This was a overlay in Anaheim from I believe 82’ until the end of the People movers run (when it turned into the disastrous Rocket rods- funnnily enough there was a Tron idea of racing cycles around tommorowland that wouldn’t went on this track. It was one of their initial ideas and potentially how we have lightcycle run today) . Aside from needing a serious oil job from all the squeaking, there is a charm to the OG people over, I’m also jealous it goes through star tours!

Now the Tron portion occurs midway during one of the tunnel portions of the ride. Automatically you can tell what budget their on, the voice isn’t very robotic (compare it today to the train at Disney world where a siren comes on in the tunnel before approaching Tron).

You get digitized in the same exact shot from the film, down to the dial up noise creating pretty stellar projections throughout the tunnel, the same beautiful shots of patterns and circuits. It goes into a lightcycle sequence racing and dodging around you— honestly it’s pretty great visually and I absolutely adore how perfect they have the sound?

“You have escaped Tron’s game grid for now Users,” I’m sobbing. Was he trying to run us down??? Hello?? This is especially funny because going into the tunnel it mentions master control and HE is the one mad/digitizing the guests. It’s the computer world of Tron but not his games.

It’s not as cheesy as I thought it was going to be, in fact it’s a great little tribute/advertisement for the movie itself “wasn’t that cool? Go watch it!” Alongside how back in the day the parks had actual arcades within them too. All I’m saying is we still have a people mover at Disney world and a already existing Tron ride… it’d only be fitting… 80s projections and all.

I like how much influence this held on what ultimately became lightcycle run, now of course it’s set In the sequel but the idea dates back to the original. Both the digitization sequence and lightcycle race are pivotal to both films so it only makes sense they’d want a attraction on it.

New Lightcycle Run Coaster Enters Tron World

Anon, you have my heart, I've been wanting an excuse to do this, but it was too long for my headcanon lists.

So when they first get there, it's chaos. Everyone wants to do different things, but it's also not a good idea to let these men run free.

Scout, Soldier, and (suprisingly) Medic are all ready down to hop on some rides.

Pyro, Engie, Heavy, and Sniper want to try their hands at some games.

Demo is just enjoying the fact that everyone is having fun. He's also popping a couple of motion sickness pills prepping himself incase he wants to hop on a couple rides.

Spy whines the entire time. This man is complaining, it's hot, it's expensive, it's loud. I think this man is incapable of having fun (kidding). Stick him on a bench in the shade where he can see how sick Scout and Soilder get after trying to show how cool they are by going on the biggest rides, and he'll eventually be happy.

Basically, what rides can they handle and what rides destroy them 😭

Scout makes a show of going on the biggest ride. He's not scared of heights! Put this man on the Top Gun (look it up, it's insane I swear. I went on it once and never recovered. It's kind of like a salt and pepper shaker but with less protection, like no cage, just a over head like plastic vest thing. Plus, it's like 120 feet in the air). And point and laugh as he tries not to throw up afterward. Or comfort him. He'll need it. But put him on a ferris wheel or the swings, and he'll genuinely enjoy himself.

Soldier is also going to talk a big game, but for the most part, this man can back it up. Put him on any Rollercoaster you'd like, and he'll handle it well. I want to throw him on a tall ride? He's fine. Do you want a really good reaction? Send him off to the Grava-tron.

Medic is the only one who can legitimately ride any ride without getting sick or being absolutely terrified. It's a little scary how good this man can handle rollercoasters. Just straight faced after words "Oh is it over?" Type of guy. What he won't tell you is he is actually terrified of heights, like man is crying on the inside. He'd rather die and admit that.

Pyro is off having fun on the kiddie rides. They may be a grown adult, but let's he honest. If you were getting paid less than minimum wage and some person came up to wearing a gas mask and started giving you the most horrific staredown of your life, would you really tell them no? Let them have fun! Put them on any major rides, and it doesn't really kill them, but they aren't having a good time anymore.

Engie is content going on the kid rides with Pyro. Sure, is it a bit weird that two grown adults are waiting in line with literal five year olds? Yes. Do they care? No. I actually don't think any rides would kill him or actually scare him. This man is the only merc who can handle any ride.

Heavy. This man does not like rides. Like at all. He was perfectly content on staying at the games, but Scout literally begged for everyone to go on some rides. I think he'd be fine on the tilt-a-whirl or the elephant ride. He wouldn't like any big rides at all.

Sniper is a lot like Medic. He's pretending it's fine, but he's literally turning green. He can handle heights just fine. It's the spinning over and over again that gets him. He's fine going on some coasters, especially gravity driven ones, but hates the idea of going on the swings with Scout. (He did it anyway)

Demo literally can't ride any of the rides without throwing up. He's already half drunk, and that motion sickness pill he popped can only do so much. Take him on the ferris wheel, and he'll manage. Suggest he go in a mirror maze, and he'll never forgive you (kidding).

