TTGBT #2: Bokuto Koutarou
Part 1: The Meeting
Part 2: The Backstory
Part 3: The Ending
Tumblr media
You’re sitting across the PR manager who’s babbling repeatedly about how important the clients you were meeting.
“Do you even understand me, Y/N? They’re a ‘Division 1’ team, they’re one of the strongest and most popular volleyball teams in Japan, maybe even the world. Can you even comprehend how big of a project this is for us? Oh screw it, what would you even know.” He says with an exasperated sigh but continues to blab again anyways. Ironically, you know more volleyball than he does.
Usually, you would pay more attention to whatever he’s saying right now, but your thoughts are focused on your rapid heartbeat and trying your hardest to not make your whole body shake. You can’t shake the thought of meeting your ex-boyfriend after more than five years. Maybe he doesn’t recognize you anymore and it would be okay. Maybe he became so focused on his career that he forgot whatever happened during highschool. But you hoped he recognized you, you hoped he didn’t forget, and that’s why you can’t stop this overwhelming feeling rushing through you.
You arrived at the stadium and you can’t help but admire how big it is. So he’s at this level now. You also can’t help but feel hesitant about going inside and seeing him play again. If it weren’t for the PR manager literally pushing and rushing you inside, you don’t know how long you would’ve stood there.  After entering the gym, you were immediately greeted by the loud screams of MSBY fans. You were also greeted by the big smile on the face of the man that caused the screams on a wide screen attached to the roof.
“Bokuto spikes through the blocks again with an extremely narrow cross shot! Of course, along with the amazing set from Miya Atsumu………”
The sounds start to drown out and the only thing left is deafening silence as you stare at the man on the screen. He was pointing at the crowd with a big smile on his face as the team gathered together to congratulate each other. You moved to the front in order to get a better look at the team you will manage. But you know deep inside that it was him that you wanted to see.
The team was in another set of back to back rallies with each other. Hinata, as always, was flying over the net which scored them another point. You remember meeting Hinata when Karasuno first participated in their joint training. He was adorable back then and was as chaotic as him. Now, he looks like a grown man and it even seems that he improved drastically.
That’s about as much as the time other people came and distracted  your mind. Your eyes always fixated on the eccentric and overexcited man that’s cheering for the crowd as much as they are for cheering him.
Bokuto was absorbed in the crowd as he always was. After all, who has time to care for other people when you’re trying your best to win your own game? The only time, for the first time since high school, that he was distracted was when he saw you amongst the crowd with a big binder in hand. His clear eyes knew that your eyes met and that you were looking at him too. Bokuto doesn’t know what to do or how to process this information. It was only when their team captain shouted at him to go to his position.
You saw him visibly freeze when your eyes locked. You decided that enough is enough and hurried outside. You just can’t take how overwhelming it is emotionally to meet with him again. You would think that after five years all those feelings would be gone, but with just one look everything came rushing again. All the anger, the longing, the sadness, the need, the hatred, you were not sure what to feel anymore. It’s not like you stayed single the entire time either so it wouldn’t make sense if you act rude towards him now. He was a precious friend to you so despite the heartbreak, you wanted to respect and care for him. Professionalism is needed if you will work for him after all.
You didn’t realize how much time had passed when the PR manager was in front of you.
“Hurry up, Y/N. It’s almost time for the meeting. We need to go to their office, it’s nearby so we might arrive before them. Make sure to prepare everything we need for the presentation. Also, prepare the…”
You decided to keep busy with your work. You don’t want the PRO* to flame you for blowing this whole project. When you heard the loud noise and ruckus the team was making as they were getting closer to the conference room, your heart was already tightening because of the sheer speed that it’s beating. It was getting harder and harder to breathe when you started hearing Hinata’s loud familiar voice through the glass. But your heart seemed to have completely stopped when Bokuto came into view. He was hanging his head low and looked like he was in a daze.
“Oh?! Y/N-san! I haven’t seen you in a long time.” You were surprised that Hinata was in front of you. You smiled at him and you see Bokuto in your peripheral staring at you. You only nodded and gave him a polite smile.
Their team members and coach rushed them to take a seat so the presentation could start immediately.
