, not to sound like my AP english teacher but the diction in this book? AMAZING. I really felt transported to 1800's western Texas.
Nester is the perfect example of "If he wanted too, he would" He is the perfect example of the perfect boyfriend and really goes above and beyond.
While we are on characterization, I LOVE Nina. She is such a strong female character that I really enjoyed reading about. She is now one of my favorite and is on my list of women I want to be growing up.
Honestly, NO NOTES.. JUST GO READ IT ALREADY!

Uma is the leader of the Teller kids. Her Job? Making deals. Anything from love to grades to dealing with bullies. When she screws up a deal between her step sister and her best friends due to her not believing in love, her business starts to suffer. In comes the captain of her dad's soccer team, Charlie; who is determined to make her believe in love again.
So first off I wanna say I feel like this book is trying to hard. It tries to make itself like Disney's Descendants but it doesn't really work. I feel as if that is what the author was trying to convey, they should of included more world building. Full discloser, I didn't full read the synopsis, and when I dove back into this book I had to-I felt like THAT MUCH world building was missing.
Adding on to that, I feel as though Uma's story was trying to be a retelling of The Little Mermaid and Cinderella. Personally though, I feel like there wasn't a lot of world building and or plot to push that narrative.
My only other major thing, is the idea of love is very very heavy for a book set in highschool. As someone who is in highschool I can say, real love is the last thing on my mind!
There are also exact Disney references in the book, which I honestly didn't hate.
This book is also very very fast paced which could be good if your trying to get out of a reading slump.
I feel like this book is better for the middle grade readers. That pre-teen age I feel would be perfect for this.

Naeomi has grown up in the arena, helping with her father's animals. She is engaged with her father's worker Felix who believes she is better suited to work in the kitchen than with the animals. Little does her family know, all she wishes is to be a gladiator. One day she gets caught up training and one of the gladiator's calls her out. Little does she know he was going to turn her world around. Lidia, Naeomi's sister has always wished for a finer life. One day, she accidently wanders into the palace and gets swept up into being one of the "Emperor's girls" which then leads her down a path that has her questioning everything she has been taught.
This is honestly one of the first historical fiction novels I have really enjoyed in a hot minute. I think the author uses wonderful diction to really set you in the story. This book honestly had me forgetting I was reading for a little bit there, the author does that good of a job bringing Ancient Rome to life.
I also feel as though the characterization was very, very strong. Cato, the love interest I felt specifically had lots of depth to him, more than usual. I have to say I really enjoyed it. It's something I wish it was present in more novels instead of slapping on the "I have Daddy Issues" trope on love interest. Give me a love interest who actually has the same amount of thought as the female love interest. Exactly like what the author does in this book.
The last thing and probably the most important? The plot itself? AMAZING. LITERALLY HAD ME THROWING MY KINDLE ACROSS THE ROOM. HAD ME ON THE EDGE OF MY SEAT THE ENTIRE TIME. This historical fiction novel read more like a adventure novel than a typical historical fiction novel, and I LOVED IT.
I feel like any Percy Jackson kid would enjoy this, as well as people who enjoy romance, or action movies. This book is a wonderful blend of genres and I think most people will just generally enjoy this one!

Nico is the star rookie of the Orchid Beach NHL team. Harper is the new team photographer. They meet one night in the club and hook-up, without knowing there relationship could both cause them more harm then good.
Okay, so lets start with the goods shall we? I loved the disability representation. The pacing was fast but I understand why it was written that way.
Now for the negatives. My main thing is that it doesn't seem like either of the MC'S cared about getting caught-the main thing that was keeping the couple apart. It felt like it was missing some reaction. It felt like "Yeah if we get caught, no big deal" The plot just felt fake. It was there, I get why it was there, it just felt like the characters needed to generally care more. To add to that, the climax felt fake. Like it didn't feel dramatic enough, it was just another day in the character's lives and not the worst moment/obstacle that they had to overcome.
I didn't hate it, but I didn't love it either overall it was mid. I think you will enjoy this book if you like smut heavier books and light reads. It was a cute rom-com read.

Alizeh is a long lost Jinn princess just trying to make it to the next day. Serving as a "Snoda"(The lowest class in this society) in a Duchess's home, Alizeh is trying to make a living as well as a seamstress. While out one morning trying to sell her clothing but she gets cornered by a hungry orphan boy. This one interaction leads to Alizeh meeting the prince, and setting in the motion the steps for Alizeh to start to claim her crown, what she was raised to do.
First off, this is written in dual p.o.v. Typically I don't like books with dual p.o.v, but I believe the author uses it very well in this case. While were on it, I think the dual p.o.v. allows for the characterization of the prince. I loved that he had some real depth to him.
The banter and tension? *Chefs Kiss* hats off to the author for perfecting it!
This book is advised as mostly a romance novel. While I do agree, I think it's more of a secondary plot. Not insignificant enough to be viewed as a subplot, but not enough of it to be on a bright red banner on the book. This first book is mostly tension of the fantasy world itself I feel.
I will say though the romance gives me "Rewrite the Stars" from The Greatest Showman vibes.
The plot had me on the edge of my seat, it carries a very adventurous pacing.
Also, the diction is absolutely amazing. I feel analyzing some of these paragraphs would be more beneficial to my English class than some of the other novels we read.
If you are a romantasy girl and you haven't pick this up, your missing out! Go now! The third book just came out so what are you waiting for?

