yeah, i only ever read gil’s compliments as being purely impressed and appreciative, never attracted. but then when hikari copies him, suddenly it’s read as romantic attraction?! i will never understand these things. but again, i’m biased lmao

i loved their shared path, i found it super cute and i love the idea of this incredibly sweet dancing girl helping guide hikari through the losses his kingdom suffered. the memorial in ku was delightful to watch. this is why i’m of the opinion that forcing romance between them actively takes away from both of their characters, because it stops those individual traits from shining.

i don’t really ship anyone else in octo2, i love temehika because i adore the dynamic of ‘guy who has unwavering loyalty and trust in those around him’ with ‘guy who doubts everything and is constantly scrutinising their partner’s friends behind their back’. you’re the one who introduced me to agnea/throné, i hadn’t considered it before but i do love a good ‘Ray Of Sunshine meets Dark Shadowed Past and they go shopping together’ vibe, so i’ve decided i support that ship too now. thanks for that one!!

no worries! i wish there was someone more qualified to talk about the differences between the english and japanese versions because there are quite a few (some i'm ok with, others.... not so much) but some of them feel like a genuine detriment to play without knowing the original so i want to share them if i can!!

yeah it's...... a little iffy that people would read hikari's compliment as purely romantic because that would imply that gil is giving the same vibe and i read agnea's response as more like shock that someone as serious as hikari would say something like that to her...

i have a very mixed opinion about their crossed paths story unfortunately 😭 i really like the story itself, but i wish agnea had a more significant part in it... compared to the other stories that feel like they brought out the characteristics of each character more, i feel like agnea was mostly reduced to a bystander in hikari and yomi's story... i wish they got to touch on her grief over her mother or something at least o<-<

AHH temehika's dynamic really is so underrated, they have such strong themes of trust and doubt and i'm a bit sad their banters didn't touch on this more... we got a smidgen in hikari's ch.4 where temenos warns him about rai mei's possible loyalties but it's not enough...! not to mention the fact that they're connected to oboro and arcanette, the most major figures in the moonshade order... i don't really like the idea of octopath making certain protagonists more "important" than the others but i find it really hard to deny for these two lmao

agnene is also extremely underrated!! i think agnea's admiration of throne helps show her that she isn't who she thinks she is:

while in throne's stories, she slowly grows to lean on agnea's attempts to make her feel better... it's really sweet and i don't think either of them have this kind of connection with anyone else...!

it's also very cute how agnea invites throne to meet her father as well as to her hometown's raspberry festival... i think their paths post-canon also align very nicely because throne said she wanted to travel somewhere far away, while agnea wants to bring smiles to as many people as possible... it also makes for a very nice "celebrity and bodyguard" dynamic that mirrors dolcinaea and veronica's and it really suits these two imo!!

i also don't like teme/thro as a romantic relationship so i think their interactions as well as hika/agne's fit much better under the assumption of temehika and agnene... we see hikari's admiration of temenos' intelligence in his ch.5 banter where he compares temenos to kazan so i think both he and agnea have a sense of admiration for their older partners while also doing whatever they can to support them... (hikari with his blade, and agnea with her performances) meanwhile temenos and throne also feel undeserving of their partners because they view them as a light they're too afraid to reach out to... it's subtler, but i like temenos' banters with her where he tries to reassure her that she's a good person as well

phew this got REALLY long i'm sorry but yeah while i always tend to go against popular ships, i've been really frustrated at the extent of it in octopath 2... octopath is pretty unique in that all of the protagonists get more or less the same amount of (small) interactions throughout the game but that was changed in 2 with the addition of crossed paths and i'm not sure why hika/agne is the one that stuck because their story does not read to me as romantic at all lmao but i'm glad to find people who share those gripes as well!!

i think it says a lot how temehika and agnene's post-canon lives align together very nicely because hikari and agnea's goals respectively are much more defined while temenos and throne are more equipped to take a more supportive role... (crying) i just really like them

