And Then It Is Monday - Why Sunday's plan did not (and could not) work

So normally I don't really make longer analysis posts, but I kept seeing people on social media outright supporting Sunday's actions in 2.2, and I wrote something out about why I personally think that Sunday's plan is wrong. I don't know if this is an issue with tumblr as well, given that the people I saw supporting him were on different forms of social media, but regardless.

Before I begin, I'd like to pose a reminder that the opinions in this are mine and mine alone. If you agree, awesome! If not, I'd love to hear your thoughts on it, so long as you're respectful! I have no idea if this is well written or will make any logical sense, but here we go!

(Spoilers for the 2.2 Trailblazer quest under the cut, if that wasn't already obvious)

So the first thing to get off the table: I feel Sunday is a very sympathetic villain, but a villain nonetheless. I understand the people that sympathize with him. I do too, to an extent. He was raised on unhealthy ideals and the belief that he was a "religious figure," one that people looked up to. Other people were allowed to just be, but Sunday always had to be better. He loved his sister, and the people around him, and he wanted to make a better world for them.

But that does not excuse what he did. Making a 'better world' can never come at the cost of taking away people's free will, because that world will never be "better". That's where Sunday's plan falls apart.

Because, yes, there are shitty people in the world, and yes bad things happen. Would it be amazing if we could stop all the bad things from happening ever again, and make the world a much better place? Yes! It would! I would love to live in a world where I don't have to fear for my life and my freedom for an assortment of reasons! But that world doesn't exist--in real life or on Penacony--, and getting it to exist shouldn't be the result of subjugating and controlling other people, because that in and of itself is violence. Albeit a different kind of violence, but violence nonetheless.

Not to mention that things like Sunday's plan and the concept of forcing everyone to act a certain way just to fit this "better world" to me almost serves as a condemnation of human nature and of the very act of choice itself. Your better world starts by saying that some choices are bad, so those choices get taken away, but where does it end? What if someone in charge views a harmless choice as a bad one, and takes away that one in return? Does it stop there, or does it continue, until no one at all is allowed to make any decisions, except those in charge? Who, really, does that benefit?

Consequences for certain choices exist. Generally, society says murder is bad (except for specific circumstances such as self-defense, which technically at that point is no longer even considered murder (at least where I live, it may be different in other areas, but I'm basing this off of my own experience)), so there is a concrete consequence to people murdering people--assuming that they don't get away with it. It doesn't stop people from murdering people, because the liberty of choice is still there, but it shows that just because you can do something doesn't mean you should or that you will escape without consequence.

People are going to do bad things. That is, unfortunately, how humans are. But our responsibility lies in holding ourselves accountable and in promoting growth and healing. That is how you build a better world. Not trapping everyone inside a dream world without any care for their feelings or beliefs, but in getting people the help they need, in fostering a society of positive change and human connection.

And that is why, as "golden" as Sunday's dream may have seemed, it was never going to work. In the end, as the story quest shows, human will and the desire for freedom wins out in the end. When there's a will, there's a way.

thinking about nandor a lot lately. i wonder if he’s so in denial about his feelings and trying to hide them bc he never felt them this intensely. we see he has a few unhealthy romantic relationships throughout the series. he changes his own personality or that of marwas so they can stay together. he also seems to not really care about his romantic relationships from when he was a human, he can’t even remember his favorite wife. but guillermo is always there for him, he feels lost and unbalanced when he’s without him. we see this in Local News but also at the start of season 4 where he figures he must find a replacement for the role that Guillermo has been holding for so long. In episode 1 of season 1 we learn that nandor wants some space from guillermo but every time guillermo gives him that space he immediately wants him back. I still find it odd how much Nandor represses these emotions. Is it because they are unfamiliar? Is it because he really doesn’t want to curse Guillermo with vampirism? Why is he so afraid to just act on his feelings? We know he has no issue getting it on so why is Guillermo so special.