“All right, so here we have some suggestions on which we think would appeal to your fans. First we have examples of chibi* versions of yourselves as stuffed toys. Not only will it appeal to your fans, it will also take the interests of kids that want to play volleyball in the future. Next we have accessories inspired by you or pieces that are designed by yourselves…” You try your hardest not to let Bokuto, who is staring into your soul, affect you as you continue presenting in front of them.
Once the meeting has ended, of course the standard practice was to let the clients leave the room first. You sighed in relief when everyone left and your team was cleaning all the equipment used.
“All right, guys, since we finished pretty early today and the presentation went well, we thank you for that Y/N, you guys are allowed to go straight home after this.” The people in the room were cheering for the PR manager after his announcement. “Just so you’re prepared, we are gonna have a hell of a week after this.”
After everyone was dismissed, you planned to go straight home since everything that happened today was emotionally overwhelming. When you think your day can’t get any more stressful, you see a very familiar figure sitting in the lobby. Bokuto was wearing earphones and was watching something intently in his phone. You didn’t expect him to be here since usually there’s a celebratory dinner after a win.
Should you say hi or not? After pondering as fast as possible, you decided not to do it. You don’t know if you can handle it anymore. But, as you were nearing the exit of the building, a voice called out to you. You freeze.
“Wait, Y/N!”
You turned around and saw him jogging towards you. You can only force a smile when he finally stood in front of you.
“Hello, Bokuto.” You saw him visibly get upset when he heard you call him by his surname. He was still a friend but you had to draw a line somehow. Your relationship was not the same as five years ago.
“Uh, it’s been a long time, do you want to like, catch up? I know a good cafe nearby.” Bokuto scratched his neck, a thing he does when he really wants you to agree.
Just like that, you’re sitting at a cafe waiting for Bokuto who’s ordering for the both of you. You can’t seem to stop your shaking knee caused by being restless. Why did you ever agree to this again?
“Here’s your order.” Bokuto hands you a drink as he sits across you on the small table. It’s definitely a lot closer than you would feel comfortable with. Of course, you don’t show it, or at least you hope it doesn’t show.
“Uh, thanks. So, um, how have you been, Bokuto?” You said then immediately took a sip on your drink. Somehow you’re having a hard time pulling words out of your mouth.
“The passing years have been, let’s say, eventful.” Despite staring at you the entire time during the presentation, Bokuto seems to be having a hard time looking at you now that you’re face to face.
“Yup, I often see your team on the news.” You deliberately tried to avoid saying you saw him and that he’s the only person you can focus on the television. “You guys have been all over the world. Your team also went very far in the Olympics.”
“I guess, you can say that I’m living my dream.” You were very proud of him for that but you were careful not to say too much. “There’s just one more thing missing though.” With that, he stares intently into your eyes.
Definition of terms:
*PRO- Public Relations Officer. The head of a PR team.
*chibi-a Japanese slang for small or short. A chibi version of a person is often shown as a smaller and cuter drawing or product.

My studies have been keeping me busy so I didn't really have time to publish this. I'd like to mention @nachotrash for being the first person ever to like my post. Thank you so much and stay cool! I'd really appreciate it if you like and reblog. Please do not repost without proper credits 'cause I worked really hard on this :(. Thank you and enjoy! Summary: Y/N has been living peacefully (or at least tried to) after graduating college and having the opportunity to work their dream job. When they least expected it, a tragedy came, they were invited to their highschool reunion and there they reconciled with Tsukishima Kei, their highschool ex-boyfriend.
TTGBT: Tsukishima Kei
Part 1: The Meeting
Part 2: The Backstory
Part 3: The Ending
Tumblr media
[Flashback: 2nd Year High School, Year 20xx]
You've liked Tsukishima ever since your first year when you hung out with him and Yamaguchi. You supported them all throughout their journey to Nationals too. You comforted them when they lost and encouraged them to continue when they felt like giving up.
You slumped forward onto your desk feeling annoyed by all the squealing coming from the desk to your left. You lifted your head up a bit and looked at their direction, hoping to catch a glimpse of the blond that was the owner of the seat. But there was none. All that you could see were the backs of students that populated the area. Most of them aren't even in this class and others were from a different grade level than us, both younger and older. Is this the power of being part of a team that went to Nationals?
