why do you tag things "tw robert manion"? (genuine question) (not mad) (new to the fandom so i have no idea what happened with the robert manion situation)

Long story short: he's a piece of shit

Slightly longer version of the story:

He sexually harassed someone, was kicked out starkid (that's why he's not in nmt 2, npmd or Workin Boys), then started talking shit about starkid on insta lives while starkid was doing a backer kit campaign, and then said in another live that in beauty in the beast he thinks Belle should be black to add depth of racism with the town hating her and Gaston would be fetishizing her (and said in that same live that one of his dream roles is Gaston)

If you would like more information on everything that happened, like spefically when stuff happened and what exactly were some of things he's said I've explained the situation a few times and made many posts while the situation was happening so I would suggest going through the tag "robert manion" or "tw robert manion" on my blog to find those posts

I don’t think it’s healthy to try and drag new fans into the Robert drama anytime they mention they like one of his characters. Like no excuses obvs for what he did, but as a casual fan myself I didn’t know anything about what happened until I saw walls of rants and people fighting about it. Not everyone is trying to dig into every issue with what they’re enjoying, and it can really damage your mental health if every time you hop into a new show you’re bombarded with distressing content. It can also turn people away from StarKid as whole, which is just a shit thing to do to a group that is overall trying to create and have fun. If someone is asking about the situation themselves maybe then have a formal discussion about it, but like some people just want to watch a musical.

Hey I'm sorta new to Starkid. What tf did Robert do and why does everyone hate him? Everything I find online is so unclear. :/

i’m not surprised that a lot of the posts on this were unclear since people were very divided on this topic when it happened (i may have gotten into a few fights about it lol), so i don’t blame you for being confused, but here’s the jist of it:

people dislike him bc a few years ago (i wanna say 2021 ish) one of the members of starkid came forward to nick and matt and said that robert had said them unsolicited pictures. we were never told who, all that we know is that starkid posted on their instagram story saying that they had hired a hr person so that the situation could be investigated properly. that’s just the short hand of it since i can’t remember much, but i believe i made a more detailed post about this when it happened and it should be under the robert manion tag on my page if you wanna look

The irony of Robert Manion whining on Instagram and complaining about how sick of hearing about Killers of the Flower Moon he is when he’s problematic as fuck and has been for years is so weird like work on yourself first, stop complaining and acting like you’re perfect when you have a history not only of harassment but also of not listening to the voices of trans/NB people and other minorities. You want to talk about a white savior complex, maybe watch the fucking film and work on your own self-righteous bullshit first.

Would it have been better if it was made by an Indigenous director? Undoubtedly. But as Lily Gladstone (I think) put it, no one would pay Indigenous directors the kind of money they’ve paid Martin Scorsese. And that absolutely fucking sucks, but at the very least this film is bringing this part of history to light AND placing a lot of Indigenous actors in the spotlight.

Robert insisted again in his life stream last night that he chose to leave Starkid on his own because of something traumatic one of the Starkids did to him and because “Starkid has to many white, cis, straight, people”