The most recent episode told us that nandor has always had an interest in guillermo. He remembers the thank you card Guillermo gave him when Nandor first hired him. Guillermo must have meant a lot more then Nandors other familiars. Something supporting Nandor not wanting to admit his feelings to protect Guillermo, is that Nandor turned his old familiar Benjy into a vampire. Nandor wanted to get rid of Benjy and he didn’t care about him. Nandor cares about Guillermo and doesn’t want to lose him. Nandor believes Guillermo only sticks around because he wants to be a vampire. If only Nandor knew how much Guillermo loves him…

TMITAWH is 2 years old????!!!!

i cant believe i missed it that sounds so ridiculous to me! in my defense, i was driving for two weeks straight

i don't have anything planned for celebration; i'm so sorry! but i do have some updates!

for those that missed it, tmitawh is now a novel and will no longer be told in an interactive fiction format. this has upset a lot of people. i've lost a lot of followers over this announcement. and i can understand this to some extent, but largely i have to continue to be unapologetic about my choices.

this story is one that has, in every meaning of the phrase, saved my life. writing in this little world has gotten me through some of the darkest times and carried me through to the next day. at some point, IF stopped being a media that was capable of telling the story i wanted to tell.

i'm disheartened by a lot of the anons i've received. some are hateful and unkind. others are upset that they no longer will have the opportunity to pursue Cain or Ezio, and a few mention that they're not interested in reading a lesbian story and will not be reading the book if it ever makes it to publication. i've disregarded the first, but the second cuts the deepest i think.

i have never, ever been shy on this app that i'm a lesbian. i feel as though i've talked endlessly about it. being a lesbian is a huge facet of my identity and being told that, in so many words, a story written for myself, with other queer people in mind, is not for them seems like such a stupid thing to say. like, i didnt write it for you. i wrote it for me. i wrote it for the lesbians who love so violently that they have to hide it away under their clothes, in between their teeth. i wrote it for the lesbians who have been told their love is disgusting, or wrong, or sexy and for a male's pleasure only. i wrote it for the lesbians who are told their love is okay as long as they never show it- as long as they only hold hands at most but never kiss in public. i wrote it for the lesbian who sits in pews and breathes over their hands and wonders if God loves them still.

i'm not sorry to not have written a story catered for you when the whole world is for you. leave me out of your self-absorbed, hateful little orbit.

please know, this blog does not tolerate hatred, bigotry, or harassment in any shape or form. and if you're going to fuck around with me, you sure as hell are going to find out with me.

i want to thank you all who have been overwhelmingly positive and supportive of my endeavors!! it means the absolute world to me!! i sometimes hold myself at night and think of all the kind words y'all have sent over these past two years and just sob. never in my life before this could i have imagined sharing my work with people who give a shit and care. it warms me in ways i cannot begin to describe. i love you and i hope you are well as always. my inbox/dms are open ANYTIME if you just want to chat, catch up, rant to me, or tell me about your pet. actually, please tell me about your pet.

Some quick publishing updates:

I'm 20k words out of 90k into draft 2. and i think this is going to be the last draft before i query (?????) i'm really very happy with the muscles and bones of the manuscript. now it's just some meticulous line editing i have to work through.

after this, i'm off to the query trenches. (im scared) if anybody has gone through this process before and has any tips, i'd love to hear them!

in my brief but colorful time on the Apps(tm) i have developed a strategy for myself which is basically. with women, i can tell based on a chat if we’d vibe and want to meet up, so apps are fine. with men? i cannot tell nor do i want to. men have to pass a much more extensive vibes based check which does not come across over forced communication and also i need to supersede my knee-jerk reaction to any strange man which is 🙄🙄🙄🙄 so those buds have to stay in real life.

Color (Palettes) in Never Let Me Go - Part 2

Continuing my post about color palettes in Never Let Me Go the series. Part 1 talked about the color palettes of the show in general. This part focuses on another thing that were also visible enough: Thanya’s outfit colors as well as Nueng’s and Palm’s aside from their black-white uniform. Again, all screenshots are not color-adjusted/edited.

1. Thanya’s red, yellow, and green outfits/dress/shirts over her usual dark muted colored outfits. It was noted that she used these bright colored outfits only when Nuengdiao was present -- Red, during the announcement that she will take over as the new CEO of Phiphop’s company. Besides Nueng, there were also many other people (public setting). Yellow, when she just came back from Phuket, and talked with Chanon and Palm, and then Nueng came and hugged her (semi-private setting). Green, when she entered Nueng’s room when he was watching a video of Thanya being attacked while giving a presscon (private setting). Red, when she showed a hard exterior as someone that needs to step up taking over the role as a business leader in place of her late husband. Yellow, when she showed a softer exterior in front of her son as well as her trusted employee and his son. Green, when she showed parts of her vulnerable side to Nueng as a mother who also needs to take care of a family business.