It's been awhile since I last visited ur blog, but DAMN—UR ART JUST KEEPS EVOLVING!!! I said this in a previous ask, but your colors holds both vibrancy yet natural flow that draws attention to the focal point but also gives love to the details (especially w/lighting and shadows (Caldera's fire glow effect still lives rent free in my head, but I also saw PL cards and THE SMOOTH SHINE OF LOTISE AND LUCERO'S HAIR THAT'S JUST ADDS DEPTH&CONTRAST TO THE BACKGROUND, THE SUBTLE GLOW OF THEIR EYE CLOSETS(probably saturation but it's making me feral) HOW THE SATURATION OF COLORS DON'T CLASH BUT WORK PERFECTLY TOGETHER AND STILL DRAW DISTINCT ATTENTION TO THE SCENE AND THE DETAILS—)). The way you draw characters, I feel like there is a lot more flexibility and freedom in dynamically angles and posing for them! I still feel a lot of anime nostalgia but also a uniqueness in how aesthetic shows up in design (toytoria dorm room has roblox royal high nostalgia for me hsksj). THAT COMIC YOU POSTED FOR TOYTORIA ANNIVERSARY THO, THE FLOW OF THE COMIC IS JUST INCREDIBLY WELL DONE!!! It really does feel like a small glimpse into a natural interaction between characters. For characters, I unfortunately am not up to date but from what I've so far, ur characters are expressive in this dynamic way that comes across so well when writing dialouge or from their perspective. I feel like your sense of direction w/the lore you want to establish is even more refined and I think you do a mind-blowing job in conveying it (show don't tell vibe). I still enjoy and look forward to seeing how chaotic and mentally ill/j you make ur characters. I'm extremely elated to see just how much you've grown despite not knowing the full picture.

hello!!! i don’t mind at all! :D and i am a new fan, lol!

OKAY SO, in 2020, my friend dave got really into it (he’s actually even cooler than dave strider, it’s wild), and he was like, “please read homestuck” and since i was *literally* stuck at home, i thought “this is the perfect time, this is my homestuck moment.”

that being said, all my knowledge came from dave (who was currently getting scarred with the epilogues), which means all i knew was that:

1. there’s trolls

2. there’s characters known as karkat and dave, and they are in love.

3. there’s characters that represent zodiac signs, and when i asked dave “who represents mine?” he replied with, “i’m so sorry” (i’m a scorpio LMAO)

4. obama’s there, and dated someone’s newly evil brother??

5. sharpie bath tub 🤨

so i started reading it (the poor way, aka on the official website, on my phone), and i was SO confused. like who is John, why have i never heard about john, and where is karkat?? but i kept reading, and i did not hate it, i was just very lost LMAOO, i think i got to the end of act 1.

but the other problem was, is that it was on my phone and in safari. which means i was never inclined to open it again. i just kept that tab opened, and if it was a book, it would have been dusty as hell. i ended up taking a different path while being quarantined in 2020, aka glee 😔 i fell down that glee rabbit hole and i wasn’t going to leave it.

BUT, in the glee fandom i met like the coolest people alive. and one of those incredibly awesome people is my friend cherie :D in 2022, cherie fell back down their own homestuck rabbit hole once again, and this time they were bringing me down with her, LOL.

i started reading homestuck again, so i could talk about it with cherie, and i *finally* got into it (dave and i recently called, and we were drawing on whiteboard, and he still makes jokes about how long it took me LMAOOO). but cherie actually held me accountable for reading it, i could no longer leave it lost in my tabs, because everyday cherie would send me an epic “have you read homestuck today” reminder >:) i think i finally finished on easter 2023. (or maybe it was a few days before, because i remember reading the candy epilogue on easter, but just know it was around that time!!)

so ty to my friends for giving me brainrot, i love them very much <3 i don’t regret it at all, because when i entered my glee era i stopped drawing for awhile, but being in the homestuck fandom as really revived that spark. i feel like i’m 14 again, and it’s so much fun :D

Sorry this is coming out of nowhere, but I read the chapter today and Keigo's mom's letter just makes me sad? Like "I'm proud of you" is fine but this could be the last time she sees her son and she can't even write "I love you"? =(

I wonder how much they even saw eachother as he grew up.

And oof I got to be disappointed by his dad all over again. It's not just the design either, guess I just let myself believe he'd be a badass theif and become an interesting character, even if he'd be a total asshole. But no, all those hope's came crashing down =/

Can't be mad at Hori though, it is his story and that's not what he wanted for Hawks or his dad it seems. I hope we never see him again but I have to wonder if we will, with the prison brakes.

Though I don't know what good would come from Hawks meeting him again, he was a paranoid abusive guy before getting caught and I can't imagine he changed for the better in prison.

sorry to answer this a bit late, it’s just that certain........ other asks distracted me lmao. i have a lot of asks from last week and even more from the past few months, but i promise i’ll get to as many as i can!!

yup the letter isn’t even bittersweet to me, it’s just pure pain. a last reminder of tomie’s continuous failures to be there for her kid... i interpret it as her feeling like she doesn’t have a right to say “i love you” because in a way it would be lying—she ended her connections with hawks when he was only a small child. it would be like a punch in the face to tell him “i love you” when she never made the effort to show it.