Spy. Oh my god, this man. Just like Scout (are we surprised?). "Oh, this is so childish and stupid. No, I'm not scared! I just have better things to do with my time." Literally turned white after most rides. He'd be fine on a big coaster, though like, he's totally fine with going upside down and shit, he's just a baby when it's combined with heights.

Okay, time for games!

Scout honestly thinks the games are boring. He's a thrill seeker after all (even if he can't handle the thills we speak of). But introduce this man to the wack-a-mole, and He's enamored. Batter Up Baseball is also a favorite. He won an inflatable baseball bat!

Soldier likes playing any games with a fake gun, even if he's not the best at it. He'd also play football throw (basically, you throw a football through a swinging tire). He wins a plush football.

Medic is staying at that fill a balloon by spraying water in its mouth thing. He loves how endearingly horrific it is! He wins a small stuffed bird. (Archimedes got jealous the second he brought it on to the base).

Pyro loves the Duck Pond! (Pick a rubber duck from a pond and win a prize). They also really like frog catapult. I think I'd be mean to suggest they didn't win a unicorn rubber duck.

Heavy is strangely good at bean bag toss games or games that require a general skill at aiming. He can knock down those blocks that you'd swear were glued to their post. He wins a stuffed axolotol.

Engie is playing the same games as Pyro, but also gets a chance to sneak off and play some basketball games, which he's shockingly good at. He also looks at every game to find a game with a stuffed unicorn for Pyro. (I literally picture that one scene in Dispicable Me if Pyro tries to win the prize and loses).

Sniper. Do I even need to tell yow how well this sweaps the darts and cross bow game? Probably not. Will I? Yes. He genuinely doesn't even need to look half the time. He knows exactly how to hold the rigged crossbow for a perfect hit. The attendant is horrified. He goes to the dart game and teaches a kid how to hit the balloons. He gives the kids around the park his winnings.

Demo. For someone with almost no depth perception, this man is scarily good at the ring toss game. Like, this game is rigged to hell and back, yet he's sweeping every prize from them. He lets the stall keep everything, thankfully hes in it more for the fun. He does take some smaller prizes to give to kids and wins a giant plush cat for himself.

Spy doesn't see the need to spend more money at this place, so he's mainly wandering around to kill time. Until he sees Scout trying to win the horse race game. He sucks at it. Like, really bad, it's almost embarrassing. He's trying to win a big prize. It's a stuffed dog, and it's really cute, but he's having no luck, so he gives up and leaves. Spy walks up and absolutely kills, like he beats the game, no problem. He finds Scout a few minutes later and just hands it to him without a word. (This totally wasn't written because I want some wholesome SpyDad content).

So, finally, the days are almost over, but before they leave, they pick up some food!

Scout is getting pizza and the most horrendous deep-fried food you can think of. He has definitely eaten a deep-fried twinkle before.

Soldier is getting corn dogs and funnel cake. He's okay with the classics sometimes!

Medic is appalled by most things here. He's panicking, thinking his team is going to go into a diabetic coma. But he does end up eating. He figures street corn, and a pretzel is the best option here. But don't worry, this man is letting himself get some unhealthy food. He gets a churro and a candy apple.

Pyro is off finding anything and everything sweet. They grabbed cotton candy, caramel apples, and a cherry snow cone before anyone could stop them. Someone does convince them to eat some nachos or fries so they don't get as sick from all that sugar.

Heavy is off getting cheese curds and an elephant ear. He also gets a snow cone. His is lime, though. He also finds a stand selling subs and is thrilled.

Engie is getting chicken strips and both kettle corn and caramel corn. He is careful to hide the popcorn from Pyro, who looks ready to devour anything that has sugar at this point.

Sniper is not so much horrified as he is disgusted by the food selection. Like don't get me wrong, this man is gross himself but holy fuck. He gets why Americans have a reputation of being obese. He ends up getting a hotdog, and he also decides to see what the hype is about and tries a deep-fried pickle. He now knows why Americans love fried food so much.

Demo doesn't actually think the food is gross. We gotta remember this man probably at Haggis growing up. (Also, I didn't know this, but some amusement parks have turkey legs. So he's totally fine getting a turkey leg, some fries.

Spy. Let's just assume that all the non Americans are horrified and / or disgusted (except Heavy and Demo). But by far, this man is the most horrified. He definitely almost had a stroke watching Scout try and eat all the deep-fried fair food he could find. He ends up settling for a kebab and popcorn. But he may or may not have snuck a deep fried oreo, just to see why Scout liked them so much.