Not necessarily associated with traffic light, but, when I thought that red means stop, yellow means careful, and green means go, I think it somehow makes sense to use those colors to symbolize Thanya’s level of openness of her vulnerability to other people. She puts up wall to public and other people including Khit -- on another note, though, it seems that she didn’t mind the rather ‘close’ interaction between Khit and Nueng when she saw them hugged in her office. She trusts Chanon, and being nice to Palm, but to some extent both sides still maintain the formal boss-employee relationship. She spoils Nueng, that goes without questions, but there were some subtle shifts through episodes 1 to 3 on how she talked with Nueng. Although, I still have my doubt that she had fully trusted Nueng to share everything, in terms of her dual roles as both a mother to Nueng and a boss to Phiphop’s business.

2. Nueng’s plain shirts vs Palm’s Hawaiian/Aloha (printed floral) shirts. I think there should be other types of combination too, such as Nueng’s striped shirts vs Palm’s plain sleeveless shirts, but I will not list them in this post, yet. So, what was interesting about the combination between the plain vs the printed floral shirt is that the plain color of Nueng’s shirts were always in-line with the color combination of Palm’s printed shirts. That is, when they shared the screen together, Nueng’s shirt color was always a part of the color combination of the shirt Palm used. In short, their colors were almost always harmonious, matching to each other you may say, either in a shade mode (darker combination; there’s a mixture or presence of black) or a tint mode (lighter combination; there’s a mixture or presence of white). Somehow, I found the color pairing to be visually easy to my eyes. In a way, such color and pattern pairing may also suggest that both of them are visually balancing each other. It’s also interesting to note that, as the official trailer showed, in later episodes, we will see Nueng eventually wearing similarly styled printed shirts as well, especially during the beach scenes.

Episode 1 - first meeting: Palm’s shirt was in a gradient of light-dark color scheme with hints of black/dark gray, brown, dusty blue/green/gray, yellow, and a bit of white. Nueng’s shirt was in brown, rather similar or in a monochromatic term with that little hint of brown on Palm’s shirt. The color pairing between the two outfits was in complementary scheme.

Episode 2 - “pengyou” scene: Palm’s shirt was in a lighter color scheme including hints of red, darker or muted orange, lighter orange (more dominant), and a bit of green, with light cream as the fabric’s main color. Nueng’s shirt was in muted darker orange, similar to one of the colors on Palm’s shirt. The color pairing was in analogue scheme with some tints of orange monochromes.

Episode 3 - dance scene: Palm’s shirt was in a light-dark color scheme with the shades of green, a bit of black or very dark green, and yellow as the fabric’s main color. Nueng wore a white shirt, and a very dark green suits/outer which color was similar to one of the greens on Palm’s shirt (I double checked with the Behind-the-Scenes video to be sure, but maybe it was quite hard to decide if it’s actually a dark green or just a darker shade of any other color). The color pairing here was also in analogue scheme.

Episode 3 - shooting range: Palm’s shirt was in a darker color scheme dominated by a shade of turquoise, I think (?), as the fabric’s main color, with hints of lighter brown, yellow, darker green, white, and a bit of black. Unlike the previous three shirts, this one doesn’t include palm trees in its motif. Nueng wore a white shirt and a black vest, both colors also can be found on Palm’s shirt. This color pairing was in between almost complementary and triad (if only there’s a hint of purplish color on Palm’s shirt).

Notes: Analogue color scheme implies a similar or closer-in-relations color combination (colors are side-by-side on the color wheel), monochromatic scheme refers to a deeply harmonious and calming color combination (colors consists of one basic tone with shades and tints to it), and the complementary scheme suggests opposition or high contrast (colors are on opposite sides of the color wheel). I have yet to find any triadic color scheme, which represents a more vibrant and balanced color combination.

House doesn't retort. She looks at him suspiciously and he twists his expression as if to suggest he has no idea what she's suspicious about. "Hire a fellow," she repeats. "That Treiber kid -"

"Don't like him. He's abrasive." House all but bats his eyes, the picture of innocence.

Cuddy shakes her head. "Fine. Sulk in the hallway. I have to go."

He doesn't argue. She hurries towards the arriving elevator. He watches as she tries to enter before the doors close. A blond kid sticks out his arm to block them, flashes a thousand perfectly white teeth at her when she says thanks.

I am supposed to have a 4 hour class this afternoon, and it's a "new" teacher. As in : it's the 1st time that he is giving us a lecture this year, but he was already here previous year. Just for some reasons the class has 2 teachers, and it's finally the turn of this man.

That class is scheduled to start at 2pm, it's currently 2'30pm and he is NOT here. We have no mail nor anything telling us that the class is canceled-

We are afraid that he forgot about us since it's his 1st week (But come on man, it's the week RIGHT AFTER the spring break, it's easy to keep in mind). I don't know at which point I need to give up...
