08.13 fairy realm | vala/octavia/regongar set during the house at the edge of time
The First Realm is hardly Vala’s favorite place. There’s times when the very essence of her magic feels like it could leap from beneath her skin, and times when she isn’t sure she can muster the effort it takes to summon her druidic powers.
Here, though, in Nyrissa’s twisted house outside of time, all alone, with only the twisted tricks and magics of the fae to keep her company, Vala really rather thinks that the First Realm is designed to be her own personal hell. And really, knowing Nyrissa, this damned house just might be.
She watches Linzi fall, and once she’s shed as much blood as she’s able she picks up the journal and grips it, white-knuckled, as if she could tear some answers out of it by force. She watches Jaethal cut down Tristian in front of her, and as much as she’s glad to have her back and as much as she waves off his death by insisting she really should have done the same, back in the tombs beneath Varnhold, she almost can’t tear her eyes from his too-still body.
Slowly, the rest of their party joins them once more — with the exception of Octavia and Regongar, and with every step further into the nightmarish manor, Vala feels her pulse quicken and rage slip white-hot into her blood.
She loves them fiercely, as she knows they love her, and she thinks some of their group is just now realizing just how deeply and entirely she cares for the pair.
They talk. Everyone does. Vala knows this, knows that there’s gossip throughout the capital and amongst her friends that there’s something shallow about the love the three of them have for each other — that Vala only cares for having a pair of attractive arm-pieces, and desires a powerful, beautiful entourage more than she does lovers to dote upon; that Octavia wants multiple partners only to test and push them, to dip her toes across the boundaries of what’s good and proper; that Regongar’s only interest is in what happens between them in the bedroom, rather than any interest in a real, stable relationship.
And perhaps there’s truth in all that, Vala thinks, feeling rather bare without them at her side. But there’s truth, too, in the moments they’d stolen for themselves, meant only for the three of them and not for all the others who seem to have such a self-important view of their queen’s private affairs.
There’s truth in the quiet mornings she’d spent with Regongar, holding him and slowly quieting his doubts, assuring him that he’s loved, so entirely and so deeply and so passionately, and that no matter which of his flaws he’s fixated on she won’t ever let him, even for a moment, think they’re the cause of any regrets or reservations she has towards him. There’s truth in the loud, lighthearted evenings shared with Octavia, talking and laughing and kissing and baring themselves in ways unfamiliar to them both, as they learn each others’ boundaries and earn each others’ trust, each too lost in the other for the moment to be anything but whole and real. There’s truth, too, in the warm afternoons spent with all three of them lounging together, talking about whatever futures they could have — will have, one day — and Vala decides that as soon as she finds them and they’re all back together, she’s going to marry them both in the most delightfully lavish ceremony the Shrike Hills have ever seen.
It’s enough to keep her going, trudging slow but sure footed through the house of mist and magic and mischief, the trek long enough that Vala knows exactly how she’s going to kill Nyrissa when she finds her.
But first, she has to find Octavia and Regongar. And then she’s going to tear this entire house down, brick by fucking brick.

what's your favourite thing about stargate?
I love the found family aspect. I love how openly affectionate they are with each other, how they would do anything for each other.
I also like the petty banter and Jack's dad jokes. and how Jack is so confused but John is smarter than he lets on. and how Elizabeth stands somewhere between "stern mum" and "tired babysitter".

Ba'al retires on Earth like Lucifer fic idea
Sam and Jack are going to get married and Vala organides Sam's Bachelorette party. They go to Vegas.
They're at a casino enjoying themselves when Vala spots someone familiar at a Blackjack table.
it's Ba'al
but it can't be, can it?
They start discussing possible explanations and the casino employee overhears it.
"Nonono", they say "That man over there is our esteemed gust Mr. Simon!" He tells them that he owns a nightclub and several other businesses like hotels and bars in LA.
Sam and Vala exchange a Look™ and then call SGC.
