okay i gotta say it: foisting alphatauri's renaming as a great tragedy of capitalism upon formula 1 racing & motorsport in general is...a bit much. especially in a sport that has been a very frequent and early adopter of sportswashing? baby, they happily race in places that have less-than-stellar current human rights records BECAUSE OF THE MONEY. it has nothing to do with attendance. you think bahrain and qatar are major ticket sellers and people were truly clamoring for races there? NO, OF COURSE NOT. it's b/c their governments poured hundreds of millions of dollars (if not more) of government money into f1 and the FIA in the name of sanitizing their nation's image in light of ongoing reports of abhorrent treatment of migrant workers and violent action against other groups inside and outside of their countries. (does really no one remember the 2022 saudia arabian gp? the fact the drivers HAD to race—despite close proximity of the track to a recent missile strike site—for fear that they wouldn't have been allowed to leave by the saudi government? no one? just me?) saudi arabia, bahrain, qatar, the uae, and azerbijan are important current examples, but this is by no means new for the sport; india, malaysia, apartheid south africa, china (which may be returning to the calendar this year—it remains to be seen if the race will actually happen), russia, peronist argentina, and turkey have all held races previously with similar intentions.
and if you want to talk about sponsors, let's actually go after the sponsors that are truly problematic. aston martin ARAMCO. mercedes-amg PETRONAS. camel, marlboro (and philip morris, in general, including their "mission winnow" shell project), orlen, shell, agip, uralkali, ftx (along with other crypto companies), among a plethora of historic sponsors.
listen: i'm not saying that the "visa cashapp racing bulls" (or "stake f1 team kick sauber", for that matter) is a great name for a team—or even a good one—but there are much bigger, much worse issues in the sport that need more attention and more concern than a shitty team name or two.

as Brandon Seaber pointed on twitter, how can you make mistakes like that on an official graphic?
they erased the uralkali logo from kevin’s “suit” but not mick’s
if u want to edit kevin on mazepin’s suit then erase his sponsor

If you think Vips has damaged his reputation beyond repair and is out of Redbull and F2, do you think there would be any repercussions for Lawson?
I find it strange Redbull were so quick to suspend Vips but haven’t said anything further on it. I had wondered if they were waiting to see if it quieten down or whether they might be investigating Lawson’s role in it all.
I suspect Lawson has had the bollocking of his life and won't be streaming any time soon.
he and Jüri were already in a very odd position. neither of them really seems to be a full member of the junior team anymore (or at least, they're not as branded as some of the others) but they're very clearly contracted to Red Bull.
something I think is kind of interesting is that Hitech want to have an F1 team. it's always been part of Oliver Oakes' plan for the project, that they take drivers all the way from F4 to F1 and was only sort of slightly interrupted by the whole Uralkali sanctions situation.
in the same stream as the idiot move, Jüri and Liam were joking that they had their own way to F1, that they weren't going to AlphaTauri and I do kinda wonder if it was that. anyway, Oakes won't tolerate that shit (Hitech have had quite enough controversy recently and will need to find sponsors) so that's Vips having very much done himself in and I suspect Lawson by association.
hard not to be extremely angry with them tbh. like, doing something so completely unnecessary that chucks away your career is letting down so many people along the way. imagine, say, if a driver came out and it affected their career; that fucking sucks but also, to be able to live as yourself is something you need to do.
no one fucking needs to say slurs. no one needs to perpetuate and participate in racist harm. if that's who you are as a person fucking change it - conversion therapy from being toxic is actually extremely valid.