Tessa’s life has been plagued by rebellion… she is trying to escape her kingdom’s corrupt king, but then she gets chosen as the next mortal bride for him. She escapes, little does she know, she gets dumped in the arms of The Shadow King-Who by rumor is supposedly worse than Oberion(Her king) now she must figure a way out to save her family and herself, while also working with the infamous shadow king.
Okay. If you like Cruel Prince, ACOTAR, The shadows between us, or any other highly popular booktok Enimies to Lovers, YOU HAVE TO PICK THIS ONE UP. The banter was amazing, the chemistry between our two leads is very well written.
The concept of the book is very unique. I feel like now people are running out of stuff the write about, but the way the combined tropes work, it creates a very unique story, one that I quite like.
I will also give another complement to the author, I think this is the first time I have picked up a fantasy novel and have been able to clearly decifer what was going on before half way thru the book. The author did a great job making the world building easy to understand!
The only thing negative thing I have to say is that pacing was a little uneven. It starts out slow, then picked up and runs as fast as it can.
I am going to pick up the second book in the series-which is weird because typically I don’t do that especially with review reads. I just enjoyed the book that much!

Maya's Laws of Love by Alina Khawaja
Tumblr media
Book Stats: Rating:⭐⭐⭐⭐(4/5) Spice Rating: Clean Romance ❤️ Tropes: Fake-Dating, Right person-wrong time, running to catch the other lead before they leave forever Publisher: Harlequin Publishing
Review:
*Thank you so so much to Harlequin publishing for giving me a copy of this book to read for free in exchange for a free review- I wasn't expecting to get approved, so it really means a lot that you trust little old me to do the book justice!*
On her way to her arranged wedding in Pakistan, Maya gets trapped in a cycle of freak travel accidents. Her plane gets grounded in Switzerland, her bus to her family home's town breaks down and a whole bunch of other shenanigans. Luckily though, instead of having to face all of this alone, she somehow ropes in the stranger sitting next to her on the plane-who was very much a jerk to her when they met in the airport the first time, to facing all of this with her. They face a mount of challenges. The real question boils down to- will Maya make it to the wedding on time, and if so, will she still go thru with it?
So first off, I love the idea of this being a travel romance. It really sets it apart from your other romance novels. It is not your sterotypical plot line is what I am trying to say. It kept me constantly engaged too. I will say also that the plot twist that happen are perfect and really balanced, you think after so many of them that the reader may tire, but I know i didn't. I think this maybe was the author brings a really fresh one every time.
I absolutely LOVED the characters in this one. They had great chemistry and the dynamic they had was really really different and unique. I also loved the character growth. The author does an amazing job with writing it.
The micro tropes in this book sent me into a tizzy. Y'all know those "My wife" moments that we all freak out over on booktok about? There was one perfectly well executed in this book and it may have made me scream a little in class. 😅
Also, the diversity. Can we just take a moment for that alone?
If your someone who doesn't prefer spicy, I think this may be one worth picking up. There is none in this novel whatsoever(and let me be clear in saying-I don't think it needs it.)

Naomi and Luca have been pen-pals since the 5th grade. They have kept in touch all these years- until Naomi moves to Miami. Then after 2 years of no contact, the letters start up again-only this time without a return address. So now Naomi starts trying to chase Luca down while also getting to know her new neighbor next store.
Everyone meet my new favorite romance novel. I honestly want to applaud the author, this was a great read.
The characters in this book have great chemistry. They made me laugh and cry and all the fun emotions. I also LOVED the banter, seriously 5/5 stars for just that alone!
I want Anne to be my best friend. I can say that with complete and total seriousness.
Y'all. I really want to see this book go viral! I think it has the potential to be THE NEXT BIG ROMANCE NOVEL! Yes, It isn't that spicy, but it honestly worked better that way. It gave more time for the wonderful banter and tension. It's a perfect rom-com read!
So, I only have one negative(Its the reason its not 5 stars because it majorly bothers me). The plot build up was too long. I think because of that the ending of the book felt rushed. All that tension and build-up and yes it ended with a sweet ending, but it felt fast. That being said, I did enjoy the 3rd act breakup, which I normally don't in books.
Hate Mail comes out March 14th, make sure to pick up your own copy!