They get a background check done and it turns out that yes, this man is a businessman and filthy rich, but he appeared just a few years ago out of thin air.
SGC checks in with the Tok'ra and they still have the Ba'al host body who's got the symbiote extracted in Continuum with them.
it's Ba'al. A real, full Goa'Uld Ba'al. Either the original or another clone, but that doesn't really matter at the moment, what matter is that there's a real Ba'al in the casino with them.
Sam and Vala slowly turn and look - stare - at Ba'al, who's totally winning Blackjack and looks at the Blackjack casino guy in an inappropriate way.
They continue to stare and suddenly Ba'al looks directly at them and winks.
They quickly turn around and go "oh shit", because he's probably going to flee now and then they have to deal with a rogue Goa'Uld on the loose in Vegas all during Sam's bachelorette party.
Their short panic is interrupted by a polite waiter who offers them expensive looking cocktails. "We didn't order those" "They are a gift from Mr. Simon over there"
Mr. Simon is no longer over there.
They get up to search for Ba'al, Vala takes both cocktails because "It'd be a shame to waste them!“ (she's right, they look delicious).
They check the other rooms and hallways and look! They actually find him rather quickly.
He is busy being inappropriate with the casino guy.
This is embarrassing. For them, not Ba'al, he gives not a single fuck that smug bastard.
Casino guy thankfully leaves and Ba'al's all "And how may I help you dear ladies?“, grinning like the cat who just ate the canary and being a general slime bag.
Vala goes full confrontation, he knows how he can help them - by coming with them to the SGC, he's hereby under arrest.
Ba'al raises one smug eyebrow and answers that he is an upstanding citizen simply enjoying the pleasures that Vegas has to offer and has done nothing wrong in his entire life
They argue over Ba'al's identity even though they all know that he's lying.
Before things can get too heated, however, Sam gets a call from the wedding venue.
It burned down. (Was it arson? An elaborate plan of Ba'al's to ruin the wedding? Who knows.)
Vala, who organised it and really wants her friend's wedding to be perfect is more upset and distraught than the actual bride.
"Where are we going to find a new venue in just one day?"
Well. Ba'al owns several suitable venues, he offers. Even though their insistance on him being a murderer AND an alien is irritating to say the least, he would not want to see anyone's happiest day in their life ruined!
It's a terrible idea. They call SGC. It is decided that yes, this is the best solution, because they get a wedding venue and they can keep an eye on Ba'al.
Ba'al is thrilled and grins like the Cheshire cat.
Sam empties the cocktails by herself.
Vala swears that she'll personally strangle Ba'al if he dares ruin the wedding.
No one knows how to explain this to Jack.

I played a thrilling game of Smash or Pass: Drow Ver.. with @lawful-evil-novelist and here are my personal results:
Let's just forget the racism for now, my fellow ibliths
Jarlaxle - most likely Smash, but I'm paranoid he might leave me in the morning without saying anything, so we'd have to go on a date or two so I can gauge his interest and likelihood of him doing that
Kimmuriel - maybe Smash? I like him but he wouldn't like me, so we should go on a date or two so he can ease up and hopefully like me more. He will 100% hear the circus clown meme music playing on loop playing in my head on our date.
Rai'Guy - Pass. He naturally rubs me the wrong way and he's grumpy and not even in an amusing way to me personally.
Valas - Smash, I say as I immediately slam my hand on the buzzer that signals a Yes in this dating show I made up in my head.
Zaknafein - Smash. I get that he has a drinking problem and anger issues but I'm willing to look past that based on how much of a DILF he is.
Beniago - Smash. Seems one of the most friendly of Bregan D'aerthe and seems like a nice guy overall. He also seems entertaining without running the risk of being obnoxious like Jarlaxle.
Drizzt - respectful Pass. He's just not my type. He's a little too serious for my taste.