i’m curious if there was any contact as he grew up too! i’ll have to do a reread of the chapter but it’s presented in such a way that their relationship really did seem to end abruptly when hawks was taken in. that doesn’t necessarily mean there was zero contact, but if there was it probably wasn’t very meaningful or loving. letters maybe... stiffly written as if between two strangers, until eventually they stopped entirely and nothing much was lost when they did.

takami thief turning out to be an average nobody is in some ways hilarious and in others tragic for the fandom lmfao. but yeah, i don’t mind it much anymore. hawks coming from absolutely nothing—not even a great villain—is something that can also be interesting imo!

i wonder about how takami thief could possibly return.... i speculated that he could come after hawks as a revenge thing but that’s probably a little fanfiction-y lmao. hawks is definitely getting his spotlight now but he’s still a side character so the return of his father would have to be significant to the main story somehow imo (or maybe hori will spoil us with hawks plot that has nothing to do with everything else....... i can dream)

Just to clear up your question there before we get started - “libera me” is latin (”free me”) and it’s a quote from a song that I’ve had stuck in my head for like 3 months because I sang it in my choir xD It’s… rather religious (which I am not) but I really enjoyed singing it? Have a link, if you’re interested (it’s classical, so idk if it’s everyone’s thing lmao); skip to 1:17 if you just want the choir part without the solo beforehand, and to 2:48 if you want the specific part I’m referencing, without the buildup xD

It’s… very dramatic and I love that :D The actual lyrics are something along the lines of “free me, God, of eternal death, on the day of mighty dread” and then “I am made to shake and tremble, I fear that day of calamity and misery” or something, I don’t really know enough latin to confidently translate them :’D It’s all very apocalyptic and super epic to sing in a choir hdfjklahshsdf

15 something you learned this year

Well. I took on a project, as you may know, of writing one chapter or oneshot per week - and I kept it up until July, when I had a series of huge breakdowns and finally got help for my depression - I’ve since put that project on hold because I can’t handle the pressure yet (it started out fine though! I had fun with it for the first half of the year!) - what I learned through it is that writing, for me, is about discipline. I can always write, and if I want to, I should. I should only write when I want to, though, because that produces the best results. Am I making sense? Idk. I’m resolved to write more than ever, but to give less craps about the numbers - which I was rather obsessed with, regrettably. That made me miserable. So no more of that from now on.

We seem to be of similar opinions a lot of the time, which is great and encouraging, but sometimes you open my eyes to things and I’m really grateful for that :D

@greenstickynotes is the champion of keysmashing AND heartfelt emotional responses - your comments are always highlights, but even moreso I enjoy and savor your snapchat reactions because they are full of real, raw emotion that I cannot believe resulted from my writing. Honestly, you are a gift and I hope you never stop yelling.

@joanofarcticmonkeys is wonderful and supportive and takes time to comment even when she’s busy. Also she always sends prompts and she gets so emotional over my writing that she yells to her other friends about it (who are not even in the fandom?) - you are fantastic and I hope you know how much I love you.

I haven’t been reading many fics actually - if you want recs, you could check out my bookmarks on ao3? - but I HAVE been reading books, and I’d like to recommend some if that’s okay instead…?

Dear Life by Alice Munro is a collection of short stories that is moving and important and just. Stuck with me. She won the Nobel Prize for literature for this book, and I think with good reason. I thoroughly enjoyed it.

The Alchemist by Paolo Coelho is magic, plain and simple. A lovely tale (and it really is that, a tale) about finding yourself and your beliefs and I have re-read it at least 5 times. It’s stunning and beautiful and memorable.

Topics About Which I Know Nothing by Patrick Ness is a delightful collection of short stories - very diverse in the styles, but each one of them works remarkably well and I just loved reading it. So vibrant and colorful!

The Princess Saves Herself In This One by Amanda Lovelace is a collection of poems tying together to paint a stunning and startling picture of a woman who went through a hell of a lot to get to where she is - but she saved herself, as the title says. This book was a gift from @notinvidia and I read it in half a day - I devoured it, and I’m really, really glad I did. I didn’t think poetry was my thing at all, but here we are. Go read it.

Alternatively to that last one, read Milk And Honey and The Sun And Her Flowers by Rupi Kaur - stunning and immersive and expressive and just… important poems, the lot of them. They’re accompanied by art, too, and they’re all just so… full of life (and love and suffering and recovery) and it’s utterly fantastic and beautiful.

…okay, I think that’s enough raving for now. Maybe I should write book reviews? I’d enjoy that tbh. Would anyone be interested in reading them? hasdflasdh I might make some changes to this blog, or make a sideblog for my varying interests…? I’m just afraid I wouldn’t have enough energy to manage several tbh… and this blog is already a mess of everything, but I tag, so… it should be okay? xD Idk man. That’s a question for another day.
