Last weekend thunder and lightning painted Copenhagen grey, purple, red, dark. I enjoyed observing the many different cloudscapes and loved being witness to the power of nature. My kids counted the time from the flashing lightning to the cracking drumming sound from the thunder. The sky was raging, I wanted to capture that moment right before the lightning strikes, the prologue, the flirt, the notice... Presenting: Vultures II Acrylic & polymer on canvas 30x30x2cm This artwork is one of the smallest I have created so far; a vulture in a suit. Working with stillleben gave me an urge to mess things up and bring life into the scenario. Vultures are to me both beautiful and scary. Working with these birds made me aware of the strokes movement and feathers movement had a similarity. Tove’s window (private collection) acrylic and polymer on canvas 110x90x4cm 2019 From the series Das Narrenhaus, here it is Tove’s window. Tove Ditlevsen was a famous talented writer in Denmark who wrote about life, death and love. Like no other she could put grief and sorrow into words. She had manic periods and depressed periods, at felt most safe at the mental hospital. Here it is her window at her hospital room, the nurse Ms. Espeloev had decorated it for her, so she could write books in great surroundings. The magenta curtains and the lively flower pot visualize the mental state and the dream like atmosphere around Tove. Her books are still among my favorites. Presenting: Vultures VI acrylic and polymer on canvas 190x190x2cm 2019 As a child Hitchcock’s The Birds made quite an impression on me. I grew up in beautiful nature surroundings with different bird species, never knowing people could fear birds, only seeing them as free and adorable. Flora and fauna have so many similarities to human anatomy. Being in my studio these days, I turn off all music and get lost in layers, strokes and stories. And sometimes I almost forget if it is a plant or a body part I am working on with my brush between my fingers.