Haas had no option but to sign two rookies last year, they had very little funds and couldn’t afford to keep Kevin & Romain and they needed to take on drivers that brought in money in order to keep the team afloat.
Mazepin brought in the Uralkali money, and Schumacher tightened the Ferrari partnership and brought in 1&1.
They never wanted to take on two rookies and if you look at anything they’ve said in the past concerning rookies (even Leclerc) they were adamant that they didn’t want them but they were forced into that situation.
But see, looking where they are now compared to where they were, did they need to?
Uralkali has gone and they’ve survived financially through that. 1&1 stated they wanted a German driver but not who it had to be. They didn’t gain any extra money via the championship in 2020 or 2021 so why are they suddenly in a more financially viable place than they were at the end of 2020 when they ‘couldn’t afford’ Romain and Kevin?
They’ve had a raft of new sponsors and most of those have come via Guenther in DTS. Their driver line up in 2021 didn’t bring any. And given sponsors weren’t signing up thanks to Kevin in 2020, I doubt that’s changed now. They definitely skimmed some of Mazepin’s money but I’m really struggling to see where this massive financial turn around has come from. Something doesn’t quite add up somewhere?

Income from new title sponsor will bring Haas up to cost cap level Steiner | 2022 United States Grand Prix
Hass believe the financial boost from their deal with incoming title sponsor MoneyGram will allow the team to operate at the maximum budget allowed under Formula 1’s cost cap in 2023. Last weekend Haas announced a new, multi-year deal with MoneyGram which will include title sponsorship from next year. The team has been without one since the start of this year when it dropped Russian firm Uralkali following the country’s invasion of Ukraine. F1 currently has a annual cap of $140 million on team budgets, and for 2023 that will decrease to $135 million (£116.8m) although inflationary pressures could mean adjustments are made to that figure. Haas team principal Gunther Steiner said the arrival of MoneyGram “should get us to the cost cap, or at least very close,” in 2023. “We are in the process now to do the budget for next year, so we’ll see where we get to. But that is saying, to get to the cost cap, we were not far off this year to be honest. So hopefully we are at the cost cap next year. “You can also spend money outside of the cost cap with having private jets and stuff like this. We are not there yet, but one day we’ll be there.” The cost cap was introduced in 2021 and initially set at $145 million, with expenses. Three teams have fallen foul of the new rules so far. Aston Martin, Red Bull and Williams were all found to have committed procedural breaches in the submission of their expenditure. However only Red Bull has been found to have exceeded the spending limit. The FIA stated this was a ‘Minor Financial Overspend’, which the regulations state is a breach of the cap by no more than 5%. However Steiner thinks the categorisation of overspending should have narrower windows than a minor breach being as high as almost 105% of the cost cap. “It should be smaller in my opinion,” he said. “If I call it now $140 million budget cap, 5% is $7 million. But in $140 million, you have got certain expenses which you cannot change. “So these expenses are not $7 million on development, it’s expenses, 5% on the development, it’s a bigger number. The percentage is the same, but it makes a bigger difference. And I think we have to rethink that one when the next Concorde Agreement is written.” Advert | Become a RaceFans supporter and go ad-free 2022 United States Grand Prix Browse all 2022 United States Grand Prix articles via RaceFans - Independent Motorsport Coverage https://www.racefans.net/