Gromph - possibly a Smash but he's on thin fucking ice. Probably one of the most insufferable but he's got that classy man appeal. He needs to take me on at least five dates and then I'll make my decision.
I left out some, ofc to make this fairly short. I invite @rukafais @kimmurielscryingmirror and anyone else they want to invite (if at all, I get some people have different sexualities and some do not wish to disclose publicly)

You guys were oddly supportive of my creepy-Morgoth drawing.  I’m concerned.
...
Anyway, here’s a mountain-sized Oromë who may or may not be fused to Nahar’s back.
Tumblr media
That blurry thing above his right antler is a discarded drawing that didn’t erase properly, but we’re going to pretend it was intentional because if you look at it right you can pretend it’s Vala magic or something.  Maybe aurora borealis is the trail of his antlers as he rides across the sky and whenever he stops moving you can see it forming into ghostly outlines of animals and monsters.  Does Middle Earth already have lore for the northern lights or not?

08.11 hospital | vala, maegar welcome to ot3: They All Need Therapy
The meeting amongst Vala’s advisors is relatively brief and endlessly boring.
She still doesn’t quite understand why, as queen, she’s forced to endure such needless minutiae when she’s paying an entire council of people to deal with problems in her stead. Still, apparently her opinion on whether or not to continue pouring gold into the development of a little village along a major trade route is, in fact, very important.
Vala doesn’t much care – what she does care about is that the debate would be much, much simpler had her treasurer deemed his own presence necessary.
She likes Maegar. She has since she’d first met him at Jamandi’s mansion, and as much as she still thinks he rules with too soft a hand, she can appreciate that he, like her, has no patience for all the damned politics that accompanies power. They’re hardly kindred spirits, but she respects him.
His sudden indifference to his position within her council, however, she finds despicable.
It makes her rethink her decision to so quickly appoint him to her council of advisors; there had been weeks of talks to finalize the ceding of Varnhold to Vala, but as soon as Maegar had suggested it, Vala had, in turn, suggested a place for him in her council. She’d hardly known anything about the man at the time, but the first two months after joining had proven fruitful – until he’d approached her to ask about a journey into Lostlarn Keep.
They’d rescued a dwarven woman – Elena is her name, she thinks, but Vala knows little else about her – but she’s remained in some sort of magically-induced sleep for the past week, and Vala isn’t sure Maegar has left their makeshift hospital since. So, when the meeting is adjourned and Vala is freed from the more tedious aspects of ruling, she heads straight for the hospital with the intention of demanding Maegar put an end to his needless vigil.
She finds him, as expected, seated beside Elena’s bedside, hunched over with one of her hands in both of his. Vala plants herself on the other side of the bed, arms crossed, waiting for Maegar to acknowledge her presence.
He doesn’t.
With a frown, Vala clears her throat and asks, “Did you resign and I wasn’t aware, or did you not realize that your presence as treasurer is not voluntary?”
Maegar looks up with a curious, unfocused glance that Vala takes to mean he hadn’t actually realized she’d approached. “I– yes, I know. Jhod says…'' He trails off, his gaze focusing once more on Elena’s sleeping form. “He thinks she’ll wake soon, but there’s no way to know for sure.”
Vala narrows her eyes; Jhod had told her that Elena was perfectly fine. “Even so, I can’t allow my advisors to abandon their duties at every minor inconvenience.”
“I’ll gladly step aside if that’s what is required of me.”
The fervor and insistence in his voice is a surprise to Vala, and she finds herself staring down at him, curious. “When you asked me to join you at Lostlarn Keep, you said she’s the woman you intend to marry.” It’s not a question, exactly, but Vala finds herself struck rather suddenly with the realization that Maegar’s bond with this woman must be… considerable.
There’s a softness to the way he looks down at Elena, a vulnerability and openness in the smile he wears. “She is.” He’s silent for a moment, then gives a dry chuckle. “If she’ll still have me, that is. I look forward to the earful she’s going to give me about giving away her home and her job.”