"Look, Y/N. They're stealing Tsukki from you." Yamaguchi snickered.
"Oh, shut up. When has he ever been mine?" You scoffed.
"Hey! You don't get to tell me to shut up. Tsukki is enough of a salt by himself. Just one, please, for the love of God."
I stuck out my tongue to him and he did the same to tease me.
"But seriously though, when are you planning on making your move? Tsukki might not care about them, but clearly even these girls are ahead of you because they're ACTUALLY doing something."
"It's clearly because of that, Yamaguchi. If he doesn't care about those girls, then what makes you think he would care about me?" Frustrated, you lied your head again and stared into space.
"You're literally closer to him than anyone of those hundred girls that are in his seat right now."
"Uh, Yamaguchi-kun…" He got distracted by the girl talking to him and handing him a box of pocky sticks.
These girls, seriously. Last year, they wouldn't even steal a glance at them. But, ever since they went to Nationals and got a reputation, they became so popular. Yamaguchi has been getting confessions too, but not as much as Tsukishima. I guess a lot of girls like the cold and passive type?
Tsukishima was not like that to you though. You managed to break his shell and actually became good friends. He was still closer to Yamaguchi but he lets you hang out with them and even teases you. You considered that as being good friends.
One day, as you were walking your way to class, you saw Tsukishima at the hallway getting another confession. You didn't bother to listen and you never planned to ever listen, but you heard, 'I already like someone.' You almost tripped at your own feet after hearing that. You thought he would just flat out reject them like he did the first few confessions. He didn't even care if they were in front of everyone, he would straight up say no. But, right now, he likes someone. You continued walking, not wanting to be caught.
"Hey, are you heading to class too?" You flinched when you heard his voice. Oh shit, did he catch me UNINTENTIONALLY eavesdropping? Alright, play it cool.
"Obviously, have you lost the brain cell that you brag about?" You raised a brow but still refused to look at him.
He flicked you lightly at the forehead and that made you glare at him.
"What is up with the attitude, Y/N." He chuckled as the wind blew through his slightly longer hair. You swore it was the most beautiful scene you've seen.
"...What? You talk like that all the time!" After being dazed by the view you finally managed to speak.
"That's my thing."
"Yeah, well maybe I want it!"
"You want what?"
"The thing! Ugh, you're annoying."
You continued bickering and stopped only when your teacher arrived. During lunch break Tsukishima didn't sit with you and said that he would wander around school instead.
"Yamaguchi. Did you know that Tsukishima-kun already likes someone?"
Yamaguchi choked on his food and you handed him water in concern.
"No, he… didn't say anything about that. Tsukki isn't one to talk about those things in the first place."
"Well, I just thought he would tell you since you're his best friend."
"Where did you even hear that? If it was just some rumor, don't ever believe it. Nothing good comes out of believing in rumors anyway." He said and continued eating.
"I heard him say it," Yamaguchi-Choking 2.0. "Some girl was confessing to him again and he replied with 'I already like someone.'"
"That's why I've been telling you to make your move! How can you be sure that it's not you? What if it's you? You guys just wasted time! Oh god, these idiots."
"I can hear you mumbling. There's no way it's me, come on. The people confessing to him are prettier, smarter, more popular and I'm sure some of them have great personalities too! What do I have?! I have freaking nothing except an excessive amount of chips at home." You pouted.
Yamaguchi shook his head and decided not to press further. Your second year of highschool ended with that. You never confessed and you never even planned to. You were content with your relationship with Tsukishima. You thought that if you were to confess and get rejected, you wouldn't be able to face them again.
Until the middle of your third year in high school.
Tsukishima was mumbling to himself while the three of you were walking home together. It was unusual and you were not sure if you should ask.
"To hell with it." You heard him say.
He stopped and faced you, making you and Yamaguchi stop as well. Confused, you decided to ask him.
"Tsukishima-kun, are you okay? You've been acting wei-"
"Y/N."
"Uh, yes?"
He took a deep breath before proceeding.
"I really like you. A lot."
You felt your heart beat faster but you still didn't want to assume.