Tropes: Enemies to Lovers I guess(If you can call it that)

Review:
*Disclaimer- Before I start I wanna say I may not enjoy everything you read and you may not enjoy everything I read and that’s okay. This is one of those situations were a lot of my thoughts about this book are opinions-and that’s okay. You don’t have to agree with everything I say, and that’s okay.*
So, Wes is a world famous movie star who is working on a modern adaptation of Pride and Prejudice called “First Sentences” that is set in Greece. While there he meet the “Best Stunt Woman in the world” and falls in love with her over the course of shooting the movie. Only problem? Ava the stunt woman is terminally ill. Will she and Wes find a way to their happily ever after?
I’m going to start with the one good thing…..It was a interesting concept for plot.
This one was interesting… to say the least. First off, it was written from a boy’s POV. Which I understand wanting to stand out but it felt like Wes was a horny teenage boy who couldn’t control himself. Throw in some fae-like possessiveness and you’ve got a sort of a weirdo main character. Honestly, it made me a little uncomfortable the way the MC was describing the FMC.
I couldn’t follow the plot. I think it’s because their was wayyyyy too much thought from the MC and not nearly enough dialogue. Not to mention the context in which the two characters meet makes no sense. Why do they need a stunt actor on the set of a modern romance movie? And along the lines of that, if the FMC is the best stunt actor in the bussiness, why is she nervous around the camera? I’m serious…. There was a whole scene where the MC calms down the FMC. It was a cute thought, but makes no sense in terms of the context of the situation. The plot twists as well, made no sense.
It felt like the whole story was missing something. It just didn’t help my overall thoughts about the book. I understand the book is part of a series, but it doesn’t count to write a whole book if book one doesn’t have a stopping point. It just felt as it left of in the middle of the story. Let me clear, not a cliffhanger. Just a weirdo place that left the whole book feeling unfinished.
The enemies to lovers plot line? Didn’t feel right. It felt more as though it was Wes just pining after the FMC and get just rejecting him.
Also, while I’m on it, The author tries to throw in some huge character growth, problem is, it doesn’t work. I think this is because again, too much thought from the MC and not enough dialogue. The author tries to play it off as “the MC is trying to change for the girl” but their is nothing in the first place that says the FMC hates how he is in the first place. The MC just assumes that she does. It just left me confused and irritated.
The whole book just left me with a bad taste in my mouth. I am trying to be better about DNF’ing but it was already in my review journal so I pushed thru.

The Wolf Den By Eloide Harper
Tumblr media
Book Stats:
Rating: ⭐️⭐️⭐️(3.5/5)
Spice Rating:🌶️🌶️(2/5)
Trigger Warning: Rape, Crude Language
Tropes: Myth/Ancient Retelling
Publisher: Union Square and Co.
Review:
Set in the ancient city of Pompeii, Amara is part of the “wolf den” or the town brothel. She was sold into slavery by her mother that desperately needed money after her father dies. Unlike her other friends in the brothel, her spirit is not broken. Amara is determined to find her own freedom again, but at what cost?
So, I think the major thing I enjoyed was the balance between feminism and traditional society standards. Amara understands her place in the world and wants to fight it but she also understands that she needs to use what she has-Men.
I enjoyed the characters a lot- I feel like the women especially had a lot of depth to them that you don’t normally find. Amara specifically felt as though she had more depth than normal main characters we see. In my opinion, I think the trauma of the brothel women is also written very very well.
I absolutely loved the world building/setting. The author paints a beautiful picture of ancient Pompeii. Especially the festival scenes.
Now on to the negatives. This book was HARD for me to read. It couldn’t keep me engaged and I had to read paragraphs a couple of times over before I understood what was going on. I understand this is a ancient retelling but I didn’t enjoy the writing style at all. I can usually finish a book like this in a day or two, but because of how hard my brain was trying to comprehend the writing style-it took me 5……
The plot I felt needed alittle more flushing out. The climax felt like it was in a werid place(instead of at 75%- it was at 85%- which I know isn’t a big deal but it felt like some of the smaller details could have been overlooked in favor of the plot in general) and the book felt unfinished-I know it a series, but go me it felt like the climax of the plot happened and then BAMM book over!
I think you will enjoy this book if your interested in ancient mythology and feminism. It is definitely a different take on the matter, one that I quite enjoyed!

Spice Rating: 🌶️(0.5/5-Clean Romance)
Tropes:Multiple timelines, Forbidden Romance, Can’t escape fate
Publisher: Anchor Books
Review:
Celia and Marco have been preparing their whole lives for this competition. They have no idea what this competition is, just that they must win. Next thing you know they have been thrown into a magical circus constantly competing for the title of winner. But little do they know, they were going to fall hopelessly in love with each other.
First off, the world building was amazing. The diction the author uses paints a beautiful picture. One that keeps pulling the reader in deeper and deeper. The magic system was freakin perfect. Truly well written, you can truly tell the author put a lot of thought into it.
The romance was beautifully written, seriously I haven’t felt this attached to a book couple in years(probably since I read TOG).
I cannot tell you how amazing the plot is-extremely well written. The way all the timelines wrap up perfectly(chef’s kiss) I loved the ending, seriously. The student outdoes the master. Truthfully, I think I like this novel more than carnival….
Honestly, no complaints just go pick the book up and read it already.