“Her job?”
“She served as my General in Varnhold, and was part of the Host before that.” Maegar’s expression darkens, the lovesick adoration fading to something closer to grief. “I no longer have a council or a mercenary group, so I have little to offer her anymore.”
The heaviness of his words sparks a realization in Vala’s mind as she thinks back to their expedition into the cursed keep. “The remains we found near her – you knew them.”
“Yes.” Maegar meets her gaze for the first time that evening, such bright grief in his eyes that Vala almost feels guilty for not making the connection earlier. “Quen, Lyra, and Fen. There were others for a while, but most left when we settled in Varnhold. But none traveled with me for as long as Cephal or Elena did.” He’s silent for a long moment, then his head drops again and his shoulders slump as he hunches over once more – whether weighed down by regret or in mourning, Vala can’t tell.
She thinks on his words, surprised to find that she not just sympathizes with him, she finds it almost admirable; if something were to happen to her, she thinks, Octavia and Regongar would be alright – the pair have been through enough together that she knows they would be strong enough to mourn her and move on. If something were to happen to Regongar, Vala thinks that she and Octavia would manage, provided they could both push past their grief and despair.
But, she knows, if something were to ever happen to Octavia, she and Regongar would both lose themselves in their vengeance and rage, both feeding off of each other in the worst way. If it were Octavia lying in front of her, rather than Elena, there wouldn’t be anyone to hold her hand as she slept – Vala and Regongar would be too busy cutting a bloody, merciless swathe through whoever they deemed responsible.
“Take whatever time you need,” Vala says, the words sudden and without pretense. “Linzi can handle the treasury until you’re ready to return.”
Maegar gives her a slow, confused look – almost as if trying to decide if he’s heard her correctly. “Thank you,” he says after a moment, sounding no less uncertain than he looks.
“I would commit unspeakable atrocities in my grief. Your quiet mourning is… admirable.” Brow furrowed, Vala gives Maegar an awkward, stilted nod and leaves without saying more. There’s no use in pretending that she and Regongar wouldn’t seek revenge, but the thought of Octavia lying alone in their hospital – compared to Maegar offering quiet companionship to Elena – has left her unsettled.

Varl is courageous, a fierce Brave who doesn’t hesitate to protect his tribe and his friends, quick with a smile and an easy laugh, with a sense of humor Sona knows he didn’t inherit from her.
Vala was all these things and more, other traits she shared with her brother: altruistic, confident, with a languid grace that spoke of contentment in herself as not only a warrior but as a person.
As Aloy tells her tale, tears in her eyes, Sona reflects on another way her two children were alike: both lie dead beneath the ground well before their time.

OCs as other Characters
Thanks a lot for the tag @shynrel-vp and @imaginarycyberpunk2023
Rules: take this quiz and share 5 (or more! or less! the world is your oyster!) results from the top 50 that you feel really fit your oc(s). if you don’t recognize very many from the top 50, feel free to expand into the top 100.
Tumblr media
Made this first for Vala and i had to expand to the Top 100, cause tbh a lot of the people on the Top 50 list i either didn't know (well enough) or simply thought it doesn't match at all:
But the best match for Vala is apparantly Violet Parr (The Incredibles) with 87% and i think i like that and can also kinda see that.
Leonard Hofstadter (The Big Bang Theory): 81%
Lane Kim (Gilmore Girls): 79%
Leo Fitz (Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.): 79%
Willow Rosenberg (Buffy the Vampire Slayer): 77%
Amy Farrah Fowler (The Big Bang Theory): 75%
Tumblr media
And since two people tagged me (🥺🥰) i also shamelessly made this for Lexa too. Also chose the Top 100 this time, but at least i knew a lot more people the list.
Lexa's best match is Mystique (X-Men) with 84%. Not really sure about that, but i think it's kinda awesome.