"Thank you. You like me enough to be your friend."
You heard a slap behind you and it was Yamaguchi face palming himself.
"No, Y/N. I like you. I like like you."
"Oh." Dumbfounded, you continued to stare at him. "Oh, you like me like that?" The tiny hope in your heart was starting to cloud your mind.
"Yes." He stared at you with his cheeks and the tips of his ears turning red.
"I like you too. Like that. A lot actually." It was as if the weight you've been carrying for years has finally been removed. You blushed after finally being able to say it. You saw his eyes grow wide but your body started to shake and you held him for support.
"Wait, why are you shaking- are you crying? What did I do?" Tsukishima immediately searched for a towel in his pocket and wiped your tears with it.
"I-I'm sorry. I'm just so relieved to finally be able to say I like you. AND you like me back. You like me back haha. Oh god."
"Oh, is that it? If you ask me, I think this is your move on getting clingy with me-"
"Shut it, Bakashima." You laughed and composed yourself. You happily continued your walk home while holding hands and Yamaguchi was nowhere to be found.
The first year of your relationship went smoothly, you both went to college and he continued playing volleyball. The only time you guys fought was when he thought another guy kissed you, when in reality he was just helping by blowing the dirt that was caught in your eye. He didn't talk to you or even replied to your messages for almost three weeks. Despite explaining the situation through text, he still refused to see you, so you had no choice but to wait for him. You thought he needed time to organize his thoughts before speaking with you. You understood.
When he finally came to see you, you never spoke of the incident.
"Hey."
"Kei... I-I've missed you."
"I did too, baby." You hugged each other longingly. "Let's go eat somewhere." He smiled.
"But—" you paused. You wanted to talk about the incident and your fight, but do you really want to ruin this moment? You were restless and you really just wanted to be with him again. "Yeah, I'm starving," you said and smiled widely. Hoping that you will find the right moment to talk about it.
It was never brought up again.
In the second year of your relationship, you both decided to live in an apartment together. Both of you thought that this was a great idea, the rent is cheaper and you get to live together.
"Welcome home, babe." You said after hearing the apartment door open as you were cooking dinner.
"..."
"Hello, am I talking to anybody?" You gave him a playful pout and glare as soon as you caught him in your field of vision. The playful joke did not work and your cheery mood went down the drain when you realized the situation had escalated.
"Please just shut up and don't be annoying. I am so fucking tired." He sat at the sofa and rested his head.
You turned off the stove and faced his direction while leaning on the counter.
"Excuse me?"
"Ugh."
"Was it that hard to say 'I'm home' back?"
"Just please, shut your fucking mouth. I'm too tired to deal with your bullshit!" You flinched at his sudden shout. You felt a sharp pain in your chest and anger boiled within you. He gathered his things and before slamming the door of your shared room. You slept on the couch that night.
When you woke up you felt a blanket that was not there before, embracing you. It was probably Tsukishima. It's the little things like this that gives you hope that you can hold onto for dear life. Tsukishima did not want to talk about the fight, everytime that you would reach out and try to talk to him, he would either not answer or change the topic completely. There are times where he would just walk out on you. There were small talks about his day, bills, and every other important stuff. Complete silence follows.
You didn't know how but one day everything went back to normal. You were both affectionate again and the problem was never addressed. This happened to your other fights as well, until you've had enough.
"You just can't stop flirting, huh?" Tsukishima aggressively threw his gym bag on the couch.  You were watching their team's volleyball match today and he saw you talking to the guy who sat next to you.
"What the hell are you even saying? How is that even considered flirting when we were literally just talking about the match." You stood in front of him and crossed your arms on your chest. It was confusing to you why he is acting this way.
"I saw the way he looked at you. I recognized that and I'm sure you did too so don't fuck with me."  He glared at you and stood up to go to your shared room.
"How the fuck am I supposed to see that when I'm clearly focused on watching you play? If you saw him then you saw me too, right?"
"I don't care for your bullshit, Y/N. Stop talking to me. I need to shower." You obliged, thinking that it would calm you both down and you would have a rational talk later.
After showering and changing clothes, Tsukishima immediately laid in bed.
"Hey, wait."