Honestly, if Rinzler still is Tron in lightcycle run it just poses so many questions for me. Why would Sam rebuild the grid, the whole world from the ground up, and then keep one of his dad’s best friends as the mindless attack dog that Clu was using Tron as? Were the remnants of Tron’s code so broken down by Clu that Rinzler was the only version of him he could bring back at all? Was he just craving the chance to finally go head to head against Rinzler on a lightcycle just to see if he could win? Or did he just conveniently forget to reprogram Tron into the grid? I don’t see how Sam, grieving his father’s death and rebuilding the grid in his memory, would have forgotten to fix Tron in the process, but I also don’t see why he would have intentionally kept Rinzler. The whole thing is incredibly confusing to me. And yeah, it’s a dorky little rollercoaster, but they intentionally included Rinzler instead of Tron and I want to know why.

a beautiful place you visited that made you very happy yes, i know we all hate disney, but the day i visited disney shanghai was one of, if not the happiest days of my life, and i know this to be true because it was the ONE DAY when my twin sis & i didn't fight at all, lol. back then, there was only one Tron rollercoaster in the whole world, and it happened to be in shanghai (i think you can find this in one of the disney parks in the usa now).

2. a book or written piece of media that made you go "oh yesssss" the last book i read was TBOSAS, and i loved it, so I'm gonna go with that one.

3. your spotify apple music top song of the year i don't pay for spotify, so i don't get warped or anything, but my top song on apple music is tango by ryuichi sakamoto.

4. Your favorite line/paragraph that you've written or an artwork that you're proud of i described wednesday as "persistent and pain-resistant" in the chapter 1 of i put a spell on you (aka the wyler x practical magic au), and i'm happy with that.

5. your favorite painting/art piece well, let's just say that there's a reason i mentioned michelangelo's david in oh god, i think i'm falling (aka the fallen angel tyler galpin au), hehe.

Disney please theme the tunnel

I’m a big theme park nerd, two of my favorite attractions are the liberty square river boats and the railroad. Not ones people think about when they say “Disney world” but they’re integral parts and just so… fun and charming! They’ve been updated and reopened at last and I can’t recommend it enough, they have full trip narration which I could sit all day and listen to these passionate characters who love what they do (Dark ride and transportation supremacy!) anyways that’s not the point…

On my trip in June we finally got on the train which was closed even before Covid for all FIVE YEARS of the Tron construction. The narration has been updated, not just because the huge gap in time and all the updates around the park but to give the narrator character some more… well character (he’s very similar to the riverboat narrator but they’re not intended to be the same person, I don’t think the railroad is also Sam Clemens. As of now the character is unnamed).

This update adds tron and a new interjection of female programs noticing our presence… the tunnel itself going under what, I believe is the pathway up to tron, is sort of sad:

It’s a black painted tunnel with some windows at the end to show you??? Under tron? That’s not the unloading area it’s straight up backstage pathways. Me and my dad were talking about this on the ride that it’s a VERY simple fix to make the tunnel more interesting, all you need to do is get a big stencil and paint a big white ENCOM logo down the tunnel (the grid isn’t ENCOM but it’s what people know and the identity program figures give you a ENCOM card, the lore of the attraction is a bit confusing)

What I do like is how the narrator gets cut off at the beginning of the tunnel and then keeps talking when you come out as if he just explained literal rocket science to you. That is hilarious. I didn’t notice that the first time.

Anyways, if you never road the train or riverboat highly recommend (there’s also 2023 ride through videos up. Oooo you wanna watch so bad ooooo propaganda)

Hey, a fellow Tron fan in 2023?!

I'm glad my favorite childhood franchise is getting some love. Tron Legacy actually got me into programming and computer science as a kid, and all these years late, I'm still programming! Granted, there are a lot less light cycles and disc battles in C++ and Python than I had hoped for...

I know a lot of Tron fans are not extremely happy about the current state of a third movie, but I wanted to ask you: What would a perfect Tron sequel be like in your mind?

What characters from any part of the franchise should make a return, what kinds of new ones would you want introduced, and who would be a good hero/villain?

Assuming the grid ran on early 90s hardware and that a modern PC is thousands of times faster, do you think modern tech like the Internet should be addressed, or should the story take place in a closed-off system?

Would you want the visuals to be like Tron 1, Tron Legacy, a mix of the two, or something entirely unique?

What kinds of new light vehicles or weapons could they introduce?

And finally, should Bit make a return?

I'm sorry that my question has like 20 sub-questions, but anyway, I just wanted to say thanks for all the art and stuff you share. It's nice to look back at Tron and how it changed my life, so thanks!

Hell yes, and hello! I’m glad to have the chance to help give it some love, and to meet all the awesome, dedicated people in this fandom that make it all the more fun to enjoy. I love hearing stories like your’s; it’s such a nice reminder of the impact fandom and media can have on someone.