Yennefer (The Witcher): 80%
Mazikeen (Lucifer): 79%
The Joker (The Dark Knight): 76%
Octavia Blake (The 100): 74%
Dr. Hannibal Lecter (The Silence of the Lambs): 73%
I'm not completely sure about these lists for both of them, but some names, that popped up (and i knew) were pretty cool. So yay 😂
I tag without any pressure of course: @miss--river , @genocidalfetus , @fereldanwench , @wanderingaldecaldo , @dustymagpie

Upperclassmen HCs (1)
We saw very little of them in general but they went so hard with their designs and moments, so this is me trying to flesh them out a bit with headcanons and some observations/analysis about them and their relationships with each other because YES I’M STILL THINKING SO HARD ABOUT THE UPPERCLASSMEN, THEY ARE LITERALLY SO COOL AND I WANT HTEM BaCK
I don’t know enough about norse mythology to implement it to my HCs and stuff in a meaningful way </3 so it’s just me thinking - posting the rest under the cut because it just hit me not everyone has that funny feature to shorten long posts instantly
this post only has Vidar, Hoder, Vala and Vali! I’ll post the others soon!
Tumblr media
If Baldr is a parallel to Xehanort, it makes sense to me for Vidar to be a foil to Eraqus - the first pair share similar circumstances, Baldr exists to show what could happen to Xehanort if he strayed too far. They clash because they both are, essentially, massive outcasts due to their special ability and had different ways of coping and dealing with it. Meanwhile, Vidar and Eraqus share similar extreme mindsets and opinions, but they clash because Vidar is an unstoppable force (he forces change and pushes through adversity because that’s the only way light will grow stronger) and Eraqus is an immovable object (he remains stagnant because nothing can get worse if things don’t change at all, light WILL remain strong as long as nothing tips the scales).
That’s is why I like to think Vidar is considered the leader of the upperclassmen, he’s the most adaptable and open to change. This also draws a nice parallel to Xehanort, who is also seen as a leader (albeit reluctant and more casual) on account of his perspective and potential knowledge as an outsider - people trust Vidar because his perspective and knowledge come from knowing everyone in the circle, being able to put their skills and strengths to good use. Even with figures like Heimdall and Helgi who can be more analytical and stubborn respectively, or with someone as capricious as Vala - all of them trust Vidar’s judgement and confidence in the end.
I guess his fatal flaw could also be the way he so easily accepts change? He overlooks the way life changing events can affect people, too busy focusing on how to achieve the best outcome, assuming everyone will be able to follow. If Eraqus is so reluctant to change, grow and let go of people he cares about, then Vidar is constantly on the move even if it means leaving some people behind for the greater good.
Not to say he’s entirely oblivious to emotions or cruel enough to ignore them, it’s more like Vidar knows just how powerful feelings can be and how they can cloud and affect people’s judgements, so he makes a point to remain focused and calm for everyone else’s sake. I definitely can see Vidar as the type of leader that only sees himself as a pillar for everyone to lean on - he can’t cry or openly show weakness, because he needs to be there for everyone else. In his eyes, comfort is a one-way street.
...Which is why his friendship with Hoder and Vali is so important. I love to think of them as best friends, their little own trio because everything has to come in groups of three. The three compliment each other very well and you can just tell they’re close because of the way they interact with each other, even if they’re not together as often as others like Xehanort’s gang. They just get each other, y’know? Hoder and Vali offer the support Vidar needs in a way that he can accept it. Or just sneakily enough that he won’t notice <3
I imagine that his fighting skills are average - he’s still miles ahead from Xehanort and Eraqus with the level of an upperclassmen, but Vidar doesn’t stand out in any specific aspect unlike the others. That doesn’t make him any less dangerous, however - Vidar is in his element when he’s able to control the flow of battle, let it be by guiding his friends and putting their skills to good use or sliding in when needed as support. His keen eye allows him to know if someone’s struggling or not. When alone and facing against stronger enemies, Vidar focuses on outlasting or outrunning his enemy until he can regroup with the others - he uses his surroundings and the general area to his advantage and quickly adapts to his enemy’s patterns.