"What, Y/N?" The annoyance was evident in his voice. "I'm tired."
"Aren't we gonna talk about this first? I don't you drawing conclusions on your own again."
"What is there to talk about? You clearly let him flirt with you and that means what we have right now is not enough for you." Your heart shattered. He's not listening to you, but you didn't want to leave this be.
"We're not done here, Kei. Sit up and let's talk about this. I'm not leaving this and I'm not letting you run away again." Your voice is shaky and you were struggling to manage the growing lump in your throat.
"There's nothing to talk about. Shut up and Let me sleep." He draped the blanket on himself and proceeded to close his eyes. Something inside you snapped and tears flooded your faces.
"This is the problem with you, Kei. You're always running away from the problems. How come I'm the only one trying to fix this?" He sat up and looked at you with a blank expression on his face.
"You're so fucking full of yourself."
"I'M full of myself? How can you even say that when I'm the one who's always begging for you to talk to me? I'm the one who's willing to drop my pride and address the problem? Have you even thought about me whenever we fight and you refuse to talk to me? You're always leaving me, Kei. I'm always alone dealing with all this pain, when we're supposed to be together in this relationship. This is too much for me." Your voice gradually became lower and lower. "I… I don't want my future to be like this. I think I'll go crazy and... alone."
You looked at Tsukishima and you know that he was getting a hint of what you were about to do. The panic in his golden brown eyes were evident. He shuffled the sheets and scooted to sit closer to you.
"H-hey, Y/N. Let's talk about this."
You laughed and it was painful.
"Now? Now you want to talk? But I don't want to talk anymore." The look on his face was the look of a man who's world is crumbling. It was an awful and painful sight but you made sure you wouldn't be a pushover anymore.
"Y/N, h-how about we sleep first? Let's calm down and think about this rationally tomorrow." His own tears were flooding his eyes too but he managed to fake a smile, as if to comfort me.
"Kei," you caress his cheek and he snuggled on it as if to treasure your touch. "these are my feelings, finally you listened. These are feelings that have been building up these past three years." You wiped the tears falling on his cheeks and continued talking. "Let's break up."
His face showed genuine fear, disbelief, and confusion. You knew that he was trying to convince himself that this wasn't happening, that you are not going to break up.
"No! No we're not breaking up, Y/N. We're not! I don't agree with this. Baby, you'll sleep beside me again tonight, right?" He gripped your wrists and does not plan on letting you go. You leaned in and kissed him for one last time. He was surprised and his grip loosened but he returned it, savouring it's last few seconds.
"This is not the future I want Kei. Now that I'm aware how toxic our relationship was, I don't think I can continue anymore. It's unhealthy for the both of us. This relationship is unhealthy for the both of us and a horrible future is the only thing that I can see. While we can still pick ourselves up, let's end this."

"What did you do with the apartment?" He asked as he continued to stare at the view in front of you two. Your hands still grabbing on to the railing like it's your lifeline.
"I sold it. A friend lives there now." You left the apartment the night you broke up. But the last message he sent you was him insisting that you keep it.
"I see. I guess you wouldn't want to stay there."
"Yeah." Tsukishima's heart shatters upon hearing your answer.
"We could get another one." He smiled awkwardly.
"Huh?"
You felt his hand grab yours and place it on his chest. Your mind went blank and all you could feel was the fast beating of his heart.
"Be mine again, Y/N. Please."
It is as if someone has poured a bucket of ice cold water over your head. You stood there, frozen and staring, just trying to process what he said.
"I—what? What is this?" Your mind was blank and you were only able to let out a few words.
"I want you to be mine again."
"I—no." The fear on his face was too much. "I—should—I'll get going, Tsukishima-kun."
"No. No, Y/N, please hear me out." He held both your hands this time, no plans on letting you go. The both of you stood there for a couple of seconds just staring at each other, trying to find the right words to say. You were at least slightly prepared to see him at this party, but you weren't prepared for this.
"Tsukishima-kun, I don't think this is a good idea. Please let go of me."
"Y/N, be mine again." His loud sobs filled the balcony. You look around and surprised that no one has attempted to go outside yet. "Please, Y/N. I'm still so fucking in love with you, I just can't let you go."
