Also, totally embarrassing myself here but here’s a bonus mini fic I wrote for this scene because the prompt was just too darn cute:

"Dear, could you come here for a second?"

Mablung startles from where he's fixing the ribbon around his carefully wrapped present. Making sure to keep the box behind his back, he turns to find that Beleg had come up to him instead, sporting that mischievous grin that Mablung knew all too well.

"What is it?" he says, unable to completely keep the nervousness out of his voice.

Beleg's smile grows, and he holds up a sprig of mistletoe above their heads. He tilts his head up, clearly expecting a kiss.

But having been together for so long, Mablung can see through his plan. Using a kiss as a distraction to get to his present. How sneaky!

He starts to stutter out an excuse, and Beleg's smile turns to a pout.

"You won't give your boyfriend a kiss?" he says, looking up at him with his best puppy eyes.

Mablung tries to resist, but seeing no other way out, he leans down to give Beleg a quick peck on the nose. Just as he’d expected, Beleg immediately uses their closeness to reach for the box behind his back, but Mablung manages to catch his wrist at the last second and dodge out of the way.

"No!" Beleg protests, dropping all pretenses and openly trying to grab the box now. Mablung holds it over their head, out of reach. He can't help but laugh a little at his boyfriend's antics.

"You are such a kid," he says fondly.

"I'm curious," Beleg corrects, finally giving up and leaning heavily against Mablung's chest with a sigh.

"It's not midnight yet," Mablung says. In truth he's doing nothing but stalling, hoping the nervousness will go away over time. So far it has not. He can only hope Beleg can't hear how loud his heart is pounding.

"Almost," Beleg quips. "It's practically midnight."

He reaches for the box again, and when Mablung tries to dodge this time, they end up tripping over themselves and tumbling onto the couch, laughing in each other’s arms.

Thankfully, the box had not been crushed in their fall or rolled somewhere under the couch. Mablung places it on a nearby shelf, just out of Beleg's reach.

"Are you alright?" he asks, lifting himself up on his elbows.

Beleg nods, still smiling. He tries for a pleading pout again though the effect is ruined by the twinkle in his eyes.

"You still haven't kissed me," he complains.

Mablung obliges, leaning down to kiss him properly this time. As always, they melt against one another, the festive buzz from the earlier celebration fading into something softer.

Mablung pulls away slightly when an idea comes to mind. "You can have all the kisses you want if you wait till midnight," he offers.

Beleg hums happily, wrapping both arms around his shoulders to pull him closer, "I think I can live with that," he relents, diving in to claim more kisses.

With the rings tucked safely out of reach, Mablung resigns himself to a few more minutes of blissful kissing, forgetting his anxiety for just a moment.
