In theory, Kalyba should find it easy to hook up with someone. She’s a beautiful, immortal, powerful witch. Plenty of people would go for that! But she’s exclusively attracted to people who don’t want her back.
So important of Samantha Shannon to invent this sexy evil witch and then say “also, she’s a bit pathetic”. So important.

The fact that Canthe fell in love with Tuva screams, "soft femme-fatale[d] grey character with ice queen tendencies." It makes me insane.

Okay, Canthe (or should I say, Kalyba???) basically confirmed all my suspicions about Wulf and Tuva 😌

Inysh pagans praying to the Lady of the Woods to save them. But the Lady of the Woods is not paying attention to them. She’s trying to seduce a MILF. Unsuccessfully.

Conversation
Canthe: If a beautiful woman disagrees with me I will immediately change my views. I have no principles.
Tunuva: Well maybe you should have principles?
Canthe: You're right maybe I should.

its crazy to me that canthe is the only translator available for wulf and tuva. like. she was the one who took wulf away from tuva, who killed his birthfather and kidnapped him and took him to another country, into the land of the deceiver no less. and then she brings them back together, and now she's the only way they can communicate with one another. she's the one who tells tuva about the child of the woods, and she's the one who tells wulf who tuva is. she's the only person who speaks both of their languages and can teach them those languages. she's always controled their relationship since she took wulf from tuva as a baby

I have to admit, this one has not a lot on "The Priory of the Orange Tree" Though when it is comes to LGBT, this one was way better. And PS: I do believe Fýredel is more of the main character than Nameless One, dude is on the cover of both books. He has also been able awaken when the nameless one couldn't. Oh whatever. I like him though.
𝐓𝐡𝐞 𝐀𝐜𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧: The action really does portray this book as a prequel which also made me realise a lot of time had passed before book 1's timeline. In Book 1, it is Sabran the Ninth. In this book, it is the Fifth, Sixth and Seventh, Glorian's daughter. Like every fantasy book with dragons, there is bound to be fire and roasted bodies. And there was loads of action with those fire-breathing wyrms. I was saddened to love it all but those scenes are like candy when reading books about dragons.
𝗦𝗧𝗥𝗢𝗡𝗚𝗘𝗥 𝗦𝗧𝗢𝗥𝗬 𝗛𝗢𝗟𝗗: I do believe the South won this time. In Priory, it was the West. Mainly because this is where the 𝐬𝐚𝐩𝐩𝐡𝐢𝐜 story was. And I am all about the sapphic life, so yes.
𝗦𝗼𝘂𝘁𝗵: 𝗧𝘂𝗻𝘂𝘃𝗮: 50 year old ray of sunshine that was also a badass warrior who loved wholeheartedly. She was a deep character. Her wife, Esbar was also definitely something to behold. The way Tuva and Esbar loved each other and their children, it was awesome. Tuva's son, Wulf finally realising that Thrit loved him. Wulf was bisexual and I think Thrit was gay. Though Wulf and Thrit were in the north. Canthe, that bitch that almost ruined a love blessed by The Mother.
𝗪𝗲𝘀𝘁: 𝗚𝗹𝗼𝗿𝗶𝗮𝗻: The West did have a tight story because at some point there were 3 generations of Berethnet and that very intriguing. Though I do believe Glorian was overrated. Her relationship with her parents was interesting though. Her mom was a total ice queen and her father was such a sunshine overdose but with killer instincts. It was rather adorable how he (King Bardholt) devotedly loved Sabran VI the Ambitious. These even had nicknames for one another despite the toxic environment they were in. I have a feeling Glorian was 𝙖𝙨𝙚𝙭𝙪𝙖𝙡 but that scene when she spied on her parents that was just nasty. A little heartbreaking in the beginning but nasty in the end. Like girl, what the fuck?
𝗘𝗮𝘀𝘁: 𝗗𝘂𝗺𝗮𝗶: She was 𝐬𝐚𝐩𝐩𝐡𝐢𝐜. I definitely didn't like her woman but I liked that she was sapphic. Though, this side was slight the down-side of the book. Yes, it did have some intriguing parts with the non-fire breathing dragons and I think that dragon (Nayimathun) from Priory was also here as well (That old bastard). I feel like the name was familiar.. The east wasn't so popular with me even in Priory.
𝗥𝗲𝗮𝗱𝗲𝗿'𝘀 𝗻𝗼𝘁𝗲: I really enjoyed this book. A lot of scenes had me screaming and cursing but all in all, it was a joyful ride. I can't wait for more, if there will be.