He looked desperate, completely different from the Tsukishima that was cool-headed and sarcastic before.
"I—I don't want to anymore. Please let go of me." Your eyes started to tear up and you couldn't figure out why your chest was tightening so much.
"I promise to… to give you everything you want. I'll make you happier this time around. I promise I won't lash out on you anymore. I—please just be with me." He looked at you with expectant eyes.
"It wasn't because you're mad, Tsukishima-kun. It was because," you hiccup unconsciously because somehow you were crying too. "because you kept running away. I don't think you still get me after all these years."
The tears continually streaming down his face, what a tragic sight. Your heart ached for the man you once loved.
"We still have a chance right?" His voice was shaky, almost a mumble, he was struggling and you could tell.
"We already had our chance and we blew it. You know we blew it. Let's just go on with our lives, please."
He went down on his knees and held my hand even tighter.
"No, no, I'm not ready to let go of you yet. I don't want to lose you. I want you back, come back to me, please. Sleep next to me again, I miss your warmth whenever you hug me. I miss your cooking. I miss how you play with my hair. I miss our bickering. Everything, I miss you so damn much. I think you're the only girl I'll be able to love. I-I know I was stupid, but I can change right? Y-you'll come back if I change right?"
"Please stand up, Kei. Don't kneel, please." You looked up to the sky partly avoiding the sight that's in front of you right now and partly trying to calm yourself. "Why are you doing this? You were the rational one, right? You were the one who's good at handling hard situations. Why have you become like this?" When you finally look down, you see him crying on his forearms still holding onto your hand.
"I just—I desperately want you back and… and I promise not to hurt you anymore."
"I promised myself I won't hurt like that anymore too. I'm finally starting to value myself and I refuse to be treated that way again." You took a deep breath and proceeded to let your heart out. "What you did really hurt me, Kei."
He lifted his tear-stained face, once again he was listening to you intently.
"I was alone at the most important and vulnerable times of our relationship. I know, you were the same. I knew and I understood that. You're going through the same pain as me. You were alone too. But I tried, Kei. I tried to fight for it, didn't I? I sought for you, I reached out. But I don't think you were willing to fight for us too. How could I fight for something as important as our relationship alone? How could I continue to fight when you weren't even willing to fight with me."
The both of you quietly stared at each other for god knows how long. You knew he understood. You removed your hands from his grip and wiped the tears on his face. You lowered yourself leveling with him and kissed him on the forehead.
"The next person you love," both of your tears fell in sync "love them with all your heart. Don't be afraid to be vulnerable when you're with them. I know you like to act cool thinking that people will like that more. But nothing makes a person fall harder in love when you are honest and open about your feelings towards them. Love again, Kei. And—and love them better."
Tsukishima looked up to you with all the hope gone in his eyes. He knew there was no getting back now. He knew he hurt you so much but you were still kind to him. He knew his heart would never fully heal. He knew he would regret losing you for the rest of his life. He knew you will never be his again. He knew but he never spoke. Then, you did.
"Let's not meet each other again."
You stood straight and headed towards the door immediately. You didn't think you could take it if anything more happened. The last thing you heard was his scream as he cried loudly again.
You left anyway.

You hurriedly walked past the wave of people exiting the bullet train. As soon as you were able to escape the crowded station, you almost ran. You were late for the highschool reunion that your friend invited you to. You didn't even have the time to admire the beautiful city lights at night.
You stood and pant in front of the glass door entrance of a bar. You observed yourself through the reflection on the door. You were a mess with your hair in different directions, your jacket that was almost falling out of your arms, and the t-shirt that you tucked in your pants earlier was now wrinkled and untucked. It was a good thing that you decided to wear casual clothes or else you would've looked worse. You quickly pulled out your handkerchief from one of your pockets and wiped the sweat dripping from your forehead. After you make yourself presentable again, you enter the building as if you weren't struggling earlier.
Confidence is the key! You thought to yourself to hype yourself up.
You approach the receptionist and she guides you to a large door. The sound was muffled but you were sure that this is the bar. You thank the receptionist before opening the door and proceeding inside.
