I think that despite the amount we meme the unforgettable opening scene of yttd, what with the iconic ‘do you know what a majority vote is?’ that we never really talk about the true purpose of it.

We see that scene before we know ANYTHING about the other characters, even sara and joe. And right at the end of course we hear the gunshot and see shin’s face after the talk with shadsou. We don’t know the context of it yet, but as the player we IMMEDIATELY know that this man cannot be trusted. Or even that it was us that he shot in some type of vision. And we know the stakes are already high because someone already died seconds ago. We don’t know then that it’s actually from his perspective and not ours.

So when we as the viewer see him all sweet and friendly the first assumption is ‘this is a facade, and soon enough he’ll reveal his true colours as the antagonist. If I’m not careful, he might shoot me like he shot me at the start.’ Sara doesn’t know this, but we as the player do. So we’re satisfied when we’re proven right even if it irks us. And even if we know that what we saw at the start was shin’s first trial, the cgs at the start of the chapters, like gin strapped to the wheel at the beginning of 2-1, keeps us guessing of whether that might actually happen or not.

What we don’t really talk about is that the opening scene also works in reverse. And it’s EXACTLY the way shin views sara, down to a T. He sees simulations of her killing him, and before he’s even met her for the first time he’s thinking that this girl cannot be trusted. And when he meets her and she’s friendly his first assumption is ‘this is a facade, and soon enough she’ll reveal she’ll true colours as the villain. If I’m not careful she might stab me like she stabbed me in the simulations.’ Even the nightmare we see from shin at the start of 2-2 parallels that questioning of ‘Is that stabbing going to happen?’ And from the cgs we got from Nankidai, it just might.

And even when we already know shin sees sara as the villain in the logic route, as bad as even midori, I don’t think he’s going to be as satisfied.

me and my friends have this crack theory that is so dear to my heart it became an inside joke in the group.

The crack theory is that "shin is a robot" or like moreso a doll in this universe. You might say where did this come from, well one day on a call with a friend we discussed shin death, and then i went, "wait, how the fuck did shin run all that way toward the room of rumbles", i mean we are talking about shin, not qtaro, shin. Shin was probably shot in the arms and leg, and a bullet must've have come close to his head to explain the bleeding. How did shin, the weaket character in the game was SHOT in the limbs and was able to run FASTER THAN SARA towards the room of rumble. Shady right well then he's a robot!

Also i have other proofs, shin in his vision sees himself dead, just like he actually has died just before the death game, in none of the minigame do we see shin bleeding.

also about the fact that shin bleed in his death, reminder that if dolls can sweat, have tears , and other bodily liquid i'm pretty sure they can bleed if you work hard enough. or another option, that wasn't actually blood, they just threw tomato juice on shin.

One thing I find peculiar is the fact that when Ranmaru admits he killed Yabusame for Sara's escape (and his of course), nobody blames her. Not even Shin, who hated Sara, gave her sacrifice card, traumatised her with Joe AI and repeatedly mentioned how she and Midori are the same for him. But when she really was involved in Ranmaru's schemes, he was silent! After Maple fight he was among the first people to leave the room, but the only thing he said was that Yabusame was already gone and Sara shouldn't be selfish. Or before, when the truth was revealed, Shin wondered why Ranmaru did what he did if a banquet was a thing. Not a word about evil manipulative Sara who used naїve Ranmaru for her survival.

Either he gave up on convincing the group that Sara is a horrible being or he felt some degree of guilt for Joe AI incident to finally see Sara as fellow victim (I really want to believe it's the latter)

Kanna eyes are not dark green that's a false narrative created by the fandom, her eyes are teal!

As you know shin eyes and hair are teal well kanna eyes are teal too!

Actually kanna eyes are even more teal than shin eyes, his are much more turquoise. If you want to compare here is shin eyes an kanna eyes in the color wheel.

This game truly makes me trust everyone. This overly suspicious teacher is actualy a very sweet and caring person, sacrificing himself for the sake of his student. Mishima just looks intimidating and laughs like a villain, but he is a great phycologist and person overall.

A stalker can't be good, right? Look, Kai is in the know, he is with kindnappers! But "stalker" is in fact protecting our protagonist from the shadows. And he pays for it dearly. And even bleeding out Kai tries to support Sara. Don't forget he didn't kill at all, being assasin.

Okay, what about a literal murderer? Alice looks like a thug with his prisoner outfit (the first few secons before interogation). Turns out our "killer" is the kindest bro you could find, he tried to protect his sister from some creep and didn't even kill said creep (it would be better if he did).

Who is next, maybe our antagonist? This annoying Sou definitelly hides something, plus all his tricks with cards, his maliciousness and so on. Well, 0% is a really compelling reason to be antagonistic toward Sara. This guy has hallucinations of his own shadow, Shin is more afraid than anybody else. Plus, he tries to save his sister figure (whom he knows for like 3 days) at expense of his life. Misguided? Yeah. But with all the circumstances is he really the worst person? Personally, I don't think so.

And if we are talking about this big guy that could leave us behind, that could throw children under the bus, Q-Taro willingly got in coffin so that group could win in a banquet. Knowing about incineration function. Yes, he would die anyway, but burning IS painful.

At last, Keiji, the personification of mystery and suspicioness. A man who doomed his coworker to her death. On the other hand, just look at his trauma. Our friendly not-realy-policeman doesn't know what is sleep. And he tries to support Sara when she needs it the most. And he was ready to die due to breaking the rules in the banquet. Keiji is not the best version of himself, but he makes attempts to be the one he killed.

I feel like majority of the characters are good people, the exceptions being only floormasters. And even they have something going for them.