Tumblr media
Personally, I love that Baldr has this massive burden of peering into people’s hearts, giving him this massive awful complex about realizing the darkness that haunted him was his own, making him chase after his sister, the only person he truly felt safe with. And because Baldr compares himself and his sister to Xehanort and Eraqus, Hoder carries a similar burden to Eraqus - they both believe themselves to be responsible for keeping their respective loved ones from falling to the darkness in the only ways they know how. Eraqus does so by chasing after Xehanort and try to pull him out and back onto what he perceives is the “correct path”. Hoder does so by remaining with Baldr as a “shield” (GET IT. A SHIELD. BALDR’S MASSIVE HEARTLESS. GOD IM IN PAIN) to make the world less scary for him, accidentally keeping him from experiencing life on his own rather than as her own shadow.
I like to think that Hoder essentially taught herself to read people’s feelings with scary accuracy, just so she could know if her brother was struggling in any situation and to remain loving, attentive, receptive and kind at all times. To the point where it became second nature to mediate between people at the cost of her own sense of self. Hoder can tell if you’ve had an awful day or if you’re feeling under the weather just by exchanging a few words or looking at you for a few seconds. But, similar to Baldr, she doesn’t know what to make of herself when left alone.
Her friendship with Vidar and Vali has helped her separate herself from Baldr and slowly come to understand and realize the sort of person she is when she isn’t being Baldr’s anchor. Vidar knows about her strengths and weaknesses, Vali encourages her to step out of the limits she set for herself. Both of them help Hoder solidify her own identity. While she gets along with pretty much everyone, those two are the ones who get to see Hoder at her worst.
Hoder could also be close to Vala, on account of her being straightforward when needed and emotionally mature - she lets Hoder know right away that she doesn’t need a babysitter nor anyone to monitor her feelings so closely. If she gets angry, she knows how to cope with that, Hoder should not be made responsible for her or anyone’s mental and emotional stability. Even if this clashes with Hoder’s struggle and her deep sense of duty, she appreciates Vala all the same, even looking up to her strong personality.
To further push the entire “Hoder as Baldr’s shield” themes, I can see her as a tank, shouldering most of the damage. Hoder makes up for her lack of proper discipline and techniques with her incredible defense - unlike Vidar and Vali, she’s an emotional fighter and her feelings clearly permeate into her fighting style. Hoder is at her best when she’s allowed to cover someone’s back, as having someone to “protect” helps her focus more, this is something she and Helgi have in common. She’s at her worst when left on her own, as she tends to get carried away and forgets to look out for herself - the other upperclassmen know Hoder takes out her unspoken frustrations on the Heartless and she’s extremely embarrassed about it, since “she should know better”.
Tumblr media
Vala is best described as capricious, confusing and playful, which contrasts her “Look At Me, I’m Smart And Elegant And Fragile” look. She likes to make an impact and leave an impression wherever she goes, either that or to keep people guessing, wondering just what her deal is. It’s all in light-hearted fun, of course, there’s never any malicious intent behind her actions or words, but it can rub people the wrong way more than often.
As mentioned before, Vala is extremely mature and attuned to her own feelings. Unlike many of her classmates she knows her limits like the back of her hand, carrying herself with confidence. While Vala enjoy teasing and acting mysterious, she’s honest when needed and never sugarcoats her words. I can also see her being the type to constantly counter or second guess Vidar and his plans, as a way to offer a different perspective and force him to think even further outside the box - “to keep him on his toes” she’d say. Sorta like pokemon rivals, I guess lol.