Immediately you were greeted by the host of the party, none other than your seatmate and the president of the class. You were pretty close with her so you didn't feel any awkwardness with reuniting again.
"Aya-chan, how have you been?" You asked her.
"Oh I've been great! I'm married and expecting a baby too." She smiled and rubbed her belly. It was then that you noticed a little baby bump.
"That's amazing. But, will you be okay though? You're not supposed to drink right?" You squinted and looked at her with suspicion.
"No! I'm not drinking," she giggled. "My husband is here to stop me from getting too crazy." She then pointed at Hayato-kun, the man standing a few feet away from us, talking to some of his guy friends.
"Look at him all cleaned up. No one would ever know that he was such a gangster in highschool." She continued.
"Yeah, he definitely looks different now. It's great that you two ended up together. Who would've thought that a disciplinarian president and disobedient gangster would be a great match." You giggled. You didn't know how or when but the two of you ended up at the bar counter and she ordered a drink for you.
"Well, communication is important for people in a relationship. We always talked about our opinions and listened whenever either one of us had something to say. Even if our opinions differ from time to time, we try our hardest to understand and respect it. We don't let those small things get to us." She smiled throughout her whole speech which made you envy her.
"You look happy. I hope everything goes well for the two of you."
"Yeah, I'm very lucky. Anyways, I'd like to stay with you but I have to greet the other guests as well. You can get everything you want! I rented the place so everything's on me! Enjoy, Y/N!" She waved her hand and walked through the crowd that was standing in the middle and dancing.
Communication, huh? Must be nice. Your mind wondered.
Maybe because you were distracted that you didn't notice, but now that you're alone, you can feel someone staring at you. You didn't think of it much at first and ignored it, continuing to talk with past classmates and friends. Until it got uncomfortable so you excused yourself and headed towards the balcony to get some fresh air.
You let your mind wander off while you were drinking beer. Thinking back, highschool was a lot of fun for you. All the clubs, the festivals, the random activities and competition your school would throw at you, the volleyball games you used to attend; those were your fondest memories. Although you are not close friends with everybody, there was still a group of people that were beside you through tough times. Completely opposite from college when you felt that your stress level was tripled and everything was a competition.
"Hey."
You flinched by the sudden sound heard after a long silence. Right after, you felt your body turn cold as you recognize the owner of the voice. Of all the people here tonight, you were most wary of meeting him. This is the last thing you wanted, the two of you alone.
"Hey, Tsukishima-kun." You turned to your side to find him leaning against the railing of the balcony.
"So distant, Y/N. You used to call me Kei." He meets your eyes and chuckles. You hear his voice echo into the night mixed with the sound of nature as the wind blows through his hair.
Still a lovely sight. You hear a voice in your head say.
"Yeah, I did. Sorry, Kei."
An awkward silence falls between the two of you. Not wanting to be rude, you stayed and stared at the view you two were sharing. You felt your body shiver, but you knew it wasn't because of the cold night breeze. Your knuckles turned pale as you held onto the railing with your knees shaking so that you wouldn't fall and embarrass yourself. Your little pride wouldn't let you do that, especially because you two have just met again.
You don't know how long you two have been quietly admiring the view in front of you. You just stayed there not wanting to strike up a conversation and just silently wishing that he would get bored and leave. But, he didn't.
"How have you been? You know, after college." After the long silence he managed to speak those few words.
"I've been well, I was able to find a job right after I graduated. I got really lucky since a few of my friends worked the same field and we helped each other out."
"That's great. You've been studying and working hard ever since the beginning, you deserve everything you have now, Y/N." He looked at me and smiled.
"Thank you. It's true that I've worked hard and I too, think that I deserve this. But it'd be bad not to give credit to those that helped me and supported me through the whole process. I'm so lucky that I had friends that I trust and went through the same thing I did. I got lucky with my boss too! She made sure that everyone worked their asses off but she was kind enough to check on the condition of every single one of us. She's amazing and everyone respected her- ah! I'm sorry, I rambled too much."
You mentally cursed at yourself for getting too comfortable with him. Talking to him just felt too familiar that you easily let your guard down.
"It's fine, I like listening to your stories."
You nodded slightly. He did. He was always great at listening. I wish he let me do the same for him.