so, here we go :D
do they have a constructor's championship as well? or each driver drives only for himself? like, are there team orders in f2?
do they really pay to drive? like, they do not get a single penny? how the fuck do they survive then, if this is a full time job?
the drivers from junior programs (FDA, redbull, etc) can drive alongside juniors from "rival" (f1) team's academies? like, fda and rbr juniors in the same team?
why do they change teams so frequently? like, jüri vips and liam lawson looked to be great teammates, why did liam left hitech?
was uralkali involved with any f2 team or was haas the only one that ended up without their financial backing? i saw some teams with the 'uralkali' logo, but i have no idea if sponsorship works the same as it does with f1.
ty <3
sksbskzn so okay here we go
1. They do have a team championship, one team is always celebrated as the ‘winning team’ and the top 3 teams get a trophy for the trophy ceremony at the end of the season. The order of the teams gives the numbers for the cars/drivers for the next season. You will have team orders but drivers also drive for themselves as they need to impress big teams so it can be a bit of a mess like sochi in f3 last year (if i remember correctly) where trident gave an order to jack doohan that could compromise his position in the drivers championship just to secure trident as the team champion. Jack doohan made it known he wasnt happy on the radio.
2. They have to pay to race and f2 is hella expensive, which is why many drivers have to drop out because they dont have the money to go full seasons. Some teams (like the ‘better’ ones) will be more expensive that other teams. Now of they live i don’t really know because it differ for a lot of them. Some academies will help them find a place to live, it just depends on a lot of stuff
3. Yeah, drivers from different academies can be teammates (carlin has an alpine and a rb junior team driver). Some academies will be involved in the future of their drivers and they can decide which team they will be in. Red Bull is more often affiliated with teams like Hitech and Carlin but this year they have a lot of their junior drivers in f2 and you will find them in prema/hitech/dams/carlin. The academies and feeder series teams are different things even if sometimes some academies can help their drivers get a specific seat.
4. They change teams very often if they don’t reach an agreement to stay. And like you have so many young drivers that you can lose your seat for the next season if you didnt meet expectations and if another driver caught the eyes of your team. Now all the negotiating part is clearly and rightfully kept from us but maybe red bull decided to put one of their driver in hitech and they picked liam for it. Sometimes the drivers’ market is a real mess. Some drivers will also change teams for the next season because they dont have the money to stay in this team and they have to settle for another team. Some teams like to keep their drivers longer (prema) because if they win a championship they promise them a seat in the next serie/because they know how the driver work and they feel like they work well together and can fight for a championship.
5. Now the uralkali part osdjdkd oh god. So basically Mazepin’s father kinda bought the team hitech by bringing the uralkali sponsor so his son could race in f2. So Hitech had uralkali as a main sponsor and you’d see it in their different series. Now when Mazepin got yeeted from f1 with his Uralkali sponsor, the hitech drivers got a risk because the team losing a big sponsor meant they were losing money. So ofc Hitech got rid of the Uralkali logos on their suits and cars and Oliver Oakes who was already with Hitech because he’s the director of the team bought the shares of uralkali so his team could be safe
I hope i was helpful and it made sense zjzbzjz

Was asked yesterday what do I think about MOP in the nearest time. A good question, but to answer it we might have a glance back, time before Feb 2022. And even earlier.
Back in the days, MOP business was a pure cartel, in my understanding, led by the Canadian PotashCorp (later Nutrien), Russian International Potash Company (later Uralkali), and Belarusian Potash Company or Belaruskali. Once in the year (rarely two times) they all had agreed the frame contract prices with their main core buyers in India, China, and Brazil. Other producers had to follow.
It all started changing in 2020-2021, when first BPC was sanctioned by both the US and the EU after the controversial president elections in Belarus. Shortly after, after the commencement of the Russian invasion in Ukraine in Feb 2024, Uralkali, or correctly, its management, followed the path.
However, even prior to the sanction, MOP prices had been very high in the range of $650-750 per metric tonne FOB Baltic. But after the commencement of the war, they escalated further up to close to $1000 per metric tonne FOB Baltic. But the most important, the oligopoly was broken. Both Russians and Belorussians started selling through the brokers, who had learned how to bypass (or just ignore) the sanctions and, the most important, how to pay.
Just after Feb 2024, Belarus export halted from almost a million tonnes per month to literally zero (couple of vessels per month). The Belorussian government needed more money, so opportunities opened.
But, later in 2023, BPC concluded their agreements with China and India (albeit for 3 months only) and started discharging into bounding warehouses in Brazil. Export bounced back to 8-9 million tonnes per year. What happened to the price? It dropped back well below $200 per metric tonne FOB Baltic.
Both Uralkali and BPC have restored their country restrictions on MOP trading. And they know how to get paid (remember - sanctions don’t work!). But the oligopoly was broken - so the price war continued.
So what’s about the price forecast? I think, after end-users realized that their fears have been too much exaggerated, the price was pushed too much down. I do believe that prices witnessed now (and in the absence of China and India price agreement I will refer to the CFR Brazil index), which are $305-310 per metric tonne CFR, are fair and affordable if comparing to agri commodities prices. So my view - flat for now. But if we keep on seeing a positive trend on wheat, soybeans, and corn, some uptick is possible.
I do expect that India / China deals will be concluded at around $280-285 per metric tonne CFR, setting a reference price in SEA region.
Thanks for reading!
