This is a very nice little documentary, especially if you’re a ska-rocksteady-reggae nerd like me.
There are interviews with lots of old reggae gods, several of whom are no longer with us five years later (Toots, Lee Perry, Bunny Lee).
Dandy Livingstone, aged 74, features throughout because he's so good to listen to. He has a beautiful speaking voice, is very composed and happy to share memories. At one point, he sits down at his keyboard and sings a bit of 'A Message to You, Rudy', and it's just wonderful.
There are dramatizations of Jamaicans in London in the 60s and 70s that are low key and not jarring or cringey like you might expect.
'If that shuffle not in the music, it's not reggae' - Bunny Lee

Various Artists “The Trojan Story” 1971/Revised & reissued 2021
Having a much needed break from taking care of everything tonight I figured tonight would be nice to tackle this triple album. The original issue of this album was the first attempt to collect Jamaican music and present it as something legitimate and not a disposable fad. The track listing on the 2021 is superb as is the sound of the records. The packaging is amazing. It’s basically a book with records. Lost in the music and lost in the liner notes. Just the way I like it.

It’s hard to choose which tracks to share from this as they are all great! The tracklist flows chronologically. Starting with pre-ska (which is similar to American R&B of the time), to Ska, Rocksteady, and finally very early Reggae. Trojan is notorious for repeating tracks on many compilations so there’s some overlap with other compilations but there’s enough fresh stuff here to make it worthwhile.

AllMusic Staff Pick: Dave & Ansel Collins Double Barrel: The Best of Dave and Ansel Collins
In 1971, reggae was a largely unknown commodity in America when Dave and Ansell Collins scored a surprise Top 40 hit with "Double Barrel," a quirky but unshakable groove (with Sly Dunbar on drums) accompanied by Dave Barker's deep-echo free association toasting. If "Double Barrel" is the best thing here, the rest is still packed with great, fluid skanking and unassailable boasting; when Dave proclaims "I am the magnificent!," who would dare question him?