Since some (if not most) of her dialogue alludes to her sight, I like to think Vala is the type of person who can also pinpoint your vibes with just a single glance - you know, like “oh, I get it. You’re a Moon Virgo, that explains everything” and then you go home, look it up and find out that holy shit, she was right. Another of my personal headcanons for her is that she’s an only child, the kind that would’ve loved to grow up with many siblings - so she gets attached really easily to her juniors and everyone else’s siblings.
As opposed to Vidar, Vala has poor leadership skills - if she’s put in a position of power or authority for any reason, she sort of expects everyone to just do as she says. There’s zero room for questioning her decisions or offering alternatives. Why else would she be in charge otherwise? While it is rather hypocritical of her, Vala actively avoids leadership and is more than content with dumping those heavy responsibilities to someone who’s willing to carry them.
I like the idea of Vala’s personality not quite matching her appearance, and I also love the idea of her fighting style matching exactly the type of person she is - similarly to Aqua, Vala’s fighting style is composed of graceful gestures and dancing, with a heavy focus on magic. That’s the aspect Vala excels at. Whereas Aqua follows a proper rhythmn and moves a lot (since her entire thing is ballet and fluid movements) Vala’s is mostly static, only moving when she feels like it and instead using her signature move, those pillars of light, to keep her opponents away even if she leaves herself rather vulnerable. You’re not fighting Vala, you’re stepping on HER ballroom and dancing to HER tune. Her style is as playful as her, so she’s at her best when left alone or when paired up with someone who can keep up with her, like Sigrun, Vali or, surprisingly, Vidar.
Tumblr media
Ok. Vali as a selective mute. Is that anything? Cause it’s everything to me <3. I love to imagine he only speaks when strictly necessary and signs the rest of the time. It took some time for all upperclassmen to learn but now they constantly have conversations with each other in class whenever Odin has his back turned on them. It’s also super handy during outings to other worlds, in case they need to remain silent - not that they have any need to be extremely stealthy, considering Vali’s skills, his hearing is impeccable and you’ll never hear him approach. In the group, he acts as the perfect scout for recon and gathering intel.
I imagine he and Vidar were childhood friends, and then Hoder came along not too long after - just like the Destiny Island trio! But instead of being a loud group of friends, I can absolutely picture them as the very quiet, very polite kids that barely talk and that every adult adores because “they are just so well-behaved” - when in truth they just really feel awkward or out of place and would rather sit in a corner in silence, together. Parallel play, their beloved. Still, Vali was 100% the one getting them all into shenanigans every single week.
As for dynamics, Vali is a healthy medium between Vidar and Hoder. He’s neither extremely attuned to other people’s feelings nor entirely seeing them as liabilities, but a secret third thing : he’s just a regular guy. While Vidar shows concern through actions and Hoder through words, Vali adapts to ways they both understand and can receive - hence his role as Vidar’s immediate right-hand man. Vali’s eternal loyalty and reliableness puts Vidar’s mind at ease, it’s one less thing for him to worry about. As for Hoder, Vali offers a safe space for her to drop the act and get out of her shell.
For no reason other than me finding it funny, I like to think Heimdall has a casual one-sided rivalry with Vali <3. Vali excels in speed and mobility, something Heimdall very lowkey resents because his thing is ALSO speed. The two spar quite often and it’s quite the spectacle, with others often commenting on both taking it too seriously.
In terms of agility, it’s a tie between Vali and Sigrun. Both are very acrobatic, but while Sigrun uses this skill to get out of harm’s way, Vali uses it to enhance his attacks, to make up for his lack of power and strength. He’s at his best in enclosed or claustrophobic spaces, anywhere with places to climb, jump or grab onto. And, true to his design as a ninja, fights with Vali tend to be a “blink and you miss it” kind of situation, especially because he tends to target outliers or stray targets, or any Heartless aiming to sneak up on someone. He’s at his worst in open, empty spaces, obviously, but Vali’s speed and quick reactions allow him to team up with people like Vala, Heimdall or Helgi.