Thank you for your nice words about my art and stuff. The Tron fandom has been so welcoming and so inspirational, I’ve been having a blast creating stuff for it! Also, I love getting asked questions. Especially lots of questions. Thanks so much for this! I’ll go one by one under a read more:

What would a perfect Tron sequel be like in your mind?

One that incorporates Tron, for one. You can’t have a Tron movie with Tron. They can do whatever else they want, but a sequel can’t be perfect unless Tron’s there. Played by Bruce Boxleitner. He’s like the James Earl Jones of this franchise: he plays the character and no one else.

That being said… would a continuation of Uprising be too much of a cop out? Don’t get me wrong, I’d like a legit expansion like Identity, but I’d also like for the stories we already have to come to their full conclusion. Sure, Uprising is a prequel, but it has just enough unanswered questions that it feels like an open wound.

What characters from any part of the franchise should make a return, what kinds of new ones would you want introduced, and who would be a good hero/villain?

Kinda sorta already answered this one in the previous question, but I can keep the thoughts going! I’ll repeat Tron again because leaving him out would probably be the one thing that could possibly make me dislike Ares enough not to go see it. I’d also love for it to get the Star Wars treatment and bring some of the animated characters to the big screen. Beck? Dyson? Cyrus? Mara? How about just everyone from Uprising? I’d also love to see Yori again, or at least find out definitively what happened to her. OH AND ALAN. And I’d love to see what Sam and Quorra are up to (and if the movie will go for the low-hanging fruit and make a rollercoaster joke). Also, as far as returners go, I’d love to see Flynn again. I know he “died,” but it just won’t feel the same without him. Maybe he’s literally become part of the Grid and comes back as a big MCP-looking face.

That being said, one of the points that got me particularly excited for Ares was the inclusion of a female human main character. The description lists her as:

Eve- Female lead, Asian, 30-40. Human lead of the story. A tech genius, focused and full of Open heart, analytical and observant. One of the worlds best programmers. Reclusive, anti social, the way she connects with Ares isn’t romantic but sympathetic connection. Someone who has an attractiveness

I think the Tron movies are due for a non-Flynn to take the lead, and I think done right Eve could be a fantastic successor. I appreciate that she’s not a teenager or in her 20s, that she’s still described as attractive, and that she’s being set up to not be in a romance with Ares. ALSO UM… CHECK OUT THIS DESCRIPTION FOR ANOTHER CHARACTER:

Athena: Female lead, 30-50. Imposing, cold and officious, driven solely by an innate urge. Open to fulfll any directive she’s given without question, Athena is a member of an elite special forces unit and second in command. When Athena senses her superior has strayed from their assignment, she reports him without hesitation and quickly assumes his leadership role, intent on destroying him and fulfiling the directive at all costs. With incredible power and the inability to fear or doubt, Athena is a nearly unstoppable force, and a tragic figure. This role requires significant physicality, fight skills area plus…

Already shipping Eve and Athena, ngl. You can’t hand me a reclusive genius and a battle-hardened bitch and expect to not immediately want to see them bring out the best in each other. Calling it now, they’re gonna be the power couple of the Tron Ares fandom.

Last but not least, who would make a good hero/villain? Eve sounds like my perfect protagonist, so let her be the hero. As for the villain, it seems like it’s gonna be Dillinger Jr. which means it’ll probably be some form of the MCP, which… mmmmmm. Again, if they do it well I’ll be ecstatic, but it could easily turn into a “Somehow, Palpatine has returned” situation so I’ll tentatively say, sure, Dillinger and the MCP can be good villains, but on god make it interesting and worth it.

I think that instead of addressing the Internet, they should address the possibility of separate Grids being able to communicate and interact with one another. That’s two birds with one stone: it’s a nod to changing times, but it’s also just distant enough to keep it feeling like a different world.

Would you want the visuals to be like Tron 1, Tron Legacy, a mix of the two, or something entirely unique?

Tron Legacy, but I hope they go back to the greyscale skin. Blame that hope entirely on Uprising combining Legacy and 1982 aesthetics perfectly. I want it recreated!

What kinds of new light vehicles or weapons could they introduce?

I’d love to see a car, like the one they have in that one episode of Uprising. Some sort of skateboard-type vehicle might be cool, especially if it can go in the air. Other than that, I’m happy if they just stick with some cool light cycles. You can’t go wrong with them.

As for weapons, I’d love for them to – again – take a clue from Uprising and grab some weapons from there, like the lightstaffs or Dyson’s disk-on-a-string or Tesler’s glowing fists of death. I also wouldn’t say no to cool glowing claws! They could give them to Athena!

And finally, should Bit make a return?

110% definitely. Yes. It should even be revealed that Bit rescued Tron from the Sea of Simulation. They should release Bit plushies. I want animated shorts that are just focused on Bit. I need him to get the BB8 Grogu treatment asap.
